V/A - Killed By John Peel #1 2020

Friends, there is hope again on the KBD front and after a long time finally a new compilation is out and the creators of Vatican Radio Records have the great idea "to conjure up one of the best punk rock compilations we've heard in a long time, from the amazingly rich vaults of John Peel's BBC 1 radio session recordings. Focusing on the less known side of the huge Peel Sessions catalog, Killed By John Peel comes stuffed to the rafters with mind blowing and little known gems from the opening track with French Synth Punk pioneers Métal Urbain and the incendiary recording of their hit E-202 to the closing with the kick ass Power Pop Punk hit She's Alarming by the Wasps, each and every single track on this monster record presents a band at their prime giving it all @ the legendary BBC Radio1 studios." And to my knowledge, Volume 2 is about to be release and we can look forward to it. Great stuff and absolute essential!

1.E-202 - MÉTAL URBAIN
2.Gangland Warfare - THE OUTCASTS
3.Antipope - KING
4.Yummy Yummy - RUDI
5.Jealousy - IDIOT DANCERS

RED LETTERS - Sacred Voices EP 1979

A very nice record and their only one (500 copies on Burning Bing Productions) by this three piece from the mining village of Newtongrange/Midlothian, formed in 1979 from the remnants of a punky anti-Nazi band called "Strange Writing" by Pud (vocals/bass), Ted (guitars/vocals), Jake (drums) and we listen to three cool tracks, the a-side with two 'short' blasts while the flip is a fabulous four-minute guitar orgasm. Check Punk77 for more infos and enjoy them with other allies on the Bloodstains Across The UK 2 compilation. Thanks to unknown for this nugget, forgot who sent it to me.

PATROL - Unknown Soldiers EP 2000/The Revolution EP 2020

December knocks, cold outside and the first snow has fallen, bäh!... better I let the warmth flow in with two rare brilliant 7inches and I'm glad to feed you with excellent infos about them: "The Fab Four come from the cultural centre of the UK - Leven/Methil and apart from playing music, they are heavily involved in drinking. Musical influences range from Marie Osmond to Donnie Osmond. Patrol will consider all offers of recording contracts and will accept donations gratefully. The band's main ambition for the future is to make lots of money." That's what Patrol said on the insert for their second demo cassette, "Another Fiasco", in 1982. The bit about the money came true when in January 1997 each member made £12.50 from a live gig! Patrol organised and played many gigs in and around God's Kingdom (Fife) throughout the '80s - with bands such as The Actives, Alternative, Crimedesk, Brain Damage and loads more. After a "break" in 1987 there was a brief reformation in 1992 for a party gig with another local band "Backlash". In October 1996 Patrol got together again and supported Canadian band The McCrackins along with External Menace. This led to several other gigs around that time. From 2008-2014 Patrol played many gigs in Fife, Dundee & Edinburgh with local bands. The last gig that Jock Hart played was @ the Rebellion Festival in 2012. After Jock left, Kyle McAulay took over on drums and played with the band until the final gig - the Tam Dignan Memorial on 1st February 2014. Patrol were a part of the punk rock scene in Fife for more than thirty-five years, during this time two tapes (1981+82), two 7Inches (2000+2020) and a compilation CD, Never Say Never (2011, which was only available to purchase at gigs), with twenty tracks of re-recordings of old favorites plus some new material, are their official releases, on compilations as well.

THREATS - Politicians & Ministers 12'' 1982

Classic debut 12" on Rondelet Records by this four piece called Threats with six loud smasher. A short bio from ReverbNation where you can listen to more stuff: "They started of life in 1977 as the Reflectors. Just 4 local lads from Dalkeith in Midlothian Scotland who had a collective interest in Music.. Jim and Gogsy were next door neighbours from when they were born and grew up together. Early memories were a great interest in all things guitar based. The bands that they grew up with were the glam bands of the 1970's. It was all based on Rock'N'Roll with bags of fun thrown in for good measure. (That rings a bell). Slade, T-Rex, Sweet, Mud, you get the picture. Then there was an almighty bang in 1977. The appeal was instant and immediately the need to play music was stronger than ever." So if you like what you hear I recommend a click on bandcamp where you can listen to a fantastic live release from 2019, so check it out!

THE EXPLOITED - Troops Of Tomorrow 1982

Continue with the next classic on wdthtc. The protagonists are Wattie (vocals), Big John (guitars), Gary (bass), Danny (drums) and Steve (drums on two songs) or simply The Exploited. This is their second album on Secret Records and what I meant by Slaughter is with this record completely the other way around. Sure, Punx Not Dead is a great album but this is far better. On the one hand the sound is much cleaner and more powerful than the debut and the songs are much harder and more catchy, the four have developed further and then to name the album after a Vibrators song (to be found on V2and to cover it excellently is a brilliant move. ' Fuckin' USA' is the hymn par excellence and my favorite song of the Scots, other classics 'Sid Vicious', 'UK82', 'So Tragic' or 'Germs', shine with dynamic hardness and are pure punk. The boys from Edinburgh been never better than here. There's one more record, War Now 12'', in the Blog but I can't find the file, DAMN FUCK! Anyway, now I'll have to buy some more Mythos and I know I'll get the 12'' soon. And now enjoy the noise making, chaos causing, government hating, rule breaking, unrelenting punkrock sound of the fantastic Four!

V/A - What Are You Doing About That Hole In Your Head? 1986

I don't know about you, but the hysteria over the Corona Shit gets on my nerves. I think all the measures, curfew, protective mask, cancellations are exaggerated, who knows what the Chinese were doing? What is certain is that they have triggered a pandemic and the European Football Championship will probably not take place this summer. Is that just a flu infection that made a lot of people die in a short time? The old and the sick are quickly affected and many die of flu, but this is normal because their immune systems is weak and society buys like stupid, that only makes clear how hollow they are and rely on the government and I think this brilliant compilation from Rot Records fits: What Are You Doing About That Hole In Your Head? Seventeen international nuggets for you to clear your mind... stay vertical!

V/A - Chiswick Aquaria 1978

Magnificent pub/punk compilation on this rare Italian issue with bands made at least one 7inch on Chiswick Records, the sublabel and forerunner of Ace Records, started in 1975 by Ted Carroll and Roger Armstrong, with its origins in a second hand 45 records market stall in London. They were later joined by record fanatic Trevor Churchill. Towards the end of the 70s, they were releasing work by a series of "Pub Rock" bands. It is now the punk, power pop and rock label in the Ace Records stable. Nine bands with fourteen songs from their early young & unspent days, some made it into big business, others disappeared into nowhere and some swam unfortunately away to the right scum. Apart from that, this is an excellent compilation, this is the expensive promo release, and still worth buying. 1980 came out a Spanish release called Chiswick Aquaria Collection with more label bands.

OI POLLOI - Unite & Win! 1987

Fantastic record on Oi! Records opens today the musical enjoyment and so you know when, where and why a bit info, not written by me: Oi Polloi are punx from Edinburgh that formed around 1981. Starting as an Oi! band, they are now generally more associated with the anarcho-punk genre. The band has become notable for their contributions to the Scottish Gaelic punk subgenre. The name probably comes from the Greek expression "Οι πολλοί" and it is a pun on the phrase hoi polloi meaning "the masses" or "the common people". The band has gone through about 50 members since their formation, and their only permanent member has been vocalist Deek, who has also been involved in Gaelic-language television. The band has included punks and skinheads. The members have been supporters of Anti-Fascist Action and Earth First!, and they use the motto "No Compromise in Defence of Our Earth," which is an adaptation of Earth First!'s motto. They support direct action in defence of the environment, hunt sabotage and resistance against racism, sexism, homophobia, fascism and imperialism. Countless albums and singles have been recorded since 1984, on numerous compilations, find a few...

V/A - A Country Fit For Heroes 1&2 1994

A very cool re-release is this pretty round disc and both records were originally released in 1982 and 1983 by the legendary short-lived English label No Future Records and we all know the classics. On these both compilations we enjoy some bands which didn't made a record and some published their stuff that is in demand today. On this sucker we listen to twenty-four passionate, angry punk bashers which I would like to have experienced in Top Of The Pops, haha... After releasing twenty-nine singles and nine LPs, No Future folded.

Splendid limited compilation from Rot Records and all tracks are unavailable elsewhere and the title can't be more appropriate. Sixteen nuggets that will not cause boredom, Guaranteed!

LAST RITES - This Is The Reaction 1984

A classic in the late evening and we're not talking about a caramel-cream-liqueur or five grams of exquisite white powder, no no no... this is a serious page, got it? Back to what I really wanted to say; the only album by the Last Rites, a four piece from Glasgow formed in Winter 1982, on Essential Records. Togehter with their two decent 7Inches (listen) and a few compilation goodies the band broke up in 1985. Fourteen anarcho-punk killer blasts have they recorded here and is for me without doubt one of the best records from the UK. Okay, two more days to the deserved weekend, bleibt artig!

Today I wanna shine with a few essential compilations and we kick off with a mini serie called Shake Some Action which bring us rare Powerpop, Mod & New Wave pearls from the late 70s to the mid 80's and each volume illuminates a special area of our wonderful planet and #5 is dedicated to the U.K. and Ireland. The whole thing is really put together with much love, as well the detailed booklet with all infos about bands/songs. I give 10 points out of 10 and it's damned important that such discs are dug up by fiery doers, Thx!

SKIDS - Sweet Suburbia 7'' 1978

Back to the good ole days and let's enter Scotland and meet the Skids, a four piece punk/wave band from Dunfermline/Fine, founded 1977 by Stuart Adamson (guitar, keyboards, percussion + vocals), William Simpson (bass + vocals), Thomas (drums) and Richard Jobson (vocals, guitar + keyboards). Well, this is I think their second 7Inch with two nice powerful mid-tempo caramel biscuits and I won't tell more because there's so much words about the Skids present... and this is just a little life sign today.

V/A - Neighbour Annoyer 2000

Another almost decent unofficial compilation with original Punkrock from the vaults 1977-1982 comes to the door. Sixteen powerpop/punk classics and the selected songs move from extremely cool to superfluous. I mean, a few fillers there which bother me so I sold this record without further ado. Well, who knows me knows what I need, I'm a spoiled bastard, haha..Pluspoints I give for the nice artwork with all the informations on the back. Naja, scheißegal, pull the slab in and decide for yourself and three points picked in Cologne, Yeah!!

ORANGE JUICE - Blue Boy 7'' 1980

Second single by this combo from Glasgow on Postcard Records. Orange Juice was founded in the Glasgow suburb of Bearsden as the Nu-Sonics in 1976 and they released four albums and a dozen 7Inches. At home in melodic new wave sounds and they deliver here a solid record which warms me now on this cold sunday (was also a long fuckin' time on the Wanted-List)Somehow I'm extreme sluggish and dull today. Anyway... maybe later more

V/A - On The Street 1984

This awesome and rare compilaton was released by Sane Records and they give out one of the best UK Punk records ever (I mean it). This album features eighteen nuggets by British punk bands in their original demo form taken from the bands studio-recorded master tapes: "The idea behind Sane Records is to give "undiscovered" bands a chance to be "on disc" so that their music can be heard by people who wouldn't normally hear it, also all of us." Brilliant attitude and I wish more non-profit labels would do the same. The song selection is quite fantastic and the rough and dirty sound kicks in every way. I think there were not much copies pressed so catch one when you have the chance. Essential stuff!!!!

1.Why? - PRIMITIVE

WAYWARD SKYLABS - Think About It EP 1981

Moving to Scotland and visit a short-lived combo from Dumfries (south Scotland) that played Mick's Club in Carlisle a couple of times. They recorded the Think About It EP at Northrock Studios in Carlisle early 1980 on the Noisy Campers label. This rare piece of plastic is a four track low-fi killer record which deserves the name kbd more than other useless shit and is surprisingly extremely melodic, especially the bass drives the rhythm forward and at last great lyrics. There's a lot of infos in the file from one member of the band and I can't say where I have found this. Anyway, you can find them on the England Belongs To Me #2 compilation and this only record is a nice litte gem from the Anti-Brexit area. Enjoy!
