ROLAND'S GOSSKÖR - Pigs Part One EP 1983 + Genom Barriären EP 1984

Roland's Gosskör are a punk band from Åkersberga which founded in 1978. First they playing their first concert at Bergaskolans Uppehållsrum in 1978 under the name Fast Kids. They were class mates Conny Melkersson, Curt Sandgren, Johan Lindström and Magnus Lange. Magnus departed quite early when the musical direction of every little sketch and too much punk. Ola Olsveten came in and the name was changed to Roland's Gosskör. In Winter 1979 they recorded the first demo and it became a worldwide success in the circle of friends. 1980, drummer Olis could not or did not want to play anymore, so during a concert in front of 500 raggare hazardous they recruited their new drummer Patrik Trankell. 1982 the 2nd demo was recorded. The Exploited played this year in Stockholm, but they never showed up so the band was honored to enter the stage instead, the audience consisted of fifty skinheads. After a few minutes of scratching in the barn so the concert started and Roland had a new bassist, Åke. In 1983 the first EP 'Pigs Part One' came out and they had ten hours studio time at night to an "unbelievable price". The EP was pressed in 480 copies but no one wanted to buy it and in the end they stayed minus. So the band come in contact with Janne Dahlbom from Rosa Hornung and he had heard Roland's second demo. He works on the compilation Vägra För Helvete and he puts 'Gossen Franco & Maktbegär' on this record. So at the time a radio show called 'Lilla Bommen' rewievs the comp. and the voice says: 'It sounds as if all the bands are recorded through a telephone, except Roland's Gosskör.' So they were very excited and sent a copy of the first EP to Lilla Bommen and the song 'FBU' was elected as the most played song in the show in 1984. So the train started to roll with more gigs and new songs. 1984 the second EP was released on Studio Otukt Records with three classic '77 style punk smashers. Patrik went to Florida and they're playing now as a trio. The result is a song on the live compilation Birkagården Gärdet. Roland's Gosskör continued to play a whole lot out there. 1986, they went into the studio again to record their third single 'Långt Härifrån', unfortunately, there was no money to continue and so the record never came out. Around 1988 they envolved into NEIN and play together with Coca Carola a gig in Ultrahuset, it was the night the house burned down.

A limited cassette (Långt Härifrån) was produced and given to all who had been involved in the 'Sista Dansen' project. The cassette was a full set from the concert. 1990, the label Studio Otukt released the live split LP Sista Dansen (with Asta Kask) and it can not measure up to the inferno that the three concerts were for those who were there, but the LP proofs that it happened. 1992 saw a re-issue of the second EP on Beat Butchers and the band had a short reunion to play on their 10 year anniversary. Roland's Gosskör leave us with two amazing crazy records and have a permanent place when we talk about early Swedish punk rock.

KIZZA PING - Demo Hösten 1980

Well, it almost seems as if the blog death is picking up speed again, first the crash on AJ's hard drive and now Doc Drunk, who is having an extra long drink... Eieiei. Well, I hope both find their way back and enjoy their break. Now let's talk about Kizza Ping, an interesting combo from Linköping and I'll let them say a few words about herself:

"So was the headline in an article in Östgöta Correspondenten January 1982. Even though we were pestered by some mates it did in fact have some truth. Most of us were breed by the punk but all started to become tired. The incredibly exciting punk scene of 1977-1980 had slowly ebbed away. The bands that took over after The Clash and Ebba Grön were The Exploited and Anti-Cimex and were not as fun. Instead bands like Simple Minds, U2 and Reeperbahn came and it was about here Kizza Ping started.

The first chords appeared 1980. Anders, Johan, Lars and me had performed in punk bands as RAS, ÅOBF, Spy and Zpamhead. During the summer I had made some appearances with the joke band Rabarbarna. Helene and Annette sang "Young & pimply", the only song we had. When it was time to establish a real band during the autumn, the girls were natural members. Helene and Annette, our own Annifrid & Agnetha, were of course a big asset. They used their voices in several different ways, sometimes they devoted their time to the undervalued singing exercise in canon. Johan's and Anders' tunes differed us to other bands in the town as well as Johan's especial bass playing. The fact, that we were on stage six times also contributed, punk was simply too far away.

To arrange stage sessions was no problem at the time in Linkoeping. Just call the youth recreation centers (yes, it existed at that time) and decide a date. The music association Rock d’Amour did of course also exist and people always came. In some way we managed to take the band one step further. We got performance stage sessions in neighbour-towns, wrote contract with local Dåvhjort Records and the single ”Männen”/”Lär I Tid” (Men/Learn In Time) (of course recorded at Bosse Sound) did get a good review in the customs of that time Music Bible "Schlager". We were interviewed by Radio Östergötland, were several weeks on the local chart and did small out on tours to Gävle, Västerås & Göteborg.

Maybe we could come even further. In March 1982, just a few months after the single, we made our last play. Today, almost twenty years later, I have no idea why we did end. I must call some of the others and ask if they remember. To listen to these old songs today feels strange. Sure it sounds dated but at the same time I like what I hear. Despite we were just between eighteen and twenty we managed to do something that didn't sound like all others. And the punk most of us did return to." Peter Kagerland/April 2001 (Source: b-sound)

CHRON GEN - Live @ The Old Waldorf San Francisco 1985

In 30 minutes is kick-off and I hope for the miracle of London, I'm already excited and therefore now a few words to this nice slab by Chron Gen, published by Hard Court/Picasso, whiche are not mine but fit: Chron Gen (short for Chronic Generation) are a British punk band formed in January 1978 in Letchworth, Hertfordshire. Chron Gen initially comprised former members of The Condemned and Optional Xtras. Band members included Glynn (Baxter) Barber (vocals/guitarist), Jon 'JJ' Johnson (drummer), Adam Warwicker (bass guitar), and Jon Thurlow (rhythm guitar), with Pete Dimmock replacing Warwicker after the band recorded their first demo. The band released their debut EP Puppets Of War in 1981 on their own Gargoyle label; It spent almost ten months in the UK Independent Chart, peaking at # 4. With the success of the EP, Chron Gen were invited to join The Exploited, Discharge, Anti-Pasti, and The Anti-Nowhere League on the now infamous Apocalypse tour in the UK in the summer of 1981. They released a single on the Step Forward label before moving to Secret Records, who issued the band's debut album, Chronic Generation, in March 1982. It reached # 53 on the UK Albums Chart, and was the last release to feature Thurlow, who was replaced by Mark 'Floyd' Alison. The band toured with Anti-Nowhere League on their 'So What' tour and toured the United States in support of the album. After a further single, Dimmock left to join Chelsea (and later Bandits at 4 O'Clock), and was replaced by Roy Horner. The band's final release was the 1984 mini-album Nowhere to Run, which was recorded before Horner joined and featured session musician Nigel Ross-Scott on bass. It didn't match their earlier success and the band split up in October 1984. The band have played occasional reunion shows since. Floyd later joined The Occasional Tables. He died on 31 October 1999 and Pete Dimmock died on 12 August 2011. - Enjoy!

V/A - Burning Ambitions (A History Of Punk) 1982

Burning Ambition: The History of Punk, attempts to be a definitive overview of the British (except DK) wave/punk scene in the late 70s/early 80s and while it falls short of its goals, it's nevertheless an admirable effort. Surely some of you, like me, have the original records at home but this double album should become a favorite of yours, because this record is one of the finest punk compilations which is ever released. THE EXPLOITED - Troops Of Tomorrow 1982

Continue with the next classic on wdthtc. The protagonists are Wattie (vocals), Big John (guitars), Gary (bass), Danny (drums) and Steve (drums on two songs) or simply The Exploited. This is their second album on Secret Records and what I meant by Slaughter is with this record completely the other way around. Sure, Punx Not Dead is a great album but this is far better. On the one hand the sound is much cleaner and more powerful than the debut and the songs are much harder and more catchy, the four have developed further and then to name the album after a Vibrators song (to be found on V2and to cover it excellently is a brilliant move. ' Fuckin' USA' is the hymn par excellence and my favorite song of the Scots, other classics 'Sid Vicious', 'UK82', 'So Tragic' or 'Germs', shine with dynamic hardness and are pure punk. The boys from Edinburgh been never better than here. There's one more record, War Now 12'', in the Blog but I can't find the file, DAMN FUCK! Anyway, now I'll have to buy some more Mythos and I know I'll get the 12'' soon. And now enjoy the noise making, chaos causing, government hating, rule breaking, unrelenting punkrock sound of the fantastic Four!

PSYCHOTIC FUNHOUSE - Mad Axe Man EP 1982

Superb single with further lost recordings of a band that certainly nobody has on the slip and would make even Santa Claus sweat. We're talking about the first Love Child Release and this piece of vinyl is limited to 250 copies in hand-made, hand-numbered sleeves and was recorded at Twilight Studios Salford 1982 and has three rough crunchy pieces on it. Formed circa 1980 and initially called Social Disease, the original line-up of Manchester punk outfit Psychotic Funhouse was Wayne (vocals), Clive (bass), Pat (drums) and guitarist 'Khani'. Khani was soon replaced by Stuart. Managed by Pete 'Aussie' McCormack, Clive and Aussie rented a house in Flixton, an area of Greater Manchester that had a strong punk scene. The band’s earliest gigs took place in their local pub, The Lord Nelson under the watchful eye of landlady Margaret who enjoyed having punk bands on stage but wouldn’t accept any nonsense from them. The gigs went down really well with both the punks and local customers. PF’s first proper gig was in The Ancoats pub, a popular hangout for Manchester Punks. Run as a charity fundraiser, the gig attracted the Manchester Evening News who subsequently published an article and photograph featuring the band. Now friends of punk stalwarts G.B.H and Discharge, PF were invited as support for an upcoming Dunkinfield gig. Finding it sold-out and packed to the rafters, the Funhouse ran through their 7-song set twice! Soon after, the band scraped together enough cash to record three tracks at a little studio in Salford called Twilight. This was the studio that the Smiths later recorded their first ever demo. The band would go on to support GBH whenever they played Manchester, plus Exploited when they played the Cloud 9. The final PF gig was at the Red Lion pub in Flixton; in fact, the last live gig the Red Lion hosted! Search for more Love Child stuff in the Blog.

STRAW DOGS - Dog's Life EP 1981

Now a rare EP by the Straw Dogs, Turky (vocals/bass), Deke (guitars/vocals), Mick (guitars), Bert (drums), an early Scottish Oi!/Punk combo who made their only 7Inch in 1981 and brought this four piece track vinyl in self-produced/released to the folks and they put two more songs on vinyl on the Kikrock Volume One Compilation and that's it. Spanish label Evil Records discovered the band and it took them nearly two years to be able to contact one of the band's members after a lot searching, and they agreed to re-issue this rare Oi! & Punk gem, but there was a problem, the band didn't keep the master, so the label and one of the band members tried to get a copy of the master from the original studio where they recorded back in 1981, but the lads didn't keep the tapes, so the label had to take one of the 7" to the studio and re-master it. Mick, one of the band members who also played in the Exploited for two years or so, had some old pictures so there was stuff to work with for the artwork. This release is limited to 350 copies on black vinyl and includes insert with lyrics and pictures. There are four different cover versions, two of them limited to thirty copies with a cloth screen printed patch, collectors certificate... but even if its limited to 30 only 20 copies were put on sale as the rest was for band members and label close friends. There is also a limited to ten copies with collage handmade cover. Forgot to mention Evil Records did a special edition limited to twenty-five copies for the first pre-sales which included a numbered.

THE EXPLOITED - War Now 12'' 1988

Formed 1979 in Edinburgh, The Exploited is a punk band from the second wave of UK punk and every punk knows them. Standing tall as a long-running paradigm of British hardcore, the Exploited - a name emblazoned on the backs of countless leather jackets - is musically harsher, darker and cruder than the Edinburgh band's '77 forefathers. So I must not leave a lot of words about them. They started out as a street punk band, before transforming into a faster hardcore direction, only with a heavy political influence. From about 1987 on they changed into a crossover thrash band. They signed to Secret Records in March 1980 and released their debut EP Army Life (which was #6 in the independent charts for eight weeks), followed by their best album I think 'Punk's Not Dead' which slogan is written on every grey wall in every grey city. Three songs here, all well done!

MAYHEM - Gentle Murder EP 1982

One hour until today's match against Hoffenheim and I'll pass the time with a cracker, the debut 7Inch from Mayhem on Riot City Records with four rough speedies. Founded 1979 in Southport by Mick (vocals), Johnny (guitar), Deadcat (bass), Collo (drums). Info from discogs: Initially started with a load of mates knocking about together coming out of the legendary Eric's club Liverpool where they all went to the matinees on a Saturday except for Collo who was a bit older and hit the Punk scene with full force because he could. Mick's old school mate Andy Carroll was involved in the early days as manager, he also was involved with sleeve artwork and created the band's logo as well as taking some of the sleeve pictures. Andy signed Mayhem to Riot City Records of Bristol which led to touring with Vice Squad. Numerous independant gigs went on with support for the Exploited at Brady's (ex Eric's) being a particulary mad night for the book. Mick McGee, Andy Carroll and later, one of the Mayhem wreckin' crew ~ Phil 'Rabbit Man' Harrison got involved as road crew for the DK's also. The lads did three UK tours with the DK'sAs ever band members switch about with other local groups and Mayhem members were also with Blitzkrieg and The Insane. Mick Collo was formerly with the earlier Southport Punk band The Dumb Blondes. This is from David Ball, of Failsafe fanzine fame. - Enjoy!

G.B.H - No Survivors EP '82 + Give Me Fire 7'' '82 + Catch 23 7'' 1983

Punk Rocking For Over 30 Years, that's what we have here now. - Charged G.B.H are an English Street punk band, formed in 1978 by vocalist Colin Abrahall, guitarist Colin "Jock" Blyth, bassist Sean McCarthy & Drummer Andy "Wilf" Williams. G.B.H were early pioneers of English street punk, often nicknamed "UK82", along with Discharge, Broken Bones, The Exploited etc.. They have gone on to influence several punk rock musicians. The name G.B.H was inspired by then-bassist Sean McCarthy's trial for grievous bodily harm. Charged GBH embarked on several English and mainland US tours during the early 1980s, including several gigs at the 100 Club. 1981 saw G.B.H's first record Leather, Bristles, Studs & Acne and one year later the first full length album, City Baby Attacked By Rats. Lyrically, the band dealt with criticism of British and European culture, violence, morbidity (especially in reference to the song "Passenger On The Menu", which describes in graphic detail the experiences of the passengers on the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571), atheism, nihilism and humour. Musically, the band is loud and fast, with few songs exceeding three minutes. In 1984 the band changed their name to G.B.H (Grievous Bodily Harm). Unlike some early punk bands that evolved towards other styles, G.B.H have stayed fairly faithful to their original UK82 sound in subsequent releases. However, the band have experimented to some degree with a more speed metal-inflected sound and at this point i'm losing my interest. So here we have three singles from the early days and everyone is a pretty UK Punkrock Killer.

V/A - Back-Stage Pass 1986

Back to some old stuff to what every punk out there already knows. Released by Rossil Records in Portugal originally in 1980 and I have here the Polish pressing on Pronit Records from 1986 and I don't know if there's a UK release. Anyway, on it the Créme of early UK Punkrock and I think the makers use the current singles from that time to put it together and bring them closer to the scene outside the UK. Maybe an unofficial release. There is sadly no info inside. Worth mentioning are the tracks by Manufactured Romance with a female singer and I have never heard anything before and do not known the band to date. Who takes a look at the tracklist will find out that only hits are represented and you have when listening a lot of fun & maybe many nice memories as I.

1.Where Have All The Boot Boys Gone? - SLAUGHTER & THE DOGS
2.Wanna Be A Star - COCKNEY REJECTS
3.Fireball - CYANIDE
4.Emotional Blackmail (Parts 1+2) - U.K.SUBS

ATTAQUE 77 - Dulce Navidad 1989

Christmas is over but this record is currently running up and down because.... A bit info from wiki: "Attaque 77 is an Argentine punk rock group and were formed 1987 in Buenos Aires as a group of friends who got together to play their favorite songs, most of them by the Ramones, their favorite band and the one that influenced them the most. They started writing songs in the same punk rock style, lyrics with proletarian content (about exploited factory workers, etc.), and wore denim jackets, which became one of their hallmarks in their beginnings. Currently, only three members continue performing and recording. When they were just starting, they played the more traditional punk rock and in those years, the band became more popular by virtue of a more melodic style. High points in the band's history include the album El Cielo Puede Esperar in 1990, with the first band's big-hit "Hacelo Por Mí" and performing their first gigs at the Estadio Obras in October 1991." Many records have since been released and the band is still active and touring decent and maybe a new album will follow.

SÖTLIMPA - A Non Fitting Generation 12'' 1984

It's a bit chilly this morning so it takes some heated music to warm you up and the following slab from Skvaller Records does that perfectly. Sötlimpa was a Swedish combo from Mölndal outside Gothenburg and consisted of Jesus (vocals), Martin (guitars), Raimo (bass), Hans (drums). The band was formed 1981 in the beginning of the second wave of Punk, influenced by bands like the Exploited and developed from Punk with Oi!-influences to a raw Hardcore quartet. In total they released a Single, a 12Inch and two cassettes and represented on numerous compilations. They disbanded in 1984, before re-emerging in 1992, 1996 and 2017. In their relative short time if existence the gang is claimed to have made around 100 gigs and earned a reputation as a great live band. A useful review: "Up-tempo Hardcore with catchy rhythms from Sweden’s Sötlimpa. Driving pace but it keeps the harmony and beat. Fun, danceable stuff. Too bad it’s a muddy mix; still, you’ll never know as you fly with the music." (Pushead, MRR #20 • Dec. 1984) - Brilliant Stuff!

KOHU-63 - Valtaa Ei Loistoa 12'' 1982

Kohu-63 was formed already in 1977, so it can be said that they are one the pioneers of punk in Finland. Their first recordings appeared on a legendary compilation, called Hilse LP, that came out in 1979. Hilse LP was the first Finnish punk compilation and it really has all the important punk bands of the late 70's. After that compilation they only sang in Finnish. Their first record came out in 1981 and it was a EP called 'Pelimannimusaa'. It was released on Poko Rekords. After that Kohu went more and more in a Hardcore direction and they released their MiniLP called 'Valtaa Ei Loistoa', also on Poko Rekords. "The missing link between Lama and the younger Finnish thrash bands. Kohu-63's newer material is considerably faster than the tracks on their '77-like 'Pelimanimusaa' EP. They certainly haven't lost any drive or power, though some of the melodic hooks may have been trampled in the stampeding tempo. Still, a fine record, and check out the Cockney Rejects-Exploited parody ('Härpsälä Kids') for a good laugh.'' - Jeff Bale (from Maximum Rock'n'Roll #3, November/December 1982)

STEVE ROBERTS - Do You Know Who I Am? 1982

Drummer Steve Roberts (U.K. Subs, Cyanide, Exploited) with his rare solo album, released via The Exploited Record Company. Thirteen typical UK smasher from the early 80s he wrote here (five of them cover versions) and capable musicians support him in the implementation of his musical creations. Not bad the record and a new positive surprise for me. If you like the sound of the bands above you can't ignore this album. Now it's time for the ten o'clock tea.

KANGRENA - Terrorismo Sonoro EP 1983

Based in Barcelona are Kangrena and the four have only made in their short lifespan one 7Inch on Anarchi Rekords, and this sucker features five pieces of unique and irreproducible sound. The band was formed in 1981 by Kike (guitars), Johnny (bass) and Manolo (drums) while singer Quoque teamed up with them afterwards: He, uninvited, joined them up on stage for their version of "My Way" on a show in December that same year and was offered the vocalist's post. The name (a misspelling of the Spanish word for "gangrene"), was chosen because they wanted something that could be indentified with what they were doing. Or so they said in that interview for the Spanish fanzine "Melodias Destructoras." As for their influences, they said that musically it was the Sex Pistols sped up and Crass & Exploited lyrically. As for local influences, they expressed their like for Ultimo Resorte, Decibelios, R.I.P., Attak, Frenopaticss and some Siniestro Total stuff and their dislike for anything out of Madrid. They kept playing about once a month until their debut EP 'Terrorismo Sonoro' was released in 1983, some compilation appearances (mostly on tapes) followed and a seventeen track cassette called Estoc De Pus was released in 1984 and a second 'El Cubo De La Basura' a year later. Shortly thereafter the band broke up. Kangrena weren't famous for melodic songs, they are rough, untamed, undisciplined and uncompromising Hardcore that will blow your mind after several listens and more effective than any Aspirin, guaranteed!

G.B.H - Leather, Bristles, Studs & Acne 1981

I have long considered to post this classic because a) everyone has it and b) it's available with bonus tracks. But today, after more than two years sleepin' on my hard drive I'm now in G.B.H temper and that's good. Long time ago I've been listen to this classic and this is a must for anyone who calls himself a punk. Nine songs full of energy which were not recorded as before. G.B.H made an important step towards into an angry, fast and furious powerful hardore/punk sound and influenced a raft of young bands. Their debut 12'' is for me one of the best UK punk records. Issued as mini album by Clay Records in 1981 and spent thirteen weeks in the Indie Chart, eventually peaking at No.8. A little info for those who need it: G.B.H (Grevious Bodily Harm) are an English hardcore punk band, formed 1978 in Birmingham by vocalist Colin Abrahall, guitarist Colin "Jock" Blyth, bassist Sean McCarthy and Drummer Andy "Wilf" Williams. G.B.H were early pioneers of English street punk, along with Discharge, Broken Bones, Exploited, and The Varukers. They have gone on to influence several punk rock musicians. G.B.H the name was inspired by then-bassist Sean McCarthy's trial for grevious bodily harm. They have tons of 7inches and albums out and they're still active. This is G.B.H at their best and let's enter the weekend!
