NASTY BOYS - Eagle EP 1981

Back from a gig in Frankfurt and puhhh.... it was so hot and I stood for an hour. So, now a combo from Alingsås with a very rough Swedish punkartefact! 200 copies were made and the band split up before it was released. Later two members started Really Fast Records and the Nasty Boys contribute two songs on the first Really Fast compilation. This is their one and only vinyl with four numbers, the title track is an awesome typical '77 punk style KBD smasher, the second & third are two monotone moderate tunes while the last comes as a half reggae piece. Overall a pretty nice record, superrare typical pioneer Swedish punk sound.

E.A.T.E.R. - Doomsday Troops EP 1983

Ernst And The Edsholm Rebels – E.A.T.E.R. were formed in the summer of 1982 in Grums/Kil, Värmland, Sweden by Mikael “Gröten” Karlsson (guit/vox), Anders Brännström (bass), Peter “Pelle” Forsman (drums) and Hans “Hasse” Dahlgren (vox). and this first line-up of E.A.T.E.R. recorded Chaos Cassette vol.1 which was realesed in the fall of 1982. A number of gigs were played by this first line-up, among them the chaotic and by media well documented gig at Segmons Folkets hus in february of 1983. By the release of the bands debut EP Doomsday Troops (Ernst Records) Hasse was replaced by Mikael “Micke” Larsson as the leadsinger. Micke had earlier played in Psykjouren together with infamous and by now nationwidely known Buddha. Doomsday Troops EP was recorded and produced In KAAS by the band & Micke Blomqvist, and released in the summer of 1983. The record was sold all over the world, and E.A.T.E.R. recived recognition from people like Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys and Pushead, the artist that made Metallicas and the Misfits cartoons. With the new line-up and a sucessfull record-realese the band went on the road and toured Sweden. A review: "Not to be confused with the '77 U.K. punk band Eater, this Swedish group (Ernst And The Edsholm Rebels) floor down on the acceleration and rapidly hit fast, lightning doses of 1000-m.p.h. thrash mayhem. An outrageous display of burning speed and mind-boggling turbulence, combined with chaotic chops of lyrical expression. Don't be fooled by the hilarious intro to the title cut--this EP hauls its load fast and furious in the new Swedish tradition." - Pushead (from Maximum Rock'n'Roll #13, April/May 1984) - The band is still active and I recommend this five piece of classic swedish hardcore tunes and the compilations Really Fast #1 and Killed By Hardcore #2.

REALLY RED - Teaching You The Fear 1981

Great early Texas Punk from Really Red: U-Ron (vocals), Kelly (guitars), John (bass) and Robert (drums), a band whose sound changed with every release. They managed to be political without being heavy-handed or tiresome. For those unfamiliar with these fellers, here's some background. First of all, the name and what it means according to different band members... (full bio on breakmyface) - They existed from 1978 until 1985 and released two albums and several 7Inches on their own C.I.A. Records. Review: "Really Red's first LP is utterly mind blowing from start to finish. Their songs follow no convention, boiling in the same musical melting pot where the Minutemen and early Wire swam. The vocals often call to mind D. Boon, who also could convey fierce emotion whether he was singing or shouting, joking or railing... The title track, with its menacingly anxious bass line and shakily spoken lyrics "Take one chicano with his hands cuffed behind his back" is one of the most haunting political punk songs ever written. When it explodes into the chorus and Ronnie spits out "Teaching You The Feeee-aaaar! It really is a revelation.. This is what pop music will sound like after the revolution." - So, find them on these compilations, fast and short... now I have to go to a wedding party, cheerio!

INFERNO - Tod & Wahnsinn 1984

Bad news folks, I think my computer fucked up because all I see is pink and it makes really no fun to work with this shit so this willbe for now the last post and after Crete I see how it goes on. Inferno is a great german hardcore band from Augsburg/Bavaria and formed in the early years of 1982. This is their debut album on Mülleimer Records and the music is a sheer pleasure. Most of the songs are fast, thrash-speed punk rock, although Inferno slow it down for mid-tempo songs and often add a melodic element as well. Lyrically the band seems to have good intentions, but don't really break any new ground. "Ram It Up" is kind of dumb, but really just seems to be German teenagers trying to be "punk" & singing in English a second language. Overall it's nicely done, but suffers a little bit from not really standing out in any area. Anyway, with twenty tracks is this a solid record and even Pushead was very pleased. Check them on these Compilations.

SOCIAL UNREST - SU-2000 1985

Social Unrest hailed from Hayward, near San Francisco, in 1980.They soon established themselves as one of the leading forces of the Bay Area early HC Thrash scene. The manic, political vocals of Creetin K-os were well supported by screeching guitars & ultra-fast tempos. The band released their 1st 7" (now much sought after) in 1981 on Infra Red Records. "Making Room For Youth" was produced by none other than Dead Kennedys guitar player East Bay Ray.

SU teamed up again with Ray a year later to produce their classic "Rat In A Maze" 12", released summer 82 on their Libertine Label. The seven songs of this EP are mostly fast except for "I love You", a PIL-like tune. "Red, White & Blue", with it's numerous speed changes, remains a highlight. They also appeared on Maximum Rock'n'Roll masterpiece 47 bands compilation, "Not So Quiet On The Western Front". The band played a lot with all the glory bands of the time, when the usual band brawls headed for some changing.

Original Band members Mark Monti & Danny Norwood remained the core of SU, Bass player John Vollick moved out to band management. In came Ray Vegas on bass duties & Jimi Brogan on guitar. Jason Honea, a Darby Crash fanatic, completed the new SU after the departure of Creetin K-os. The new line-up developped the original, screeching SU sound and brought it to new heights on the band's 1st full length "SU-2000" (again on Libertine) in 1985. Honea's melodic tones & thoughtful lyrics added a lot of deepness to all the great songs featured on "SU2000" : "I wanna be heard","Jimmy Rocks", "Rat In A Maze" are all
scorchers, while "Stranger Inside" & "Out My Window" have some really cool guitar bitterness works that will become one of SU's later trademarks.

A year later, the band released what is probably their masterpiece (unlike most bands, they never put out a weak record, though) ,the mighty "Before the Fall" LP (on Libertine in the US, Konurrel in Europe). The songwriting reached new grounds with songs like "American Steel","Golgotha","The New Tribes". The band was still fast & aggressive, but the vocals & guitars added great, original harmonies that couldn't be heard on any other record by any band. The slower numbers like "Night of the Long Knives" worked quite well too. Social Unrest now really had a sound of their own & were firmly established as one of California's most important band.

They heavily toured the US (they did it 4 or 5 times), opening for the Descendents' last show, appeared on the Viva Umkhonto compilation & got rave reviews of "Before The Fall". They embarked on their 1st Euro Tour in September 87, playing a show in Germany that would end on the"Mental Breakdown" live Album (on Lost & Found).

Ray left the band to join Attitude Adjustment, Ron Isa filled in to record the band's last album, "Now & Forever", released Fall 88. Some of the best SU songs are there w/ "Katarina Witt", "I'm The Nation" & "Sins Of Paris". "Handcuffs Too Tight" features the welcome back of Creetin K-os for a thrasher that brings back the band's original sound. The band called it quit shortly after. (Source: gug65free)

THE KRIXHJÄLTERS - Guineapig Assasinator 1986

The Krixhjälters, later Omnitron, was formed in Stockholm in 1982 by Rasmus Ekman (guitar, vocals), Pontus Lindqvist (bass, vocals) and Stefan Gorini (drums, vocals), inspired by the American bands Black Flag and Dead Kennedys. The band name was created partly as a parody of the construction of certain dance band names. The band's debut album was recorded in 1984 but first released in 1986, on the record label Rosa Honung. Already in 1985, however, the songs Magic Mushrooms and The Guardian Of Society were released on the compilation Really Fast Vol.2 with current Swedish punk bands. During a period of the mid-1980s, the band were more or less inactive. Pontus Lindqvist and Pelle Ström then joined the band Aggressiv, where Pontus sang and Pelle played guitar. Shortly after the first MLP was recorded, in 1985, guitarist Pelle Ström also started in the band, Gorini quit, and Stefan Kälfors replaced drums. The group signed a contract with CBR Records and recorded another Mini-LP, Hjälter Skelter (1988). At Krixhjälter's early recordings, some songs are sung in Swedish, but from Hjälter Skelter and onwards all texts are performed in English. The full-length album Evilution was released in 1989 and the band also had the opportunity to record the Christmas single A Krixmas Carol (1989) under the original name. This record consists of a common song on one side and on the other side in front of the band members, their song, with text and music written by each, in exactly one minute each. In 1989 the band was also represented with the song He Speaks on the collection album The Swedish Stand, published by Sinderella.

MISSBRUKARNA & PANIK - Split EP 1980

One of the first Swedish Hardcore bands are now legends Missbrukarna (The Abusers) from Hudiksvall. Here togehter with Panik from Bollnäs. This record is better known as Livet Är Mjölk EP and was released on Forsaljud Records. Finest early 80s Hardcore/Punk and Missbrukarna with four awesome killer tracks, all songs very intense and catchy. Sure they have to featured on the first Really Fast compilation with three cuts. A few gigs were played and in 1988 the band finally broke up. In 2012 the Swedish label Skrammel Records released a compilation LP called "Zooma In En Zombie" with all Missbrukarna tracks, rehersals in Forsa '81 & the Forsa Studio Live '87 and more, this is not a bad choice. Panik released only this two numbers and they're at home in a rough '77 punk style and both tunes are pretty with snotty guitars and unfortunately disappeared from the scene. Anyway, both bands understood what is punkrock all about and do this in a excellent way.

E.A.T.E.R. - System Failure... Abort And Retry 2010

The word for Monday comes today from Distortion Records with this superb compilation by E.A.T.E.R. (Ernst And The Edsholm Rebels). Originally formed 1982 in Grums, they released four EPs and the legendary split tape together with InchargeEighteen decent hardcore smasher from the Eighties (including the EP, the split tape & the Really Fast compi goodies). In the mid 80's Ernst & the Rebels dissolved after tremendous turbulence but reunited 1985 with new members, Snake (bass) and Jerker (drums). Some gigs were made with this setting. In 1986, the band was reunited once again with Pelle back on the drums, when they, among other things, did a European Tour and in 1989 they split up finally. - They reunited in spring 2010 again with new members and played at Punk Illegal, their first gig in twenty-four years. During the summer more gigs followed and in September they recorded their second EP If Nothing's Right...Go Left! with five newly written songs, released in 500 copies with a deluxe folding cover and splatter-colored vinyl. In October came this little fucker on vinyl in a limited edition of 300 copies in transparent vinyl, 700 in black. More touring through the States (2011) & Japan (2013). A fourth 7Inch Projectiles For The People came in 2015 with five more songs on Ernst Records. In January 2017 EATER decides to close down all operations after two years of inactivity. And now.... enjoy loud, shrill, upbeat melodies.

PÖBEL MÖBEL & ANTI-HUND MINA - Split 12'' 1984

Anti-Hund Mina + Pöbel Möbel are from the Jönköping area in fuckin' Sweden and these are the only vinyl cuts by Anti-Hund Mina while Pöbel Möbel made an album called Let Sleepin' Dogs Lie in 1987, an additional EP in 1986 plus a few compilation visits (Cultural Compost Pit! or Really Fast Vol.3, etc...). This golden shower splashes six energetic hardcore waves in your face, three each band, with a cool metal touch. The Anti-Hund songs are for me punkier and they put all their skills in it; short, rough and yummy, the warmth I like and drops must be, Huuiiiiiiiii - Nothin' more to say; a classic Swedish waterfall in any case!

P-NISSARNA - En Sanitär Olägenhet 2019

Likbas was released by the same label Ken-Rock (specializes in old swedish punk classics like Slyngel Rekords) as the following album by P-Nissarna and that is for sure a collector's edition in my opinion, because in 2004 came (only as CD) a compilation called Flumpungar via Swedish Punk Classics out and the songs partly overlap. This dittie was pressed in 500 copies on yellow, red and black vinyl (yellow 100, red 200, black 200) and you can discover tracks from the Jugend EP ('79), unreleased 1981 recordings, 1982 recordings which were later released by Really Fast Records as Världskrig III and four goodies from the Kalla Den Va Fan Du Vill compilation, released 2007 on CD via Ztar Records. Quick Info: P-Nissarna were one of the youngest bands with a real cult status from Falun. They were active in the years 1978 - 1982 and their lyrics were considered provocative at the time, and they still kick into many stupid pale moonfaces.

C.O.P. - Ever Alone 1986

Rabid fast pogo rhythms request entry into your house, by this five piece from somewhere in the remotest Walachei. C.O.P. (Call Of The Prisoner) was a short lived combo and consisted of Töpper (vocals), Spencer & Totti (guitars), Jörg (drums) and Dirk (bass). Ever Alone was released on Erazerhead Records, a Rock-O-Rama sub-label, and has the typical Egoldt sound and, as always, produced in such a way that you can't understand one fucking word and that is really a shame, because this minimalist seldom added a lyric-sheet, as economical as ever. They have really good songs in the baggage; fast, loud crackers mixed with melodic mid-tempo numbers give the whole thing an additional charm and provide their album an entertaining listening pleasure. Apparently other birds saw it the same way too, because in 1999 the slab was pressed again, as a bootleg of course, partly in multicolour splattered vinyl. Fazit: bombastic sonication, authentic, refreshing, PunkRock!

PARTY FORCE - s/t EP 2015

It's really amazing how life kicks ass at irregular intervals. This weekend, Saturday evening to be precise, is the DFB-Cup final, a highlight for me and my girlfriend, and we were really looking forward to this evening together, but it's canceled now, I'm bedridden with a fever and a sore throat, thirty degrees outside, she's in the hospital for some fucking glandular organ. Of course, health comes first blah blah blah etc..... but moments like this are rare and if you don't get them, it upsets me. Well, fuck it! First post in June is the debut 7Inch with five rippers by Party Force from Oakland, line-up Ref (vocals/bass), Brian (guitars), Hal (drums). I bought their record at a concert where they support, I think the UK Subs but I'm not sure, ist auch scheißegal, coole 7Inch with fast loud stuff. Enjoy!

THE NIKOTEENS - Slamdance Party Vol.3 1986

When we talk about Ingolstadt, only one band immediately comes to my mind: The NikoteensI'm sure fans of quality German HardcorePunk will know straight away that the guys have released their first album via the Cologne Malermeister, which doesn't sound bad at all. Circa two years later a tape was recorded named Hardcore Holocaust (1985), which can be read on the front cover, and thirteen of the eighteen songs were finally immortalized on this fucking vinyl, brought us by Starving Missile. And the fact that Americans also like fast, aggressive sounds from overseas is proven by a short and snappy review: Divided into a “Romantic” side and a “Realistic” side, this band pulls off an out-of-the-ordinary LP. Their punk is not generic usually, but doesn’t really drift into experimentation or post-punk to pull it off. Can’t really say what it is, but it’s a tad different. Worth checking out. (Tim Yohannan, MRR #38 • July 1986) The postman was just here with new material and I will get to it immediately to repay the donor who lent me the record. That means I'll be away for a while. Enjoy this brilliant album with a cold beer. I say Cheers, Baby!

ANGELIC UPSTARTS - 2.000.000 Voices 1981

Always an excellent choice is the sound of the Angelic Upstarts and I chose their third album because it includes lots of classics. Formed in South Shields 1977 by Mensi (vocals), Mond (guitar), Steve (bass) and Decca (drums) and they're still active. I have all their stuff I think and when I'm really pissed off with all their music bring me back to the ground and my head only turns half as fast. Have seen them here in the excess years ago and is was galactic. Anyway, the decent mix of fast punk, reggae and ballads makes this album worth listening to and not for nothing it reached #32 of the UK Indie charts. We're Gonna Take The World.... then let's get up!

BLACK REBELS - It's Time Of Violence 7'' 1984

Nothing much info about the Black Rebels from Santa Maria Nuova/Italy. This is their only record, self-released and they recorded both songs at Malleus Recording Studio if anyone is interested. Musically here we have not the typical Hardcore/Punk or Oi! stuff but rather a slight metal sound, this is not bad because they kick ass, at least the a-side is a fast metal-hardcore track, and the best is they sing in Italian. Ahhhh, I love this language, as Negazione, scream till you drop. The flip is a bit slower, over 4 minutes, in English and a little more Oi! oriented. Found a review: "Mid- to fast-paced punk tunes. While not thrash, they are really driving with lots of hooks and guitar power. Excellent production as well. Tim Yohannan (from Maximum Rocknroll #24, April 1985) - Overall a very good 7inch from a rather unknown band. Forza Italia!

LA PESTILENCIA - La Muerte... Un Compromiso De Todos 1989

A really fantastic album is the debut album of this band and I'm not really a connoisseur of South American punk, few bands come from there and you don't even get records quick in the next record store, my focus is more in Europe or Oceania, much more was produced in Brazil by excellent bands. But what the four gentlemen, Dilson (vocals), Francisco (guitar), Héctor (bass) and Jorge (drums), deliver here is worth all honors, eighteen splendid tracks as I'm used to from this continent; catchy, squeezed, fast and an outstanding singer. Packed in an elaborate artwork and via Mort-Discos released. On the back stands "limited edition" but I don't know how many... anyway... a bit wiki-info about them: La Pestilencia were founded 1986 in the capital Bogotá by Héctor and Dilson, the latter being the only permanent member of the group since its inception. The group is recognised as Colombia's first punk band and have been acclaimed for their influence on Colombia's alternative music scene, with critics noting Díaz's lyrics concerning social injustice, the violence perpetrated during Colombia's civil war, political corruption, the influence of foreign governments, and environmental concerns. To date they made six albums and the band is apparently still active.

V/A - A Manchester Collection 1979

Somehow I'm not really waking up today and the long working week has fucked me off, despite the holiday, but I also want to make a first post on this sunny Sunday before I have to take care of the stupid obligations as a tenant. This nice compilation shows bands of the Manchester Musicians Collective and was released via Object Music and is an early audio document of the emerging underground scene in this city. A short intro from the BandOnTheWall site which describes those early days in detail: "When the idea of a Manchester Musicians Collective first emerged, it was expected that the participants would be from the exploratory end of the music spectrum, free improvisers perhaps and committed experimentalists, possibly mixing music with performance art. This expectation was based on the involvement with other collectives of the two original protagonists, music graduates Trevor Wishart and Dick Witts (Trevor in York, Dick in London). But soon after the Collective got going in April 1977 it was obvious that Manchester’s version would be very different: much more Rock’N’Roll." Well, infected by this spirit, in addition to the loud, horrible Punk music that emerged at the end of the seventies, numerous bands were formed and left us unforgettable moments with their tuneful sounds. A refreshing record, that still pushes me in a good mood!
