THE IMPS - s/t LP 2022

Interesting plater by Bollmora Rekords and this combo meets me for the first time and they kick really ass. The Imps started 1977 in Stockholm and members were Anders (vocals), Jonas & Kai (guitars), Magnus (bass), Christer (drums) and unfortunately never made it onto vinyl during their active days. So this little compilation features fourteen songs (recorded 1978-1981, I think) from their rehearsal room and probably also live pieces in an extreme uncooked & raw quality. A few liner notes: "And in the late '70s, when the Sex Pistols and Ramones were putting out their records, musical ability wasn't important. However, we were motivated and formed the Imps at a young age (fifteen and still students) and took part-time jobs to fund our equipment. Somehow we got everything together and started rehearsing in a basement of our school with cover versions and after a while we played our first gig to a full house at a school party in Fisksätra. It was a great loud evening and when we were finished after thirty minutes, only ten people were left in the room, but those ten loved us. The Imps got better and better and they gigged all around Stockholm. In 1981 we opened for the Dead Kennedys at a place called Underground in Stockholm. The band made two demo tapes before we called it a day in 1982." (Anders, January 2022)

You see, this is a little story of how it happened at many places in those days, and the will & desire to make music burns like wildfire and is the drive to start something meaningful with its young age. The Imps are passion, crazy & musically simple but incredibly sympatheticListen!

STRINDBERGS - Bibeln 1983

Interesting band (named after Swedish author August Strindbergfrom Stockholm that create a nice New Wave sound with a guitar flashing here and there that also sounds punkie at times, but the most part the tracks stay true to the three-minute framework. At first I was a bit skeptical because of the cover and the band name, but when converting the files I became friends with them and even listened twice, you see... the stuff works. You need food: Strindberg's original members consisted of the former KSMB drummer Johan Johansson on guitar & vocals, the former the Moderns bassist Janne Borgh on vocals & bass and Johan Carlén on drums. The latter stopped after the recording of the album Bombpartyt to concentrate on art studies. He was replaced by Pär Lundström, who started playing with the band during its last tour. During Strindberg's short time, they managed to release three albums & three singles. The first album was though to be a live album from a concert @ the Ultra house in Stockholm but a mistake by the sound technician led to that nothing was recorded that day and the album Bibeln was instead recorded in studio. The mini-album Med Strindbergs Ur Tiden came about as a result of a couple of days of studio time when a new single was to be recorded, but instead the group had time to make a whole album. The sound on the album is simple and raw, and sounds more like the band could sound live. The last album, Bombpartyt, was recorded six months later. Hard tour life and private problems led a little later to the split of the band. There were two compilations released on CD: Strindbergs (1990) and Släktklenoder 82-84 (2005).

In 2009, the band reunited at the Peace & Love festival and on the roof of Kulturhuset together with the drummer from Hellacopters, Robert Eriksson. The gigs were so much fun that there were repeats in 2010 with two gigs @ Kulturhustaket and one @ Ögir in Köping, and 2011 with a gig again at Kulturhustaket. 2012 was the international year of Strindberg and the band then played a few exclusive gigs around Sweden, including at a sold-out Nalen in Stockholm and @ Sticky Fingers in Gothenburg. The line-up consisted of Johan Johansson, Janne Borgh and again drummer Robban Eriksson from Hellacopters. Since then, the band has repeatedly played single gigs with the same line-up.

I think, a nice record that is good for stress relief.

V/A - Vertigo - Synth Punk Blasts 1978-1984 [2020]

When I took notice of this record I bought it immediately, on the one hand because the song selection is great, the time of release, the bands (more than 50% unknown) and I love international stuff, and then limited, so damn... why waiting?? Info: Vertigo is a compilation of SynthPunk, mainly from little known bands. This first volume will be available (vinyl only, limited to 300 copies) on December 15th, features American, German, British & Swedish bands. The term SynthPunk has been popularized in recent years, or rather vulgarized, becoming a genre that mostly describes electronic or new wave bands. This compilation highlights anger and nihilism punk with the violent rhythm of a fingering that assails a keyboard. Here, no synth pop, no new wave, no experimental music. This could be the sequel to the Killed By Synth compilation which is also led by raw razor shape synthesizers.

brilliant review: "Well, first things first: compared to the unrelated but similarly-themed Killed by Synth comp. that preceded it, this new comp at least succeeds in only including bands that actually used keyboards, so no BIG BOYS, OIL TASTERS, or BOB this time around. In true KBD tradition, the focus here is on the the flipped-out and the fucked-up in the words of the compiler(s), “no synth pop, no new wave, no experimental music” and despite (presumably) being named after the SCREAMERS song, Vertigo skips over the usual synth-punk suspects in favor of some deeper and less obvious cuts. Highlights include the Bloodstains-via-Red Snerts snot of “Sophistication” by PLASTIC IDOLS (Houston’s answer to DOW JONES & THE INDUSTRIALS), organ-smeared mutant new wave with wild femme vocals from Santa Cruz’s SCHEMATIX on “Nothing Special,” the dark, frenetic end-times robo-pulse of “Happy Funeral” by Sweden’s KITCHEN & THE PLASTIC SPOONS, the jarring juxtaposition of sparse minimal wave and intense, unhinged vocals in German from DER KÜNFTIGE MUSIKANT’s “Es Ist Kalt”… also, totally bold move with the inclusion of “Food Fight” by the VILLAGE PEOPLE (yes, really) in the post-disco early ’80s, they revamped their image to pass as New Romantics and recorded this one-off, utterly dumb but kind of amazing slice of PLASTIC BERTRAND esque punksploitation with the former “construction worker” channeling his inner Tomata Du Plenty, now officially enshrined as the first dollar bin KBD bonzer. Not a predictable comp by any means, and that’s very much to its credit. (Erika Elizabeth, MRR #454 • March 2021)

This blast works fine and rubs really against my nervous head. Have a relaxed time with this hot fucking stuff and a pleasant time travel!

THE KRIXHJÄLTERS - Hjälter Skelter 12'' 1988

Second release by this four piece from Stockholm on Chicken Brain Records (541 handnumbered copies) and was the debut Guineapig Assasinator more in the Hardcore/Punk sector at home is now the sound clearly slipped into the metal/crossover genre and all lyrics are performed in English. There are five songs for your ears and a saxophone can also be heard which is an interesting acoustic addition, I don't know any metal band that uses this instrument. Check this out.

RAJOITUS & UTANFÖRSKAPET - Livet Verkar Meningslöst Igen Split LP 2014

Extremely rough split 12Inch by two Swedish combos on Fight Back Records/P.P.P. Records/Turist I Tillvaron/Rawby Records and 500 copies were pressed. Rajoitus are from Borås, formed in 1992 and broke up in 2008. Founding members Jani (vocals) and Pete (guitar) wanted to make a band that sounded like old Finnish Hardcore and took on two other people Marko (guitar) and Wacker (drums). After a couple years Wacker moved away from town and in 1995 the band took Pena on drums and recorded their first demo Tuomittun Epäuskon Sortoon. They played their first show in the winter of 1996. They continued to play more out of town including Finland and re-released their demo as Hardcore Attack 1995 12Inch and the Historia Kussessa EP (1996). During a show in Finland Jakke from Kaaos saw them and offered them a record deal for the Nyt On Kuolema Täällä 7Inch (1998), before recording the album Wacker returned and replaced Pete on guitar. - Utanförskapet were founded in Hedemora and consisted of T.B. (vocals), Jimpa (guitars), Björn (bass), Tomas (drums) and their first vinyl is the Vildhjärta album from 2012, followed by a second one four years later. I think the band broke up after their last EP which came out five years ago, that's all. Choose your favourite!

TV EYE - Mythoman 2014

The new week starts loud and excessive with the second album of the swedish combo TV Eye which came via Spastic Fantastic/Hoax Records (limited to 300 copies on white vinyl) and this goodie is full with fantastic material. Some time ago they visited this theater with their terrific My Generation EP and if you missed it you should definitely catch up. The album features thirty-two hot catchy blasts in the typical Spastic Fantastic "One Minute Song" style and fits perfectly to the Hardcore sound of the Eighties, fast & dynamic, and I hope that this cursed six-day week will pass at this pace. A start is already been made.

VON GAM - s/t EP 2013

Swedish KBD cracker by this three piece from Hovmantorp called Von GamSocks (vocals/guitars), Fripps (bass), Tjup (drums), and they always welcome in my world, especially when Slynkel Rekords [003] also releases a nice 7Inch with five rare nuggets in a limited edition of 300 copies in yellow vinyl. The studio songs were recorded in March 1981 and the live goodies came from a gig on 26.09.1980 in Leesbo at the LadyJane club. More info about the band in the Blog, this record is limited to 300 copies, so visit Slynkel at home

VICIOUS VISIONS - Retrodisrespect 1980-1983 [2019]

Vicious Visions was formed in Halmstad by Magnus Svensson alias No (vocals) & Bo Karlsson alias Mr. Boo (instruments) but soon moved to Berlin and honed his craft in occupied houses in the shadow of the iron curtain. They may come from the same city as Roxette but their music has more in common with Suicide, Stooges and the Residents. Where the single "I beat you" got an extra dimension because the band had no drummer at the time of recording and therefore used drum machine, Retrodisrespect can give a slightly broader understanding of how Vicious Visions sounded; here are songs from both full band set to just the duo behind the single. From wild Punk cleaners to Suicide-scented nowave. In collaboration with the band, Busy Bee Productions can finally give the world a full-length album with Vicious Visions. You can read in Peter Jandreus' Swedish Punk Encyclopedia (which features the cover of the 7Inch "I Beat You/No No's" on the cover) that the duo began in 1979 with covers of the Sex Pistols drowned in an ocean of Feedback and howling. Vicious Visions was a trio with Burco Bozztic drummer of Sabotage 81 for some time, the group performed locally in Malmö, Gothenburg, Denmark & Germany... This fantastic anthology published in 2019 by Busy B Production allows you to do an opinion beyond their single single, an approach much closer to the Residents of the 80s with Snakefinger, Chrome and the early Punk wave of the Screamers than the Swedish Punk bands of the time. Vicious Vision's single "I Beat You" is a holy grail within the Punk, not only because of the limited edition of just 109 items, but also because it is a Monster hit. Great Stuff!

TROUBLEMAKERS - Vild & Vacker 1999

We stayed in Sweden and meet the Troublemakers from Gothenburg again with their third record on Ägg Tapes & Records with fourteen decent rockin' goodies and if you enjoyed the singles then the album will appeal to you as well. We enjoy catchy 90's Punk as it was presented almost everywhere at the time and that certain amount of mid-tempo Rock'N'Roll inevitably mixes with top notch Punk sound and I'm too drunk to let out any more words, besides being disappointed by people who say it was nice and confirm exactly the opposite but that doesn't belong here, it's purely privateIt doesn't matter, people are and will always be shit and this post won't change anything about that. Enjoy the record and don't ask why, it's useless anyway.

SÖTLIMPA - A Non Fitting Generation 12'' 1984

It's a bit chilly this morning so it takes some heated music to warm you up and the following slab from Skvaller Records does that perfectly. Sötlimpa was a Swedish combo from Mölndal outside Gothenburg and consisted of Jesus (vocals), Martin (guitars), Raimo (bass), Hans (drums). The band was formed 1981 in the beginning of the second wave of Punk, influenced by bands like the Exploited and developed from Punk with Oi!-influences to a raw Hardcore quartet. In total they released a Single, a 12Inch and two cassettes and represented on numerous compilations. They disbanded in 1984, before re-emerging in 1992, 1996 and 2017. In their relative short time if existence the gang is claimed to have made around 100 gigs and earned a reputation as a great live band. A useful review: "Up-tempo Hardcore with catchy rhythms from Sweden’s Sötlimpa. Driving pace but it keeps the harmony and beat. Fun, danceable stuff. Too bad it’s a muddy mix; still, you’ll never know as you fly with the music." (Pushead, MRR #20 • Dec. 1984) - Brilliant Stuff!

SABOTAGE - Sveriges Apor 7'' 2014

#007 from the popular label Slyngel Rekords has been sold out for a long time and you know why: 300 copies and more is not. Sabotage are from Solna (Swedish province of Stockholm län) and the four Thomas & Johan (guitar/vocals), Peter (bass), Matte (drums) recorded these two smasher as a demo at Sveriges Radio in Stockholm 1982 and they weren't even of legal age when the recordings were made, at least that's what the cover offers and that's amazing I thinkI wish I'd gotten into Punk when I was seventeen, I sure wouldn't be doing a fucking slave job right now. Fact is, that unfortunately only these two nuggets survived and possibly the band was only conceived as a small project to make school days more pleasant, who knows? "The band started as SEG DEG in the new year 81/82 and soon the name was changed to Sabotage because there were other bands with the same name we didn't know about. We (Sabotage) shared a rehearsal space with Thorsten Flinck's band Rockvindar, later CasablancaIn autumn they recorded a number of demo songs and shortly after that, the bassist was fired and we continued without a bass player for a few months. In total, Sabotage managed about ten gigs between 82-83. Mostly we played at Solna's leisure parks, but also at a youth rock festival in Huddinge and at the big Gräsrockfestivalen in Solna. The last performance was at the theater school in Stockholm after an invitation from Thorsten. By then, Sabotage had hired a bass player and interest in continuing with the band had cooled significantly and in 1983 the band broke up. Johan has continued in the arts and there also in a musical context, i.a. in the group Hedningarna and in own music projects and songwriting. Matte has not touched or owned drums since the age of 12, but started again in his 40s by co-founding the Punk band Strindberg Som Tortyr - SST. Peter sometimes plays in cover bands. Thomas no longer plays, but is still loyal to Punk music." Check both goodies via Slyngels bandcamp base and enjoy!

DISSEKERAD / EARTH CRUST DISPLACEMENT - Split EP 2020

Hardcore to the power of two, four smasher, two per band. Released via Rawmantic Disasters in an edition of 300 copies. First, Dissekerad (members of Totalitär & Makabert Fynd), a quartet from Stockholm and consists of Poffen (vocals), Mattis (guitars), Andreé (bass), Pyri (drums) and they deliver no frills. High end classic swedish Hardcore with hypnotic riffs, lovely straight forward in your face as you need it. Earth Crust Displacement from Berlin return with two songs from the 2016 session from the well known D-Takt Noize album. Raw, brutal, noisy and lovely distorted as a Fuck in the desert while it's snowing.

A solid review: "Two tracks of whirlwind Swedish Dissekerad. The pedigree here is formidable (I’ll just mention Avskum and Totalitär, because that should be more than enough), and the goods are worthy. A classic mid-paced cruiser starts off their side, and then they open it up with “Mardömmen Startar,” a pure fist-banging rager that leaves me reaching for 2015’s Mörkret Tilltar LP for more action. Germany’s Earth Crust Displacement takes a little of the nuance out of the mix, opting instead for a relentless high-speed D-beat crust assault. Noisier guitars, and they don’t even take the time to warm up your ears with an intro—they just fucking unload. I like the combination of the two bands—different but equally effective approaches to a tried-and-true genre. The split EP is a much-maligned format (and perhaps rightly so), but this one is worth its weight in wax. I expected nothing less from either band, and they both delivered." (Robert Collins, MMR #445, June 2020)

I'm going crazy, it's raining after so many sunny days. That's really remarkable, the meadows are strawy and anything but green. I guess it's similar across much of Europe & I'm really glad, I won't be here in a hundred years (sad the whole thing, or?), a red marker on the calendar! - Who cares.... enjoy the four single malts!

RADIOAKTIVA RÄKER - Verkligheten EP 1993

Ohhh my dear followers, bad news: my turntable is kaputt, the needle said goodbye and now I'm standing in the woods. Even shaved legs are of little use, believe me, damn damn damn. Well, now it must the stock of friends and sleeping rips to serve and the first combo is a freshly ripped 7Inch from Sweden and the combo is called Radioaktiva Räker, a TrallPunk (Trallpunk is a Swedish subgenre Punk style that is based on trall-friendly melodies, fast drum beats and often political (mostly left-leaning) or narrative texts. The pioneers of Trallpunk are said to be Asta Kask and Strebers, however, there are divided opinions about this. Trallpunk gained increased popularity during part of the 1990s) band which formed 1991 by teenagers Johan (vocals/guitars), Danne (guitars), Jimmy (bass), Jonas (drums) in Hofors, Gästrikland and disbanded in 2003 after a small summer tour. After two demos they caught in summer 1992 a record deal with Beat Butchers and all records, three albums & two 7Inches, came out there. Their fast, sing-along melodic songs came to symbolize for many the Swedish Punk/Wave that culminated in the mid-1990s.

The band reunited on 25.09.2009, for an evening with the celebration of the Beat Butchers 25 year anniversary. This occurred on Södra Teatern in Stockholm together with a number of other bands that have collaborated with Beat Butchers.

THE MODERNS - Suburban Life 2021

Sweden's first and best mod-revival band The Moderns mixed the love of 60's pop with the intensity of Punk and had the big breakthrough around the corner during the short but intense career. Based in Malmö, the Moderns existed from late 1978 to 1981 and founding members were Mats (vocals/guitar), Tony (guitar), Jan (bass), Rickard (drums) and early 1979 they released their first self-financed 7Inch The Year Of Today. The record gained a lot of publicity due to the freshness of the sound and the fact that nobody else did this kind of music in Sweden at the time. Some line-up changes followed and eventually another single plus an album was released in the early 80's but the album didn’t sell as much as was anticipated, partly due to switch to the Swedish language, and so the band broke up shortly after. Busy Bee Production has once again created a real highlight on vinyl and along with the second single, songs from a couple of compilation albums and some completely unreleased tracks, this record is the definitive collection with The Modern's first line-up. Limited edition, 600 copies (400 black & 200 blue vinyl). Grab a copy if you get the chance, because this is interesting stuff for all outsiders & undergrounders.

V/A - Step By Step EP 1989

Superb compilation on No Time To Be Wasted Records with six bands from all over the world. The first step took Soothsayer, a Canadian thrash metal band from Beauport/Quebec, founded 1985 and released four albums to date, last from 2019. Swedish Hardcore's Rövsvett were formed in Tranås 1983 and are already well-known guests in this theatre, numerous albums and 7Inches are available, the last came out this year. Leeds based speedie foursome Pleasant Valley Children formed in the late 80's and have released two tapes and one album, as well as a 7inch and compilations, the album's from 1991 and their last sign of life, I guess they broke up in the early Nineties. Patareni is a Hard/Grindcore combo from Zagreb and founded sometime in the early Eighties. Also very active on vinyl; five albums as well as numerous 7Inches and two tapes were recorded by 2021 and thrown among the people. Cat-O-Nine Tails was a HC/Punk act from Schrobenhausen and were active late Eighties to early Nineties. In their short lifespan they released two albums, one single and one tape. An established combo may spice up the grand finale: the Hard-Ones from Sydney, who delight us with their melodic Punkrock since 1982 and I think you know how many albums and singles and t-shirts and towels have been scattered over the world and an authentic live recording completes the march through this stage. - What is there to hear? A varied slab with six different hiking trails that leave little time to rest. Presented in a lovingly elaborate gatefold-cover, lots of infos/lyrics and on red/yellow vinyl, partly in a limited edition. Superb!

1.Deadly Fear - SOOTHSAYER
2.Kontaktproblem - RÖVSVETT
3.Big Sinker/No Second Chance - PLEASENT VALLY CHILDREN
4.Kraj - PATARENI
5.Under Surveillance - CAT-O-NINE TAILS
6.Don't Wanna See You Cry (Live) - HARD-ONES

STRAITJACKET - Demented Perverts 2021

Sweden's first Punkband? At least one of the earliest. Fact is, Straitjacket were founded in Gothenburg in the Seventies by Freddie (vocals), Aron (guitars), Gerth (guitars/keys), Gert (drums) and didn't manage to put anything on vinyl in their short lifespan (disbanded in 1978). Busy Bee Production searched the hiding places of the members and after more than forty years finally dug up a sizable collection of demos and a live recording of the last concert at the legendary Errol's club in 1978 and brought it to this compilation, 600 copies (200 on clear vinyl). Musically very interesting, the four do not offer the usual Swedish dirty Punkrock as we know it, I discover a touch of good 50/60's Rock & Roll and that makes the slab doubly attractive. The first four songs were recorded in a studio in the mid 78's and were supposed to appear as 7Inch, but unfortunately this failed due to numerous reasons, the live recordings are consistently wilder, rougher & more punkier then the rest and all in perfect quality. After the split, the members continued in bands like Liket Lever, Lädernunnan, Cortex and Blue For Two. Sad words at the end: Freddie died in June 2016 at the age of Sixty-Four. - Fazit: this stuff rocks properly and is a superb legacy of a band that hardly anyone knows.

INGE VAL - Anti Parlamentarisk Rebellrock EP 1979

We're staying in Sweden and today I'm not going swimming because I'm going back to Frankfurt soon. This four piece, probably from Stockholm, released a small five track EP on Sista Bussen in the late seventies and the line-up was Ante (vocals & bass), Annika & Christian (guitars), Lennart (drums & vocals) and this is a nice KBD record and more infos are not available. But you can get more about Inge Val; a few liner notes waiting on the back but your swedish must be good for thisOtherwise there is quite a bit of compilation material from the four and I guess the band broke up in the early Eighties and merged into other relevant combos. Maybe at this point a subtle hint to the Wanted-List.... someone must have this fucking stuff, sharing is the motto. Now write a couple of Emails and play a little Backgammon, the last four days haven't been pleasant for me. El Skalmo Mi So Gonzlos!

BRACKMANGLARNA - Popnissar EP 2015

Before I go back to the swimming lake today, another highlight from Slyngel Rekords, and number 010 is dedicated to a three piece from Linköping named Brackmanglarna and this bloody sucker was pressed 300 times. All three smashers were recorded in 1980 and the band consisted to my knowledge of Magnus (vocals/guitars), Johan (bass), Jan (drums) nd they made it to a record, so the detectives contact the band and they found this little three numbers at least. Excellent KBD Punk and again once more a band from the fundus of lost swedish delicacies. It's already twenty-four degrees, I'll go right away and swim a bit and I hope you also have the opportunity to jump into cool water and tonight there is trout with delicious butter potatoes, I love this dish. 🎵🐟 🌞 Life Is Great!

ANTI-CIMEX - The Complete Demos Collection 1982-1983

"One of the most pioneering and seminal Scandinavian Hardcore bands ever, that influenced past and present generations with their trademark of rough sound, iconic art and enraged tunes: Anti-Cimex"Formed 1981 in Gothenburg, the original line-up was: Nillen (vocals), Jocke (guitar), Jonsson (bass) & Charlie (drums). After rehersing for a while, they released their first EP Anarkist Attack. In 1982 the band kicked out Nillen and Jonsson took over the vocals part and Conrad became the new bassist. They also released a new single later in the year called Raped Ass and in 1983 they released another 7Inch Victims Of A Bombraid. Three years later Anti Cimex released a mini-LP called Criminal Trap. At this time, Jocke had got tired of the band and they asked Cliff, if he wanted to join the band, but he said no and the rest of the band members got tired of the problems and it resulted in the band splitting up. In 1990, Anti Cimex decided to start the band again after Cliff had agreed to join and they say, that it is thanks to him, that they regrouped. They released the comeback album Absolut Country Of Sweden the same year. In 1993, Anti Cimex released a raw live album Made In Sweden. The show was also shot on video, but never released. They later released a new live 7Inch Fucked In Finland Live 92 and later on followed the album Scandinavian Jawbreaker. After the release of this album, the band split up and the members started in other bands, such as Driller Killer (Cliff) and Wolfpack (Jonsson). In 2004, Pelea Records released the A Tribute To Anti-Cimex compilation, featuring a line up of d-beat and crust bands from all over the world, that were influenced by the Swedes. With this record, which took a lot of time and effort, the Italian label Agipunk cobbled together a firework of twenty-nine raw and pure tracks, and equipped them with interesting infos and also conjured up some colored limited vinyl for collectors. Fascinating, Spock would say!
