V/A - Pusmort View 1991

That the Japanese love extreme rough fast hardcore prove the numerous bands whose plates are hard to get in Europe, I guess the other way around it is the same. So it is not surprising that a Japanese label, Toy's Factory, got down to work and focused on Pusmort Records, Pushead's label, and put out this great compilation with bands of it. I had numerous records because this sound hit exactly my taste, today I have only one left. Annoys me really, but the times were different and I had to sell a lot because I needed money. Well, in the end it doesn't matter, I'm sure they're in good hands. Enough blah blah, be ready for the unattainable hardcore blasts of the 80's.

ATTITUDE - No Sleep Through The 80s 1986-1988

A long weekend's coming and we start with one post because I'm not in FFM: Attitude is a Punk/Thrash/Crossover band from Oakland California that was founded in 1984 and went till 1995. Then reforming again in 2007 and are still active to this day. They released their debut and arguably their best know album 'American Paranoia' on Pusmort Records (Pusmort was a label done by the famous artist Pushead, lead singer of Septic Death) as Attitude Adjustment and in the early 80's they shortly went into the studio to record the Dead Serious Demo in 1985 and finally releasing the debut record and this fucker is a classic Hardcore one and for me the best AA release. In the middle of 1986 they changed their name into Attitude and released two pretty 12Inches and an EP, all togehter here and the music goes more into a thrash metal direction which really turns me on. That's all my true followers, have a great weekend!

POISEN IDEA - Kings Of Punk 1986

If you don't have a Christmas present for your loved ones yet, I suggest the following slab, and the recipients will bless you, because we're not talking about a 08/15 record, NO!, it's the furious debut album by Poisen Idea, a four piece from Portland formed 1980, and this masterpiece were recorded by Jerry A (vocals), Tom (guitars), Tense (bass), Dean (drums) and came via Pusmort among the chosen ones. You you can find a little detailed info about the band at the Offical Bootleg post a few years earlier. Kings Of Punk has eleven cool goodies which are all brilliant because the variety is outstanding, some are very rhythmic, some straight out thrashy hardcore and every now and then you get the rock-out guitar indulgence. Dynamic and with lots of power, this album wipes the fog out of your eyes and you can finally poop sensibly again, guaranteedAnd now I go to buy some beer, Cheers!

SEPTIC DEATH - Crossed Out Twice 2013

Another highlight of my collection is this superb following compilation of my favorite hardcore combo: Septic Death I don't know why I have them post earlier, it must be this double album that I recently bought on a small record fair for little money. The reason why I like them is their aggressive and hard sound, the drums are like a thunderstorm, screeching guitars, loud fat bass, and Pusheads exceptional, sick voice heats the whole right. Whenever I hear it I get positively. Since I bought the 'Attention' record which came out via Pusmort in the mid 80s Richy and I were immediately thrilled. I can remember they're also popular in the metal scene these days. Well, this unofficial release is a great Fanclub edition, fantastic fold out sleeve sleeve, includes lyrics, artwork, fliers and fotos. The double vinyl comes in two different vinyl colors. Handnumbered to 250 copies. Forty songs from the Need So Much Attention 12", Burial 7", Kichigai 7" and Theme From Ozobozo album and various comp tracks..... all within. Overall very lovingly decorated and a real Fan Edition. Have fun with it!

CHRIST ON PARADE - Sounds Of Nature 1985

Last grenade for today and what a blast. I remember having this record, but it too has disappeared, I believe lent and never seen again, I wasn't very careful with my records that time (I realize again). Well, afterwards you know it always better. A bit info from wiki: Christ On Parade was a mid-late 1980s San Francisco East Bay political hardcore punk band, formed in 1985 by ex-members of Teenage Warning and peace punks Treason. Their debut, Sounds Of Nature was issued on Pusmort Records. The group featured vocalist Barrie Evans, guitarists Mike Scott and Noah Landis, bassist Malcolm Sherwood, and drummer Todd Kramer. Some members lived in the East Bay's legendary New Method Warehouse and they played shows with the Subhumans, Agnostic Front, Circle Jerks and Conflict. Christ On Parade headlined the first-ever show at Berkeley's long-running 924 Gilman venue. They were an explicitly political band and their song America The Myth questioned the United States' foreign policy at the time, while they dedicated Landlord Song to the owner of the New Method Warehouse. With three of the members deep into skateboarding, their music was included on a compilation cassette issued by Thrasher magazine, "Thrasher Skate Rock Vol. 3". Mike Scott left the band in 1986 and was replaced by guitarist Doug Kearney, and in late 1987 bassist Ron Nichols replaced the departing Sherwood. The group officially disbanded in 1989 after touring Europe. Landis would later form Blister (also with Kearney) before joining Neurosis in the mid 1990s. Evans formed psychobilly group the Hellbillys. Mike Scott joined Arkansas ex-pats Econochrist. Nichols formed Grinch after Christ On Parade broke up.

In 2008 the original line-up of Christ On Parade reunited for a tour of Europe and the west coast of the U.S., returning to play two nights at 924 Gilman Street, the famous punk club in Berkeley, CA where the band headlined the very first show December 31st, 1986. 2009 saw the band tour Japan and they toured the western U.S., most likely their final tour, in 2010.

Eleven songs on a high level, nothing to moan... awesome!

FINAL CONFLICT - Ashes To Ashes 1987

Wild spirit and rage, these two characteristics are distinctive for the furious sound of Final Conflict, a southern California Hardcore combo which were founded 1985 by Ron (vocals), Jeff (guitars), Warren (bass), Dave (drums) and their first demo War?War?War? is considered an important artifact and they produced a cassette containing the kind of blazing riffs and politically-charged lyrics many punks thought were over and done after being abandoned by the previous, spiky-haired generation. No wonder, a certain gentleman named Pushead wanted the band for his little label and so it happened that in 1987 their crushing debut Ashes To Ashes was released on PusmortTheir perseverance and dedicated fan base helped spark a Los Angeles and Orange County Punkrock revival of sorts during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Unfortunately it is one of the records that are no longer in my closet and so you have to use this rip, but I guarantee unlimited listening pleasure. The band has released two more albums and as far as I know are still on the road.

POISEN IDEA - Official Bootleg EP 1991

Proper release by Vinyl Solution/American Leather Records and this four track EP is damn cool and I think most of you know this combo because they released a couple of awesome records. I take over the bio from discogs: Poison Idea was started in 1980 in Portland, Oregon, by vocalist Jerry A. (Lang). Within a year, the band had a solid line-up with drummer Dean Johnson, guitarist Tom Roberts (aka Pig Champion), and bassist Glen Estes. The band was motivated by the Germs and Black Flag, and took their musical cues from bands such as Discharge and SOA. Pushing the speed limits of contemporary punk rock, they played raw and angry hardcore the likes of which had rarely been heard before (or since). Their 1983 debut EP, Pick Your King, is a classic and arguably the best hardcore record ever released. Its subsequent followup, Record Collectors are Pretentious Assholes (featuring Pig Champion's substantial collection on the cover), saw Chris "Tense" replacing Glen on bass. Both were put out on the Fatal Erection label, run by Pig Champion and Malcom Conover from Eugene, Oregon.

In 1986, Poison Idea released the aptly titled Kings Of Punk album on Pushead's Pusmort label. By this time, the band's sound had changed from manic, breakneck thrash, to a more driving, Motörhead-influenced attack - losing none of their intensity, anger, or nihilism. In the next few years, Poison Idea's lineup (mainly the rhythm section) changed several times. 1987's War All the Time was somewhat of a misstep - nowhere near as powerful as their previous output - although the two EPs released the next year both had good material.

By 1989, Poison Idea seemed to pull it together; after trouble with record companies and distributors in the past, they started their own label, American Leather, and began by reissuing their 1982 demo. The band recorded the excellent Discontent 7" and also found their most stable lineup in years: Jerry A., Pig Champion, Myrtle Tickner, and Thee Slayer Hippie (although the second guitarist seemed to switch between "Mondo" and Aldine Strichnine). In 1990 they released the classic Feel The Darkness album, successfully combining (where so, so many others had failed) the best elements of hardcore and hard rock for a dark, powerful sound. In the next three years they put out several more records - two more full-lengths, a string of 7"s, and an LP collection of all covers. When Pig Champion decided to leave the band in 1993, Poison Idea called it quits. However, a few years later in 1996, the band briefly reformed and recorded a 7" for Taang!, who also reissued (again) most of their early catalog. An aborted tour in 1997 saw another breakup, but the band is currently back together again playing local shows, and has recently toured the US and Europe.

Song facts: Tracks 1 and 2 recorded and mixed 5-6-89, both previously released as the 'Plastic Bomb/We Got The Beat' cassette single in 1989.  Tracks 3 and 4 recorded 6-15-90. Mixed 12-4-90.

NEGATIVE GAIN - Back From The Dead 1986

Before I enjoy myself with soccer tonight this Killer debut album by Negative Gain from Toronto. A short Band History (by Grant Slavin): Negative Gain was founded in Toronto, Ontario by Peter Warner who wrote all of the lyrics and provided rehearsal space in his basement. Filling out the lineup was Grant C. Slavin on guitar, Steve Currie on bass, and Andrew Mosely on drums. All members were in their mid-teens at the time. Their influences included Minor Threat, Millions Of Dead Cops, the Misfits, and the Dead Kennedys, as well as local TO bands Direct Action and Sudden Impact. Negative Gain got their first break in '83 when we were asked by local Toronto promoter Jill Heath to open for Jodie Fosters Army at the city's legendary punk club The Turning Point. After the show Pete and Grant went skateboarding with JFA. The evening was documented in a subsequent issue of Thrasher as JFA's guitarist Don Pendelton was writing a column for the rag documenting their tour. Other memorable Negative Gain gigs around this time include warming up for bands like the Circle Jerks, Gang Green, the Descendents and 7 Seconds. The young thrash band soon went from listening to their favorite bands' records on a daily basis to hanging out with them backstage and stealing their beer rider! More help from Jill Heath came when the promoter sent Negative Gain's 1985 demo tape, Attack Of The Killer Bears, to Pushead for review. Pushead evidently like the tape so much that he offered to release a full-length LP for the band on his Pusmort label. Negative Gain recorded their album in Oakville, Ontario in about five hours on a Saturday afternoon, as studio time was limited to what the young band could afford to spend on the recording. The session was produced by Brian Taylor of the Toronto band Youth Youth Youth.

Sadly, Pete Warner committed suicide not too long after the recording was completed, and never lived to see its release. His last gig with the band was with Toronto's Bunchofuckingoofs. Negative Gain continued on as a three-piece for about two more years, before splitting in the late 1980s.

I recommend you visit Stormy's Blogged & Quartered blog where the full Discography 1985-1986 is waiting for you. Great Record!
