V/A - Halt! 2023

All right! Now, after a long time, one more selfmade Compilation is coming and there are songs on a certain topic that I don't usually do, but this time it was a need for me and it's quite possible that a second one will follow. It's about society & people, and I took thirty-seven killers which I like and think, they're fit. This manipulated society that is trapped in those systems and marches along tightly without following their own emotions and demands, that others hate because of a pimple on their forehead and let themselves be fooled every day and are numbed by the guidelines that are presented to them. Frightening & Incomprehensible this mass social control... I'm so sick of them! Certainly not just here but everywhere and I guess you know what I'm talking about, you see it every day. Anyway, this is my small contribution from the WDM Records headquarters with a lot of help by friends. Enjoy!

C³I - Start 1988

From Hamburg comes this punk band called C³I which existed from 1985 to 1988 and they are part of an extensive family tree, in which time and again to familiar names from the history of Hamburg's punk rock scene encounters, Torpedo Moskau, Noise Annoys, Slime, etc. This is their only album with eleven lively punk rock pearls, the lyrics here held more personal and therefore not always easy to come across but that makes the band worth listening to. I have searched a long fuckin' time to get this record and it becomes very rare nowadays because a CD release is not to my knowledge in sight. So enjoy every note of this divine album.

NDT - Liebi, Liebi! 7'' 1984

Again in Switzerland and I think this is the last record which was released on Mad Records by NDT, Luzern-based band featuring ex-Crazy members and this rare single came after already releasing two classic records. Their debut album is a classic punk album with ten Schwizzer cheese tankards and I like dialect and this kind of noises from this country. In general, the scene there was very versatile: rock, wave, minimal-synth-punk-pop and obscure things came from the Alpine country and that makes it just interesting for me and at a gig in April 1983, Kursaal Bern they packed fifteen songs on their second album which is simply called 'Live' and the sound quality is of course quite brilliant and everytime I listen to I compare it with Pankehallen by Slime, fat-loud-clear-sound with so much energy (except the drums, sound better with the hamburgers). In Spring 1984 they recorded this 7inch and both songs are okay. On the B-side is 'Schwarzer Vogel' which already appeared on the live slab and here as studio version. In the same year came the end of NDT. And now: BVB-SGE, three points would be cool :))

KUSCHELWEICH - Ich Küsse Dich 1981

As I rummaged in my record box today I found this gem from the 80's. I thought that I must rip the record as well because I've heard this a long time ago. So tepid as the band name might suggest the group was not for me, even if they were not as provocative as Hans-A-Plast, not as cocky as the KFC or quite as subversive as Slime. Kuschelweich offered laughter and factual stories of everyday life combined with simple punk and Poprhythms. Here & there a 'Schlager' (Azzuro is Azuroh, Silent Night/Tief In Der Nacht) or television melodies (Bonanza).

DISASTER AREA - Die On Your Board 1986

In 1979, the later members were in the process of developing their skate skills on the concrete surfaces of the Berlin district of Märkisches Viertel, known as the ghetto. A trip to London with the Berlin Skate Club led to contacts with the punk scene. This resulted in the connection between skating and punk music for the band. In the winter of 1980/81 they began to rehearse as C&A (Chaos & Turmoil) in a boiler room. Under this name they played their first concerts with the Suurbiers (from which Die Ärzte later emerged) and die deutsche Trinkerjugend. In 1984 they were inspired by the "Loudest Band in the Universe" appearing in the series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and renamed themselves Disaster Area. In the same year they produced two tracks for a split single with the band Die Schlimmen Finger on the Berlin label Pogar. The debut Die On Your Board was created in just three days 1986 and after a record review in MaxiMumRocknroll, the band received more and more concert inquiries. In 1987 Disaster Area played for the first time at the skate contest in Münster, where they appeared regular since then. In 1988 the second album Back From The Reservation came out and is stylistically more influenced by hardcore punk. The song 'Skate Tonight' from the first single was also newly recorded. In 1988 Oli suffered an eardrum injury from feedback at the Skate'N'Roll Festival and left the band. Frusti became the new drummer, and Norman joined as second guitarist. In 1989 they took part in the Berlin Senat Rock Competition and made it to the finals.

In 1990, the third album Cut The Line came through Bonzen Records and the Ox wrote at the time: “Germany's Skate Punk Band No.1". This was followed by a tour with the Badtown Boys and a live album, recorded at SO36 in Berlin. Norman switched from guitar to snowboard and Domi became the new guitarist. Shred Ready is the band's fourth album and for the first time, metal borrowings were clearly heard in the music. The guitarist received a postcard from Marty Friedman of Megadeth with the words: “It Rocks! The fun of the Ramones with cool lead guitar, too. Keep up the good work! ". In 1994 Disaster Area played as the opening act for The Offspring and in December the same year made a ten-day tour through ten Berlin concert halls to mark its tenth anniversary. In 1996 Domi switched to the metal band Orth and Disaster Area continued as four piece. The new songs became much more melodic and the Powder EP was released the same year. The next album Slam Section was released in 1998 on the metal label Noise Records by Karl Walterbach. At the end of a tour with CIA (Ex-Slime) and several concerts with Millencolin followed. In 1999 Tom, who had previously played in Mr. Ed Jumps The Gun joined the band. Tom already knew Disaster Area back in 1984. He had played guitar on the split single for Die Schlimmen Finger. A tour with California punx The Line followed and for the 20th anniversary of the band the last album Forever was released.

RAZZIA - Menschen Zu Wasser 1989

Next, another German Punk classic from a band which I appreciate very much and has been with me from the start of my punk life: Razzia from Hamburg. My first encounter with the band was in 1988, together with Bad Religion, a sweaty affair, YEAH! - Founded 1979 by brothers Andreas (guitar) and Peter Siegler (drums) and Rajas Thiele (vocals). Completed with Sören Callsen (bass) and Frank Endlich (guitar). They were not a purely politically motivated punk band like Slime and in their lyrics they were all kinds of grievances often quite dark and cynical formulated and very aggressively implemented by Rajas in the early years. In 1981, the band were with two pieces on the compilation Underground Hits on Aggressive Rock Produktionen. It was followed by an engagement with the Hamburg label Weird System, which also brought out the first album Tag Ohne Schatten. A brilliant D-Punk record. Atypical for punk bands in the mid 80s Razzia used keyboards in their songs and the result is quite superb. Th second album Ausflug Mit Franziska is the perfect example of their musical development & diversity. I bought this record at a concert in the HH/Fabrik in Altona in 1998. On the 3rd album the band is more experimental, electronic beats, spoken vocals ('Stahlherz') and also the synthesizer again targeted use. Together with the morbid typical lyrics and the unique voice of singer Rajas was made a dark, multi-layered album with threatening parts and a dense atmosphere but always offensive. With this album the musical development was promoted again, thus Razzia stood out from the more traditional German punk of the 80's. Released on the bands own label Triton is this one of my favourite Razzia albums. The band is still active and you shouldn't miss them on stage.

ANGESCHISSEN - @ Hamburg/Störtebeker 21.12.1994

Here is an amazing live recording from Angeschissen, a Hamburg combo which existed from 1984 to 1988 and they were one of the influential and stylistic punk bands of the Hamburg scene in the 80s and consisted of: Jens (vocals), Christian (guitars), Daniel (bass) and Stephan (drums + vocals). Christian was guitarist of Slime from 1980 until his first dissolution, where he had played together with Stephan; he was also drummer of Torpedo Moskau. Both brought hardcore punk into the style that hit American influences like Wipers and Rites Of Spring. In addition to singer Jens, Stephan also wrote some of the lyrics. The musical style of the band can be described as powerful dirty snotty melodic punkrock which is, in my opinion, live more intense and dynamic as on plate. In 1987 they released their first EP 'Angst Macht Keinen Lärm' via Buback. A year later comes the first longplayer, Angeschissen, with twelve goodies out and it was exclusively as vinyl record released. Then the band was supported by the studio guitarist Atli Grund and a split slab with Rachut's second band Das Moor came out also in 1988, shortly after the band was carried to the grave. In 1997 the Hamburger label Schiffen released a double album with all the recordings, this time also on CDFollow-up projects by Jens were then Blumen Am Arsch Der Hölle, Dackelblut, Oma Hans and Kommando Sonne-Nmilch. So this is an excellent live document in a very good quality and I saw them a few times and I like to remember their great, impulsive and funny performances. Their only important compilation contributions are on the great Hamburg '88 album by Bitzcore.

CANAL TERROR - Zu Spät 1983

Next classic German Punk album is the debut record from Canal Terror and I don't know how many times I played this LP up and down: angry, aggressive, rebellious music which has nothin' lost of their rudeness. Founded 1980 in Bonn by Tommy, Volker and Dominik, 15 to 17 years old, in the following year 14-year-old drummer Rainer completed the band. 1981 published the first demo recordings and a Super-8 film on which they introduced for the first time their most popular song 'Staatsfeind'. In December, the band participated on the compilation Soundtracks Zum Untergang 2 (AGR). Canal Terror played this year their first concerts outside of Cologne and Bonn with Black Flag, Minutemen, Slime, OHL, etc... More demo tapes were released in the following two years. In December 1982 they recorded their debut LP, appeared due to differences with label boss Karl-Ulrich Walterbach, in the spring of 1983. Tommy left the band in 1983 after internal disputes and Rainer moved to the micro. Ex-Toxoplasma bassist Stefan came as a drummer. Frank Glienke ("KutA") was for a few concerts the second guitarist but left the band very soon. The group toured again with Razzia, Inferno, Neurotic Arseholes, Boskops, Die Ärzte, etc... and the recordings for the compilation Underground Hits 2 emerged. Again it come to quarrels and Dominik and then Volker left the band. The band continued until 1984 by Rainer and Stefan and with other members. On the Dutch sampler 'Babylon Bleibt Fahren' the song "Staatsfeind" was in a live version on it and shortly after this release the band split up for good. In December 1991 the band played in the original line-up a unique concert in the Biscuithalle/Bonn, together with Toxoplasma, Die Skeptiker and the British band Urge. In 1992 Red Rossetten Records released a CD with recordings of this gig under the title "Live In Bonn". AGR reissued without the permission of the band their first album in the 90's and so Canal Terror secured in a trial against AGR the rights to their songs. A Review: "Canal Terror produce diverse hardcore material on their debut album, including full-tilt thrash ("Multis," the title cut, etc.), Oi!-influenced stuff ("Bonn-Duell"), '77 punk with melodic guitars ("100 Mann"), reggae-punk mixtures ("Mallorca"), some cool Rock'N'Roll ("Hey"), and even a funnypunk version of "My Bonnie." The guitars should have been emphasized more in the mix, but this record is still entertaining as hell." - Jeff Bale (from MMR #8, September 1983) / That's the story so far, for me another major record which is second to none today.

CIRCLE JERKS - Live @ Fabrik/Hamburg 02.12.1987

Start today with a tape which I bought in Hamburg at a gig in 1990 I think. During my community service in Lüneburg I visit the second largest city in Germany because there was the action. The Fabrik is a cool location in Altona and I recommend you should have to go for a gig or something like that. A lot of good bands I saw there, Razzia, Dackelblut, Slime, etc... acute acoustic and always an excellent atmosphere. I think these recordings underline that a litte and let yourselves carry away. The Circle Jerks are one of my favourite US punk bands, always energetic and wild on stage. The sound quality is quite good and with over thirty-three songs, a decent mix of old classics and new songs, full with power and fun, ca. eighty minutes. Today Mr.Keith Morris toured with OFF! and you should stick your head in the sand if you didn't known. So I hope you like this post, was a small marathon for me (tape rippin' is truly a long mission).

V/A - Nazis Raus! 1991

More relevant than ever, see the current circumstances every Monday in Dresden, or remember this date 1938 in Nazi-Germany or the racist riots in Hoyerswerda in 1991. I can't understand how they can deal with such a stupid ideology that brought nothing except death and destruction. I guess it's easy to throw life away and lose dignity & respect when you only feel hatred. Life is not always easy but that excused nothing. The one-way thinking is modern and easy but to have an own opinion is really not hard. Maybe this compilation helps, released via Weird System, show nineteen bands that there is another way and encourage to think about yourself.... more relevant than ever!

THE BUTTOCKS - Fuckin' In The Buttocks 1985

The Buttocks were founded 1978 in Hamburg. The band played a very fast and aggressive style and I can cartainly say at this time the band was the first "hardcore" band from Germany, even heard by the Munich punkers. They released two awesome 7Inches via the legendary Konnekschen label and both are nowadays very sought. Most songs are sung in English. The Buttocks broke up in 1983. The drummer later played for Slime and Torpedo Moskau. Live they are in eyes and ears of many contemporaries the best Hamburg punk band ever. This record was limited to 1000 copies and contains a lot of rough and live material. Damn cool album!

NDT - Live! 1983

This time not a bootleg but an official album, the second and last of NDT from Lucerne and this rare record was taped on April 1983 in Bern. When I heard the slab for the first time I immediately thought of Slime's Pankehallen album but today I think it lacks the power of it a bit but that does not make it any worse. Fifteen goodies mostly from their first album in fantastic sound and charming intermediate announcements, I wanna know who supported them at that time, was certainly a great gig. Anyway, let's see if I can fill the month with more live stuff. Have a great weekend and now welcome NDT!

V/A - Hamburg '88

The LP one's I had to sell due to lack of money and bought after a long time again. Well, sometimes the good things just come back to one, how life sometimes is. Only rare tracks on this compilation of good Hamburg bands right here at the start. The pretty cover of Billy Bragg's 'My Youngest Son' from Legendary Nice Boys (Slime members) is worth buying this record. But also the other bands here are very awesome and the sound range goes from '77 punk, hardcore to a little bit slightly metallic tunes (100% Diskretion). Ingeniously the three songs from Omicidio and I think these are the only cuts they made on vinyl. Would really like to hear more from them but found nothin'. Emils, C³I and Angeschissen, three awesome bands which you can grab also in this theatre. So finally, Punk in 1988 was a time of change with variable fresh sound and I can only highly recommend this record and I promise you will be thrilled.

1.Kicks - DESTINATION ZERO
2.Keine Antwort - C³I
3.Noiseless Scream - EMILS
4.Sprung Ins Leere - OMICIDIO
5.My Own Life - 100% DISKRETION
6.Schwein - ANGESCHISSEN
7.My Youngest Son - THE LEGENDARY NICE BOYS
8.Legale Mörder - EMILS
9.Packen Wir's An - C³I
10.Finsterer Tag - OMICIDIO
11.Time Is Too Short - DESTINATION ZERO
12.Kill The Nature - 100% DISKRETION
13.Allein Zu Zweit - ANGESCHISSEN
14.Prince Of Hell - EROSION
15.Skeptischer Blues - OMICIDIO
16.Angesägtes Humpty Dumpty - 100% DISKRETION

ARM - The Victory Of Forgetting M-LP 1991

Hailing from Hamburg, this is the last record by this female fronted punk band called ARM. They agreed for this album the dutch label Konkurrel and they board here seven alternative/punk tunes through. I remember, I saw them in the Fabrik in Altona 1990 and their performance was pretty wild, particularly Danielle (vox) & drummer Stephan (Slime, Torpedo Moskau, Angeschissen, etc...) were extreme ecstatic as if there's no tomorrow. Maybe that this gig was their final one but I don't know for sure. Anyway, it was an enjoyable evening. From the power of their live show is unfortunately this record miles away. The songs bobbing a little bit uninspired and with no real highlight therefore the music raises me not out from my chair. The production is okay, artwork too and a lyric-sheet with it, so for this reason I give seven out of ten points.

HERMANN'S ORGIE - Die Moderne Welt & Andere Disharmonien 1980

Now a request from a very underrated band I think is this combo. Founded 1978 in Hamburg, members were: Clement Hülse (bass+vox), Jörg Holst (drums), Tom Meyer (vox+guitars), Christian Haimerl (sax) and they were one of the first to use German-language lyrics. They released two records, the 'Moderne Musik' EP in 1979, and their incredible debut album in 1980, both on their own Label Moderne Musik. The label Moderne Musik then went on to release other classic German language punk singles amongst others Slime and Napalm. Every song on this album impresses with its clear statement and bring the attitude of the band clearly expressed. Simple, directly and without ambiguity. A hearty renunciation to all those who make our lives difficult. And musically Hermann's Orgie keep the level high. Short fast songs mixed with a bit reggae and the saxophone shines as another solo & rhythm instrument, that confirms the two live songs at the end of the record. Check this Interview with bassist Clement from 2011 (in German) for more info. For me one of the essential D-punk albums by a really good band from the Waterkant.

V/A - Bloodstains Across Germany #2 1998

Last working day before my vacation, this year not in Crete or any Mediterranean region, thanks to fucking Corona, it's getting annoying and the new regulations even more. But what should we do? As long as research doesn't keep creating a vaccine, this shit keeps us back from free life and so is 2020 an extraordinary shit yearWell, let us better enjoy the loud dirty sound of the early wild punk days, so let's pull another fantastic Bloodstains compilation off the shelf and find Volume 2 with twenty-two German delicacies. Some songs overlap Volume 1 and why here again is a bit unfortunate, there are so many more rarities of German bands that they obviously haven't researched exactly. But I'm grateful that the detectives made the effort anyway... and you certainly as well. Now let the bands kicking, get this Friday quick behind us and looking forward to the weekend.

TORPEDO MOSKAU - Malenkaja Rabota 1984

TORPEDO MOSKAU were formed by former members of SLIME, TARGETS & NAPALM and their first apppear with two songs on the compilation Keine Experimente II which was released as well on Weird System, including famous bands such as EA80, Neurotic Arseholes, CHAOS-Z or CRETINS, and a song on the great Life Is A Joke Vol.2 compilation (international bands). The tunes by Torpedo Moskau reminds a little of Wipers and with their psycho-demanding lyrics the four Hamburgs drive at the usual beer & anarchy lyrics of many German-punk bands of the 80s by far. When i first heard the LP, it has me equally excited and for me a milestone in German punk culture. Includes all artwork.
