RAW POWER - After Your Brain 1986

The following band is one of my favorites and is always a pleasure to listen to: Raw Power. Formed 1981 in Poviglio by brothers Mauro (vocals) & Giuseppe (guitar). Through the years the band has lived through several line-up changes and the two brothers were the only stable members until Giuseppe’s death in 2002. After Your Brain is, I think, the third album which came again via the California based label Toxic Shock into the record stores and is a bit more "discreetly" than its predecessor. Tim Yohannan reviewed perfectly in MRR #38 • July 1986: "Pretty straightforward thrash as well as some Punk tunes. Lacks the overall insanity of some of their best material, but there’s plenty of hot stuff here and a lot more variety than usual." These words correspond to my impressions and with "We Shall Overcome" they recorded one of my favorite songs. Thirteen decent smashers, not so furious but still kicking ass. Essential and deserves the Italian Hardcore seal!

KINA - Se Ho Vinto Se Ho Perso 1989

Third album by Kina from Aosta on Blu Bus and we listen to fifteen pretty towards melodic songs which haven't much in common with the Italian Hardcore league, check out their first album Irreale Realtà in comparison, but it's still Kina, they don't be afraid of a musical change and have combined very varied songs here, fast as well as slower pieces are included, plus short intermediate passages that I almost always find superfluous, but the three implemented this creatively for my taste. Let me quote a review from the re-release: "Refreshingly, I don’t know a damn thing about this Italian Hardcore band that started in the mid-’80s. This was their third LP, and it’s an interesting example of the time period. Kina’s sound sources its inspiration from Washington DC’s world-famous Post-Hardcore scene. The band can still rock pretty hard, but they tend towards melodic guitar lines that complement the earnest vocals and is not afraid of acoustic guitar and other “un-punk” elements. A track like “Cosa Farete” is closer to morose college rock than, say, Indigesti, but you can imagine them playing a show together at some thatched-roof squat on an abandoned farm outside of Turin. Interestingly, Kina’s mix of these influences prefigures a band that would become massive on an underground level less than a decade later: AVAIL. There’s a similar anthemic quality that is pretty damn hard to pull off convincingly, but Kina manages." (Erick Bradshaw, MRR #461 • October 2021) An interesting piece of music in every respect, which requires just under thirty-five minutes of your time.

V/A - Oi! Rare & Exotica 1997

Twenty-two Oi! presents from 1981-1996, wrapped and shipped from all over the world and in time for fucking Christmas we're travel to every corner of this beautiful planet to show our gratitude. Brought to us by Teenage Rebel Records, this unofficial release certainly doesn't make the bells ring sweet. On this decent compilation you will find some gems, that you may have passed in all those wasted years but now, within reach of you again and this selection describes a fantastic period in the musical Oi! history. With that, the curtain closes for today, the lights go out and now I'm going to cuddle with the Christ Child.

V/A - 4 Per Ⓐ//ⒶⒶ Per Tutti EP 1984

Hot compilation in red vinyl from Totò Alle Prese Coi Dischi with four Italian combos. Raw Power from Poviglio with two rough wild cuts from their demo tape (1983). Then Rivolta Dell'Odio from Ancona with a track from their La Danza Del Sangue E Del Sole cassette (1983) which, with a length of three minutes, doesn't come across as brutal, and ensures peace and quiet. The other side will be opened by Rappresaglia from Milan with two mid-tempo goodies and last but not least Pedago Party from Piacenza with two candys from their L'Arte Della Rivoluzioneare tape (1983) and they're short, snotty and with nice female vocals. - All four symbolizing that season of fury that made Italian bands famous worldwide. This excessive piece of vinyl comes with a lovingly stapled insert with lyrics and infos about the bands. A review: "Like most compilations, a little spotty. Raw Power starts off and blows away all the competition. Their sound here is sooooo much better than their first LP, as they showcase their breakneck stop-and-start sound with vocals literally spit out through your speakers. Rappresaglia & Pedago Party both go for a more popular thrash sound. The other band, Rivolta Dell'Odio, has a slower art-damaged sound." (Dogtowne, MRR #22 • February 1985) - I think it's a very good EP, varied and by no means superfluous and a decent start into the weekend.

1.Fuck Authority - RAW POWER
2.Burning The Factory - RAW POWER
3.La Danza Del Sangue - RIVOLTA DELL 'ODIO
4.U.S.A. - RAPPRESAGLIA
5.Rappresaglia - RAPPRESAGLIA
6.Lo Spazio Che Ci Resta - PEDAGO PARTY
7.Morire A Beirut - PEDAGO PARTY

DECLINO - Terra Bruciata 2LP 2017

I thought, I had already posted something from this great band, but even after checking it three times, I didn't find anything except a few compilationsWell, it's time to change that today, and the best way I can do that with a fucking great release by F.O.A.D. Records. We're talking about Declino, a four piece based in Turin, active between 1982 and 1985, and they were one of the most influential Hardcore/Punk bands in Italy. Members were Sandro (vocals), "Mungo V.R." Bertotti (guitars), Max Occhiena (guitars on A1 to A9), Silvio (bass), Orlando (drums on A1 to A6), Roberto (drums). They were featured in early MRR reports on the Italian Punk/HC scene and were also featured on the essential P.E.A.C.E. double LP compilation on Radical Records! Their style was a very energetic clash of speed, rage & creative songwriting. They were definitely the first in their area to develop a mature style that leaned more towards the intensity of full-on Hardcore than the rawness of Punk.

So this essentiell Anthology (limited to 550 copies on black, 150 copies on ultra clear vinyl) includes all their existing studio recordings, consisting of: the debut EP (1983), Mucchio Selvaggio split tape/LP with Negazione (1984), three unreleased tracks (1984), Eresia 12″ (1985) and a complete soundboard live recording (Denmark 1985) never released before in its entirety. I know all you maniacs of angry and raw energy will love this double album, and all you others as well.

NEGAZIONE - Little Dreamer 1988

Third album by Negazione from Turin which were formed in 1983 from the ashes of 5°Braccio and Antistato, and disbanded in 1992. Released via WeBite Records and the four, Zazzo (vocals), Roberto (guitars), Marco (bass), Fabrizio (drums), slowed down a bit and only three songs in Italian were recorded for this slab, and that's a pity in my opinion, because they lose a good dose of power & craziness, I should rip the first Lo Spirito Continua, this album is pure energy, better known as Hardcore, and literally jumps out at you and makes your pump beat fasterLittle Dreamer is by no means bad, but it doesn't come close to the previous releases. I guess, that was part of a reason I sold the record a long time ago. Anyway, at the end of the month fits this sound and I will rip the other album soon. Salut!

GIUDA - Racey Roller 2010

A few weeks ago I introduced you to an Italian band called Taxi and these gentlemen have changed into Giuda and continue where Taxi left off and my request was heard and today you can enjoy the first Giuda album. Giuda is a five-piece band from Rome that play an air-punching mix of anthemic ‘70s rock hooks delivered with the brutal force of early UK Punk, all interpreted in a contemporary and original way with relevance for today’s discerning listener. Racey Roller is a firework of ten mid-tempo goodies that I like to listen on vacation in the car. Full of positive vibes, great Rock'N'Punk stuff and I don't know why I read Glamrock everywhere? This is a real infectious and energizing slab, no ifs & buts. But maybe I don't know enough about this genre, anyway. This is a solid great debut from an interesting combo from Rome.

C.C.M. - Live In SO 36 1988

It's getting loud and ecstatic on wdthtc, because an awesome live slab from Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers, or simply C.C.M. (the band name was a tribute to the Dead Boys guitarist), is waiting for you. Founded in Pisa and active from 1979 to 1987, the four were one of the first Italian Hardcore combos and part of the Tuscan Grand Duchy scene. 400 Fascists (the original is hard to find these days) was their first EP and came out 1981 via Cessofonya Records with four fantastic killers, inspired by a military parade of 400 paratroopers held in Pisa in those years. The record is now one of the very first productions of Italian hardcore punk, a genre that in those years was developing in the rest of the world. In 1983 they released a self-produced split cassette Sfregio Permanente/Permanent Scare which saw them in collaboration with I Refuse It! (later re-issued on vinyl by Children Of The Revolution Records in 1985) and in the same year a second tape called (We Are The) Juvenile DelinquencyThey participated in the Last White Christmas festival which took place in Pisa on 4. December 1983, organized by the Grand Duchy Hardcore (GDHC) in the deconsecrated church of San Zeno. In 1984 they were then invited by the American R Radical Records of Dave Dictor of MDC, to be part on the International P.E.A.C.E. Benefit Compilation which was released in collaboration with the San Francisco fanzine MaximumRockNRoll. 1985 came their Furious Party, the second EP out and during a tour in the States, they recorded their Into The Void album in Indianapolis, both released on Belfagor Records. In 1987 the group disbanded after the release of this live album which was recorded in SO36, Berlin on 16th May 1987, released on Destiny Records and the last line-up was Syd Migx (vocals), Antonio (guitars), Sandro (bass), Alex (drums)That was a lot of words, and I recommend you listen to the must-have compilation The Furious Era 1979-1987, released 2017 on Area Pirata, which features all the Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers material.

V/A - Digging In Water 1987

The cover alone is worth buying this cute Compilation on Manic Ears Records & Children Of The Revolution Records and gives a brilliant impression of the slab's musical quality. Refreshing mixture of Hardcore/Punk with relevant bands that didn't have to be asked twice to be part of Digging In Water. And it's not uncontrolled thrashing, rather amazingly solid heavy melodic stuff by seventeen bands that can do that. "This album does a perfect job of summing up a scene, and is a collection of the hottest UK Hardcore bands..." Enough for today, enjoy the weekend and soon the ball will be rolling again.

V/A - It's All Been Said Before... EP 1993

...Yes, it's a bootleg Punk!' and not a bad one at all. For an unofficial release, the artwork (a 9-Page booklet sleeve) is amazingly elaborate and available at a low price, I think I paid three euros for this slab. All songs are already been released, details here, and the song/band selection is also impressive and shines with nine fast loud goodiesSome familiar to me, some new. Reason enough to enjoy this record at a relaxed moment. It's going to be hot today, that means 🌞🌊

TAXI - Eat Me 7'' 1999

All right folks, yet another four piece combo from Rome called Taxi and they consisted of Ntendarere (vocals), Lorenzo (guitar), Antonio (bass), Francesco (drums) and I advise you to take off your seat belts because the small debut 7Inch by them will take your shoes off, two brilliant ass-kickin' Punk'N'Roll numbers await you and flash you into the fifth dimension. In their eight year activity they made four singles and two albums and it could certainly have been more but Francesco's tragic death in 2007 marked the abrupt end of the four and that's really a sad fucking ending. But Tenda, Lorenzo, Danilo and Michele regrouped as Giuda (Italian for Judas) and their debut album Racey Roller from 2010 became quickly an underground sensation and was highly praised by diverse magazines and remains a cult classic and an inspiration to the hordes of bovver rockers following in Giuda’s wake (I haven't heard the slab yet, but I'll do this asap). Check out the boys, cause they deserve it.

V/A - Bollox To The Gonads - Here's The Testicles 1984

Very cool compilation on Pax Records with twelve combos, mostly from Europe, and the selection is quite okay. I mean, thirty songs on a record is not common for the time and that makes this record all more interesting. A review: "The Pax label is doing some valuable work with the best of intentions. They’ve gone international on this, the follow-up to their Punk Dead? Nah Mate compilation. This time around, they include four uropean, eight English, and one American band. Most of them are real strong and really tear it up, so don’t miss it." (Ruth Schwartz, MMR, Oct/Nov.1983) - Re-released as a cheap CD-R by Retro Records but the original is obviously better. An insert was to my knowledge not included. Enjoy!

V/A - P.E.A.C.E. Compilation 2LP 1984

I don't think this excellent release in form of a double record set can be more topical, and as we all have to realize, mankind hasn't gotten any wiser even after almost forty years. There is always some aggressor somewhere who expresses its sick ideology with lies and blind helpers and it is appalling that no diplomacy, no system, and no sensible compromise can prevent a violent confrontationPathetic, disappointing & lifeless all the pursuit of power and heroism. About the record: "This massive international Hardcore/Punk compilation features fifty-five bands/songs and was organized and released by the infamous MDC on the band's own label R Radical Records. The worldwide hardcore scene was at its peak at this point, still underground enough to repel corrupting outside influences like major labels and heavy metal, but already hardened into a rigid aesthetic and political dogma that often encouraged groupthink and musical conformity. P.E.A.C.E. documents the state of "Reagan-era" Hardcore, just before the popularity of extreme music spread through decidedly non-radical camps and into the mainstream. Among the fifty-five bands on board are well-known plus the best tracks by courtesy of obscure groups of the local scenes from Argentina, South Africa to Japan. Most of the bands included retain, either through design or some bizarre quirk of ineptitude, a stamp of individuality on their sound that makes this an entertaining collection.

An extensive booklet insert is packed with political rants, cartoons, and suggestions for further reading, making explicit the double-LP's theme of activism and action against a corrupt authority. Plus, each band is provided with a full page to express their ideas (and plug their wares) with printed lyrics and crudely effective collage art. Reissued on CD in 1997 by New Red Archives with bonus cuts." (Fred Beldin) - A real highlight of an international gathering that shows how it can work.

BAHNHOF - February 82 EP 2015

Superb record by this Italian Oi!/Punk band which was founded in 1979 and broke up in 1984, after the singer had an terrible motorcycle accident which heavily disabled him. Often mentioned in magazines/fanzines, Bahnhof had a tight knit circle of fans that followed the band performing @ places like Virus (the most known Italian squat), Rolling Stone, Odissea 2001 and they played a lot of gigs in those very well known squat and clubs. Their lyrics are all in English and often connected by a common thread. At shows, their best song was Annalisa (February 82), dedicated to a beautiful girl called Annalisa. Her story, like many others of the early Eighties, was connected to heroin, the damned drug that decimated a generation of great kids, and these kids are only guilty of not knowning the devastating effect of this fucking drug. Annalisa committed suicide and they dedicated this song that talks about the entry to the world of heroin to her. Fashion is about plastic people how they stop thinking and let the fashion rule their life, Manager was a song dedicated to their manager and friend Dino. Their most important gigs were the First Italian Oi! Meeting (Monza 13 November 1982) and the second Italian Oi! meeting (Bologna 22 January 1983), where they were the headliner band. The only testimony left by Bahnhof, in addition to a couple of compilation tapes, is this demotape called February 82 on Electric Eye Records from 1982, now re-issued, for the first time on vinyl, by No Plan Records in a limited edition with partially colored vinyl.

WARHEAD - One More Time In The Jail 7'' 1989

Second 7Inch by Warhead from Turin which was self-published and the last lifesign before they resurrected in 1998. They brought out two solid numbers as a temporary farewell to the Italian music scene and left many of their fans with fond memories (but they wasn't really quiet). In 1991 Warhead began gathering previously unreleased material from studio and live performances for their end-of-decade project, two years later they released the Ten Years On The Road tape for the clubs, signalling their return to the circuit with a new rhythm section, and they were now truly in mainstream psychedelic Hard Rock, but that's another story. In any case, not the typical hardcore stuff, rather decent mid-tempo punkrock is their passion and the four manage to improve your mood, especially if you just got out of jail. Discover more anti-lullabies by clicking orange - Weekend.... Salut!!

V/A - Planet Punk #3 2004

Planet Punk is/was another serie of selfmade compilations/revival from Chuck Warner’s Hyped2Death efforts, and before your requests for Volume 1 + 2 come, these are not available. The first appearances of this homework label in this theater have already been made through the Bad Teeth series and H2D is focused on early KBD slabs, sometimes worldwide, sometimes country-specific, and this Fucker is dedicated to rare European stuff. The exact year of publication is given by me, because I believe that it must have been generated at this time, of course I can be wrong, but that doesn't really matter, it is important that they exist and that people like Chuck make such treasures tangible and unforgettable, I am like him and as a regular reader of this blog you already got to know some nuggets from WDM RecordsWell, you can listen to thirty decent cool songs, most of them already on vinyl (click on the top left), but this compilation is just this kind of work that was cobbled with passion, a lot of time, heart & soul and deserves your respect and attention. Enjoy the delicate tones and Volume #4 is coming soon.

V/A - Punk Territory Vol.4 - Italian Hardcore 1981-87 [1995]

Music as therapy is always important and is used far too little nowadays. November is depression month #1 (at least here in Europe and I also hate this month & I can imagine thirty-five degrees at the end of the year in our latitudes at some point) and I think the following recipe will take the shot forward and lie still in bed will not work at all. As psychologist, I prescribe: Punk Territory and Vol.4 takes us to the most beautiful living space I know; the Mediterranean! Part of that is Italy, where a number of effective drugs were developed in the Eighties that are still having an impact & have lost none of their popularity among experts. Ten bands are united on this pill, ten which hardly appeared on vinyl, only later honored with compilations, which show high energy and dynamic in their songs and thirty-three examples should suffice for this. If your demons don't rest, I recommend other volumes from the same serie.

1.Factory Of Cancer - THE WOPS
2.Your War - THE WOPS
3.Power - THE WOPS
4.S.I.A.E. - THE WOPS
5.Hateful Town - THE WOPS
6.Disordine - WRONG BOYS
7.Rabbia Repressa - WRONG BOYS
8.Punx - WRONG BOYS
9.Il Suono E' Distruzione - WRONG BOYS
10.Urla Di Dolore - BLAXFEMA
