E.A.T.E.R. - Doomsday Troops EP 1983

Ernst And The Edsholm Rebels – E.A.T.E.R. were formed in the summer of 1982 in Grums/Kil, Värmland, Sweden by Mikael “Gröten” Karlsson (guit/vox), Anders Brännström (bass), Peter “Pelle” Forsman (drums) and Hans “Hasse” Dahlgren (vox). and this first line-up of E.A.T.E.R. recorded Chaos Cassette vol.1 which was realesed in the fall of 1982. A number of gigs were played by this first line-up, among them the chaotic and by media well documented gig at Segmons Folkets hus in february of 1983. By the release of the bands debut EP Doomsday Troops (Ernst Records) Hasse was replaced by Mikael “Micke” Larsson as the leadsinger. Micke had earlier played in Psykjouren together with infamous and by now nationwidely known Buddha. Doomsday Troops EP was recorded and produced In KAAS by the band & Micke Blomqvist, and released in the summer of 1983. The record was sold all over the world, and E.A.T.E.R. recived recognition from people like Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys and Pushead, the artist that made Metallicas and the Misfits cartoons. With the new line-up and a sucessfull record-realese the band went on the road and toured Sweden. A review: "Not to be confused with the '77 U.K. punk band Eater, this Swedish group (Ernst And The Edsholm Rebels) floor down on the acceleration and rapidly hit fast, lightning doses of 1000-m.p.h. thrash mayhem. An outrageous display of burning speed and mind-boggling turbulence, combined with chaotic chops of lyrical expression. Don't be fooled by the hilarious intro to the title cut--this EP hauls its load fast and furious in the new Swedish tradition." - Pushead (from Maximum Rock'n'Roll #13, April/May 1984) - The band is still active and I recommend this five piece of classic swedish hardcore tunes and the compilations Really Fast #1 and Killed By Hardcore #2.

V/A - The Label SoFar! 1979

This record is a request of mine and I'm glad I can listen now to it. Released by 'The Label' with bands that were there under contract and bring some good records in the grey world. A fine mix of nice songs and when you search for the solo records you realize that these things are rare and expensive, logically after 35 years. Fuck long drivel, so it's slowly time for the Chameleons concert here and now at 20:00 in Nachtleben and I cannot tell you how much I'm look forward for this damn cool gig....hhuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!! and tomorrow no work because it's Feiertag!!! - Have a nice evening :)

E.A.T.E.R. - System Failure... Abort And Retry 2010

The word for Monday comes today from Distortion Records with this superb compilation by E.A.T.E.R. (Ernst And The Edsholm Rebels). Originally formed 1982 in Grums, they released four EPs and the legendary split tape together with InchargeEighteen decent hardcore smasher from the Eighties (including the EP, the split tape & the Really Fast compi goodies). In the mid 80's Ernst & the Rebels dissolved after tremendous turbulence but reunited 1985 with new members, Snake (bass) and Jerker (drums). Some gigs were made with this setting. In 1986, the band was reunited once again with Pelle back on the drums, when they, among other things, did a European Tour and in 1989 they split up finally. - They reunited in spring 2010 again with new members and played at Punk Illegal, their first gig in twenty-four years. During the summer more gigs followed and in September they recorded their second EP If Nothing's Right...Go Left! with five newly written songs, released in 500 copies with a deluxe folding cover and splatter-colored vinyl. In October came this little fucker on vinyl in a limited edition of 300 copies in transparent vinyl, 700 in black. More touring through the States (2011) & Japan (2013). A fourth 7Inch Projectiles For The People came in 2015 with five more songs on Ernst Records. In January 2017 EATER decides to close down all operations after two years of inactivity. And now.... enjoy loud, shrill, upbeat melodies.

V/A - Punk Rock/New Wave '77 1978

I hope you have a pleasant Easter days and time for good music. Today a obscure release with mostly bands from the UK and on this compilation, which came out in Portugal via Pirate Dream Records in an edition of 400 copies, are only classics that saw the light of day as 7Inch at the end of the 70s. I bought the slab on my Antarctic vacation thirty years ago from a penguin near the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Stationafter long haggling, for a few dollars. You can surely imagine how amazed I was when I found such a rare record, nowadays only available at high prices, in this region and of course didn't hesitate for long. Well, sometimes I'm lucky too and today I present you the little anecdote and I'm sure you will like the stuff as well. Even though we exchanged addresses, I never met the penguin again, but it will stay in my memory forever. So friends, enjoy the good ole sound that still towers over many current records and I know that won't change.

THE NIPS - Only The End Of The Beginning 1980

The Nips (better known as The Nipple Erectors) were an English punk band formed in London in 1976 by female punk artist Shanne Bradley and are notable as having been Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan's first musical group. Initially consisting of vocalist/songwriter Shane MacGowan (known at the time as 'Shane O'Hooligan'), bassist/songwriter/original punk artist Shanne Bradley, guitarist/artist Roger Towndrow  and drummer Arcane Vendetta; The Nipple Erectors performed their first gig at The Roxy Club Covent Garden. London in 1977. The band later released four singles and there was one bootleg live album between 1978 and 1981. Inspired by The Stooges, The Nipple Erectors incorporated elements of rockabilly and '60s garage rock into their music.

Following the release of their first single, King Of The Bop, in June 1978 on Soho Records, the band renamed themselves The Nips and released the garage punk song "All The Time in the World"/"Private Eye" with Phil Rowland of Eater on drums. By May 1979, the band's line up had changed to include Gavin "Fritz" Douglas, on guitar. The Power pop anthem, Gabrielle was released in November 1979, first on Soho Records, and then reissued on Chiswick Records. with John ("Grinny") Grinton (ex Skrewdriver) on drums. By the time of its release, Grinny had been replaced by Roger Travis Williams. Gavin Douglas' guitar playing on this record marked a change in the band's sound to a more melodic style. A live album, Only the End of the Beginning was released on Soho Records in 1980, from a recording made whilst on tour with the Purple Hearts. Two other live bootlegs have recently appeared, Live @ The 101 Club and Live @ the Hope & Anchor both recorded in late 1979.

In 1980, the Nips recorded a demo for Polydor Records at their studio in Bond Street. It was produced by Paul Weller. There were four songs recorded for this session, including "Happy Song" "Nobody To Love", "Ghost Town" and "Love To Make You Cry". The Line up for this recording was, Shane MacGowan-vocals, Shanne Bradley-bass, Gavin Douglas-guitar and Mark Harrison (ex Bernie Tormé)-drums. "Happy Song"/"Nobody To Love" was released as a single in October 1981, on Test Pressing Records. The Nips announced to the press that they were quitting after a last gig @ London's Covent Garden Rock Garden on 10 March 1980. MacGowan and Bradley did reform the band later that year, albeit briefly. The line up included James Fearnley on guitar and Jon Moss on drums. This line up played a final gig at London's Music Machine with The Jam in December 1980. In 1981 Jon Moss joined up with Boy George to form Culture Club. During 1981, Bradley took the band in another direction away from the traditional rock band format to incorporate Greek, Cretan and Irish Roots/Folk music. The popular Irish folk and America folk song "Poor Paddy Works on the Railway" had previously formed part of their early live set with Guitarist Roger Towndrow. This line up included Macgowan and Bradley plus John Hasler (ex Madness) on standup snare drum and Scots/Irish Folk Fiddler David Rattray. Later that year Bradley decided to take a break from music. Shane Macgowan and John Hasler went on to play in Pogue Mahone, later shortened to The Pogues. In 1984 Shanne Bradley co-founded The Men They Couldn't Hang to play "The Alternative Country and Western Festival" on March 1984 @ The Electric Ballroom in Camden. (source: wiki)

Burning Ambition: The History of Punk, attempts to be a definitive overview of the British (except DK) wave/punk scene in the late 70s/early 80s and while it falls short of its goals, it's nevertheless an admirable effort. V/A - Bored Teenagers Vol.9 2016

And exactly what I described earlier applies to the following compilation; emotional authentic music by bands that perfectly reflect the zeitgeist and with their attitude towards life bought a few instruments and founded a band to express their emotions, some made it to a single and that was it. The baby is called Bored Teenagers and this is the Volume 9 in this highly collectable series that has done for Punk what the Pebbles series did for the obscure gems from the 60s. We have unearthed another batch of Punkrock Gems! This time only five bands but they had so many great tracks we couldn’t leave any off.

Info: First off is a band called the Crabs that most people are aware of as they appeared on the decent Farewell To The Roxy compilation back in 1978 with their ultra catchy track Lullabies Lie. Sadly no further recordings were released as the band folded in 1978 and became the backing band for Max Splodge but little did we know, the band did record four studio tracks for the highly collectable Lightning label and were scheduled for a release in March 1978. One thing led to another and the band never signed the contract and the tracks were shelved. Rough cassette copies circulated over the years but Tony the singer still had the master tape. This band should of made it and is criminal they are not up there with the likes of some of the bigger bands!

The second band to feature is FU-2 from Southend-On-Sea. Their roots can be traced back to late ’77. After years and years of trying to track this band down after seeing some Youtube footage, we hit lucky and found the singer. He had moved so many times and to our astonishment, he still had in his possession the original five trackmaster tape. The really interesting thing about these tracks is that all the recordings feature a certain lady who was made famous by appearing in the Sex Pistols film The Great Rock'N'Roll Swindle, Yes…. Helen Of Troy. Her vocals are so unique and some might say out of tune but blend perfectly with the opposing vocals of Terry Piper. All five tracks can be heard here! Be warned!!!! These tracks are catchy and you will be singing them all day! Once again, three out of these five tracks have never been heard before!

Next up is a band from Caterham in Surrey called Nuffin’ who were mates with The Damned & Johnny Moped. Their claim to fame so to speak of is that they had Roger Bullen (aka Dee Generate) as their drummer before being head hunted by Eater. Things were looking good for Nuffin’ as in November 1976 London Weekend Television broadcast a documentary by Janet Street Porter on a new youth cult called punk rock that was sweeping the nation. You can hear one of their tracks being played in that program. Here we have all four of their studio tracks that have never been heard before and are direct off the original reel to reel master tape.

The next band are Norwich’s first Punk band the Toads. These tracks that are featured are the essence of Punk, no messing about, straight in with 1234.. Bang! Short and sweet! After only a year or so theywere gone but the nucleus of the band re-appearing as Silent Noise. The last band are the Coils from out of Morpeth in Northumberland of all places… Once again, no  messing about, 1234 and singing about what was happening around them! Just take a listen to Fascist and Smash The Front! - Once again, a fucking ass kick on vinyl!

Enough for today, I'm tired and drunk, I only chilling now and I'm hungry...
