WALPURGIS VOLTA - Violence Des Chocs 1989

Second and final record by Walpurgis Volta which came via La Rage and I've been a little out of it since yesterday and can't think straight because I've been a bit put out by damn love. The second album by the Belgians from Brussels continues seamlessly where the first one left off. After the break-up they formed PPz30 and they very quickly achieved in France and Benelux the reputation of a terrific live band thanks to the astonishing performance of front man Bruce and to the musicianship of Daniel. I know I've written this before but I can't write any further because my arm fell off. Their music combines elements from various genres, including Punk and experimental sounds, resulting in a distinctive sound. This album received praise from critics and fans alike and is often addresses social and political issues and is known for its powerful lyrics and dynamic melodies. The production highlights the intensity of the music and offers a deep insight into the band's creative ideas. The band has carved out a solid place for themselves in the Belgian music scene, attracting a wide audience with their music and live performances. Reviewers says the band's artistic development and experimental approach. The band's lyrics are often described as provocative and socially critical. They address relevant topics that make you think and connect to the current social situation. The sound density and careful arrangement of the instruments add to the intensity of the music. Critics emphasize that the band's energy is palpable in the studio recordings and many of the songs are great for live performances. This could make the band an exciting live act. While many old fans of the band appreciate the new direction, there are also voices that say that some of the experimental elements may not appeal to every listener. The band could be taking a certain risk by moving away from their original style. Overall, "Violence Des Chocs" is considered a bold step in Walpurgis Volta's career, pushing musical boundaries and presenting the band in its second stage.

THE RAVES - Damned Money 7'' 1981

The Raves were a Belgian five piece from Roeselare and consisted of Jacques (vocals), Patrick & Gilbert (guitars), Alain (bass), Patrick (drums). This is their only piece with two dynamic and catchy cocktails. Their music combines elements of rock, pop and indie, which has earned them a little fan base. It looks at first glance like a shabby hippie rock record but I have to say, this bloody sucker (200 copies exist) is an outstanding example of the versatility style of the five and the title song addresses the negative effects of money and materialism on life and interpersonal relationships (I'm feeling this very strongly at the moment because a dear friend is closing off her emotional world in favor of the material world and possibly becoming blunted, sad sad story). - With powerful riffs and a catchy chorus, the slab has quickly gained popularity and shows the band's musical ability and creative energy. The Raves have made a strong statement and invite their listeners to think about the influence of damn money on dear friends or society. The flip has a superb half Reggae companion. Featured on Bloodstains Across The World #5.

V/A - Positive Energie #2 2024

Well, Teddy was constantly urging me to finally create a sequel to Positive Energie and I finally gave in and wasted my valuable time on this and set out on the long journey to create a worthy second part.... and today after six years, dear friends, the time has come: Another example by interesting bands, this time looking a little bit beyond Germany to the rest of the continent where I live but remaining in Europe, a healthy mix of new Post-Punk and Punk sounds that deserve a mention because on the one hand they put a lot of effort and money into their records and on the other hand they conjure up dynamic songs from their repertoire that are driving and rousing in my opinion and I am overall very satisfied with this selection. Without the support of some dear friends this compilation wouldn't have been possible and my sincere thanks are lovingly mentioned in the booklet. If you are more interested in the bands' sound, check out the relevant sites on the internet and look for more information and records, it is a lively ride through new discoveries and passionate energy. And Teddy was right again, get off your ass and do something smart, it's never wrong to create something beautiful. With that in mind, enjoy this CD and maybe I'll see your Fucker here.

THE MOTIVES - Mr. President 7'' 1980

One more rare shit is the first release of the Belgian Kleo label and it's sadly the only record of this five piece from Lier (ten kilometers southeast of the provincial capital Antwerp), and the Motives were founded at the end of the Seventies by Dirk (vocals), Stef & Werner (guitars), Filip (bass), Eddy (drums). A total of four songs are waiting to be discovered, two from this single and two from rare Compilations of the early Eighties. Catchy, melodic minimalistic wavie songs that immediately slip into your ear and stay there, crackling and making you hum and shake your head. You stop for a moment and say to yourself: "Holy Shit, Pretty Cool Stuff!" - You smile and are grateful to have gotten out of bed today. A new experience has been made and will remain forever... what else come next?

V/A - Attack Is Now Suicide 1988

A short appearance from me and in my mind is the next record, a fucking hot Compilation of the late Eighties and released in 1988 by the small but equally important German label Double A Records in collaboration with Americans from Phantom Records and is chock full of superb international Hardcore/Punk material with some exclusive highlights. US.Distress opens the musical ecstasy with an fucking energetic track and so it happens one after the other, short and intense songs (especially the Vatican Commandos & Dusk is a brilliant example with an unusual title and a rough sound and Dresden 45 contributes the longest track, which bears the band's name and creates a dark atmosphere). This beauty offers a diverse mix of aggressive and experimental sounds. Although not all tracks are equally strong, Attack Is Now Suicide is an interesting contemporary document of the Hardcore & Punk scene around the world of the late 1980s. The album also contains a folded insert with band photos and song lyrics which is not included within.

1.Who Possesses You? - U.S. DISTRESS
2.British Troops In Cyprus - SIC BOY FEDERATION
3.Housewives On Valium - VATICAN COMMANDOS & DUSK
4.Fjernsyn - O.H.M.
5.Bimbirimbirimbam - S.H. DRAUMUR
6.Werewolf's Life - FEAR ITSELF
7.Intolerance 2:24 - I DENY
8.When You've Got The Choice - DAWN OF LIBERTY
9.Dresden 45 - DRESDEN 45
10.Korruption - EXTREM
11.Don't Waste Your Time - COLLAPS
12.Paralized - RANCID DECAY
13.Nor & Far - RAPED TEENAGERS
14.Russia Nuked Themselves - STIKKY

THOR - It's A New Way 7'' 1982

Huhhh, a lot of re-upps have been done once again and since I'm not with my girlfriend today and the housework is behind me, I finally have time for new music and the following record is a little discovery and a nice one. Thor was a four piece from Hamme which were formed spring 1977 by Carlo (vocals/bass), Marc & Roland (guitars), Luc (drums) and this is their only record on Assekrem with two brilliant goodies. Not a real Punk band, but what the four recorded is extremely catchy, very nicely played and has very good lyrics. The two songs hit me straight away and I listen to them over and over again. And if that's the case, I'm totally thrilled. Unfortunately this is all, no compilation contributions or anything else to be found anywhere else and the single is relatively not cheapWell, they apparently wouldn't have expected it, but that's just the way it is. An interesting slab, take it or leave it!

V/A - Nos Années Punk 1977-1980 [2002]

Last X-Mas post and it's an interesting Compilation which was released in 2002, and this Sucker compiles both sides of previous singles from renowned French combos at the heyday of fresh, rough and awesome music. Most of them are probably familiar to you because the original 7Inches are in the blog and many are also represented on other comps. You see, the sell-out continue again and again and again...... I mean, it's okay but always the same songs is a bit boring, but what do I know? This part comes with detailed informations, but unfortunately only in French. Well, apparently only intended for the local Punkrocker. Whatever, the music speaks the language that everyone understands and overall it's a good one.

BASTA! - Abortus Vrij, De Vrouw Beslist! 7'' 1977

Rib inflammation and a sore throat, I'm thrilled, all this shit that's extremely annoying and pisses me off. Well, there's time to post if I can crawl out of bed, and it's time again for a little 7 fucking Inch, the only piece by this Belgian combo called Basta! on Agitat and this little dittie was one of the first Belgian Punk releases of any sort. The band consisted of Eric (vocals), Marc (guitars), Luc (bass), Johan (drums) and Peter (sax) and the song refers to the 'national demonstration against the abortion ban' of March 4, 1977 in Ghent, which the Young Socialists (JS) called for with the same slogan. The song posthumously gained international recognition in 2017 when it was included in a list of influential anti-fascist Punk songs by the American music site Pitchfork. The music website mainly praised the saxophone line which is said to be reminiscent of Lora Logic's dissonant contributions to X-Ray Spex and Essential Logic. The flip is a reggae tune which is in my opinion a little bit too long. A short background: "The Radio 1 program Wonderland called a stunned Eric, singer of Basta, last night. "It's unbelievable what is happening now, because there are few people who remember that song from fourty years ago," he says: "Although the fight over abortion is a fight that has not yet been fought in many countries, which makes the song still relevant." The way the song was created appeals to the imagination. "We created abortion free, the woman decides" in response to a similar demonstration under the same name. That demonstration was to take place in Ghent. As occasionalPpunks, we created a soundtrack for it," says Eric. "That all happened in one day: we made a song from scratch in a community center. The lyrics were written there on the spot, the music is pure improvisation. That evening we were already in the studio for the recording. My voice was completely destroyed by then (laughs). Until that day we had never played music together."

THE CROWS - Don't Play Around 7'' 1980

There's not much to write about the Crows from Belgium and this is the only 7Inch with two nice PowerPop goodies, a faster track on the A-Side and a reggae touch on the flip. The Crows consisted of Mike (vocals), Skar (guitars), Caine (bass), Toche (drums) and I think the band broke up after the release and possibly continued playing in other bands. Rarely represented on Compilations, one of those the Belgique Putain Frigide from 1996. A nice record with two catchy songs that will definitely relax you.

SCOUNDRELS - Join Hands 1988

A largely unknown band are the Scoundrels, a Dutch/Belgian combo, who started playing 1979 and were around until 1990 and made three albums and countless Compilation appearances. Join Hands is their second output which came via Swaddle Records and line-up were Patrick (vocals/guitars), Frank (bass/vocals), Butsenzeller (drums). I can't say exactly why that is, my first contact came through the Not Great For Great Men Compi whose song I like a lot, but I took it as a side note and at that time I wasn't focused on buying records, because I was constantly broke. Well, somehow I came across this record and discovered twelve solid varied mid-tempo Eighties songs with excellent lyrics (very personal) at its best. I strongly recommend you to listen to their first demo Ufreettoemoef from 1985, where you can also find more infos about the band. And also important: "Following a thirty-one year (!) hiatus, the Scoundrels return to the front with a huge bang… and with their brand new third LP, Oh No! Not Again!!" A Must Listen!

FUNERAL DRESS - Back On The Streets EP 2013

Belgium greats Funeral Dress have scorched the scene for over thirty years (formed in 1985) and starting with their debut LP Free Beer For The Punx in 1990 showed great musical abilities combining melodic rhythems with hardcore energy. They have toured with just about every famous punk band you can think of- which built a strong fan base through out Europe. I'm In Love With Oi! (their second album) is one of their best (admittedly, I've only know this record) in my opinion, with amazingly catchy streetpunk numbers. Six more albums, numerous singles and live gigs followed and shows, the band still has a passion for Punkrock and this four track EP was released as limited edition, 500 copies: 100 x red, 400 x black vinyl, via Contra Records and to my knowledge their last sign of life on vinylI think, adequate & fresh opener for a new week and hereby starts the Monday vertically. Prost!

- Great Thx to Fredrik -

THE PINCHERS - Tonight 7'' 1981

The Pinchers were a short-lived combo from Westerlo, a small village near Antwerp, and this their sole single which was released 1981 on Color Records with two hot tracks and is one of the most sought Belgian Punk singles. Comped on Bloodstains Across Belgium #2 as well as other KBD style comps, original copies go for a hefty price tag and in 2018 Belgian Waffles brought a reissue in a limited edition of 500 copies out. Lacking any kind of distribution most records were sold at local shows and very few exist in the wild. Nothing of further information about the band which means that probably only a few know them at all.

KOMPLIKATIONS - The 12''Inches 2012 - 2017

Now I introduce you to a band that totally thrills me and deserves your absolute attention, because..... simply brilliant. "We play without any guitars and that is it! We call ourselves Punk elektrorockers playing rough minimal sound! Turn your emotions into music! Into creative violence!" So Komplikations, a three piece from Liege about themselves, formed 2011 by Alen (vocals), Synth Lio (synth) and Karsten (drums) and they were influenced by Seventies US west coast bands like Screamers and UnitsThey have already released five 12Inches via Rockstar Records, of which I have compressed the first four in this file. Hatred meets sheer desperation, bundled in a SynthPunk thunderstorm that is rarely offered in such quality. Driven by conviction, who define music as an outlet for the experiences of their own lives. They manage to write mercilessly groovy songs that make your insides pulsate and the challenges of everyday life become small. A lot of strength and energy fills your veins, and you come immediately into a mood that drives you forward like on cocaine. Twenty-One dynamic hymns which are just as great as the last appearance of the SGE on last Monday. Superb, cool, und ein Muss!

V/A - Belgique Putain Frigide 1996

Seventh homemade compilation in this theater from the CD-R bootleg label Get Baque Records. And in this episode they take a trip to Belgium and present us twenty five rare Punk/New Wave/PowerPop highlights from 1977-1982. Well, seventy-five percent of the protagonists are already known and represented on numerous compilations, the remaining twenty-five are worthwhile and interesting. Here we go...

V/A - Bollox To The Gonads - Here's The Testicles 1984

Very cool compilation on Pax Records with twelve combos, mostly from Europe, and the selection is quite okay. I mean, thirty songs on a record is not common for the time and that makes this record all more interesting. A review: "The Pax label is doing some valuable work with the best of intentions. They’ve gone international on this, the follow-up to their Punk Dead? Nah Mate compilation. This time around, they include four uropean, eight English, and one American band. Most of them are real strong and really tear it up, so don’t miss it." (Ruth Schwartz, MMR, Oct/Nov.1983) - Re-released as a cheap CD-R by Retro Records but the original is obviously better. An insert was to my knowledge not included. Enjoy!

V/A - New Wave 1979

Well, I have a feeling history is repeating itself right now, and war has unequivocally caught up with stupid humanity again. Hard times are coming and the impotence of the politicians leads to death and destruction. Anyone who still thinks that humans are intelligent beings will be disappointed once again and will have to reconsider their attitude, but I don't want to comment further on the current situation, I'm trying to concentrate on the essentials, and that's the music. - This Compilation from K-Tel Records is a nice selection of hits from bands that were slowly gaining popularity in the late 70's/early 80's and released a few catchy tunes that were heard almost everywhere which added to their notoriety. Many cheap compilations came out , because the fat major record wankers sensed easy money with this new kind of music. This is one of them and not bad at all in my opinionDear friends, stay fascinate, have a great weekend and enjoy the sound of this sixteen virtuosos.. wherever you are.

V/A - See You In Valhalla 1997

Older compilation with international renowned bands that came out on Mad Butcher Records in the mid-nineties. Fifteen bands, including some good old acquaintances, who offer a refreshing streetpunk sound, partly unreleased and only on this slab. I think, here is something for every taste, young and old buddies, and with over forty-five minutes it's an attractive mix and worth listening and I can't make out any unnecessary filler. Lyrically, the mood is consistently positive and should you be moping, this is the right record to blow the gray veil off your mind. You can argue about the cover and the album title, I think it's not that successful, but fuck it, a passionate emotion is part of it and doesn't hurt anyone. Good Record & fertig!

COMRADE - What About The Children EP 1995

I was able to experience the next band live sometime in the early nineties, but I really don't know exactly when and where, what is for sure; I bought their demo back then and posted it in my carefree days on wilddevilrules. But to the slab, their only EP is finally ready and I promise you refreshingly hearty streetpunk from a very nice combo. A few facts: Comrade was an anti-fascist/anti-racist Oi! band from Antwerp, with Klaas (vocals), Joost (guitar), Bib (bass), Joris (drums) & Marc (harmonica). They were around from the late 80s to half-way the 90s and did a demo (1990) & a EP on Mad Butcher Records. As far as official, now a few words from Klaas himself, which I like to quote and found on Brob Tilt's Tapes blog as decent source, there you can also find a famous live recording from 1988:

"The band originated in 1986 during a Conflict concert in Antwerp. We could do better than what we saw on stage, we thought. We were skins who wanted to play Oi!. That gave a bad after-taste in the Antwerp punk-scene. We were going to show that those kind of prejudices were bullshit. The politically correct thinking was damping freedom, also back then. People wanted to put us in a corner; for the Antwerp punk-scene skinheads were nazis and racists. ‘Comrade’ wanted to show that skinheads had nothing to do with fascism. We were never a political band but only because of our militant anti-racism (words & action), we were easily labeled as leftist. Our name did(n’t) help to that matter, for sure, haha. We played until 1992 all over Europe. Because of our self-willed choices we didn’t really fit in a certain current, group or movement. We’ve always chosen our own path. We never forgot our roots: Skinhead & Oi!. Nostalgia isn’t our thing but we will show the newer generation what us oldies still have to say and do what they think. In 2021 we’ll be on stage a couple of times, playing festivals in Germany. Our first mini-LP will also be released, together with a compilation of demos and live recordings." (Klaas)

Now you are reasonably informed and let's see if I can still find the demo somewhere in the wide spheres of my digital music world, because there are six songs on it. Enjoy!

X-PULSION - You Are Nothing But Schmucks 2017

Holy Stratocoster, it's time for musical delicacies in this theater. Transported from the shallows of dirty stinky cellars, full with empty beer cans, and to my astonishment: all of this pretty rough and pretty amateurish, but enjoyable. Stuff by X-Pulsion from Brussels, the direct successor of the defunct Belgian combo Chainsaw and formed circa 1977. The band consisted of Peter (vocals), Jerry (guitar), Michel (bass), Klaus (drums) and their only release was a split 7Inch with Streets, released 1978 via Romantik Records. They played a few local gigs in their short lifespan and it's amazing that after so many years some lost recordings are still showing up. Persistently pursuing an idea pays off. This loud goodie was made by Belgian Waffles Records, pressed in an edition of 50 copies and all songs are '78 demos & rehearsals from different cassette tapes (except B6 from Follies TV Broadcast February 1978) and comes with a decent twenty page booklet. Fuckin' Great Record!

LOST LEGION - s/t 7'' 1982

A detour to our neighbors in idyllic Belgium and we meet there the following band and they made this ultra rare 7Inch, unfortunately I must say, because both songs are hotter than hell catchy mid-tempo goodies and belong really to the top floor, and probably because of that were these Brussels Punks often opener for the infamous P.I.G.Z. -  Otherwise there is not much info about the three, only the band consisted of Manu (vocals/guitars), Tot (bass), Serge (drums) and compilation tracks barely available. You see, it's not easy to tell more stories about Lost Legion, maybe the members merged into other bands or withdrew to family life, who knows. Fact is, their record is superb and is definitely a re-release worth.
