One more this evening and the last post for November, the fuckin' month of the year, gray, dark, wet and cold. This is the second album by Dog Detachment from Johannesburg which appeared on their own label Rampant Records and its a wonderful new wave poppy goodie. Somehow I'm listen to a lot such calm sound at the moment and I know why. What can I say? Not much. As well it's late and I need my bed, was a hard working day and I'm tired. If you need this kind of music now, don't hesitate. Oh, and you must check their 7Inch Machines from 1982, the punky one.

GLAXO BABIES - Put Me On The Guest List 1980
Here's an absolute great album by the Glaxo Babies, the greatest UK post-punk band you've never heard. Formed in Bristol in late 1977 and named after the British pharmaceutical giant who allegedly inoculated thousands with a toxic vaccine, the original lineup included Rob Chapman (vocals), Dan Catsis (guitar), Tom Nichols (bass), and Geoff Alsopp (drums). The band's pioneering mix of metallic guitar, dubbed-out rhythms and shamanistic chants found its way into the bloodlines of generations on both sides of the pond. Naturally, Glaxo members later joined The Pop Group and Maximum Joy. Released on Heartbeat Records in 1980, Put Me On The Guest List is their awesome debut with propulsive recordings. "This Is Your Life" is a veritable classic, with Chapman's angst-ridden lyrics soaring low as the band rides tense, sinuous grooves. The skittish "Police State" stands toe-to-toe with the art-punk flag-bearers in the North (Gang of Four, Mekons) and in London (Wire, The Homosexuals). "Stay Awake" is a vitriolic screed as powerful as anything from the newly formed Public Image Limited. By the time England's post-punk scene was in full bloom, dominating the pop charts in the UK and college radio in the US, Glaxo Babies had unfortunately dissolved.

MINISEX - Bikini Atoll 1982
Early morning and it goes a bit poppy with the second record by Minisex, an Austrian band from Vienna, founded 1980, of the "Neue Deutsche Welle" (?), which celebrated great successes in the Eighties. With their music they wanted to fight against the then popular songwriters' scene. At the beginning they were still singing in English, but then they switched to German. They released four albums and broke up 1990. In mid-2009, the group reunited for a charity concert and since then they play live, mostly in Austria. In March 2014 the fifth album appeared and the band keeps goin'. I bought this platte for five bucks and well, nine pretty audible relaxed danceleg swing songs. Simply said: 8 points out of 10. Check these both compilations for more Austrian music.

SOLDIERS OF FORTUNE - Waiting For World War III 1981
A fine Monday post with this megarare mini LP from the Wanted-List: This awesome record was the debut from the Berlin punk-goth-band Soldiers Of Fortune and was released via Miezi Platten in 1981 and is nowadays very hard to find. Three Englishmen, who have chosen Berlin for their adopted home and they recorded eight wonderful songs that have not much to do with Pogo but they all have still power and charisma. Varied styles of music (I'm exaggerating a little), a small touch of ska, and the band plays with lots of joy and I can hear this album again and again. A Goth-Punk-rock album of the first hour - Feel free to visit Wolf's Blog to download the second release, the Stars 7'' from 1982 which came out by the english label Total Darkness Productions, also a blast! So, once again, enough said, time to listen to that great stuff!

BRATS - 1980 Brats
Let's start this Sunday with a Metal post and I use some info from discogs because I'm in a hurry: "Brats was a Danish band from Copenaghen formed in 1977 as a punk band. After recording the songs "Dreams", "I Do What I Wanna Do" and "Magazine" for Danish Pære Punk compilation, the band split up in 1979, not much later reforming as a heavy metal band (playing a hybrid of punk and metal) with new members. This line-up signed a contract with CBS in 1980 and released the promotional debut single B-Brains and one self-titled full length album. The band later transformed into the pure non-punkish heavy metal band Mercyful Fate." If you want more then get the Lost Tapes compilation too - Not a bad record, eleven nice metal pieces, including two punky ones.

V/A - Geyser 1987
HUHHHH, usually I'm in the stadium when Dortmund comes but today not but it was an exciting game and a 2:1 is the victory for the SGE, now we are third in the league, Juhu! OK, interested none of you so let's enter "Geyser, a compilation on Enigma Records and this record is a reflection of the activities Gramm Records has been engaged in over the five past years. Gramm began its lifespan in the beginning of the most creative and inventive era in history of Iceland rock music." This is a short statement from the backcover. Twelve songs, varied styles: punk, alternative, electro, wave, gothic etc.. not bad and a decent mix. That's it for today, have a nice evening!

V/A - Bloodstains Across Northern Ireland #2 1998
Northern Ireland's underground music is not only populated with good punk bands, foremost known primarily for excellent powerpop stuff and this Bloodstains compilation proves this clearly with seventeen varied melodic goodies. As on Volume 1 a first-rate picking and this record was hard to get, believe me, and kicks the gray November Saturday full in the ass, I hate such days (must be in the sun....immediately). DIE GOLDENEN VAMPIRE - Hinter Der Grünen Tür 1982
Now such a real strange piece of vinyl from a time when musically in Germany all was possible. The Berlin label Zensor has consistently done produce and publish interesting records. Die Goldenen Vampire are a band that has stuck in the middle and pulled out their own thing. Remember doing the whole concept almost a little of the very early stuff from Der Fluch, but less punk, bands like Geisterfahrer and the Cramps may have left their influences. This also is a decent pinch of common rock and roll feel, so that a comparison with the later active Vampire State Building is not very far. Horror texts, NDW-Wave-Gothic-early music and a creepy cover art make me spontaneously much fun and I'm wondering if the band has released even more, and what happened to the musicians yet. Who likes the sound of Der Fluch of Geisterfahrer should take the drive and try this rare Mini-LP. The record is nowadays quite expensive, because you might not often find a copy in your hands. SUBTERRANEAN KIDS - Los Ojos De La Víctima 1987
All right, it's getting a bit faster with the Subterranean Kids, a Spanish hardcore punk band from Barcelona which were founded in 1985. They remained active until 1997, havin' published four albums and this is their debut on Patizambo Records, thirteen awesome shit numbers in twenty minutes, oh hell Yeah, this is European hardcore and they must not hide behind the American bands which are nevertheless unique in this genre. Inspired by the People To The Pit compilation which I post a few days ago, I search my hard-drive and can now post this genius hardcore classic for your deaf ears with a decent portion of white wine - Cool Shit!

V/A - Sacred Cattle EP 1993
One more nice surprise that arrived in the last days via email is this record from Existential Vacuum with previously unreleased Texas punk 1977-1982 in an edition of 600 copies. It took a bit to pull it (I'm very busy at the moment) but here it is. There stand lo-fi on the front but I understand something different, for example the Swiss band Abgas fits this description but all five goodies on this 7Inch are in my opinion excellent kbd stuff, all good recordings (the first track is a real smasher) and The Ejectors as well. A fuckin' great record! Get more early Texas Punk and enjoy!

V/A - Party Pooping Punk Provocations! 1985
A very nice evening comes to an end and as a coronation now this compilation from Xcentric Noise Records with eighteen rare UK punkrock stars. An amazingly good mix of different styles, almost every info in the insert and the only thing that bothered me is the Gelaber between the songs so I have simply deleted this shit because the plate is so more attractive and believe me, you will miss nothing because it's simply superfluous. To be honest, such shit really needs nobody. I did not know this record before (and I love compilations) and find it really felicitous. It stands Volume 1 on the front cover but a second part, to my knowledge, is not published.

DROWNING ROSES - Things Are Not The Same 1988
Very good debut record by this German combo from Minden, founded in 1985 by Zahni (bass), Prüse (guitars) and Marco (drums) from the predecessor bands Human Decay, Phalliuc Symbols and Neurotic Arseholes In 1986 the first demo cassette with eight songs was released and sold about 500 times. Drowning Roses played a lot of concerts including with Government Issue, Instigators and Spermbirds. In the spring of 1987 the band released their own produced Aus Forschung Und Technik EP in an edition of 1000 copies. In 1988, the Hamburg label Weird System drew attention to the band and released the first album "Things Are Not The Same". On 10.09.1988 began for Drowning Roses a one-month European tour with the unknown US punk band NOFX. In the course of the tour preparation the drummer Marco left the band and the first half of the performances was replaced with a drummer from Hamburg. This proved to be not tour-compatible, so the second half of the tour drummer Jeff from Hanau took place. Jeff also played drums on the split single with NOFX. A new drummer finds the band in early 1989 with Bart from Bielefeld. This line-up had their first gig on 10th March 1989 in Frankfurt, together with Nonoyesno. The second record "Youth Of Metropolis" comes in summer via Roseburg Records. In the summer of 1990 the band took a six-week tour by an invitation of Fat Mike together with NOFX. After this successful tour the band split up. On this album are twelve melodic punk numbers with very good lyrics.

ILL REPUTE - Oxnard-Land Of No Toilets EP 1983
Ill Repute is an American hardcore punk band from Oxnard, California, formed in 1981. They are noted for popularizing the "Nardcore" sound in the mid-1980s hardcore punk scene, and recorded for Mystic Records. The band wails, the guitar screams, the vocals are really snotty and impassioned, and the production has an edge that further accentuates all of these advantages. A wicked release that'll motivate you to try stage diving off of your kitchen table. Their record What Happens Next? (What Happened Then? on CD) holds high status in hardcore circles. It is notable for its cover of the 1970s pop music hit "Cherokee Nation". The band broke up in July 2004 after a short tour of Hawaii with the Oahu band 8mm Overdose. Ill Repute briefly reformed again (minus founding guitarist Tony Cortez) to tour Hawaii in 2006 again with 8mm Overdose. The lead guitarist, Tony Cortez (original band member) is considered the "Mayor Of Nardcore." Ill Repute has reformed with original members, (except Carl Valdez replaced by Chuck Shultz) they played one show in Ventura, CA on December 16 which they claimed was to be their last show, but have since reformed. Here two reviews about this record: "This thrash band is from CA if you don't know where Oxnard is. Good songs, nice and heavy sound. Plays on 33 and has eight songs - all total thrash." - Javi Savage (from Big City #4, July/August 1983) / "Jeff was blasting this from his room the other day while I was trying to sleep. Next day I asked him WHAT that was, cause it sounded great, even though I should have been pissed. He felt it was pretty generic, so I went back and listened to it. Generic or not, this fucking wails! Guess he needed the sleep!" - Tim Yohannan (from Maximum Rocknroll #8, September 1983) - Here we go, another release from the never-ending collection of Mystic hardcore.

NOTDURFT - s/t LP 1982
Juhu, endlich Wochenende und ich bin kurz angebunden da ich gleich nach Heidelberg düse. Doch zuerst ein Bier und geile Mucke, zur Zeit läuft gerade das zweite Messer album ... Der Hammer!!! - Let's go: Notdurft is a punkrock legend from Bielefeld/Germany. They recorded this classic album in 1982 and was released on the legendary Berliner AGR label. The songs goes a little bit soft & poppy (hard speedy numders also there, don't worry) and is nowadays a very fine record. So here is enough rough energy that made them the most legendary punkrockers in this town. Also essential the three goodies from the brilliant Soundtracks Zum Untergang 2 compilation.

BRUTAL - Tappavat Pisarat EP 1989
As the band's name can be guessed, energetic, wild, brutal music for your ears. I know from Finland either sing along punk rock in the best Ramones-style or classic hardcore like Terveet Kädet. Brutal belongs to the second category. Six Hardcore pissed off nuggets, all just under six minutes and then the spook is are already over: Terrific! - Unfortunately I have not further info about the band but this EP on Kahlenukke Records is damn fuckin' cool. The drum sound reminds me a litte bit of Septic Death. You'll like HC then this is a must have!!
N.L. CORRUPTION - Greatest Shit Vol.1 EP 1982
Now a sought piece of vinyl from the Wanted-List and this rare record is the only release by this combo from Krimpen, I guess a self-released one on NL Corrupte Kankerzooi Records. Five songs which are really not the absolute burners and who paid a lot of money for this, no doubt a rar platte, has a brain damage. Well, the first is sung in dutch, comes sluggish stamping out, the 2nd is a nice mid-tempo number, really fine, #3 has lyrics I like, about the fuckin' consume and is also a good song, followed by the shortest one and the last one is my favourite, brilliant guitar intro, monotonous rhythm and it's an instrumental (btw, I love such long beginnings without words), a real KBD smasher. My Resume: a decent record which is not bad but I know better stuff!

VACUM - Rädd För Tystnaden 1980
I'm today in a fine mood so I must post this really AWESOME!!!! Killer album by a band from Sundsvall. After two great '77 style EP's they recorded their first record which was released on Massproduktionen. This album contains sixteen songs, a few tracks are a little bit wave influenced but the most are brilliant KBD tunes and this is what makes this band/album so fuckin' special. They create a terrific deal with these small burr and I can only recommend this album. A little short bio (stolen from their MySpace page): "The first rehearsal with Cathrine Fandén was on the 14th of January 1979 and it worked at once. Then they convinced Stephans neighbour Lars Holma to join on bass and on the 23rd of March they had their first concert under the name of Smudge. On the next gig all the covers were gone and the band changed name to Vacum. On the 12th of August the band went to Gävle and during a few hours recorded and mixed six songs for their own EP and also the track Svartvitt for The Sundsvall Punk EP. Soon after that Cathrine moved to London to be au pair but Stephan and Mats did not give up and instead convinced another childhood friend Anders Olsson to join in on bass and also found drummer Sank Sankqvist who just got kicked out of Pizzoar. The first album was recorded in spring 1980 and during the recording they discovered that Cathrine also could play the piano, and had real talent for it, so soon after the release of the first album a synth was bought and Vacum had found its form. Most of the material was based on ideas of Cathrine that all the others contributed too. The first album opened a lot of doors and the band started touring a lot and the second album was recorded in MNWs studio in Vaxholm." Vacum became the most long-lived early punk bands - So enough words - the band calls for your Attention!
GOGOL 1ER ET LA HORDE - Vite Avant La Saisie 12'' 1983
Gogol Premier Et La Horde, scandal combo from France with their debut 12'' and here seven songs of pure energy. A bit info about the band: "Popularized by an artist's performance in the defunct show Les Enfants du Rock, where they appeared wearing cassock and whip, the Vite Avant La Saisie (Hurry Before Entering) was the first great success of the French punk scene. Wild and explosive, this first installment in a long series pogoter made a part of the youth in the 80's, on titles such as "Adolf, My Love", "It's Really Crazy Disco". Despite their advanced age, the album retains all the freshness of its beginnings and has become a "Masterpiece" of French punk. The six tracks on this 12'' (a standard for underground albums of the time) have not aged a day and always prove pleasurable to listen, especially for all the nostalgic who remember fondly have scratched their first guitar chords trying to reproduce the songs on the album." (Benjamin D'Alguerre) - So if you like their punk sound grap their Ce Que Je Veux Faire Quand Je Serai Grand 7'' with two more tunes.

V/A - People Of The Pit 1987
One more treasure of Mr.Sweden's collection and this compilation was released by a small Italian label called Goddam Church Records and its their first output and we move to excellent hardore music, ten bands with rare and exclusive partially goodies to date and from rare 7Inches and this aggressive mix is a perfect picking of songs/bands which I not known, for example Corruptend Morals or Stige, the rest I have somewhere on my hard drive. I must confess hardcore is not always my thing, but I love this kind of music and this record is outstanding - Genau mein Fall, Antesten!

V/A - Underground Hits 1 1982
- First part of Underground Hits on AGR, brilliant song selection, first-class record, if you see this, a must buy! KJØTT - s/t 12'' 1980
Weekend, YEAH! Soon soccer comes but it's a litte time until then so let's visit the north of Europe: Oslo! The bands music style is punk rock and the lyrics where in norwegian and that's Kjøtt, a short lived band which existed from 1979-1981 and the absolute innovation, which meant that time to sing snotty texts in Norwegian, make the five during the short time of their existence to one of the top punk bands from Norway. Singer Helge Gaarde sounds hysterical, the music is rough, melodic and pretty cool. Kjøtt change with screeching tires the tempo and a small infatuation with two-tone shades. I added one from the 'Hue Uten Sanser EP' and three cuts from the 'Op. LP'. So enjoy this classic pearl from the vikings and say hurray!!!!

DER SCHWARZE KANAL - Der Endgültige Abschluß Des Erdgasröhrengeschäfts! 1988
Der Schwarze Kanal was a nice combo from Hamburg, active in the 80's and was named after the East German "Propaganda" television program with Karl-Eduard von Schnitzler. The band released only one album (one of the first releases of L'Age d'Or), which is now almost impossible to get and was dissolved under dubious circumstances. Recorded & mixed March to September 1988. I bought the record in Hamburg when I did my community service that time. The label L'Age d'Or writes: "The band, who always had bad luck and only after resolution of the renown that would have actually earned during their lifetime, but this is it, US-brachialguitar meets European songwriter tradition." Nine pretty cool songs for everybody and a rougher version of 'In The Park' can be found on the rare Vorwärts tape compilation from 1987.

V/A - Wargasm 1982
This record is one more nugget in my opinion. Thirteen songs against war. I think it was the first release about this theme. Except the Dead Kennedys are all bands from the UK. The music here is a special mix of punkrock with keys, orchestra & old school. To me the Poisen Girls track is fuckin' brilliant, the strings intro, the slowly driving up to the proper rhythm is famously, I get goosebumps...huh. Also Captain Sensible's "Hey Jo" is a killer too. After The System on the 1st pressing of this record is a hidden track by The Insane. It wasn't supposed to be included & was deleted on later pressings. A great sampler which is unequaled on Pax Records.

HATE CREW - Silent Rage 1987
Also this band is completely underestimated in my opinion and deserves more attention. Hatecrew were founded in 1985 by four old friends and all played in other bands but they wanted to do their own thing. So after a few gigs and cuts on tape compilations they released one record on Punk Etc. with thirteen decent hardcore smasher. One of the albums that I exchanged for other plates, I'm not really sad about it but after hearin' again I must say maybe a little. Anyway, it's a good production with a cool info sheet within and their last vinyl output is found on the Threshold compi. - Lend them an ear

CHAOS Z - 45 Jahre Ohne Bewährung 1995
When this new album of my favorite band from Stuttgart Chaos Z was announced that time, I was absolutely excited. Ohne Gnade, the hardcore masterpiece from 1982 on Rock-O-Rama (the best record of this label) was an eternity ago and everyone knows that the band is now called Fliehende Stürme. 45 Jahre is complete written & recorded by Andreas Löhr, brother Thomas unfortunately died during this time, and has the fresh energy of which other bands of the 90s can only dream about. Critical statements packed in thirteen hits. As far as I can remember, the CD was released first because otherwise I would have the vinyl, 100%ig. As a small bonus, I added the two goodies from the Punkinvasion II compilation in this file. Now I have to open a beer... Salute!
