WARHEAD - One More Time In The Jail 7'' 1989

Second 7Inch by Warhead from Turin which was self-published and the last lifesign before they resurrected in 1998. They brought out two solid numbers as a temporary farewell to the Italian music scene and left many of their fans with fond memories (but they wasn't really quiet). In 1991 Warhead began gathering previously unreleased material from studio and live performances for their end-of-decade project, two years later they released the Ten Years On The Road tape for the clubs, signalling their return to the circuit with a new rhythm section, and they were now truly in mainstream psychedelic Hard Rock, but that's another story. In any case, not the typical hardcore stuff, rather decent mid-tempo punkrock is their passion and the four manage to improve your mood, especially if you just got out of jail. WARHEAD - X-Mas Bop EP 1987

Welcome to a band that had their creative time in the 80s and it seems they probably still active. A bit Info from their home: "Early 1980’s: nuclear warheads, the cold war, the nuclear age with its power of creation and its power of destruction, the fear of the whole lot going up. A generation of mutants come up through the underground culture, dangerous, contaminated, out of this world or maybe too caught up in it. In the summer of ’82, out of this generation Fabio Scipioni and Fausto Colasanti formed the group Warhead, the first Thrash-Hardcore Punk band in Umbria. So the band from back woods began with a demo-tape, In Rock We Trust. Concerts in a series of converted theatres  and squatted warehouses of central Italy were the experiences behind cutting their first record, the mini-LP The Black Radio, the X-Mas Bop EP with a cover of Irving Berlin's “White Christmas” featuring guitarist/pianist Paul Chain on the flip. The last of the 80’s was the One More Time In The Jail slab". On these three lullabies were Fabio (vocals/guitar), Fausto (guitars), Roberto (bass), Paul (organ), Lucio (drums) involved and they do their job properly. More boring X-Mas sounds don't follow.

V/A - Punk Territory Vol.4 - Italian Hardcore 1981-87 [1995]

Music as therapy is always important and is used far too little nowadays. November is depression month #1 (at least here in Europe and I also hate this month & I can imagine thirty-five degrees at the end of the year in our latitudes at some point) and I think the following recipe will take the shot forward and lie still in bed will not work at all. As psychologist, I prescribe: Punk Territory and Vol.4 takes us to the most beautiful living space I know; the Mediterranean! Part of that is Italy, where a number of effective drugs were developed in the Eighties that are still having an impact & have lost none of their popularity among experts. Ten bands are united on this pill, ten which hardly appeared on vinyl, only later honored with compilations, which show high energy and dynamic in their songs and thirty-three examples should suffice for this. If your demons don't rest, I recommend other volumes from the same serie.

1.Factory Of Cancer - THE WOPS
2.Your War - THE WOPS
3.Power - THE WOPS
4.S.I.A.E. - THE WOPS

CHARLIE HARPER - Warhead 7'' 2017

Let's come to a legend and he's been making music for over fifty years: Charlie Harper. English Punk icon and best known as the lead singer of the U.K.SUBS. His first solo album Stolen Property, which he released in 1981, proves that he can do it different by grabbing a few instruments himself. In addition, he founded a side project, Urban Dogs, which is active since 1983. As you can see, this creative mind doesn't get tired and that's a good thing. 'Warhead' is probably the most famous song of the Subs, covered several times by many bands and always up to date and it was time to sew this classic a new dress and this 7Inch is this: 500 copies (yellow blue splattered 150, yellow 175, blue 175) of this brilliant goodie were published by Punkerama Records and brings us the acoustic version, unplugged if you want, of this anthem. The flip has the 'Rebellion Song' from the 2017 Yellow Leader album in the same "quiet" quality. Very nice record and one more expressive side of this exceptionally likeable contemporary. A Must!

U.K.SUBS - Dance And Travel In The Robot Age 1980

We are slowly approaching spring and heating up once again on the penultimate day of March with the next record. Band: UK Subs Charlie (vocals), Nicky (guitars), Paul (bass), Pete (drums), label: Black & White, recorded live @ Milan Palalido, Italy on 16.02.1980. Seventeen rough classics and the recording was made by the late Tracy Crazy, from the Italian combo S.I.B., who also took the photographs used on the cover. Whilst not recorded with the most sophisticated equipment, but "Dance & Travel" captures the Subs at the height of their powers with a blistering set of what would become the classics that are the mainstay of their live performances to this day. The gig in Milan was part of a seven date European tour that the Subs played with the Ramones. Thus all is said, recommended for Punkrockers aged 12+.

VENOM - @ Hellfest, Clisson 20.06.2015

The Gods of Black Metal and to date the undisputed #1 are Venom from Newcastle which were formed 1978 and with some breaks still active. Fifteen albums (I only have two left) appeared during this period and with their extreme music they enthrall countless fans all over the world. In 2015 they played at the Hellfest which went three days and here is their gig in a fantastic recording quality. So join the Venom's Legions, pick up the double album From Hell To Unknown as well and have a sunny Easter Monday. Now I have to ride with my bike to Heike's brunch in the heart of Offenbach.

U.K.SUBS - Crash Course (Live) 1980

Another long-lived band are the U.K.SUBS from London who can already celebrate their 43th birthday and like the Mönchengladbacher, they don't get tired of spicing our stressful everyday life with great music & a heartwarming example is their first live slab which was recorded @ the Rainbow on 30th May 1980 (the first issue came with the free 12inch For Export Onlyand it's amazing!, a look at the track list confirms that in my opinion and relevant reviews are enough available in the webThis ends a long blogging day and now out into the world.

U.K.SUBS - Gross-Out USA 1984

Already the fourth live album of the UK Subs and this one was recorded @ Mc Greevys in Chicago whilst on tour in America during the spring of 1984, released via Fallout Records in two different sleeves; the more common pink on green colour scheme and a more rare green on pinkLine-up on this evening were: Charlie Harper (vocals), Captain Scarlet (guitars), Tezz Roberts (bass), Pete Davies (drums) and they throw seventeen classics among the American punx in an acceptable sound quality. A Subs slab is always a guarantee for a fantastic atmosphere, a good mood and always worth listening to, and the gents are still touring, and that for over forty years now... you shouldn't miss them.

V/A - Victim Of Safety Pin 2003

A request of a visitor from Poland next and I am happy because I didn't listen to the LP for a long time and so I came in touch again: Polski Punk Underground 1977-82. Released on Supreme Echo and 1100 copies were pressed. This record is absolute punk. The sound quality is not the best, sometimes close to the pain barrier but all these tunes are all originals, rare live and rehearsal recordings which would otherwise have remained lost in the eternal blackness and this would be fatal if you look at the songlists. On the MySpace site from Supreme Echo I have this for you: "The critically acclaimed, first and most accurate documentation on the development of punk, new wave, and hardcore in the former People's Republic of Poland. This document provides not only in depth history's of each band featured, but also a well constructed history of rock and roll in Poland, and it's eventual evolution into punk - and how it all fits into the sociological, cultural, and political world around it. Seriously, I feel that this is one of the most interesting and crucial pieces of punk rock's forgotten history, and I recommend it most highly.” (MRR-Nov.2003) - Seventeen songs, fourteen bands, twenty page booklet with massive essay and biographies (unfortunately not inside). - Top record and it's no wonder this sucker was quickly sold out.

LES VERMINES - Bad Childhood 1983

Now to a combo that already appeared sporadically in wdthtc on some compilations: Les Vermines from Rouen, active around 1980-1989. Line-up: White Spirit (vocals), Torchon (guitar), Ted (bass), Daniel (drums) and this is their amazing debut on Rive Gauche Records. Bad Childhood is peppered with eleven superb candy canes. Info: To history and purists, punk has only lasted for a season. In 1977, the death knell had already sounded. This did not prevent the Vermines from continuing the adventure in the 80s with two albums in their own juice worthy of the best English productions of the good era. Adopting the language of the Queen of England, the group doesn't seem to care about this detail of the story and rushes headlong into a punk à la Sex Pistols and Ramones from which they also cover the title Blitzkrieg Bop and Warhead by the UK Subs on this album. The Rouen scene can be proud of these boys and you can convince yourself by the excellent songwriting and the amazingly good quality of these fourRecorded & mixed in twenty-two hours during summer 1983. They left two albums, a 7Inch and a tape for posterity, plus some compilation appearances. Brilliant debut in every way!
