P.I.G.Z. - Bloody Belgium 12'' 1978

A essential record comes right now from Belgium. The P.I.G.Z. from Kortrijk, who played a lot with The Kids & blew them regularly off stage (at least that's what the old punks from Kortrijk claim). Three tracks from their one and only record, a 12", cos it's so damn rare (their only other output is two songs on the 'Punk live, First Belgian Punk Contest' compilation album). It's from 1978, the tracks are in a different order than the labels say & it came in an originally white paper sleeve that had the Pigz name glued on it & was further hardcolored with some black. In 1978 the Pigz also participated in Humo's RockRally, Belgium's most important musical contest for upcoming bands, set up by Humo magazine. Anyway, here we have enough rough KBD punk rockers from a band which was really too short active.

Not really a wish but I am fond of this post especially because the sound booms now out of my boxes and I swing my pretty ass to that. Number one of the bloody Belgium section with sixteen rare goodies and you will find a few of the original 7Inches in this Blog or over at kbdrecords. A small country with a great Punkscene and lots of cool bands which release a lot of good records and I like the rough sound and the offensive words, very very pleasant - So far so good, now I rip a record and come back soon.

Seventh homemade compilation in this theater from the CD-R bootleg label Get Baque Records. And in this episode they take a trip to Belgium and present us twenty five rare Punk/New Wave/PowerPop highlights from 1977-1982. Well, seventy-five percent of the protagonists are already known and represented on numerous compilations, the remaining twenty-five are worthwhile and interesting. That speaks once more for the variety of bands from the Euroheadquarters state. Of course you can say, "Oh no, not Belgium again" and do I need that at all? The answer is an unequivocal YES! Another unofficial release is comin' up now and I hesitated to post it because it's present in the net. But who cares, so I ripped my copy (besides, my rips are the best anyway, hähä) and it was the right choice. Let me give you some info from the back cover: "Being a very small country, Belgium's never had a lot punkbands around, but the ones that existed and made it onto vinyl are very much worth checking out. If you're not familiar with the original belgian punk stuff you'll get the picture after hearing this record." And so it is. Fantastic noises here and I have nothin' to add, except look around the net for the excellent Bloodstains compilations with tons of more rare Belgium stuff. Bloody Belgium is a great piece of vinyl, only hits, cool cover and lots of infos to every band/record. Merci!!

LOST LEGION - s/t 7'' 1982

A detour to our neighbors in idyllic Belgium and we meet there the following band and they made this ultra rare 7Inch, unfortunately I must say, because both songs are hotter than hell catchy mid-tempo goodies and belong really to the top floor, and probably because of that were these Brussels Punks often opener for the infamous P.I.G.Z. -  Otherwise there is not much info about the three, only the band consisted of Manu (vocals/guitars), Tot (bass), Serge (drums) and compilation tracks barely available. You see, it's not easy to tell more stories about Lost Legion, maybe the members merged into other bands or withdrew to family life, who knows. Fact is, their record is superb and is definitely a re-release worth.
