VS. - Magnetic Heart 7'' 1980

From San Francisco, California this is VS. and their only record on Monkey Records. Line-up here: Heidi Familiar (vox), Olga De Volga (bass + vox), Indian Wells (guitar) and Alex MacNicols (drums). VS. was Olga De Volga's band after she was in the OFFS and before/during The Lewd (known for the classic Kill Yourself single). Fantastic two-sided KBD standouts, Magnetic Heart is a nice mid-tempo number while the flip Leather Complex is significantly better, fuzzy guitars, great female voices, short and crunchy played, hard to beat. VS. are on some compilations, noteworthy the Brainkiller record. Sad info at the end, Olga passed away in March 2008 but her songs remain unforgettable... essential stuff.

LA BANDA TRAPERA DEL RÍO - s/t LP 1979

Let's join the end Seventies and we visit Catalonia to a) immerse in warmer climate, and b) to meet this interesting band: La Banda Trapera Del Río is a Spanish rock band which were founded in the neighborhood of San Ildefonso in Cornella de Llobregat (Barcelona). Having emerged almost simultaneously with pop punk (1976), they are regarded as precursors in Spain, although members of the group were not considered punks. In fact, although their music draws like that, actually more in attitudes (especially "Morfi", the singer and showman), he was an urban and gritty garage rocker. Keep in mind that members who shaped the final sound of the band (Juan Pulido (drums) and "Uncle Modes" (guitars)) came from groups of symphonic or progressive rock. In 1978 they received several offers to release an album, finally chose Belter. But first that year appeared their first 7Inch "Rule/Rock Cloaca" on Monster Records, considered one of the foundation stones of punk in Spain. The publication of the debut album La Banda Trapera
Del Río was delayed almost a year, despite being already recorded. In addition the band always complained that Belter deceived them with sales figures and did not pay them royalties. They were active from 1976 to 1982. In 1992, on the occasion of the reissue of their first two albums, the group came back together. They recorded two more albums and again separated in 1996.

In 2009 (and despite the death of guitarist "Uncle Modes" on November 1, 2004) the band reconvened until his farewell concert of 25 March 2010 on the Ramblas in Barcelona. This last concert became a tribute to John "Raf" Pulido, admitted to hospital the day before (his last performance on March 23) because of the disease he died on April 13, 2010.

Well, their debut is a healthy mix of good rock'n'roll with hardrockin' guitars/solos (most songs with a length of more than 3:00 minutes!!) and a nice touch of punky, sometimes chaotic moments. As I said: interesting band

BUTCHER - On The Ground 7'' 1982 + Stand & Fight 7'' 1983

First I wish two relaxing Easterdays and here is the weather once again extremely shit, gray, cold and rainy. That gives me time to post here in this theater, with a few beer, two small English nuggets. Frankly, I don't know this band so far although I can say that I am a UK punk beau and have heard quite a bit, but sometimes there is a rare piece that emerge from any hole and delight me: Butcher for example. Founded in Bournemouth/Dorset in the early eighties by Sid (Vox), Dave (Guitar), Col (Bass) and Rob (Drums) and they released in their short existance two 7Inches on Inept Products, a split with Riot Squad (1983) and two tapes, further represented on some compilations (worth mentioning

here the A Kick Up The Arse (1985), 77 Records Présente, Religious As Hell (1986) and Killed By Death # 1234 (2000) records). Musically I find they are not attributable to the typical UK sound ala Discharge or UK SUBS, no! - Butcher shine with perfect driving mid-tempo punkrock. On The Ground is for my taste a bit rougher as the Stand And Fight but with 'Killing Groups' they have a real catchy earwig recorded with excellent drums. Possible that the sound difference is due to the production but that I can't grasp. Well, scheißegal, both records are very good, four cool songs that cheer me up and I'm sure you as well. I think the band broke up in the late eighties or so and singer Sid is apparently sadly passed sometime, maybe you know more. A lot of text which is unusually for me.... enjoy!

LOVE A - @ Bonn/Harmonie 21.10.2015

Einen hab ich noch: Fantastisches Konzert von Love A, another German Punkband which convince with brilliant lyrics and perfect sound. Runs every day in my house and has always delighted us. Enjoy this soundboard recordings and don't miss their debut record LVCDM from 2010 (there you find more info). That's it for today, here follows a long break and have a good time.

Entweder/Zaunmüllerei/Toter Winkel/Der Beste Club Der Welt/100.000 Stühle Leer/Nutzlos Glücklich/Lose Your Illusion/Too Doof To Fuck/Der Tausendste Affe/Augenringe/Atomstrom/Stagnation/Windmühlen/Trümmer/Nachbarn/Valentinstag/Originell/Brennt Alles Nieder

KISSIN COUSINS - Halbtotsicher 1990

Passion, Desperation, Yearning, Fear, Love, Isolation, Hate, Insecurity, Questions, Compunction, Dizziness, Weary Of Life, Furious, Naked! - all this emotions described in ten fantastic songs by a certainly unknown band which may only know a few (even in Germany). Risqué debut record from Kissin Cousins, founded in Karlsruhe 1985 by Thorsten Neu (vox) and Thomas Weber (guitars), the rest comes from neighbouring Rheinland-Pfalz. Violin & Guitar band hopes and suffers. Loves or hate...nothing in between. I think as NotGermanUnderstandOne come the vibes not fully across which exudes the album perhaps shakes the fragile violin, the tormented vocals, the punky guitars, the catching bass and drums you through. And the cover (naked bunny) underlines all this unmistakable. Pretty top-heavy or? Haha.... Go and have yourself a beer and don't waste my time - Two other albums followed but in my opinion not as strong and emotional as HalbTotSicher. - Do with it what you want..

EA80 - Der Mord Fällt Aus (Live) 12'' 1989

Of course these men may not be absent at this 9.March. An obscure 12", recorded live at the Spot/Kassel 15.11.1989, pressed in an edition of 300 copies by a fan in the late 80s. Some voices say the sound would be shit, but for a unoffical record from EA80, and I know none which appear earlier, is this a relatively acceptable sound (all five songs from their first 7Inch, also what the fuck?). Comes with an insert what is also not usual for bootlegs and the artwork is nice too in my opinion. The 'full' concert was posted by Heinrich on his Einwegwelt blog but I know its offline... bad luck. So enjoy Mönchengladbach live and more stuff later.

TURBOSTAAT - Vormann Leiss 2007

With the third album Turbostaat crowned the outstanding 2007 for me and whenever I hear the Flensburger I be absent, I mean, I'm there where I feel home - arrived. Anyway, since the gig in Hamburg/Rote Flora 1999, the year they founded, I am infected, Turbostaat's latest release Abalonia runs every fucking day on my turntable because it is one of the best records they made, very gloomy character I mean, well they are currently on tour in Germany and always a visit worth, numerous moments have proved this and I won't miss them if they live in my area (soon at 23.03.16 in Wiesbaden). At that time I thought the boys went commercially because the record is somehow related to Warner Bros what sucks, but the album is an increase to its predecessor and has eleven excellent songs (Harm Rochel, Insel or Schalenka Hase). Sure, it comes better if you understand German, but the music saves this litte manko. This record was on every holiday with us..... try their debut Flamingo from 2001, this blows well too.

WIPERS - Land Of The Lost 1986

Happy Birthday my Love! I still miss you and the today posts are all dedicated to you.

Just like last year on this day, it is tradition to honor a band that has made punk rock history and their sound was always around us and the Wipers are my absolute favorite band from the States. I recommend to buy any other album without hesitation. Land Of The Lost (review) shows a new phase of the band. The songs are still strong but I miss a bit of the rough & snotty sound of the early recordings. Without doubt, the fourth album is another highlight with some energy and should be in every record collection. I guess that see some so. Also recommended Sage's two solo albums Straight Ahead and Sacrifice For Love. He played all acoustic, electric and bass guitar parts, only accompanied by a drummer. A great musician. Enjoy.

Now I have to do things I have to do today & I come back with some jewels. Watch out!

MORAL - And Life Is 1984

Just the right time to complete a lonely morning with this sound, and it's like a dream and one of my favourite SynthPop albums. Right now because I'm in the mood for, I know why .. Moral were from Århus and members are singer Hanne Winterberg, Guitarist Marco De Andreis and Keyboardplayer Ingolf Brown and what they here recorded is simply delicate. Hannes voice is so sweet and she takes you to any place in your heart. You might think I'm too romantic and yes, I am. Musically she is supported by driving minor keys and sawing guitars. Reminds me a bit of the English band Cranes which are also brilliant. Moral released their first songs on a tape called Dance Of The Dolls in 1981 and their second Whispering Sons in 1982 on Kubus Kassettes, two years later their only album on Arp Grammofon. 2007 came a sixteen song CD compilation on Karma Music out. I mean it's pity that only a few know this band and I unfortunately can't tell much about them but what I know is their music is heavenly and for me an oasis for a time-out from living. In this file are the whole album plus songs from the Whispering Sons tape. Try this.

SVÄTSOX - Bred In The Bone, Out In The Flesh 1984

In 1984, Svätsox made their second and final album on their home label 'Villa Zuit Moet Bluven' Records. Ruins was a little success and doesn't standing alone many years and this album has lost a bit attention in my opinion. The inescapable Dolf is again behind the knobs but the group has apparently been too influenced by new wave this time, it's kinda gothic-style and they could grow almost like tad of rock heroes. The reverb of the drums is undoubtedly mixed, the bass has little lost it's punky bite, and the songs are full with morbid echoes and I really like that sound, reminds me of the early UK post-punk wave stuff, even a trumpet has a brief appearance! - I think, this is an interesting 'romantic' album that I cannot always hear but in some moments it's okay. Svätsox broke up that same year.

HALLOWS EVE - Death & Insanity 1986

Before I became a punk I was with body and soul a Metalmaniac and saw a lot of good bands in the early 80s and had a lot of fun. My record collection was accordingly plenty stocked. And as Punk gets the upper hand I have given many of them away (today I would get a lot of Euros for). But a few goodies I still have and from time to time I listen to them and I will post it here. Last Sunday I ripped the second album by Hallows Eve which is in my opinion a damn cool one. Very melodic, good lyrics and with a cool sound, the guitars are not trashy, more punkier than on their debut. The singer does a good job and the songs are all very well played, my favorites: Death & Insanity, Lethal Tendencies, D.I.E. and Nobody Lives Forever, love this record. A few words about Hallows Eve: "Formed in 1983, Hallows Eve was a thrash metal band hailing from Atlanta, GA, whose first brush with notoriety came via the inclusion of their song "Metal Merchants" on the Metal Massacre #6 compilation two years later. Duly signed by the collection's parent label, Metal Blade, the group, comprised of vocalist Stacy Anderson, guitarists David Stuart and Steve "Skullator" Shoemaker, bassist Tommy Stewart, and drummer Ronny Appoldt, released their debut album Tales Of Terror, later the same year and then followed it with two more records (1986's Death & Insanity and 1988's Monument) containing competent but indistinctive thrash metal. By 1989, the band had folded but eventually re-formed in 2004 with plans to record a new, as yet unreleased, effort." (Thx to Eduardo) - Does that sound interesting?

V/A - No Name Compilation x5 1984

There are actually records which are nowhere listed, even on discogs, and the gentlemen are indeed always ready to archive all the fine platten or at least make it known. But folks here is a fucking rare one from which there is absolutely nothing to find on the net or anywhere else on this planet (that alone is amazing or?..as well the Åminne Punkfiesta LP), even the compilation itself has no name. That proves: modern music are for assholes, haha.... to be honest, I have really no Info about the bands or label but what I know for sure: five bands, twelve awesome goodies. Outstanding for me are Öronstörning with their two cuts, damn powerful ass-kicker, both at a length of three minutes (and that means something) and I wonder if they have more recorded, but even the other combos heat as well and make this album something special. I guess, it is easier to get a sperm sample of the pope as this record. Sweden fucking rules, no doubt, get the magic or burn in hell!

V/A - Rock Rally 1980

Don't know if this record comes out as a result of a song contest but it seems almost to be. There's a lot of letters on the back cover in French so I'm not sure but I think these tell the story about this record. Released via Lark Records and full with twelve rare goodies and I know only two of them, Red Zebra and Revenge 88. Musically is all what I call underground music right there and I particularly like the cover which was made by Joost Swarte, a dutch cartoonist and graphic designer. Pull up the tunes in and a have sunny Sunday.

V/A - Grito Suburbano 1982

An absolute number one Hardcore platte is this 'short' compilation from South America which appeared on Punk Rock Discos and became rightly several times re-released on CD and Vinyl. The Créme de la Créme of this genre is represented here, three bands, twelve killers. At the moment I hear lots of fast & aggressive music and with this record of course I can blast my fucking mind out (you will certainly agree)! It's not my rip, nevertheless, always a post worth. Infos about the bands in the net. Listen!

V/A - Vorwärts [Tape] 1987

Here's a tape which I bought during my civil service in Lüneburg 1990. Vorwärts is the first publication of the young Hamburg label L'Age D'Or and with bands from the so-called Hamburger Schule (named after a musical current in Germany during the 1980s and early 1990s. With some active bands and artists it is still present. It is encompassing elements from punk, grunge and experimental pop, and featuring intelligent lyrics. It established new grounds for the use of German language in pop music). Was interesting for me at the time, paid five DeutschMark and the bands are, of course totally unknown to me. But I find very interesting bands on it and a few manage to release one or two records and I bought a couple. The sound on this tape ranked from Pop, Alternative to Punk (no Hardcore) and is a nice listening. Overall, an interesting little gem exceptional HH music.

VAAVI - Hei Anne 7'' + Tytöt Hymyilee 7'' + Nimi EP 1980

It is March, hopefully it soon becomes warmer, Fuck Winter! Let's move to the glory days of early punk stuff with this cracker: Vaavi was formed in summer 1978, when ex-Uutiset ja Sää members guitarist Kari Hipponen and drummer Tommi Micklin joined forces with bassist Jari 'Iku' Viitanen from Jawa. The original vocalist Jorma Nurminen only stayed for a couple of months, but he was the one who came up with the name for the band. In spring 1979 they were one of the finalists in the new wave category of the Finnish rock championship competition, held in Seinäjoki. They only played a ten minute set and finished second, Ratsia being the winner. They released their first single 'Mihin Jäi Punk?' in 1979 on Rokit Records and in May they recorded a song for the Hilse compilation. The band's style is a classic 'romantic' melodic '77 punk sound and not inspired by the Ramones, as so many Finnish punk bands of that time. Vaavi found their own style from the beginning and you can hear that. The band released two albums, a couple of 7inches, many line-up changes were made and they played their final gig in 1988. On this record: Ilkka (vocals), Kari (guitar), Iku (bass) and Tommi (drums), all three pieces released on Johanna Records, eight superb tracks.
