LA FRACTION - La Vie Rêvée 2006

La Fraction is an amazing French four piece from Paris and since 1992 active and this is their third studio album with ten great catchy and melodic tunes where no nose remains dry, and from the first edition were 2000 copies pressed. The band simply do their thing, don't rush around, don't give a damn about any Zeitgeist and have long since found their very own sound and style mix: melodic, rousing Punkrock, which is made so unique and unmistakable by Magali's outstanding voice. Somewhere between the Distillers and French chanson music, as crazy and wild as that may sound. This band can do anything and has perhaps lasted so long because they don't care about conventions and scene codes any more than they do about classic songwriting. At first glance, La Fraction are not always easy but they develop something new and with each listening they are left with wonderful little nuggets that carry you away and inspire you. Powerful and finally really well and lavishly produced and as they themselves so aptly title: Simply too old to die young. I'm sure you want more so check their stuff from the early days.

V/A - Positive Energie #2 2024

Well, Teddy was constantly urging me to finally create a sequel to Positive Energie and I finally gave in and wasted my valuable time on this and set out on the long journey to create a worthy second part.... and today after six years, dear friends, the time has come: Another example by interesting bands, this time looking a little bit beyond Germany to the rest of the continent where I live but remaining in Europe, a healthy mix of new Post-Punk and Punk sounds that deserve a mention because on the one hand they put a lot of effort and money into their records and on the other hand they conjure up dynamic songs from their repertoire that are driving and rousing in my opinion and I am overall very satisfied with this selection. Without the support of some dear friends this compilation wouldn't have been possible and my sincere thanks are lovingly mentioned in the booklet. If you are more interested in the bands' sound, check out the relevant sites on the internet and look for more information and records, it is a lively ride through new discoveries and passionate energy. And Teddy was right again, get off your ass and do something smart, it's never wrong to create something beautiful. With that in mind, enjoy this CD and maybe I'll see your Fucker here.

V/A - 14 Years Ago [Ex-WildDevilRules Compilation] 2010

This bloody Fucker, as the title suggests, is created when my old blog was still active and that time I posted it under a different name, now fourteen years later I've changed a few songs and think it's become a bit better (the back cover is still the old). There were too many D-bands on it Compilation what I had already forgotten is, there are a lot of cover versions of my favorite D-Punk band from Mönchengladbach on it. True followers of this Blog know which combo I'm talking about, but the name isn't mentioned. Those who guess it will get a washing machine for free, hehe..... Most of the songs were released in the Eighties and pressed on rare various Compis and 7Inches and all are fucking cool! It is a speciality of mine to immortalize the best of them on such useless crap that you then listen to in the car, train, plane or wherever to boost your self-confidence. Well, at least that's my reason for creating such musical delights, no profit, no self-indulgence, only for the passion of Punkrock, the attitude to life, and that's why I'm happy to share it with you. So dear ones, my plane leaves in four hours and I hope, I come back. Cheers!

V/A - 805 21 F 2xEP 1995

First post in August brings us a brilliant Compilation from Spock Productions and 500 copies of these two 45's were pressed and this release was a benefit for "Secours Populaire Français", a non profit organization which has been fighting against povertyall around the world since the end of World War II, and still is. I love these kind of records with international bands because, on the one hand, you can usually only hear them on these kind of Compilations and, on the other hand, I like to feel the vibes of these countries. And that's what happens here with twelve really good, varied songs. And I guess that's also the passion of the small label that has unfortunately only released about a dozen 7Inches, but each one is certainly a real gem. Well, it was fun to digitize them and there will be more material at the weekend, so stay tuned.

1.Stupid Story - D MAISONS
2.You & I - TOSHIYUKI HIRAOKA

V/A - Attack Is Now Suicide 1988

A short appearance from me and in my mind is the next record, a fucking hot Compilation of the late Eighties and released in 1988 by the small but equally important German label Double A Records in collaboration with Americans from Phantom Records and is chock full of superb international Hardcore/Punk material with some exclusive highlights. US.Distress opens the musical ecstasy with an fucking energetic track and so it happens one after the other, short and intense songs (especially the Vatican Commandos & Dusk is a brilliant example with an unusual title and a rough sound and Dresden 45 contributes the longest track, which bears the band's name and creates a dark atmosphere). This beauty offers a diverse mix of aggressive and experimental sounds. Although not all tracks are equally strong, Attack Is Now Suicide is an interesting contemporary document of the Hardcore & Punk scene around the world of the late 1980s. The album also contains a folded insert with band photos and song lyrics which is not included within.

1.Who Possesses You? - U.S. DISTRESS
2.British Troops In Cyprus - SIC BOY FEDERATION

V/A - Rapsodie 1986

Fantastic Compilation which came out via Jungle Hop International and is dedicated to French Punk/Hardcore and full with rare and exclusive blasts by eleven bands. The first pressing came with a yellow cover and this blood was released a year later, comes with a nice lyric/info-sheet just the way I like it. And there's nothing more to say, I'm a bit kaputt from yesterday, too much alcohol and little sleep. Enjoy the record and the sun and keep your good mood.

V/A - Nos Années Punk 1977-1980 [2002]

Last X-Mas post and it's an interesting Compilation which was released in 2002, and this Sucker compiles both sides of previous singles from renowned French combos at the heyday of fresh, rough and awesome music. Most of them are probably familiar to you because the original 7Inches are in the blog and many are also represented on other comps. You see, the sell-out continue again and again and again...... I mean, it's okay but always the same songs is a bit boring, but what do I know? This part comes with detailed informations, but unfortunately only in French. Well, apparently only intended for the local Punkrocker. Whatever, the music speaks the language that everyone understands and overall it's a good one.

V/A - Apocalypse Chaos 1982

Superb French Compilation from Chaos Productions with early and first recordings of bands that later became renowned and popular recordings, a stepping stone, so to speak. Although there are only twelve songs, they are surprisingly good and clearly show the potential of the bands and can be seen as a springboard. Very good mix from Oi! & Punk of the old days and there is nothing more to tell about it, dug up from my Harddrive. You see, it's taking a while until I post again, but life is taking me vehemently and maybe wdthtc will soon be over... I'm undecided... but I feel like I don't want to anymore... ma gugge!

OBNOXIOUS! - Sickness EP 1993

Obnoxious! from Strasbourg were a two piece project, Wattie (vocals/guitars) and Ricky (bass/drums) and active from 1991 to 1995. The first issue of their debut 7Inch (Fight 45 Records) was a hand numbered limited edition of 500 copies in blue wax and features ten angry and brutal Hardcore attacks in thirteen minutes, and since they sing in English, their superb lyrics send a clear message. An album (Puke Till Death) followed in 1994 but unfortunately tensions arose between the two and in 1995 the band broke up. Heading into the weekend with this blast and now I leave the stage for today.

RUSSIAN ROULETTE - J'ai Tout Oublié 7'' 1984

A little darling from nearby France (Mulhouse) is the only 7Inch from Russian Roulette on Ere Force Records and until the band had found their formation, it takes some time. Finally consisted them on these recordings, I think, of Patrice (vocals), Jean-Yves & Christian (guitars), Patrick (bass) Didi (drums). Two brilliant catchy songs that I would definitely take as an option for a French Compilation, rocking and variable and since I like to work with reviews, a little one for you. "The A-side is a steady but slow rockin’ moody tune with full vocal choruses, echoey vocals, and powerful back-up. Definitely catchy and non-wimpy. The flip blasts out a sorta R’n’B-based rocker with cool hiccup-y vocals and singin’ guitar, much in the vein of the early Flamin Groovies." (Tim Yohannan, MRR #25 • May/June 1985) I can only underline and it's really a pity that not more was recorded, the potential is definitely there, as with many others. I guess, the band broke up shortly after that.

V/A - 1984: The First Sonic World War 1984

This great Compilation is not really new in Blogland but this is my copy and all scans are within and I think, the 1984 serie by the French label New Wave Records has spawned a remarkable series of international combos over time that sooner or later made it to some notoriety. The first part consists mainly French sounds, but that changed with each additional one and bands from all over the world were asked to send their demos for the following volumes and exclusive, four comps in all, were created. Rare items these days I would say. A short review: "This French Sampler contains a wide variety of Punk styles: classical, garage, thrash, skunk (big in France), and drum-machine/synth Punk (which the French seem to have cornered the market on). Some choice thrash, and there’s lots of good stuff and a dozen more. Tres bien!" (Tim Yohannan, MRR #15 • July 1984) A little Oi! stuff is also there. I like the slab for its perfect mix of songs and the artwork is also excellent. Never boring and selectable at any time. It's getting warm today, so a little trip to the lake... music on.

1.Benefactor Of People - HUMAN BEING
2.Nucléaire Mon Ami - LES CADAVRES
3.New Clear War - ANGRY RATS

STRYCHNINE - Je Veux 1981

Second album by Strychnine on Disc'Az. Coming from the Punk wave of 1977, the group made up of five friends from the François Magendie high school in Bordeaux and took part in the Mont-de-Marsan Festival. A year later they recorded the first album Jeux Cruels in 1980 and one more fucking year later this piece of wax and broke up nine months later and reactivated in 2008 and the third album, Tous Les Cris followed in 2010 and earned mostly positive feedbackThey're also featured on lots of nasty Compilations which want to be found. Twelve songs that are a bit more wave oriented than the debut and for my taste it lacks a bit of power, but still some highlights and my short review: nice and acceptable.

THE RUDES - Join The Army! EP 2008

The Rudes were a four piece from Tours and consisted of Lionel (vocals), Farid (guitars), Greg (bass), Simn (drums) and they really didn't exist long and this is their only EP on Une Vie Pour Rien? with three very good Oi!/Punk pieces and it's really a shame that the group no longer exists because they have the potential to become an important group like the Tour De France (that was a remarkably exciting race today)In any case a very good slab and absolutely suitable for the French holiday, what do you think?

OENIX - Ils Veulent Coucher Avec Sheila 7'' 1980

I'm not very active on the blog right now so I'm a bit slack, I think I need a break and my head is empty as well. I don't like writing too much about the following record either, somehow I came across to this four piece from Rouen and this is their first 7Inch on Ponce Pilate and it's a nice two song goodie with female vocals. A second single followed but this one isn't remotely charming but what I recommend to you is a Compilation called Débarquement 77 which was released via Mémoire Neuve in 2020 and this nugget features fourteen unreleased tracks by eight interesting French bands from the years 1977-1980, including two by Oenix.

LES VERMINES - Lulu's Bollocks Circus 1985

Today a record from the wanted list and it's the second mini-album by the Vermines from Rouen and their debut Bad Childhood (1983) was already a classic, so the second slab is a decent sequel. Unfortunately only eight songs on it, but every one is a real treat, the four know how to write good songs and be remembered. In 1989 follows a cassette with rough recordings called We'll Pull A Fast One On You (listen) and this tape pretty much reflects the concerts of the Vermines, in terms of atmosphere and rhythm. Superb and passionate!

- Great Thx to Reinhard -

V/A - Bloodstains Across The World #7 2022

Well it's time for one more Bloodstains Compilation and this one is cheap like the other "from all over the world" (from #3) and kept in a simple CD-R format, but I'm pleased that there are always maniacs who share their things, in contrast to other arrogant Assholes who defame such small people even though they don't know them at all and believe that they contribute a part of underground culture with their so-called professional Compilations (hahaha...), they just have to get their ass kicked and I give them a big Fuck You! I prefer to take these because the originals aren't tangible and I am grateful for this and everyone who thinks the same way will be enthusiastic with this cheap but cool one.

WART - s/t 12'' 1986

A fragrant second post before Bundesliga now: formed 1981 in Rennes, this four piece was first called Angry Rats and line-up was Sylvain alias Polio (vocals), Jello (guitar), DDcadent (bass), Sidney (drums), all of them with a strong influence of the Punk explosion in 1977. The band then practiced its scales on small local scenes. When their basser was replaced by Crépon in 1983, they changed their name into Wart (portmanteau word of War and Art) and tended to turn their back on rough Punkrock into playing a darker New Wave sound. In 1984, they released the track 'New Clear War' on the 1984: The First Sonic World War (coming soon) & Rot In Hell Compis under their foundation name and a few month later under the new name Wart the track 'Where's The Sun?' on the brilliant 1984 The Second Compilation on New Wave Records, two years later their only mini-album via Angry Rats Production (own label) which not many knows, including me, and this grandiose slab was released presumbly in a very limited edition, and I thank the person who lit me up with this and who sent me this five piece, a fantastic Wave/Punk goodie and it's catchy as hell, strong and interesting. After a first split in early 1986, Wart quickly reformed around Jello & Polio, supported by the two Douillard brothers, Pascal on drums and Jean-Yves on bass. It was under this formula that they opened for the Fleshtones in Rennes, and were part in the Transmusicales de Rennes on December 14, 1986, at the Salle de la Cité, for the "Nuit Fiesta Bérurière" along with other renowned French bands. In 1988 the group broke up again.

V/A - Oi! Rare & Exotica Vol.2 1999

Let's continue with the second unofficial Volume of massive rare Oi! goodies and again released via Teenage Rebel Records and the selection is excellently cast with twenty-three tracks, which stretched out the middle finger towards to the boring establishment. This time with an info sheet and a few words from it: "Again a lot of more or less unknown bands from all over the world are featured with recordings from 1981-1998. Everybody should know the 80's Oi! bands from England, so there's no need to present them here again like on many other Oi! Compis. So discover something new, have fun and always remember: The world is big, manigfold and real Oi! is anti-rascist (which doesn't mean it's leftwing)." Together with Volume 1 this record offers a lot of exclusive material, good songs and every band doesn't sound dull or wooden, what means in the end: no stupid music goulash. Get both!

DOGS - Go Where You Want To Go 12'' 1978

Second release on Melodies Massacre by the Dogs from Rouen and this five track goodie was recorded in Boulogne in only Forty-Eight hours and received very good reviews in the press and gave the band more and more concerts. In 1979, they signed to a Major (Phonogram) and released their debut album DifferentThey gained a decent following in France and their likeable, frantic catchy music gained a certain notoriety accordingly and their gigs were always well attended. This was reflected in their creativity and numerous albums/singles were recorded up until 2001 and since then things have been quiet on the vinyl front and I can't say if the bands still active.... so enjoy now five splendid pieces of brilliant songwriting.

STALAG - Date Limite De Vente 7'' 1981

Stalag was a short-lived four piece from Bordeaux, today their lone 7Inch on Studio Isis Records with two superb smasher. Info: It all started in the spring of 1978 when Kick, singer of Strychnine, friend of Thierry introduced him to two of his friends, one bassist, the other drummer: Richard and Jean. Following Chinoi's rapid passage to this post, deemed too old and technical, Vincent "Tungstène" Simonacci, a student from Dordogne, was recruited after having worked hard to impress his examiners. The audition of a first demo was almost fatal to the combo, but the real blow is dealt a little later when Richard, pillar of the band, leaves Stalag to join Strychnine. The savior will be Raymond Belliard, alias "Beber" & "Magic Ray", a roadie from Standards with an unforgettable look that our three friends flashed on. According to legend, Beber, who had a superb bass which he had never played in his life, surveyed the repertoire in a few days. The quartet was born and started with the anthem "You're not good for nothing!" their brief existence. The image of the bad wankers that they give off at the first appearance is contrasted by the committed statements, the sound and the self-sacrificing atmosphere of their concerts. Stalag works hard and Thierry shows in his lyrics with his magic pen with privileged themes such as fashionable Parisianism, society and the left behind, daddy's boys and the forbidden.

Their charisma puts them more in line with the Clash than the Pistols, and Stalag's many fans (who formed very quickly) chant these words as they gaze at the stage and pogo around, nurturing the group's darkest side. Stalag becomes identifiable to the institutions, who call it "public disorder". Some concerts are canceled as a precaution. It is both the excesses and the ultra-realism of the revolutionary message that make Stalag a historic group. Traces of their precocious power can be heard on this 7Inch and on some wild compilations. But Stalag is best enjoyed live. They will include more than a hundred appointments in total, which is not negligible for a group of the time! They owe this activity in large part to the work of Boogie Production, a company run by Richard and Fabrice, which gave birth to the famous Bordeaux rock tours. In 2003 Cameleon Records re-released their single in an edition of 300 copies and was sold out in a short time and 2007 followed a compilation Dernier Cri via Mémoire Neuve with all songs of their active days plus rare live goodies. Stalag rules, even today!
