THE SQUIRT - Men And Their Masters 1985

The only album by this fantastic combo was released via Weird System and the four were inspired by the sound of such great bands as the Dead Kennedys, D.O.A., Black Flag, etc.... the Squirt founded at the beginning of the Eighties in Zurich and consisted of Marc (vocals/guitars), Gertjan (bass/vocals), Ueli (drums/guitars/vocals) and their aim was to become the fastest and toughest Swiss band. They recorded a demotape in 1983 with fourteen Songs and somehow it fell into the hands of the Hamburgers and they were immediately enthusiastic and decided to make an album with them, and so Men & Their Masters was recorded, followed by a Germany tour. In terms of sound, the Squirt is fast and precise, a healthy portion of Hardcore that rarely comes from the Alpine country, and the potential is strong and the level is very high, they absolutely don't have to hide behind the aforementioned bands, the four can inspire with thier record. A real smasher!

EDDIE & THE SUBTITLES - Skeletons In The Closet 1981

At the moment I'm a bit busy with other things, so I hardly find time for wdthtc, but I'm trying and today I come to an interesting record that not only offer Punkrock, the grande debut by Eddie & The Subtitles from Orange County which came via their own label No Label Records and is nowadays a rare classic. The band consisted of Eddie (vocals), Max (guitars), Chaz (bass), Brent (drums) and this is a fantastic concoction of early OC sound with bloody New Wave interludes. They release their first vinyl Fuck You Eddie! in 1980 with two great songs which was already a strong exclamation mark and brought live shows with the Circle Jerks, Black Flag and many other heroes of the period. So they created a small fan base around them and their second and last album Dead Drunks Don't Dance finally followed in 1983.

STRETCH MARKS - What D'Ya See 1984

Well, let's move back to Canada and visit Winnipeg. There we meet the Stretch Marks and after the great Who's In Charge EP 1983 they delivered a year later their only album via their own label Headbutt Records. First, a suitable review: "While some of the ferocity and offbeat humor of their debut EP is absent here, Winnipeg’s STRETCH MARKS still manage to come out with a creditable album. Breakneck thrashers like 'Turnbuckle Stomp' and the title track are the standouts among these thirteen mid- to fast-speed punkers, though the cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Bad Moon [Rising]” also lives up to all expectations." (Steve Spinali, MRR #17 • September 1984)

Stretch Marks were an unyielding quartet of road warriors who waved the flag for western Canadian hardcore like few others. Because singer Dave McCombe (a.k.a. Dik Savage), Bill Jackson (guitars), Kelly Jackson (drums) and bassist Mark Langtry (a.k.a. Sikby, a.k.a. Mark Stretchmark) were more organized than most other bands, they formed their own record label Headbutt Records and released a six-song EP called Who's In Charge in 1983, followed by the thirteen song album What D’Ya See in 1984. They even had a booted, circle-dancing cartoon alligator as a mascot! The Who and What records gave the band a reason to tour to all points west and south and so they did, relentlessly and purposefully, playing any venue that would have them, from garages for less than a dozen people to Southern California auditoriums for thousands. These two recordings are thus snapshots of a specific time and place, and this Sounds Escaping collection, which features all nineteen tracks from those releases, plus two songs released on compilation albums and one previously unreleased cut, is an essential document of an age.

It’s also a very real encapsulation of the Stretchies’ evolution as both writers and players. The songs from Who’s In Charge are short, sharp bursts of rage, with nihilistic lyrics that howl at the insanity of Cold War politics (this was the Reagan era, remember), the possibility of nuclear holocaust (Barren Cities) and the posing of inauthentic scenesters (Professional Punks). The band also had a sense of humour that was an important part of their live act and which surfaced on Dogs World.

What D’Ya See captures Stretch Marks at their best. They were a taut, well-oiled unit by 1984 and left audiences breathless with the sheer pace and brutal force of their sonic attack. Songs such as 'Time In Black' and 'Deaducated' were guaranteed to fill any pit, while other cuts, such as 'Another Tragedy', 'Lookin’ For Danger' and the fabulous 'Preacher', featured arrangements and tempos that hinted at new directions. The rousing 'Turnbuckle Stomp', a hilarious tune about AWA wrestling, quickly became a fan favourite wherever it was played.

The Who & What collection comes with an exhaustive, full-colour booklet (this one’s twenty-four pages) featuring a band history by Chris Walter and a funny piece by Matt Vinet, who managed the Stretchies from 1981 to 1985. ZEB & THE FAST ONES - Raggare Beware + 1 EP 1983

One more highlight from Sweden today with Zeb & The Fast Ones from Linköping and they released two incredible 7Inches in the early Eighties on Eugen Records. And Ola tells you a bit about the band that is captured on B-Sound which I of course reproduce here for you lazy bitches: "This is the story about Zeb & The Fast Ones as I can remember it. All I will tell has hopefully happened and it is in fairly right order as I remember it. You should remember that it was over seventeen years since Zeb and the fast ones were active, so to you who think you can the history better I hope you will overlook. Spring 1983, Zeb were established by Ola (vocals), Lärm (guitars), Martin (bass) and Ove (drums). All members had known each other since nine-year compulsory school. With just a pocketful of own songs and some cover we made our live entrance the summer 83 on an outdoor event in Valla. With about the same number of tunes the band did enter Bosses studio the fall 83 to record what became our first single Raggare Beware. After this a number of plays at home ground. Especially was a play at Kvinnebygården when we entered the stage without guitarist, not the worlds most successful concert but it was appreciated by all who at this time liked experimental music. Zeb & The Fast Ones did also manage the trick to go outside Linköping.

Sometime the winter 83/84 the way was to Stockholm and the famous stage Tre Backar. We were the last band on stage this evening and the arranger cut the power just after a pair of tunes, not exactly what we had expected. A play same winter in Jönköping resulted that we got the opportunity to be warm-up band to Peter and the test tube babies. 6. June 1984 we entered the stage in Jönköping’s cultural art center accordingly for the biggest audience we ever should meet. If we had been some older and more experienced we should certainly solve this mission better, but as I remembered the play (or the little I remember) we mangle as possessed by a devil and then the result was accordingly. Well, 1984 was a delicious time and to Jönköping many of that times celebrities as Black Flag, G.B.H, Adicts and Johnny Thunders. It was also at that time the second Zeb single was recorded. If it was at the spring or the autumn I cannot say. Worth to be mentioned about the second recording was that Bosse had become tired of our huge consumption of medium-strong beer and gave us the advice to drink strong spirits then it should result in a lower amount of empty bottles.

On autumn 1984 also a second guitarist was recruited named Finken and the time with him was however very short. The tune writing accelerated autumn 84 but the writing of lyrics didn’t. At a concert on Arbis with its fine old traditions (as warm-up for the Vibrators) certainly 3-4 tunes lacked a real text. This caused me and also Martin change our roles. Thus I started to play bass and Martin began to sing. It showed to not work either and the consequence was that Martin left the band in spring '85. Myself I throw in the towel after an outdoor concert in Trädgårdsföreningen the summer 1985.

Some time a wise man said probably: "If you want to quarrel with your mates you should establish a punk band". Exactly this happened Zeb & The Fast Ones. The personal chemistry might not have been the best from the beginning and the fact that all members had different opinion on how seriously you should look at things did not make the situation better. Anyway we were a Punk band in the crowd, not better than or worse than anybody else and the memory still lives as a batch of wear singles as from time to time change owner on some vinyl fair. We had our moments and I still remember this period with happiness."

THE MIDDLE CLASS - Out Of Vogue [The Early Material] 2008

The Middle Class were an American four piece established 1976 in Santa Ana/California and consisted of Jeff (vocals), Mike (guitar), Mike P. (bass), Bruce (drums). Debate continues to this day as to whether Middle Class were the first Hardcore combo or if Black Flag or Bad Brains were. It is unlikely that Bad Brains were aware of Middle Class, however, as they were unknown outside of California. Their sound evolved from being a blistering, shouted, arty version of punk which would be extremely influential to the hardcore sound that would emerge in the years following their first release, the 1978 Out Of Vogue 7Inch. This record featured the title track along with three other songs. After this they released the Scavenged Luxury 7'' in 1980 which retained the assault of the first record while introducing the influence of UK bands Gang Of Four and Joy Division. 1982 saw the release of their first full length album, the dark Homeland. Their first seven inches were rereleased on the compilation album "Blueprint For Joy" along with several live tracks and songs they contributed to the Tooth & Nail compilation.

In the mid-1980s Mike & Bruce Atta briefly formed a soul/dance band with former The Bags vocalist Alice Bag called the Cambridge Apostles. Bassist Mike Patton went on to produce the Adolescents' first album, guitarist Mike Atta now owns and operates a vintage furniture shop in Fullerton, California called "Out Of Vogue", and drummer Bruce Atta went on to UCLA to major in Philosophy and now teaches Philosophy at Cal State University at Los Angeles. And now enjoy this fifteen track collection (Frontier Records) with their two EPs, compi tracks & rare demos.

V/A - Blood On The ROQ! 1983

Before I dedicate myself further ripping vinyl, a short sign of life from my heated home and that it doesn't get frostier is proven by the track and band list of the following brilliant compilation by Quiet Records. Everyone should have heard one or two songs or at least you should have one record in your closet, if not... change it immediately, because almost the Crème de la Crème is waiting here, important and essential American bands and without them, Punk would be a bit poorer, in my opinion. With all its aggression and rawness captures this slab the spirit of the early wild days perfect and stands out with its quality and represents a pure gem for every record collector who loves the early sound of the west coast. Very strong piece of vinyl, with a correspondingly short playing time. Cheers!

THE COSMETICS - s/t 10'' + Demo 1979 [2019]

The Cosmetics were a five piece from San Francisco, founded in 1979 by Terri (vocals), Jimmy (vocals/guitar), Cliff (guitar), David (bass) & Jane (drums) and they began to start playing alot of gigs in the Bay Area, mostly as opener for well-known like Black Flag or Agent Orange (which I would have liked to experience). In 1980 they released their only record via Doolang Records with five high energy harsh tracks for your sensitive ears. This classic was reissued with their 1979 Demo recordings, which didn't make it onto the record, by PukeNVomit Records, 100 copies in blue, 400 in black vinyl. Their music shine with the excellent two part female-male vocal harmony & interchanges and has a real hit with "Twinkie Madness", who has a guest appearance on the fantastic Killed By Death #8½ compilation, one of their rare compi invitations. Great Stuff!!

DANGEROUS RHYTHM - s/t LP 1981

Today and tomorrow the semi-finals and I can hardly wait until it starts. Four teams, each of which I think has the quality & power for the title, but only two make it to the final, we'll see who achieves it. In any case, my tip is clear if you have paid attention. But let's change the continent for a moment and take a detour to Central America and visit Mexico City and meet Dangerous Rhythm and you heard right, Mexico isn't much known for numerous punk bands, but they exist there too. D.R. was formed in Mexico, August 1978 by Cuban singer Porfirio "Piro" Pendas, Marcelo (guitar), Johnny (bass) & Rip Sick (drums), and can claim to be one of the first punk bands in the country. Piro, the band's vocalist, immersed himself in the whole Los Angeles scene, and was in contact with the Chicano side of the city through Tito Larriva from The Plugz and other bands from the area like Circle Jerks, Fear, and Black Flag. The impact of punk classics like the Sex Pistols, The Clash, or the Ramones obviously had a big influence on their sound. Dangerous Rhythm never forgot their family tree, absorbing large doses of unconventional rock like the New York Dolls, The Stooges, and Lou Reed. All these elements helped the band forge their own style and so they starting with songs sung mostly in English and vibrant, direct melodies and in 1979 the time had come and the band released their first EP No No No via Orfeon with three fantastic killers. After laying the foundations of the non-existent punk scene and recording their first eponymous debut album in 1981. It was released by Hip 70, a label run by Armando Blanco, who owned the club of the same name, which was the focal point of the Mexican scene in the '80s. The end result was mind-blowing and shows a band with nerve that played new wave with a punk rhythm. Their debut was reissued by a Spanish label called Beat Generation on 180-gram vinyl and features replica cover art and inserts plus a liner notes written by Piro in an edition of 500 copies. Solid Stuff!

TH' INBRED - A Family Affair 1986

Puuhhhhh, somehow I'm not coming vertical today and my muse seems to be drunk from yesterday. Well, only one effective means help: cold beer + fast music; the medicine today is: Th' Inbred, a Punk/Hardcore band from Morgantown/West Virginia. Formed in 1984 by @rt (vocals), Robert (guitars), Duff (bass), Biff 3 (drums) and they released one EP and two albums between 1985 and 1988 and toured the US three times. A politically pointed punk act influenced by celebrities of the punk scene of that time (Dead Kennedys, Minutemen, Crass and Black Flag), their thrashy attack morphed into jazz-influenced hardcore by the end. As you can see, this is the artwork of the German pressing on Bonzen Records which includes the "Reproduction" EP as bonus, unfortunately not parat here. Anyway, the twelve songs are very powerful and impressive and the original idea was to form punk band that incorporated a banjo into the band. Subject matter of the songs included many looking critically at the punk scenes they were (or had been) a part of or linked to. There was an influence from situationism and anarchism. They disbanded in 1988 and singer Robert died sadly on February 8, 2020Nothing more today, important the football Champions-League final in about four hours.

BLACK FLAG - Everything Went Black 1982

Beware!!!! Now a damn classic... masterpiece... eleventh bid... multiple orgasms... passionate vibrations!!! Black Flag was one of America's first hardcore punk bands. They emerged from Southern California to gain international prominence, touring enough to become a major attraction in virtually every city where a scene existed and undoubtedly inspiring others to get in the game. Via the band's SST label, Black Flag played an essential role in the development and popularization of American punk. Through countless revolving door personnel changes — which spawned numerous spin-off bands along the way — Black Flag persevered until 1986, finally dissolving after locating and exploring the zone where punk and heavy metal intersect and overlap. Everything Went Black is an awesome compilation and was released 1982 through SST Records and comprises early unreleased recordings 1978-1981 before Henry Rollins became the band's vocalist in 1981, and was initially released without the group's name on its cover, due to their lawsuit with MCA/Unicorn. Instead, the names of the group members were listed on the first release. Three singer can we enjoy; Keith Morris/Ron Reyes/Dez Cadena and I would say; by far the best time for the Californians & I would like to add a small extract from a brilliant review"As if these recordings needed any more mythos associated with them! Although Nervous Breakdown would set the underground punk scene on fire, and wile Keith Morris’ sardonic, cagey delivery would go on to impress and inform thousands of future punk rockers, there was a scant four Black Flag tracks to his name prioer to Black. As Black Flag seemed to operate in cycles, the same could be said of Ron Reyes as well as Dez Cadena. Little did fans know that for each vocalist, there was nearly a full album’s worth of material- the same material mind you, but unreleased material none the less. Except it wasn’t quite the same material for each singer. Granted, almost all these songs had been released previously and many of the songs crop up two or three times on this release. But, Black was a boon in that it showed how each singer brought his own unique perspective to this material. This showed both the strength of the individual vocalists as well as the core material." Nothing to add I think. I personally prefer the Johnny "Bob" Goldstein era and you guess why, I have the Aggressive Rockproduktionen release and this vinyl-rip comes in refreshing 320k/Bit. Let's Pogo!

THE FIX - Jan's Rooms EP 1982

A quick post for the weekend: The Fix with their second and final 7Inch on Touch and Go Records with four goodies. The band was formed in March 1980 in Lansing, Michigan by Steve (vocals), Craig (guitar), Mike (bass) and Jeff (drums). They played on several prominent bills with many other notable punk bands before breaking up in early 1982. A review: The Fix have finally returned from their successful tour of Texas, California (SF in particular) and the Northwest. They played the much publicised Eastern Front in Fresno, and did some recording at Black Flag's studio with Spot. I've heard the tape and the improvement in sound over their single has to be heard to be believed. It's frightening that they should sound so good. They celebrated their return with an amazing gig at Rick's American Cafe in East Lansing. Not the best surroundings (tiny, carpetted dance floor and a benignly mellow atmosphere) for their unsubtle brand of punk. Aggressive, uncompromising, violent--nobody does it better. An overpowering onslaught that literally rips the fixtures from the ceiling...the best in Michigan. I did get a bug up my ass about some self-appointed goons, taking it upon themselves to protect the band from the flailing throng on the danve flood. I trust The Fix had nothin' to do with it, cuz this will sure as shit cause bad blood among their fans if they did. Brawny assholes grabbing people & pushing 'em back into the mass of slamming bodies, appearing to take great pleasure in the ability to police the stage. Just an excuse to throw their weight around. Steve told them to stop and leave us alone, but no, they had to have more. One of 'em got his kicks from punching girls; challenge him to step outside and he runs, only to return to throw bottles froma speeding car. Am I fool to say I hope we won't encounter any more of this gestapo brutality at future Fix shows. We sure hell don't need it. (Dave Stimson, Discords, September 1981) - Sounds Good? .... Is Good!

THE KRIXHJÄLTERS - Guineapig Assasinator 1986

The Krixhjälters, later Omnitron, was formed in Stockholm in 1982 by Rasmus Ekman (guitar, vocals), Pontus Lindqvist (bass, vocals) and Stefan Gorini (drums, vocals), inspired by the American bands Black Flag and Dead Kennedys. The band name was created partly as a parody of the construction of certain dance band names. The band's debut album was recorded in 1984 but first released in 1986, on the record label Rosa Honung. Already in 1985, however, the songs Magic Mushrooms and The Guardian Of Society were released on the compilation Really Fast Vol.2 with current Swedish punk bands. During a period of the mid-1980s, the band were more or less inactive. Pontus Lindqvist and Pelle Ström then joined the band Aggressiv, where Pontus sang and Pelle played guitar. Shortly after the first MLP was recorded, in 1985, guitarist Pelle Ström also started in the band, Gorini quit, and Stefan Kälfors replaced drums. The group signed a contract with CBR Records and recorded another Mini-LP, Hjälter Skelter (1988). At Krixhjälter's early recordings, some songs are sung in Swedish, but from Hjälter Skelter and onwards all texts are performed in English. The full-length album Evilution was released in 1989 and the band also had the opportunity to record the Christmas single A Krixmas Carol (1989) under the original name. This record consists of a common song on one side and on the other side in front of the band members, their song, with text and music written by each, in exactly one minute each. In 1989 the band was also represented with the song He Speaks on the collection album The Swedish Stand, published by Sinderella.

POISEN IDEA - Official Bootleg EP 1991

Proper release by Vinyl Solution/American Leather Records and this four track EP is damn cool and I think most of you know this combo because they released a couple of awesome records. I take over the bio from discogs: Poison Idea was started in 1980 in Portland, Oregon, by vocalist Jerry A. (Lang). Within a year, the band had a solid line-up with drummer Dean Johnson, guitarist Tom Roberts (aka Pig Champion), and bassist Glen Estes. The band was motivated by the Germs and Black Flag, and took their musical cues from bands such as Discharge and SOA. Pushing the speed limits of contemporary punk rock, they played raw and angry hardcore the likes of which had rarely been heard before (or since). Their 1983 debut EP, Pick Your King, is a classic and arguably the best hardcore record ever released. Its subsequent followup, Record Collectors are Pretentious Assholes (featuring Pig Champion's substantial collection on the cover), saw Chris "Tense" replacing Glen on bass. Both were put out on the Fatal Erection label, run by Pig Champion and Malcom Conover from Eugene, Oregon. 

In 1986, Poison Idea released the aptly titled Kings Of Punk album on Pushead's Pusmort label. By this time, the band's sound had changed from manic, breakneck thrash, to a more driving, Motörhead-influenced attack - losing none of their intensity, anger, or nihilism. In the next few years, Poison Idea's lineup (mainly the rhythm section) changed several times. 1987's War All the Time was somewhat of a misstep - nowhere near as powerful as their previous output - although the two EPs released the next year both had good material. 

By 1989, Poison Idea seemed to pull it together; after trouble with record companies and distributors in the past, they started their own label, American Leather, and began by reissuing their 1982 demo. The band recorded the excellent Discontent 7" and also found their most stable lineup in years: Jerry A., Pig Champion, Myrtle Tickner, and Thee Slayer Hippie (although the second guitarist seemed to switch between "Mondo" and Aldine Strichnine). In 1990 they released the classic Feel The Darkness album, successfully combining (where so, so many others had failed) the best elements of hardcore and hard rock for a dark, powerful sound. In the next three years they put out several more records - two more full-lengths, a string of 7"s, and an LP collection of all covers. When Pig Champion decided to leave the band in 1993, Poison Idea called it quits. However, a few years later in 1996, the band briefly reformed and recorded a 7" for Taang!, who also reissued (again) most of their early catalog. An aborted tour in 1997 saw another breakup, but the band is currently back together again playing local shows, and has recently toured the US and Europe. 

Song facts: Tracks 1 and 2 recorded and mixed 5-6-89, both previously released as the 'Plastic Bomb/We Got The Beat' cassette single in 1989.  Tracks 3 and 4 recorded 6-15-90. Mixed 12-4-90.

DIE TOTEN HOSEN - Unter Falscher Flagge 1984

Under false flag is the second studio album by Die Toten Hosen, released via Totenkopf/Virgin Records, and even if they reap commercial success today and sound cleaner, their early records still are blessed Gassenhauer. Because of the cover, the disputes with EMI continued immediately after publication. In the picture, the band, dressed as pirates, poses on a ship in front of the Düsseldorf Rheinturm. At the bow of the ship a black flag is attached. In the first version she is painted with a graphic by Michael Roman. It shows a dog skeleton sitting in front of a gramophone. EMI interpreted this symbol as a denigration of their landmark His Master's Voice. The band was forbidden by the court to distribute this version of the cover, and the record was sold for the time being with almost completely blackened cover and a sticker "censored" provided. Some, distributed for promotion purposes plates but was a photo Campinos, as he kneels in front of a dog in front of a gramophone. With the later release as CD, a third version of the cover was created. The picture is similar to the first version, but the black flag carries a drawn bony eagle. The Persiflage on the German Federal Eagle is still a common emblem of the band together with the grinning skull. The new edition of the album for the 25th anniversary of the band in 2007 shows on the front again the original cover picture with a dog skeleton on the flag.

TMA - Beach Party 2000 1987

Final post for today and it's a band that was completely unknown to me until now and I have to say the record is a hammer. Powerful two-minute smasher in just thirty-three total and this is already their second plate on Jimboco Records, excites me completelyWell, a few words from discogs: TMA started out as a three piece in New Brunswick, NJ (Rutgers) in 1981 with Tom (Emanuele), Mike (Demko) and Al (Rosenblum). Lead vocalist Dave Oldfield joined shortly thereafter. The band's moniker either stood for the original band members names or Too Many Assholes, depending on the day of the week and who in the band you asked. Influenced by the Angry Samoans, Black Flag, Circle Jerks and a variety of 70′s punk bands, TMA went on to record What's for Dinner? two years later. During that time, the band played a lot of local gigs at such infamous venues as the Dirt Club, where they built a loyal following and eventually wound up on a live compilation the club released called Hardcore Takes Over (Live @ the Dirt Club). New Jersey had a good hardcore/punk scene in the early 80s with a lot of bands and places to play, besides the Dirt Club, there was the Court Tavern, Roxy, Patrick's and the Melody. TMA were often paired with bands like Detention and Send Help, and played some of their best gigs with the Circle Jerks, Anti-Nowhere League, Government Issue and the Joneses. They also did a few hardcore Sundays at CBGB’s, including a show with the Freeze. Tim Yohannon (R.I.P.) and the staff of Maximum Rock'N'Roll were fans of the band. What's for Dinner? was played a lot in the office and received exposure on Tim's radio show as well. Jello Biafra was also a fan. Nun, I think there is something for everyone with all three posts today and I have promoted you accordingly into the weekend, see ya!

V/A - Underground Hits 1 1982

Und da wir schon bei Samplern sind ist das Teil hier absolute Pflicht!! Die dritte compilation auf AGR Records ist eine zweigeteilte Scheibe, Side A mit deutschen Bands und ich kann wohl behaupten vier der besten hierzulande mit vielen exklusiven Stücken, Arseholes und Chaos Z sind der Hammer, während Side 2 ausschließlich Ami-Bands serviert. Leider liegt meiner Kopie kein Insert bei, GRRR... obwohl ich die in den 80zigern gekauft habe. Scheiß Spiel. Egal, die Scheibe gehört für mich zu den Klassikern und man kann über den Macher von AGR denken was man will, die Platten die er rausgehauen hat sind alle durchweg fantastisch. - First part of Underground Hits on AGR, brilliant song selection, first-class record, if you see this, a must buy! Volume 2 is a bit weaker in my opinion but has exclusive tracks from Spux and Canal Terror, get it!

ASBEST - Klaustrofobi EP 2005

Like their previous 7Inch "Nyt Blod" from 2003, Copenhagen's Asbest offers us with these record once again beautiful hardcore thrash punkies in the vein of Discharge or early Black Flag. The anger & passion sonicate the harsh sound and the gruff vocals round off this perfect mixture, if that’s your thing don't hesitate to grap this. Released via the great Danish label Kick N' Punch Records and this melodic goodie is not only for fans of K-town hardcore interesting, pick this up or get fucked - Cooool. D.R.I. - Live @ CBGB'S New York 1984

This brings back a lot of memories. In the early 80s I listen to a lot of Metal stuff because I was a Metaller with all my heart. I leave this style when I came in touch with American Hardcore bands like Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, Warfare (UK) etc.... so also with D.R.I. The Hardcore sound was an integral part in this scene and then more and more concerts took place I rather visited of course those gigs as Megadeth or Anthrax. 1986 then D.R.I. live in my city, together with Holy Moses (ARRGGHHH!) and this show changed my lifestyle completely. I will not say that they made me a punk because I've also heard some German punk bands, EA80, Slime, Daily Terror, OHL for example, but they were rarely present live as the ami bands. I would say my interest in metal was deleted this evening, First-class performance with pogo till the shack crashed, unforgotten. Who ever saw a D.R.I. gig can attest to this. A little info:

D.R.I. (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles) is a crossover thrash band from the United States that formed in Houston, in 1982. The band currently comprises founding members, vocalist Kurt Brecht and guitarist Spike Cassidy, as well as drummer Rob Rampy and bassist Harald Oimoen. D.R.I. never gained a mainstream audience, but the integration of their hardcore punk roots with thrash metal influences was a stylistic catalyst for their contemporaries - most notably Suicidal Tendencies, Corrosion Of Conformity and Stormtroopers Of Death - alongside whom they are considered pioneers of what would later be called "crossover thrash." They have released seven original studio albums, the last of which was released in 1995. Since then, the band has continued touring and intermittently going on hiatus. In 2004, D.R.I. released a web-only demo track "Against Me", their first recording in a decade. For years, there has been talk of an eighth D.R.I. album, which has yet to materialize.

The first three albums are all terrific and as '4 Of A Kind' came out the music was too monotonous to me and I lost interest. I love more the rapid, wild aggressive sound and here on this CD are all their hits. Forty songs in Thirty-Nine minutes. A Must Listen!!

DESCENDENTS - I Don't Want To Grow Up 1985

The Descendents are an American punk rock band from Hermosa Beach, California and were formed in 1978 by guitarist Frank Navetta, bassist Tony Lombardo and drummer Bill Stevenson. ''A superb second album and the first thing that hits you is it's schizophrenic character, side one presents more of their catchy garage punk with satirical and scatological themes (some of which are overtly sexist), whereas side two highlights a newer sound that combines irresistible pop or countrified melodies, heavy punk guitars and reflective lyrics. I actually prefer the latter (especially "Silly Girl" and "Good Good Things"), which seem to result from Bill Stevenson's (ex-BLACK FLAG) influence.'' - Jeff Bale, Maximum Rocknroll #29, October 1985.
