THE POP RIVETS - Greatest Hits 1979

This album is one more a superb record. The Pop Rivets were Russ Wilkins (bass), Little Russ (drums), Bruce Brand (guitar) and Billy Childish (vox) and came together in England during 1977 along with the punk wave that was then sweeping the music scene. Borrowing money, they recorded an album in 1979, Greatest Hits which make up some of the tracks on this retrospective. Their sound was unpolished, loud and have the speed and aggressiveness of punk in the late seventies. The band recorded an EP and two albums between 1977 and 1980. On this album are only classics, 'Fun In The UK' of course everybody knows, 'Commercial' or 'Hipocrite' are hits I listen three times in a row. Ahh, Fuck, this is great stuff and you're a fool if you're not stop here.

POP RIVETS - Back From Nowhere EP 1980

This rare record on Hipocrite Music/M.T.Sounds was released without a sleeve and another highlight from the U.K. Three damn catchy punk goodies from the Pop Rivets. Meeting exactly my nerve and get everyone into the correct sitting position. Their 'Greatest Hits' album can be found also here in this cinema. Cast off and into a new sunny day, but before a delicious pint......small joke!

THE IGNERENTS - Radio Interference 7'' 1979

The Ignerents were formed in 1977 in Whitstable, Kent, by brothers Chris and Steve Harris, joined by neighbour Mark Leighton on guitar, vocalist Kevin Holmes (later replaced by Ben Challis) and drummer Stan 'Gretsch' Littlejohn. The band were an important part of the local punk scene in the late seventies in Kent alongside bands like Wild Billy Childish's Pop Rivets, Naughty Thoughts and the Rivals. Like others they identified with Punk if not actually playing Punk. Having demoed for Step Forward records with the excellent 'Uganda Calling' the band released their debut 7'' in 1979 (Radio Interference) on Ace Records and then re-released it on their own label. The band finally evolved into a new band, The Beekeepers, which featured Nick Appleton on guitar alongside Steve and with Chris, Ben and Stan, and then after Stan died, Russell Lax on drums. The Beekeepers released one 7'' called Platform 5 in 1981. On the live circuit the Ignerents were active from 1977-1981 with infrequent gigs that included the Marquee Club (with Chelsea) and the Vortex in London (with Wayne County & The Electric Chairs) and they supported bands like 999 and The Only Ones. So enjoy this little pearl of early UK punk stuff and give the band your full attention. (source: punk77)

ROTZKOTZ - Much Funny! 1979

A real classic by one of the first german Punkbands: Rotzkotz from Hanover! Founded 1977 by E.A. Werner (vocals), Horst (guitars), Uli (bass) & Peter (drums). The band with the unsavory name Rotzkotz belongs to the first German punk/new wave groups and paved the way for the fertile new Hanover underground scene. It took two years until the band was finally able to record their self-produced debut (first issue named "Vorsicht! Paranoia" with spraypainted band logo) in the spring of 1979 in England (in the studio of their friends Pop Rivets) and it offers twelve punk goodies which are still tasty today. Even if they did not get as famous as some other bands of their generation, the music is still worth preserving for posterity. In mid 1980 the group received a record deal from EMI and after the Problem 7'' which was revised from EMI without consulting the band they split up after the "Jubel 81" tour in a dispute. Independent again, Rotzkotz stayed with their German lyrics and released their second work, Lebensfroh + Farbenfroh, which is a fine poppunk album and faded the rawness of its predecessor, on which they processed their experiences with EMI. However, disputes about the further direction of the band led to the separation in 1982. Horst made with his new combo Bizarre Leidenschaft a great new wave/synthpop record (Geheimnis) on GeeBeeDee Records but with less resonance. In the following years, Horst appeared again with changing musicians as Rotzkotz for gigs here and there. What remains: Much Funny is German punk history & today fresher than ever, PROST! 💋

V/A - British Underground 1977-1982 Vol.2

There are days I really like to sit at the computer and postin' some rare stuff, today is such a day, and let's come to the last cream on this coldy Sunday and it's an unoffical compilation from Chaos Wrecords, released in an edition of 700 hand-numbered copies (I think in 1994) and this fourteen British Underground pieces are certainly not the best of UK punk & wave goodies (in my opinion) but it's another piece of countless bootlegs (it's good that they exist) and the song selection is not bad. I cannot say how I came across this series but it was worth and I bought this record via ebay. I love English punk and with the Disco Zombies and Crisis are two of my favorite bands on it, so bring it on. Of course required Volume 1 and a total of three slabs of this mini-serie were released to date and the last one follows then in 2022. Now enjoy the rest weekend with beautiful music, cold beer and other intoxicating means + the sun.
