RATSIA - s/t LP 1979

Ratsia was originally formed in 1977 by Jyri (vocals/guitar), Juha (guitar), Rudi (bass, vocals) and Pasi (drums) and they were mostly playing Stooges & Ramones songs, but soon they started writing songs of their own, sung in English. The language was then switched to Finnish. Ratsia took part in the Finnish rock championship competition in 1979 and won in the "New Wave" genre! They were featured on the Hilse compilation with a song called 'Ihohygieniaa', a cover version of Breakdown by the Buzzcocks and many more. In the same year followed the band's debut album, released in fall with great melodic mid-tempo tunes (pretty the Clash cover of 48 Hours). Fourteen smasher all in all and if you really want to find something to complain about the album, you could say that it sounds too clean and February was way too warm. The band broke up in fall 1981.

V/A - Break The Rules #9 1999

Out on Insekten Records, here's another cool LP with tons of rare punkrock tunes from 1978 - 1982 and so it's my fuckin' duty to follow up with Number 9 after the post before And again a pretty collection of songs which should not disappear in the immensity world of Punk-Music. If you like the old goodies sound then this is again a must have. Ripped from glorious vinyl (with lots of help by Franziskaner, hehe..) for our addiction & sick deaf ears. Especially cool is the cover version of  Buzzcocks 'I Don't Mind' by Ratsia. Sounds 1000 times better..aahhhh. I added all the artwork in the file with lots infos to every band. And now you come!!

V/A - Hilse 1979

The Hilse record was the first Finnish punk compilation and it really has all the important punk bands of the late 70's on it. A LP that everyone should have in your record collection. There are many simple reasons, the song 'Just Like Eddy, I Hate Teddy' from KOHU-63 is awesome, 'Ketään Ei Kiinnosta Mitään' by Pelle Miljoona 1980 is crazy & weird, the Beatles cover (Sensuuri), Briard & Ratsia tracks are killers etc. etc....all eighteen songs rock decently how we all like & know Finnish PunkRock (this is the CD version with eleven goodies from Hilse II). Enjoy!!!!

V/A - Suomi-Ilmiö 1981

Now a rather unknown compilation that saw the light of day on Polarvox as cassette and vinyl in the early eighties and what do we discover? A decent mix of sixteen Finnish bands, whose spectrum ranges from punk, rock, new wave & powerpop and transports really good vibrations for my taste, including some classics from well-known bands such as Hassisen Kone, Ratsia or Vaavi and other likeable contemporaries (a little side note, song #13 from the Lizards is missing, I don't know how and where I lost it, if someone has it please send). As is "usual" with some Finnish samplers, apart from the relevant Punk/Hardcore records, I'm almost always convinced by the flexibility and mix of the different music styles which make such records mostly interesting for me and of course, the shot can backfire and the whole thing is a disaster, but not here. This slab is fun and relaxes your body like an escaping fart. Unfortunately no booklet, lyric sheet or other information attached, just a few details on the back cover but with an eye-catcher frontgirl (Yeah, a sexy pearl). That's it for today, enjoy the music and the sun!

1.Mörri Möykky - POPEDA
2.Rappiolla - HASSISEN KONE
3.Osat Hukassa - TYHJÄT PATTERIT
4.Maanantaina - PROBLEMS?
5.Ota Mua Kädestä - LOOSE PRICK
6.En... (Television Ylistys) - SIKA
7.Täältä Tulee Yö - RATSIA
8.Tyttö Koulussani - MARTTI SYRJÄ
9.Tsemppaa - MAUKKA PERUSJÄTKÄ
10.Lauantaina - SIG
11.Ringo Ja Aku - AKU SYRJÄ

13.Roxene - LIZARDS
14.Pupu6kko - PUPUKUUSIKKO

V/A - Bloodstains Across Finland 1996

I dedicate my bloody nightmares the right soundtrack with this compilaion of rare Finnish punk singles (1977-1979) and nothing is more unpleasant to them. With twenty-three essential punk rock blasts I arm myself for the fight against the everyday demons, throw the razor-sharp 7Inches at them and cut their heads off, nobody can hide... I find all of you and after almost forty-five minutes, I'm the winner, Yeah! You think tomorrow will be better for you? Never, because I have the best weapon: Punkrock!! - No matter what you do, it will always end the same. You must know: 500 copies pressed on black vinyl and on some copies one side of label is completely white, while the other side is black. Amen!

V/A - Planet Punk #4 2005

Second and last part of Planet Punk and with Volume 3, this little self-made series is already complete. H2D#26 is another tidbit full of rare stars from international bands that are still kicking ass, much in demand and popular in our fucking disillusioned times which bring little decent music to light in my opinion. Music is like inventions, there is nothing innovative that can really impress me, hardly any wow factor or thing that I can really admire. And I would say that for almost twenty years. Speaking of music, we all hear & see the so called "combos" thrown together, the TV shows which offer only shit and are played over and over by radio stations, all this crap is boring, repetitive and only geared towards profit, commercial shit and really sucks. It's really intoxicating to get acquainted with such music as on this further fantastic compilation and to eke out an existence far away from this dead & dull society. That are the words for Sunday, Amen! Enjoy the vibes of the good ole days!

VAAVI - Hei Anne 7'' + Tytöt Hymyilee 7'' + Nimi EP 1980

It is March, hopefully it soon becomes warmer, Fuck Winter! Let's move to the glory days of early punk stuff with this cracker: Vaavi was formed in summer 1978, when ex-Uutiset ja Sää members guitarist Kari Hipponen and drummer Tommi Micklin joined forces with bassist Jari 'Iku' Viitanen from Jawa. The original vocalist Jorma Nurminen only stayed for a couple of months, but he was the one who came up with the name for the band. In spring 1979 they were one of the finalists in the new wave category of the Finnish rock championship competition, held in Seinäjoki. They only played a ten minute set and finished second, Ratsia being the winner. They released their first single 'Mihin Jäi Punk?' in 1979 on Rokit Records and in May they recorded a song for the Hilse compilation. The band's style is a classic 'romantic' melodic '77 punk sound and not inspired by the Ramones, as so many Finnish punk bands of that time. Vaavi found their own style from the beginning and you can hear that. The band released two albums, a couple of 7inches, many line-up changes were made and they played their final gig in 1988. On this record: Ilkka (vocals), Kari (guitar), Iku (bass) and Tommi (drums), all three pieces released on Johanna Records, eight superb tracks.

V/A - Kick Your Mama's Ass 1996

OK Leute, now we meet a fantastic bootleg which is peppered with eighteen raw and furious punk nuggets from around the world and a label called Reverendo Moon Records from Italy, certainly another synonym for an KBD maniac, pressed this compilation in an edition of 500 copies to the surface. Excellent mix of songs which mark the punk sound between 1977-1981 and you can say what you want: The music was at that time simply better and I wish I had been part of it.
