Saturday is my favorite weekday and in six weeks I finally have holidays, guess where I'm going? George-Havoc-Alevaras (vocals/guitar) Yannis Trumbetas (bass) and Fivos Pergaliotis (drums) formed Ex Humans in September 1982 in Athens and after a demo on Bluurg Tapes they released their only album on Enigma Records and this ten track slab is a damn h-bomb, an excellent harmonious teamwork of all three, great distorted guitar, driving bass line and variable drums, all in Greek and lyrics with a sociopolitical and anti-authoritarian verse. The Ex Humans were among the pioneers of the punk scene in Greece for their time, and along with other bands such as Stress, Panx Romana, Magic De Spell, were the causes of this scene, not accidentally considered as a band legend of the Greek punk scene, they disbanded in 1985. Awesome Stuff!

TRASTE & SUPERSTARARNA - Pengar 7'' 1979 + Space Race EP 1980
Weekend and let's welcome it with a two record file and five classics therein. Traste & Superstararna was a Swedish punk band from Bollnäs with six or seven members, formed as The Calefactorys in 1970. They later changed their name to Sally & The Crackers before settling on Traste & Superstararna (Trush & The Superstarlings) in 1975. Their first 7inch 'Pengar' came out on Mesrock and is a brilliant Swedish KBD cracker, the a-side pretty '77 and the b-side a kind of punky rock'n'blues ballade, slow and I think the lyrics must be funny because the song is called 'Traktor' and I think it's about a farmer who loves to drive his tractor, spitze! Space Race follows one year later on Mamma Records with three cuts. Equally worth listening to. 'En Liten Rebell' is here my favourite song. After this release Mamma put out their full length album and that's it. The band split up in 1982. They featuring on various compilations. Massproduktion released in 2007 a collection CD called 'Du Din Jävla Sopa' with all their classics and many prevously unreleased tracks. Overall two good records by another interesting band from Sweden and I'm pleasantly surprised. Both Thumps Up Baby!

GERHARD HELMUT - Unter Der Faust 7'' 1979
A totally unknown record to me is this rare 7inch. PowerPop I think is here to stay and I thank Reinhard for the following info: Graz-born vocalist (in the 1960's he fronted the Austrian beat band VAMPS) who moved to New York in 1969, but relocated to Hollywood in 1972 (to join glam Punks Shady Lady) with lone release recorded with RIPPER, but put out under his name with the help of Greg Shaw's Bomp imprint. ''Unter Der Faust'' (compiled on Shaw's UK-only 'Who Put The Bomp' sampler...) is a punk version of Rolling Stones' ''Under My Thumb'' with German lyrics (written by Vienna's Rolling Stones cover band Peter Schleicher... Dirt Shit used some of their lyrics as well) and the flipside was penned by RIPPER bassist Bobby Paine who was JOSIE COTTON's boyfriend back than and who went on writing most songs for her early LP's. Guitarist Jerome T. Youngman and drummer Quito Ecudor relocated to New York and started HOOKS. Don't miss Gerhard & Ripper live @ Rock Corporation/Hollywood USA 1975.

I dedicate my bloody nightmares the right soundtrack with this compilaion of rare Finnish punk singles (1977-1979) and nothing is more unpleasant to them. I find all of you and after almost forty-five minutes, I'm the winner, Yeah! You think tomorrow will be better for you? Never, because I have the best weapon: Punkrock!! - No matter what you do, it will always end the same. LES CORONADOS - Rien (Dont Je N'Ai Besoin) EP 1982
Four piece from Paris with their debut EP, called the Les Coronados and they had become cults during their lifetime. Born in the middle of the 70's in Limoges on the benches of the National Superior School of Ceramics, Bernard and Dominique (guitars), Yves (bass) and Berko (drums) land in the 18th district of Paris and the quartet will remain faithful to its neighborhood and its rehearsal cellar throughout its existence. The first EP including three sung in French and one cover of Alex Chilton recorded "at home" and is the only weapon of Berko who found a job & leaving the group. Dilip joined as new drummer and operates from the second 45t which came 1983 with again three French and a Beefheart cover. Their aesthetic garage sound seduced fanzines and free radios, Les Thugs and Johnny Thunders want them as support. In 1984 they released their first record N'Importe Quoi on Romance Records which confirms that the rock dandies have a wild elegance plus crazy talent. This doesn't prevent Dominique leaving the group without any explanation. So it's this formation and it tooks over five years to release the second and great album Un Lustre via Accord. Yet sales doesn't follow despite a rave press review and the band brokpe up. Recommendation: Paink (French Punk Anthems 1977-1982) compilation. And now enjoy four wild garage goodies and tomorrow the first semi-final :)

THE MONKS - Bad Habits 1979
This is a record I must listen twice before it gets me. Released on EMI, the Monks were an English punk band formed in the late 1970s, by former members of Strawbs - Richard Hudson, John Ford and Brian Willoughby, along with Terry Cassidy (vocals and synthesisers) and Clive Pierce (drums). The album spawned a number 19 hit single in the UK Singles Chart "Nice Legs Shame About Her Face". The song was originally a demo not intended for release and Ford later commented in Mojo magazine, that "it was a bit of a problem when it was a hit." They dabbled with 1930s style music in 1980 as 'High Society', before in 1981 returning to the pseudo-punk format of The Monks for a follow-up album released in Canada only called Suspended Animation. While the album failed to produce further UK chart success, the band were huge in Canada particularly and playing stadium gigs. 1982 the Monks were history. Read more about them by clicking thomasdarcymusic. Overall a nice album with a few hits and good guitars. The singer sometimes reminds me of Jefferson Turner/Cockney Rejects and the instrumental at the end is almost a beautiful piece of surf.
CORTEX - Spinal Injuries 1983
Cortex was a combo from Gothenburg and were active from 1980-1988. Front Figure and sole constant member was Freddie Wadling. He had a major role in the Gothenburg music scene and played in several bands, for example Perverts, Rukorna, Blue for Two (electro music), Lädernunnan (The Leathernun) and The Mobile Whorehouse. The band is today best known for the song 'The Freaks', who are featured in the film God Save the King. Cortex grew out from Freddie Wadling's former band Liket Lever and was called at first (from January 1980) Coma Jesus, but they quickly changed the name into Cortex. 1981 they released their first 7inch at Heartwork Records. The band was initially very punk-related but then more towards into a decent new wave sound. Today, however, the band counted as the most post-punk band. The band changed its constant members, and even their song material was wide. Cortex was initially on the label Heartwork Records, run by Henrik Venant in Lund during the first half of the 80s, but then switched to the Gothenburg-based Radium 226.05 label. Their legendary rare debut slab Spinal Injuries came out 1983 (recorded 1981) and offers ten cool punkish wave-rock-pop tunes, including the song 'The Freaks', their most famous creation. The band released a live album, plus two others, compilation songs (Abcess Exil m.fl.) and at the end of the 80s the band split up and has now cult status. Lovely piano, singalongs, fine guitars + great lyrics: A perfect Album!

A.B.H. & SUBCULTURE - The Oi! Collection 1998
Decent compilation from Captain Oi! Records, eight tracks from Lowestoft's A.B.H. and ten from Cambridge's Subculture. A.B.H. started in early 1981 with Pete (vocals), Chris (guitars), Nigel (bass), Tony (drums) and in the beginning they played easy covers of Damned and Sex Pistols tracks relying on speed and energy to substitute for ability and originality but even then they aspired to more. Quickly own pieces were written and interspersed in the gigs. Chris was replaced by Steven and this line-up remained for the rest A.B.H. Lots of Gigs were played and in July 1982 they recorded in Hillside Studios the first demo with four songs. One year later followed the second and these numbers had been written since the first demo and continued the proletarian theme and established sound. Problems had been building for some time and could no longer ignored; the band broke up at the end of 1983. Subculture originally formed in Cambridge in the early Eighites with a line-up of Better (vocals), Dean (guitar), Fall (bass), Matt (drums). Heavily influenced by the Cockney Rejects they made their vinyl debut on the "Oi! Oi! That's Yer Lot" compilation and then they secured a deal with Essential Records and issused the three track "Loud & Clear" EP (now a much sought after collectors item).
Have fun with the two and let's see what the three Lions are doing against Colombia.

NERDS - Peter, Paul & Carrie 7'' + 1 1991
I still have a quick one: the Nerds from Frankfurt were a three piece combo, Andi Social (vox/bass), Stephan (guitar/vox) and Felix (drums) and they released two 7inches via the Get Happy! label in the early 90s and I think of both 500 copies were pressed. The three played lots of gigs in the Rhine-Main area, especially in the Batschkapp they were a welcome act and with their powerful punk sound they always inflamed the crowd that it was a real pleasure. Wild, hectic and always catchy without end. Unfortunately never had so much attention that they deserved and so the band remained relatively unknown. Well, with a total of 1000 copies of both 7inches this was hardly possible or just not wanted and since I'm a dear contemporary, both are united in this file. Over & Out!
