Now it's getting loud, fast and short with the debut EP by this New York City combo on Dead Space Records and No Thanks were Donna (vocals), Jimmy (guitars), Jamie (bass), Seth (drums), active from 1982-1985. The first incarnation of the band consisted of Rob (songwriter & guitarist), Jimi (bassist & background vox) ,Seth (drummer & visionary), Donna Damage (singer, feminist artist & band manager). This line up only lasted a few months and Demo 1982 became the love child of this project. During the summer of 1982, No Thanks changed dimensions and replaced Rob with bands bassist Jimi and added Jaime on bass. With this new line up they began to write music as a whole unit and thats when the band flourished. After releasing their EP they playing tons of shows mainly in Manhattan. They opened for well-known bands of the time. On the EP you can't hear four typical NYC Hardcore smasher.

Whomever you are? When A band you recorded with still has people interested in their music 40 years later and a record that is a collectors item worth 700.1200 a pop, come talk with me. ReplyDeleteNO THANKS did not play and write music to make money or crowd please. We were 4 individuals unhappy with our generation of order followers. We did not play shows to gain fans or kiss the ass of the corrupt music business. We were angry. We did not want to be a part of retarded NYHC scene and quit at the height of our unwanted success. We were true punks and lived our message. We were vegetarians and rejected the tenets of a system based on war and animal cruelty.
We moved on to other things after the band's breakup in 1984. We do not care about anyone's opinion of who we were especially misogynist writers of HIS STORY whom sold books based on twisted self promotion and basic bullshit.
In 2007, I remastered NO THANKS catalogue and created a dyi label called Mr Modoreefer Records to distribute hand made cdr releases which sold out quickly as I toured California playing shows in honor of NO THANKS drummer Seth who passed away. Later after many offers from record labels to release a culmination of our work on vinyl, I decided to go with Lengua Armada who was the only label I actually trusted after the debacle of DEAD SPACE records who robbed us blind in 1983.
I archived everything I could find on the NO THANKS facebook page in memory of Seth and Jimi, my fallen NO THANKS brothers and moved on with my life.
A few months ago I was contacted by a fan who was scammed by a website called USENET.nl whom is putting up multiple web pages mainly located in Russia offering a free download of NO THANKS, Are you ready to die? the site redirects to their website asking for 14.95 to join and once they have your credit card, they indiscriminately charge you hundreds of dollars. This person was charged over 500. and my music was the lure to their trap.
Honestly, before this, I never googled NO THANKS to see what was going on and BOY WAS I SURPRISED on how many blogs offered free downloads of the album and how many scam sites were using the band to lure people looking for a download.
So being of a law background, I filed over 30 DMCA takedown notices to stop what I saw as a ridiculous situation. I am sorry if your blog was taken down, but not one of you even tried to contact me for permission to use my material on your blog and I am easily findable. The only way to stop the scammers was to create an authorized site such as bandcamp where people could download our music. I never cared to make money off NO THANKS, it is not about that.
I find it totally screwed that people think they can use your work without asking permission and then have the nerve to have an opinion when you have a problem with it. I think it is disrespectful and will not tolerate it.
Futhermore,I care not if you have an opinion about this. The comments I receive are always by an anonymous source about how I am a hippy or old or crazy. I do not care about punk rock or cowards who hide behind computer screens. I have to protect my fans and myself.
Please respect OG band's music rights.. you have no idea how hard they worked to make that recording usually without thanks or any compensation.
