Last X-Mas post and it's an interesting Compilation which was released in 2002, and this Sucker compiles both sides of previous singles from renowned French combos at the heyday of fresh, rough and awesome music. Most of them are probably familiar to you because the original 7Inches are in the blog and many are also represented on other comps. You see, the sell-out continue again and again and again...... I mean, it's okay but always the same songs is a bit boring, but what do I know? This part comes with detailed informations, but unfortunately only in French. Well, apparently only intended for the local Punkrocker. Whatever, the music speaks the language that everyone understands and overall it's a good one.

V/A - Vertigo - Synth Punk Blasts 1978-1984 [2020]

When I took notice of this record I bought it immediately, on the one hand because the song selection is great, the time of release, the bands (more than 50% unknown) and I love international stuff, and then limited, so damn... why waiting?? Info: Vertigo is a compilation of SynthPunk, mainly from little known bands. This first volume will be available (vinyl only, limited to 300 copies) on December 15th, features American, German, British & Swedish bands. The term SynthPunk has been popularized in recent years, or rather vulgarized, becoming a genre that mostly describes electronic or new wave bands. This compilation highlights anger and nihilism punk with the violent rhythm of a fingering that assails a keyboard. Here, no synth pop, no new wave, no experimental music. This could be the sequel to the Killed By Synth compilation which is also led by raw razor shape synthesizers.

A brilliant review: "Well, first things first: compared to the unrelated but similarly-themed Killed by Synth comp. that preceded it, this new comp at least succeeds in only including bands that actually used keyboards, so no BIG BOYS, OIL TASTERS, or BOB this time around. In true KBD tradition, the focus here is on the the flipped-out and the fucked-up in the words of the compiler(s), “no synth pop, no new wave, no experimental music” and despite (presumably) being named after the SCREAMERS song, Vertigo skips over the usual synth-punk suspects in favor of some deeper and less obvious cuts. Highlights include the Bloodstains-via-Red Snerts snot of “Sophistication” by PLASTIC IDOLS (Houston’s answer to DOW JONES & THE INDUSTRIALS), organ-smeared mutant new wave with wild femme vocals from Santa Cruz’s SCHEMATIX on “Nothing Special,” the dark, frenetic end-times robo-pulse of “Happy Funeral” by Sweden’s KITCHEN & THE PLASTIC SPOONS, the jarring juxtaposition of sparse minimal wave and intense, unhinged vocals in German from DER KÜNFTIGE MUSIKANT’s “Es Ist Kalt”… also, totally bold move with the inclusion of “Food Fight” by the VILLAGE PEOPLE (yes, really) in the post-disco early ’80s, they revamped their image to pass as New Romantics and recorded this one-off, utterly dumb but kind of amazing slice of PLASTIC BERTRAND esque punksploitation with the former “construction worker” channeling his inner Tomata Du Plenty, now officially enshrined as the first dollar bin KBD bonzer. Not a predictable comp by any means, and that’s very much to its credit. (Erika Elizabeth, MRR #454 • March 2021)

MAGNUS UGGLA - Vittring 7'' 1978

Never heard of this man but he seems to be very popular in its home country and this 7Inch is the title track of his 4th album, a decent rock number while the B-side has a live cut which also stomping. Here's a bit info: "Magnus Uggla is a Swedish artist, composer, actor, and occasional radio host known for his satirical lyrics. Uggla was the lead singer of the hard rock band JUSO (later renamed Alexander Lucas) before going solo in the early 70's. Their influences were Black Sabbath, The Groundhogs and Alice Cooper among others. Uggla's first two glam- and art rock-inspired albums Om Bobbo Viking and Livets teater didn't sell well, the first only about 500 copies in Sweden and Livets teater even less. But his departure from glam rock with the punk and hard rock inspired gained him much popularity and the album sold about 150 000 copies. In the 1970s, several music magazines gave Magnus the name "The Swedish Ian Hunter". In 1979, he was one of the members in Magnus Uggla Band. Plastic Bertrand has recorded a French version of Magnus Uggla's song "Vittring". It's called "Rock'n'Roll je te hais" and is found on Bertrand's LP L'Album."

V/A - Bloodstains Across Belgium 1997

Not really a wish but I am fond of this post especially because the sound booms now out of my boxes and I swing my pretty ass to that. Number one of the bloody Belgium section with sixteen rare goodies and you will find a few of the original 7Inches in this Blog or over at kbdrecords. A small country with a great Punkscene and lots of cool bands which release a lot of good records and I like the rough sound and the offensive words, very very pleasant - So far so good, now I rip a record and come back soon.

THE SOFTIES - Suicide Pilot 7'' 1978

The Softies was a Dutch punk band that released two singles in 1978, the title track Suicide Pilot is shown on the Killed By Death #1234 compilation. They started during the first punk wave that flooded Holland in the fall of 77, when Michael Smith, a former roadmanager of the Damned came from the U.K. to Amsterdam to form his own band,soon linking up with FrankNstein and Joe Thumper. The Band soon signed up a record deal and the first single 'Suicide Pilot" was released jan.1978. The single was well received by both media and public with its much recognizable air-raidsiren,the opening of the song, and of the many shows that followed. The beginning of march 78 the Softies were joined by

Captain Sensible, who had left the Damned after their splitup, and took up the leadguitar with the Softies. A tour in Germany followed as well as Gigs around Holland. A second single was released in april and the now classic song 'jet boy jet girl', a satire version of the Plastic Bertrand version 'ca plane por moi' (by the way mentioned by Johnny Rotten in The New Musical Express as single of the week!!') was performed/sung by the Captain, great stuff and its said he is still performing it this day and age!!!! Anyhow, it was time for the Captain to go back home, to start his own band, and the Softies were a punkrockin threepieceband again. The Softies released their only album Nice & Nasty album in 1979 on Charlie Records. Michael sadly passed away, round about spring 2005.

V/A - New Wave 1979

Well, I have a feeling history is repeating itself right now, and war has unequivocally caught up with stupid humanity again. Hard times are coming and the impotence of the politicians leads to death and destruction. Anyone who still thinks that humans are intelligent beings will be disappointed once again and will have to reconsider their attitude, but I don't want to comment further on the current situation, I'm trying to concentrate on the essentials, and that's the music. - This Compilation from K-Tel Records is a nice selection of hits from bands that were slowly gaining popularity in the late 70's/early 80's and released a few catchy tunes that were heard almost everywhere which added to their notoriety. Many cheap compilations came out , because the fat major record wankers sensed easy money with this new kind of music. This is one of them and not bad at all in my opinion. Dear friends, stay fascinate, have a great weekend and enjoy the sound of this sixteen virtuosos.. wherever you are.

DE STRANGERS - Punk 7'' 1978

Here is another 7inch with the sounding title 'Punk', therefore here. De Strangers was an Antwerp group especially gained fame by humorous - often socially critical - to sing lyrics in Antwerp dialect on well-known hit melodies. In this case they do a nice version of Plastic Bertrand' hit Ça Plane Pour Moi and it's not really vital but if you do not know them you will have fun, like me. The group was founded on May 1952 by Gust Torfs, Alex Boeye, Pol Bollansee and John De Wilde, though they sang then in Standard dutch. Their first performance was in Hoboken on 7.January 1953. By 1965 they had already performed 1000 times. Lots of records were released but nothing for my taste so. The flip is probably a typical De Strangers song, funny & danceable. The bands last performance took place on 14.May 2002 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in Antwerp, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the group. In 2003, they donated their entire archive to the city of Antwerp. In 2006, a one-off reunion concert took place in honor of the Mayor's Ball in Antwerp. That's it!
