YOUNG WASTENERS -s/t EP 2006

Very good band from Copenaghen were the Young Wasteners they consisted of Willy (vocals/guitar), Andy (bass), Las (drums) and in 2002 they made their debut on Aggressive Turns Records/Kick N' Punch Records with ten goodies and was really one of the best from the small neighboring state at the time and were also a lot live on the road. 2006 then their last 7Inch on Hjernespind with four tunes. A tasty review from the label itself: "After the highly acclaimed “We Got Ways” album from 2002, this is the last recording session they did before disbanding. This was originally intended to be an album, but during the recordingsession the band broke up and these songs were the only ones that survived. And thank god for that! Young Wasteners proves again on this record that they were one of the absolute best punk acts in Denmark. This is definately more diverse than the album, but it still comes across as being very intense and powerful. Indeed a worthy testament for a classic K-Town band." Little compilation presence, but one of them the great København I Ruiner with a small, but brilliant overview of the Danish scene at the time.

IRON CROSS - Hated & Proud EP 1983

Nothing new in Blogland and not my rips but somehow I listen now to good Skinhead Oi! and for those who do not know them I choose lots of infos from wiki: Iron Cross is a fuckin' great band from Washington D.C. and they play a rough form of street punk and are one of the first bands in the US to adopt the skinhead look and Oi! style. Some early members had close ties to the D.C. hardcore subculture, due to its relationship with other bands, with Ian MacKaye and with Dischord Records. Singer Sab Grey was one of the many roommates in the Dischord House in Arlington, Virginia. The band's name, and with most of its members being skinheads, led to accusations of fascism, which Grey and others in the band and the original D.C. skins have always denied. Iron Cross formed when Dante Ferrando met Sab Grey. Ferrando was previously in the band Broken Cross with Mark Haggerty while in school. When Grey and Dante decided to start a new band, Grey suggested the name Iron Cross. The first lineup consisted of Grey (vocals), Haggerty (guitar), Ferrando (drums) and John Falls (bass). This lineup lasted a very short time, with Falls leaving after Iron Cross's early show at American University. After Falls's departure, the band went through two more bassists before settling on Wendell Blow, the former bassist for the D.C. hardcores of State Of Alert (SOA). The only non-skinhead in the band was Dante, who has usually maintained a spiky punk hairstyle. The band's fourth lineup lasted until just after the recording of their first EP, Skinhead Glory (1000 copies), and just prior to its release. That EP features their signature song "Crucified", which was later covered by many Oi! and hardcore bands. After Blow left the band, he was replaced by John Dunn. Dunn had been an original member of the D.C. skins and was close friends with the band's members. Dunn left the band just before the release of their second EP, Hated & Proud on Skin Flint Records (1000 copies). He was replaced by Paul Cleary, who was a founding member of the D.C. bands Trenchmouth and Black Market Baby. The 1982 compilation Flex Your Head introduced three Iron Cross songs to an audience beyond the eastern United States.

After further line-up changes that left Grey as the only original member of Iron Cross, the band broke up in 1985. Ferrando went on to form the band Gray Matter with Haggerty. Ferrando also played in the band Ignition. Haggerty went on to play with the bands Three and Severin. Blow and Dunn moved to Los Angeles in the late 1980s, and Dunn went on to play in several alternative rock bands. Grey moved to England, where he married and had children. Since then, Iron Cross has re-released their EPs and previously-unreleased material in the form of the full-length CD Live For Now. Grey, who continued performing and expanding his musical style, moved back to Baltimore and, as of 2006, was playing with The Royal Americans (a rockabilly-style band), was performing solo acoustic shows, and occasionally performed with a new lineup of Iron Cross, which completed a national tour in 2003.

A review: "This new Iron Cross represents a step forward for the band. For one thing, the lyrics are vastly better, especially in "Wolf Pack," where a stand is taken against mindless violence. For another, the songwriting is more developed. Finally, the production is much improved from a technical standpoint, though I personally prefer the gravelly guitar sound on their debut. "You're A Rebel" is an amazingly catchy Oi chant." (Jeff Bale, MMR #9, Oct/Nov 1983)

NO THANKS - Are You Ready To Die? EP 1983

Now it's getting loud, fast and short with the debut EP by this New York City combo on Dead Space Records and No Thanks were Donna (vocals), Jimmy (guitars), Jamie (bass), Seth (drums), active from 1982-1985. The first incarnation of the band consisted of Rob (songwriter & guitarist), Jimi (bassist & background vox) ,Seth (drummer & visionary), Donna Damage (singer, feminist artist & band manager). This line up only lasted a few months and Demo 1982 became the love child of this project. During the summer of 1982, No Thanks changed dimensions and replaced Rob with bands bassist Jimi and added Jaime on bass. With this new line up they began to write music as a whole unit and thats when the band flourished. After releasing their EP they playing tons of shows mainly in Manhattan. They opened for well-known bands of the time. On the EP you can't hear four typical NYC Hardcore smasher.

EDDIE MOONEY & THE GRAVE - Lost 1978 Demos EP 2019

Hello folks, I hope the weekend is cozy and runs. Let me enter with more rare tracks which were excavated two years agoEddie Mooney is an English rock and pop vocalist/bassist and in 1975 he moved to Manchester where he formed the progressive rock band "Accidents" with keyboardist Paul McKavanagh and drummer Alan Arenstein. Popular on the student circuit, the band survived the onset of punk, releasing their only Execution EP on their own Eye label. By 1978 Mooney had gone solo and, with backing group the Grave, featuring guitarist Mike Rowbottom and drummer Chris Fisher, he was signed to independent Manchester label TJM Records. In 1978 the label released the bizarre I Bought Three Eggs single, frequently played by BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel. Although it didn't chart, the track attained cult status being re-released on the White Dopes On Punk compilation in 2005 and again on vinyl via the German Still Unbeatable label in 2009. And they put out three more 1978 lost recordings which never released before and this EP shines with four catchy gruffy goodies, one as brand new bonus track and was limited to 83 copies with liner notes from Eddie. Superb lost nugget!

7 SECONDS - The Crew 1984

Classic US Hardcore debut from Reno by 7 Seconds with eighteen decent intense blasts and after on numerous compilations and three 7Inches The Crew was released via BYO and I continue with a retrospective review: "Tiny Mix Tapes wrote that the band's sound "is distilled to a steady grind of too-pah beats and blender-like three-chord sounds, but it’s the combination of this minimalism and Kevin Seconds’s voice, passionate, melodic, hopeful, that makes you believe everything he says." I think, these words describe this record perfect and I regret never seen them live. But their dynamic power on stage comes across on the live album One Plus One from 1987 what I can seamlessly recommend to you. I really enjoy listening to old fantastic classics from time to time, and there are many from various countries and that makes a life as punker worth living, we live/love versatility and variety. I think Mainstream can everyone, punk not! - Now come into the Crew while I'm making myself a little pretty, breakfast is waiting.

12°5 - s/t LP 1980

12°5 were formed 1978 in Paris and had shaken bodies and minds. The band: one girl, Joss (vocals) and four guys, Olivier and Bud (guitars), Jean-Luc (bass) and Frank (drums), an astonishing complicity, lyrics that struck the heart and the stomach, who were not afraid of anyone and who wanted to be heard despite the hell the noise removers were making all around. It didn' take long for the publisher, Philippe (the one who had ears), got involved and accompanied them to their 7Inch J'ai Envie and the debut album in 1980. It's their tours… and they flooded France and all the festivals. They shared the stages with all the rock groups of the time and their meeting with the English punx The Ruts is overwhelming and their second album Entre-Temps was produced in 1982 in Seattle and London with producer John Brand and drummer Dave Ruffy from the famous Ruts. On their return, they set off again on the roads with Starshooter for the TORA, TORA, TORA tour. After these four years of intensive rock, they separate in 1982 smoothly and not even angry and each goes on new adventures. They meet again in 2003. This gives an exceptional concert on January 13, 2004 at the Maroquinerie in a full house. As this concert was an exceptional moment, they decided to do it again on April 17, 2005, again at the Maroquinerie with many guests as well. Solid rock with ten catchy tunes, the weekend is knocking.

PROTES BENGT - In Bengt We Trust EP 1986

Now we come to music extreme and such records exist only a fewProtes Bengt started 1985 and was a blast off hardcore project by Åke (guitars) from Mob 47 and Per (vocals) from Filthy Christians, Ola (bass) & Chrille (drums). The band was mainly formed to break some guys who did a tape with loads of songs. Protes Bengt never rehearsed but made two recordings. The first recording contains 74 "songs" of which thirty-two were released as the In Bengt We Trust EP on Röj Records. Most of the lyrics are really stupid but some have serious contents. The second recording was a twelve track demo called Bengt E Sänkt, the style had change to more one beat hardcore like Heresy, D.R.I. or Lärm. If you haven’t heard this band before and if you’re into Mob 47, Anti-Cimex or Shitlickers you’re probably going to die in a few seconds, they just fucked shit up with this one! Crazy, over the top euro thrash, just a millisecond before others combinded this with Replusion and others. A bit of collector trivia: 1000 copies were made and when the band ordered a second press, the pressing plant mixed up the plates and pressed 1000 more of the Mob 47 EP. They kept them, made new sleeves and sold them. Represses of this came with different sleeves. And yes, the demo that followed after this blows it to pieces. It’s incredible!!! This dittie has thirty-two tracks... so let's smash a window!

FLESH EATERS - Disintegration Nation EP 1978

Fantastic four track killer debut EP on Upsetter Records by the Flesh Eaters and da geht die Luzie ab. A bit info from discogs: "Arising from a punkrock party scene that exploded in the wasted midst of Hollywood tinsel and trash, the Flesh Eaters first mutated into a punk-fueled "roots rock voodoo blues" group (marked by the masterful "A Minute to Pray, A Second To Die" album and a classic line-up of LA scene heavies) and later into a "speed metal esoterrorica" four-piece who throttled American Hardcore with their mix of amped-up guitar hellfire and rough-hewn Jagger/Richards blues. Singer and band constant Chris D. (Desjardins) was able to sprout new heads for his band every couple of years while keeping a supremely intense, performance-as-catharsis ethos very much alive, and always charting fertile new musical ground. Live, Chris D. would shriek like he was conducting the last performance before Satan’s bloody rapture, and as if he just might be taking the audience down with him. The rock pundits of the day thus brought forth much enthusiasm, enthusiasm now all but buried in the yellowing copies of local fanzines. Formed in 1978 and disbanded in 1983, when Chris D. started a new project, Divine Horsemen; reformed around 1990 and active till 2003-2004."

In February 2006, it was announced that the original Flesh Eaters would perform several live shows, including three shows in California and one in England. In 2019 they released I Used To Be Pretty on Yep Roc Records. Tim Hinely of Dagger says "this record sounds like a natural successor to A Minute To Pray even though it was recorded nearly forty years later." On several of the tracks appearing on earlier records, he says "don't let [it] throw you off, as the band really does breathe new life into the songs that were very much alive to begin with.

EVEN WORSE - We Suck! The Lost 1982 Album 2016

Now a slab where I have again to say: Thank You! to the makers who have re-released this delicious music again. Was only available as lame CD under the title You've Ruined Everything 2002 and I wanna quote this nugget with words of the detectives: "One of the best kept secrets of the early pre-NYHC scene, along with Bad Brains, Beastie Boys, Heart Attack, Undead, Kraut, etc., the never-on-vinyl-before lost album by Even Worse, featuring "Big Takeover" magazine editor Jack Rabid (and previously Beastie Boys' founder John Berry, and eventually Noise the Show host/Hugo Largo's Timmy Sommer, and Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore's only punk rock band in a later incarnation), with their classic "New York Thrash" compilation lineup recorded at the famous 171A studio, co-produced by Bad Brains, with additional live tracks from New York's legendary Max's Kansas City Club from August 1981. Limited to 500 copies on 180 gram vinyl plus a revealing insert. (Radiation/ 2016)" - A twenty-two course menu that guaranteed fill you up and maybe, if there's enough space, a little piece of mint afterwards. Colossal Stuff!!

- Great Thx to Fredrik -

THE MOONDOGS - Who's Gonna Tell Mary? 7'' 1980

No idea who sent me the following record but one thing is sure, very good idea: The Moondogs were a Northern Irish rock band and formed 1978 in Derry and consisting of Gerry (vocals/guitars), Jackie (bass), Austin (drums). Three months later they had their first gig, together with the Undertones, also from Derry. It was followed by other appearances in Derry, before they accompanied some gigs of the Undertones in England. In November '79 they released their first single She's 19 on the Good Vibrations. The following year they toured with the Pretenders, supported Police and the Tom Robinson Band, among others, and were back on the road with the Undertones. In October '80 their second single Who's Gonna Tell Mary? was released on Real Records. They recorded two more singles before producing their first album That's What Friends Are For in New York in May 1981. Half a year later the band broke up. Welcome guests on rare compilations and that's no wonder with their appealing mid-tempo sound which this 7Inch clearly proves.

V/A - Suomi-Ilmiö 1981

Now a rather unknown compilation that saw the light of day on Polarvox as cassette and vinyl in the early eighties and what do we discover? A decent mix of sixteen Finnish bands, whose spectrum ranges from punk, rock, new wave & powerpop and transports really good vibrations for my taste, including some classics from well-known bands such as Hassisen Kone, Ratsia or Vaavi and other likeable contemporaries (a little side note, song #13 from the Lizards is missing, I don't know how and where I lost it, if someone has it please send). As is "usual" with some Finnish samplers, apart from the relevant Punk/Hardcore records, I'm almost always convinced by the flexibility and mix of the different music styles which make such records mostly interesting for me and of course, the shot can backfire and the whole thing is a disaster, but not here. This slab is fun and relaxes your body like an escaping fart. Unfortunately no booklet, lyric sheet or other information attached, just a few details on the back cover but with an eye-catcher frontgirl (Yeah, a sexy pearl). That's it for today, enjoy the music and the sun!

Puhhh, what a fucking start yesterday into the weekend and I'm total knocked out, really have trouble sitting at the computer and trying to make you tasty for this little Brazilian D.I.Y. hardcore compilation with four bands, whose recordings are few and partly only on this slab, released via Hard Caos/Crepúsculo Records. I guess, you can imagine what you can expect on this record and I say only "Bash Bash... BAD BRAINS - I Against I 1986

Weekend, Yeah and let's fetz with classic Washington Punkrock by the Bad Brains and I Against I is their third album through SST Records and the best-selling record in the band's catalog. After the first of their countless breakups, the Bad Brains reconvened in 1986 to record this, their undeniable masterwork. Fusing dub reggae and funk rhythms into the mix, and slowing the tempo down enough to appeal to hardcore's emergent metal crossover audience, the Bad Brains created one of the most powerful collections the '80s produced in any genre. On "I Against I" and "House Of Suffering," the quartet suffuses traditional Jamaican spiritualism with modern urban concerns, while the soaring "Sacred Love" is guaranteed to send shivers down the spine of anyone with any soul whatsoever. An essential release.

PROFIL - Berühren 12'' 1981

A trip to the NDW days with a band called Profil, founded by Heinz (vocals), Lüdtke (guitars), P.M. (keys), Weide (bass), B.Hartmann (drums) and their well-known 'Berühren' is a extremely driving song, which has become a cult hit in the electro and wave scene, and remains a highlight of every NDW party. The maxi version, released on the Weltrekord label, can only be bought at a high price as the original, has meanwhile been re-released on numerous compilations. Two more singles and an album followed, but somehow the air was out and the band couldn't build on the debut. The album, which ranges from fast, danceable numbers to thoughtful-melancholy songs, can only confirm the versatility of the five and in contrast to many other records that were released at this time, is anything but an embarrassing LP. With both hits released so far and other excellent electronic pearls, it can certainly be described as a German poprock milestone and more than lives up to the seal of approval of a Weltrekord slab. With the last 7Inch in 1983 they say goodbye to the already declining NDW scene.

NEWS - Dirty Lies 7'' 1978

Modest little 7inch from Down Under now: Formed in Melbourne by Gavin (vocals), Jaryl (guitars), Joy (bass) and John (drums) as Babeez but quickly changed into News, they had always been a non-image band, playing in jeans, T-shirts and leather jackets. On their side was a healthy cynicism about punk itself, especially when rock & roll success and fashionable interests encroached on the revolution. This is their first record I think, self-released and most with one-sided lyric insert. The sleeves were hand screened by the band using black and fluoro yellow ink on cheap inner bags with the record inside. Two awesome killer tunes!

LOST LEGION - s/t 7'' 1982

A detour to our neighbors in idyllic Belgium and we meet there the following band and they made this ultra rare 7Inch, unfortunately I must say, because both songs are hotter than hell catchy mid-tempo goodies and belong really to the top floor, and probably because of that were these Brussels Punks often opener for the infamous P.I.G.Z. -  Otherwise there is not much info about the three, only the band consisted of Manu (vocals/guitars), Tot (bass), Serge (drums) and compilation tracks barely available. You see, it's not easy to tell more stories about Lost Legion, maybe the members merged into other bands or withdrew to family life, who knows. Fact is, their record is superb and is definitely a re-release worth.

ON FILE - Ejected From The Premises 1998

Music that somehow refreshes my day and it's advisable to switch off a bit and Scottish Oi! with On File from Dundee is perfect. Formed 1997 by Hedgy (vocals/guitars), Craig (bass) and Barry (drums) and one year later they released the Monday Thru Friday 7" and Ejected From The Premises but after three gigs the band split. Greg joined on Bass and Stewart on drums in 1999 before the band started touring extensively across Europe, and in 2000 the Another Day In Paradise EP was released followed by the second album The Real McOi! in 2001. In 2002 Pete joined the band and the Birds Don't Like The Skinheads EP was recorded and released. Shortly after Greg left the band and was replaced on bass by Gordy. The band took a break in 2004 and Rossko replaced Pete on Guitar when they started gigging again in 2005. During 2006 the band re-released both albums on CD with the singles as bonus tracks through Step-1 Music and recorded a new track for inclusion on a new Oi! Compilation which featured an exclusive track from all the best British Oi! Bands. Rossko left the band and was replaced by Paul on Guitar in 2007. The band had trips to Greece, Italy & France. 2008 and Blair replaced Paul on guitar, more trips to Europe beckoned and summer 2009 saw On File in the recording studio working on their long awaited third album. Finished on St. Andrew's Day 2009 Breaking Rules was released on Robbie Burns' Day 2010 and followed by more trips to Sweden, Italy, Belgium Germany and couple of rare appearances in their native Scotland.

ROTZKOTZ - Much Funny! 1979

A real classic by one of the first german Punkbands: Rotzkotz from Hanover! Founded 1977 by E.A. Werner (vocals), Horst (guitars), Uli (bass) & Peter (drums). The band with the unsavory name Rotzkotz belongs to the first German punk/new wave groups and paved the way for the fertile new Hanover underground scene. It took two years until the band was finally able to record their self-produced debut (first issue named "Vorsicht! Paranoia" with spraypainted band logo) in the spring of 1979 in England (in the studio of their friends Pop Rivets) and it offers twelve punk goodies which are still tasty today. Even if they did not get as famous as some other bands of their generation, the music is still worth preserving for posterity. In mid 1980 the group received a record deal from EMI and after the Problem 7'' which was revised from EMI without consulting the band they split up after the "Jubel 81" tour in a dispute. Independent again, Rotzkotz stayed with their German lyrics and released their second work, Lebensfroh + Farbenfroh, which is a fine poppunk album and faded the rawness of its predecessor, on which they processed their experiences with EMI. However, disputes about the further direction of the band led to the separation in 1982. Horst made with his new combo Bizarre Leidenschaft a great new wave/synthpop record (Geheimnis) on GeeBeeDee Records but with less resonance. In the following years, Horst appeared again with changing musicians as Rotzkotz for gigs here and there. What remains: Much Funny is German punk history & today fresher than ever, PROST! 💋

CRIMINAL JUSTICE - Hierarchy Of Hell EP 1985

Next slab a typical UK punk record with four decent Gassenhauer from Criminal Justice, formed 1982 in Huddersfield by Chaz (vocals), Nobby (guitars), Kitty (bass), Brooky (drums) and made their live debut (an invites-only house party excepted) at the Fraternity Hall in Huddersfield that September, supporting The Macc Lads. In 1983 they recorded the first demo, four songs produced by Xpozez members Tez & Trimble (both of whom later joined The Instigators). Two tracks from a second demo appeared on the 1984 On The Street compilation, and this was followed by their only single, the Hierarchy Of Hell! EP, which quickly sold out of its pressing of 1000 copies. They split in 1986 after having switched to playing thrash metal under the name Damage Inc. A short review: "A cool 4-song old-fashioned punk release, featuring fuzzed-out guitar, snarling vocals, tight relentless mid-tempo rhythm, and catchy tunes and choruses. Believable." (Tim Yohannan, MMR #23, March 1985)

TURBONEGRO - I Got Erection 7'' 1995

I wanna start the weekend with a single from a band, I guess, that everyone of you knows and "I Got Erection" is their seventh 7Inch (three different versions exist) from the fantastic Ass Cobra album, and a real cracker. 💣💥💣 Short info at this point: Turbonegro came together as a band in Oslo and started around Christmas 1988. Always surrounded by scandal and controversy, they have broken up, retired and changed members several times. They combines glam, punk and hard rock into a self-described "Deathpunk" musical style. Turbonegro's lyrics often attack political correctness. Their genre of punk has been self-described as deathpunk. The band has stated that their music superseded existing genres, so they dubbed it "Deathpunk" as a way to avoid being pigeonholed into musical groupings they felt they were above. Lyrics referencing the genre choice include "gimme deathpunk baby, and I like it" from the song "Get It On". Sharing characteristics with certain musical predecessors, (Sex Pistols wearing swastikas, etc.), Turbonegro has been praised by some as playing the most up-to-date form of punk with an anarchic blend of humour, shock and sexuality. 💥💣💥 The B-side of this single, Jeg Will Bli Som Jesus, is a Norwegian New Wave classic (originally by Kjøtt), sung by Eugene Chadbourne in 'phonetic' Norwegian. The band is still alive and on tour worldwide.

GAZOLINE - Sally 7'' 1977

Gazoline were formed in Paris 1977 by Alain (vocals), Olivier (guitar), Pierre (bass) and Grand Did (drums) they quickly recorded their first 7Inch on a Revox and released via Egg in September 1977. The second 7Inch Killer Man was released three months later, recorded in Barclay studios in nine hours, and Dynamite is playing the drums on this record and shortly after the release the first dissolution follows. A new formation was reborn in February 1978 with Hugues on drums and his brother Fred on bass who came from the group Fassbinder. They play at the Black Ball in March 1978, at the Gibus from April 18-22, then for the Olympia punk night from July 8-10, recordings of it were banned on the interesting Le Rock D'Ici A L'Olympia compilation, regrettably without Gazoline. Alain resume the first formation to release under his name the What Ever Happened To Alain Z. Kan album at the beginning of 1979. From this recording session (before the mixing), there remained an unpublished one, Gigolo which can be found today on the compilation Thesaurus Volume 5. An album followed in 1986 and its mysterious disappearance in 1990. Well, both songs on this slab are a little bit exhausting and everyone who has heard the fantastic Killer Man slab will be very disappointed with Sally, like me. Reissued by Cameleon Records 2016 in an edition of 300 copies.

A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS - Modern Love Is Automatic EP 1981

Released via Jive Records, Modern Love Is Automatic is the 3rd 7Inch by A Flock Of Seagullsmy favorite UK new wave band of the 80s and they serve four decent nuggets for us, two are non-album tracks (I changed a song). Modern Love is also opener on their debut album the following year. A few content-related song details: A love-affair between a mismatched pair. As with many of the groups lyrics, harmonies and videos, there is a suggestion of cosmic energy and other-world imagery. The woman is an "automatic" perhaps symbolizing an android of some type. The man is a "cosmic" perhaps from another planet. The song closes with the man "locked away" but the narrator suggesting he is in fact free. - Such futuristic anecdotes are typical for the band and their relaxed music doesn't make the four dead.

Important useful infos: owing to their memorable and unusual style and appearance, A Flock of Seagulls are sometimes referred to with ironic appreciation. The New Musical Express wrote: "Of course, everyone remembers this group now for singer Mike Score's ridiculous back-combed haircut and the fact that they are mentioned in Pulp Fiction. So now they're kind of cool, but in the early 1980s it was a different story." Their dramatic style has drawn much criticism and parody, but the band has also been recognized as a pioneering act, capturing the spirit of their time, particularly with the guitar work of Paul Reynolds and sonically multi-layered hits such as "Space Age Love Song," "Telecommunication," and "Modern Love Is Automatic." The band also is noted for creating a successful concept album, their debut, which alludes to an alien invasion of earth. Billboard writer Robert Christgau applauded their "mechanical lyrics, about a mechanical end of the world," while noting the "aural pleasure" of both the band's debut album and the follow-up.

INSTIGATORS - Dine Upon The Dead 2002

Back from all the todo's and to be honest, my motivation is fading for today, but I still have one grenade left: The first release in the ‘Gone But Not Forgotten’ series from Blackfish Records is ‘Dine Upon The Dead’ by the Instigators, a tough power melodic punkrock from Dewsbury, one of my favorites in this field. Back in the early ‘80s, they released several critically acclaimed albums, shifted thousands of units & toured all over the world. This retrospective release compiles their first three records (The Blood Is On Your Hands EP '84, Nobody Listens Anymore '85 & the Phoenix LP from '86) together and was planned 2014 as double vinyl via Boss Tuneage but this was never given an official release (but the cover is cool and used for this post). Ten test presses were manufactured but it never progressed beyond that stage. Anyway, fact is: twenty-four in all, of fast, tuneful, positive, politically motivated UK punk. That's enough and tomorrow is a new day.

THE CRANBERRIES - Rare & Live 2018

Let's start this memorable day with a compilation of the fantastic Cranberries whose singer unfortunately passed away three years ago. I have combined twenty-four rare tracks, B-sides and live material here and their music is always a relaxed companion and let me calm down after a stressful day or when things don't go quite so perfectly. Still hard to believe Dolores is no longer with us. I hope you can enjoy their sound as much as I do, I re-upped their first 12'' Uncertain and after visiting the dentist I continue with more stuff.

URLAUB IM ROLLSTUHL - Seveso Kids 1987

One slab that changed hands many many years ago is the following one by U=IxR, a four piece which were founded 1983 in Bad Neuenahr by Hans-Jürgen (vocals), Jim-Bob (guitars), Michael (bass), Björn (drums) and Urlaub Im Rollstuhl released two records through Junk Yard Label (I think their own) and their sound can be described as typical "DeutschPunk" but sometimes they speed up to a hardcore style, faster than the average german punk. The record was published in a hand-numbered edition, but don't ask me how many, I guess 1000 copies were pressed. Also represented on numerous, mostly tape compilations, Beethovens Rache is one on vinyl with only bands from the Bonn area. Fazit: Seveso Kids is a good debut with sixteen solid songs that taste like a barbecue with good friends, enjoy!

SOUTH OF NO NORTH - Fell Frozen 1986

South Of No North was one of the first true darkwave bands to emerge in Greece and consisted of Andreas (vocals), Michalis (guitars), George (bass), Fivos (drums), George (keyboard) and when Charles Bukowski wrote South Of No North, he didn’t know that an Athenian dark wave band would use his title as their band name in November 1983. They had their first gig at Grava’s High School in 1984 with the bands Metro Decay, Villa 21, Yell-O-Yell and Art Of Parties, all label-mates in Creep Records. Mostly influenced by bands such as Japan, Bauhaus and Joy Division, they covered a dark music spectre which was made obvious by their only video shot in their rehearsing studio (check “Baby Steps To A New Era, Vol.II”).

Their gigs were very rare, considering the existing live clubs of those years, but this didn’t stop Creep Records from signing them up to release the first Greek dark wave album in history. “Lacrimae Christi”, their debut, was recorded during September 1984 and was released April 1985. New wave and dark wave took over in the Greek underground. It was easy to attend to some small gig and see the Headleaders in a bar called “Blue Note” (later called “Masswell”) near Kipseli Square, which was territorial South Of No North’s area. This bar had one of the first VCRs in Athens, playing music vids of foreign new wave bands. Punks like the band Ex-Humans were also hanging around. Actually, Fivos, Ex-Human’s drummer, was also playing with South Of No North, as well. The band used Edgar Alan Poe’s poem “Anabell Lee” for one of their songs in their second album, “Fell Frozen” (which was the last release of Creep Records). During the following years there were a few changes in their line up as two keyboard players were added, which pushed their style away from the guitar-oriented sound. In 1989 they opened for Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds at Rodon Club and released the album “South Of No North” reaching the peak of their career with their most successful song, “Sha La La”. One year later they parted ways after a concert with Last Drive and Villa 21. Their last album, a compilation called “Rajah”, was released in 1992 featuring material taken from their past albums. Rumor has it that the band had a new album recorded, which was never released. Later, some of them formed the band Rock Xerox. In 2003 they had a reunion show for the Elfentanz Festival, in Gagarin 205 Club.
