WANDA'S - A State Of No Mercy 1986

The rattle-punk of Wanda's first few years transformed into decent rock music, as can be heard on A State Of No Mercy, a statement of freedom and tolerance. The band changed line-up several times with a core of three women and on these recordings men are playing in Wanda’s as well and the studio line-up on this brilliant album were Joseé (vocals), Frank (guitar), Jan (bass), Christiaan (sax), Arie (drums) and this is their second and final full-length. The sound has gone from a rougher dirty fuzz sound to a much slicker Siouxsie influenced feel. What hasn’t changed is the lyrical radicalism, still inspirational. The Punk roots, however, remained unmistakable. "And we mean Punk as it was played as a music movement in the first years of its existence: straight forward, with a lot of melancholy humor, full of energy and nicely heavy. The sound of the early days was given a fat layer of metal and crossover: low flying guitars, solid woodcutter drums, driving bass and the menacingly low vocals. The first album (The Ideal, 1979) was about the ideal woman, the cover was phenomenal: all the members' faces had been shuffled & taped together, the music is definitely rammelpunk. Beautifully adolescent and recorded on a four-track recorder in the legendary Joke's Koeienverhuurbedrijf".
There are combos where the change from "amateurish" sound to melodic & powerful vibes works and in my opinion, the ladies and gentlemen from the Netherlands did it excellently. Wanda's was often described as 'Girl Punk'. A strange title, because what does that sound like? Music is always described in terms of style; each style has its own niche. But when it comes to female musicians, you're suddenly classified based on your gender instead of your music. In 1989 the band performed for the last time with a grandiose farewell concert at the Korsakoff in Amsterdam. Well, I like this record and I highly recommend the download, my dear visitors.

TRÖCKENER KECKS - Nie Alle Meisjes Zijn Verliedfd Op Kors EP 1982

Or "Not All Girls Are In Love With Kors", a clear statement and so we swing into this excellent second EP by Tröckener Kecks from Amsterdam with three lively numbers. When it comes to releasing records, the band worked according to the 'Do It Yourself' principle and up to and including 1987, records are released independently, so also with this small piece of wax full to the brim with hearty enjoyment. From 1983 another guitarist was added and gradually, the band's sound shifts to that of a mainstream rock band; and that is remarkable at a time when many bands opt for the fashionable new wave sound. Numerous albums and singles followed and the band has become one of the most popular in the Netherlands.

V/A - Powerpearls Vol.4 1999

You certainly weren't waiting for this compi, because it's no longer a rarity in Blogland, but I almost forgot that I have a few of my own rips from this great Powerpearls series, which I wouldn't want to withhold from you. Part IV is again full with rarities of the years 1977-1981 from around planet earth and as always, the bar is set decently high because the originals are as rare as snow in July (North & South Pole area not considered). What should I write next? It's great, that are people who probably have enormous costs associated with such projects and share their collection with us mortal music freaks and therefore have the will and consistency to implement this, pull it through and let us be part of this undiscovered music & bands. I take my hat off and I share a beer or two with those, cheers! Song selection is superb and I'm going off to the weekend and look what comes next.

V/A - P.E.A.C.E. Compilation 2LP 1984

I don't think this excellent release in form of a double record set can be more topical, and as we all have to realize, mankind hasn't gotten any wiser even after almost forty years. There is always some aggressor somewhere who expresses its sick ideology with lies and blind helpers and it is appalling that no diplomacy, no system, and no sensible compromise can prevent a violent confrontationPathetic, disappointing & lifeless all the pursuit of power and heroism. About the record: "This massive international Hardcore/Punk compilation features fifty-five bands/songs and was organized and released by the infamous MDC on the band's own label R Radical Records. The worldwide hardcore scene was at its peak at this point, still underground enough to repel corrupting outside influences like major labels and heavy metal, but already hardened into a rigid aesthetic and political dogma that often encouraged groupthink and musical conformity. P.E.A.C.E. documents the state of "Reagan-era" Hardcore, just before the popularity of extreme music spread through decidedly non-radical camps and into the mainstream. Among the fifty-five bands on board are well-known plus the best tracks by courtesy of obscure groups of the local scenes from Argentina, South Africa to Japan. Most of the bands included retain, either through design or some bizarre quirk of ineptitude, a stamp of individuality on their sound that makes this an entertaining collection.

An extensive booklet insert is packed with political rants, cartoons, and suggestions for further reading, making explicit the double-LP's theme of activism and action against a corrupt authority. Plus, each band is provided with a full page to express their ideas (and plug their wares) with printed lyrics and crudely effective collage art. Reissued on CD in 1997 by New Red Archives with bonus cuts." (Fred Beldin) - A real highlight of an international gathering that shows how it can work.

FORD'S FUZZ INFERNO - Flog Yourself With Fuzz EP 2022

Bridging the gap between distorted garage-punk and early '80s hardcore, the super explosive second EP by this fuzzed-uit Dutch guitar-and-drums duo is certainly one of the most impressive releases of 2022. "Hans & Patrick are back with hard hitting, hi-energy Punkrock, recorded specially for your hungry ears! This time around all the songs are about super enjoyable things, like the apocalypse, mental health issues and Mr. Hans’ and Mr. Patrick’s favourite pastime, demolishing other people’s property. Have you ever done that? It’s great fun. You should really give it a try! But before you start smashing windows and kicking dents into cars, play these four songs as loud as possible. They will put you in the exact right mood!" And that's right folks; on this record they are more melodic, more playful and more mid-tempo, but still catchy and with the typical fuzz sound. I really like it and I can highly recommend this band to you, Ford's Fuzz Inferno is playing PunkRock and doesn't just talk about it and deniers will be executedTheir third strike will follow in April and a compilation CD with all Fuzzies is also being planned, so keep your eyes, ears and brains wide open. Two reviews: "They have kept the quality, with another collection of fast, catchy, melodic hardcore songs. Just need two things from the guys now, A full length album and some live shows in the UK!" (Issue Punkzine #117)

"A release with short high energy tracks in the Ford’s Fuzz Inferno punk tradition: unpolished DIY noisy punk rock’n’roll. It comes with a good sound quality and again with a simple white and black medieval artwork. Too bad it's over before you know it." (Out Of Step - Fanzine/Blog February 2022)

Your weekend's nice & with this EP it will be even more sweeter, ask your partner!

V/A - Planet Punk #4 2005

Second and last part of Planet Punk and with Volume 3, this little self-made series is already complete. H2D#26 is another tidbit full of rare stars from international bands that are still kicking ass, much in demand and popular in our fucking disillusioned times which bring little decent music to light in my opinion. Music is like inventions, there is nothing innovative that can really impress me, hardly any wow factor or thing that I can really admire. And I would say that for almost twenty years. Speaking of music, we all hear & see the so called "combos" thrown together, the TV shows which offer only shit and are played over and over by radio stations, all this crap is boring, repetitive and only geared towards profit, commercial shit and really sucks. It's really intoxicating to get acquainted with such music as on this further fantastic compilation and to eke out an existence far away from this dead & dull society. That are the words for Sunday, Amen! Enjoy the vibes of the good ole days!

V/A - Bloodstains Across The World #6 2019

Oh Yeah, the last across the world Bloodstains to date and how we can move into the mood for the weekend more splendidly?... right, drinking with good friends, telling stories and hang out. There are supposed to be 100 copies and like the previous ones, #6 was created by the same detective. All songs are at least decent and some have already appeared on other compilations. What bothers me a little is the poor loveless artwork, very cheap card sleeve and no info about the bands except year of release and their country of origin... but enough grumbling. I have to hurry to catch the train and two beautiful days lie ahead with lots of Backgammon, beer, music and Happi Happi, Cheers!

V/A - Powerpearls Vol.1 1998

🎸 In spring, I wowed you (and me) with another great collector series that some detectives created in the late 90s and this beauty focuses on PowerPop rather than Punk though a few goodies featured wouldn't be out of place on a Punk compilation; We're talking about the Powerpearls Explosion and each Volume has a healthy serving of the best from this genre (those were Hans Knut Hohlhand's words, an avowed four chord lover whose inspiration brought many hermits together to form great bands). Decent selection for the first part in my opinion and the eighteen time travelers shoot you into the weekend, and I'm sure that even the annoying corona virus will shrink back on this foamy wave and shut up for a while. 🎸

1.Everyday, Everyway - REALLY 3RD'S
2.One Out All Out - STRAIGHT UP

V/A - Beautiful Music For Beautiful People 10'' 1990

A tasty 10Inch compilation from Amity Records which was released in seven versions. Ten bands from every corner of the world show their skills to the best and their sound varies from solid punk pieces with a slight metallic hardcore touch. Some of them are well-known and some of the rest are only here. Comes with a decent booklet that is unfortunately missing, anyone useful scans for me? In short, thirty minutes of interesting music whose time you can take without regrets.

BIZON KIDZ - Get Your Kicks By Throwing Bricks EP 1981

The icon of Punk (Sex Pistols) had just disbanded and in England nobody cared anymore about rebellious young people with a preference for hard three-chord music. But Punk has proved to be a keeper to this day, both in terms of music style and attitude to life in the Netherlands and had just started in 1978 in many cities, including Utrecht (of course the hype which started 1976 in England & the U.S., had not gone unnoticed by the Netherlands before 1978.) On January 7, 1977, the Pistols performed @ Paradiso in Amsterdam and Iggy Pop scored a top forty hit with Lust For Life. The fierce and primitive sounds of such as the Ramones, the Clash, Sex Pistols, etc... had a great influence on Dutch musicians. This sound might be alive and kicking in Utrecht, but there weren't many places to play. Bizon Kidz were one of those bands that were founded in the late Seventies by Bertie & Ilonka (vocals), Oscar & Philip (guitars), Buffel (bass), Frans (drums) & released their only piece of cake on their own (500 copies) in the early eighties. Ten minimalist short songs with two-part singing are offered that can easily harmonize with the pleasant November sun, not bad at all!

FORD'S FUZZ INFERNO - Deniers Of Fuzz Will Be Executed EP 2021

So dear folks, brand new stuff from the Waste environment and I already warned you that the follow-up band of Hans will record explosive material and today the wait is over and I can tell you: Simply Brilliant! A bit basics: "don't you just love these awesome punk tunes?! Then singalong with Mister Hans (vocals/guitars) and Mister Patrick (drums/guitars) and bang your fucking head to their lyrics, mostly about your stupid, hypocrite, pseudocorrect parents and all those other mindless consumers who have messed up our planet and now blame others. Fuck Them!" This is the announcement of Ford's Fuzz Inferno. They have recorded some totally awesome, completely fuzzed-up, ultra crushing punk nuggets for you and if any neighbor should complain, hit him on the skull with the plate. A review: “This is immediately catchy and likeable, proving you don’t have to reinvent the wheel to make something great. There is a timeless quality to these songs, and each concentrated capsule of punk joy sounds like it could have been written any time during the last fifty years. Highly recommended.” (MRR #461 - Oct. 2021) - I can hardly add anything to that, fantastic record from a combo that knows how to express itself brutally and implement this in an excellent sound. Fucking Great! B.T.W., a second EP will come soon, the release date is 17th January 2022, and you can already pre-order this via their bandcamp page. 🎶🎸🎶

V/A - Punkrock From Holland 1996

Monday is the fucked up day of the week and it's a splendid choice to start the week with a decent compilation (unofficial) by outstanding Dutch bands with rare blasts + every fucking song is worth hearing. 100 copies each on blue, clear and orange vinyl and a bunch on black vinyl (my copy). A slab that doesn't hurt anyone, because it only contains long-forgotten classics from the late seventies and the spirit of the songs still packs a punch and the feeling captured in these recordings are as relevant as ever. Sound-wise, it's not the killer production, but that's how it was at the end of the seventies and the beginning of the eighties, raw & simple. Frenetic recordings and you won’t feel alone anymore, interesting and effective.

1.Sex - FILTH
2.Nothing For Me - FILTH
3.Facist Fuckers - NEON PUNKZ

WASTE - The Lost Tapes EP 2021

Now to a damn hot record which I'm very happy to present to you, and which comes straight from the band's headquarters, sent by Mister Hans personally and exclusive for wdthtc! "Daar ben ik heel dankbaar voor en wil je eerst mijn hartelijke groeten, maat 💓" On this little slab are five fast fantastic uncompromising, unpolished killers who exude pure energy and I like them immediately after the first note, the level is consistently kept high and brings the emoitions of the early 80s into your four walls, I have seldom heard such great stuff from the neighboring country... and I mean it, folks! Tasty infos from the backcover: "These five tracks were recorded between the summers of 1981 and 1983 at the band's practice room, which was located in a monastary in Oudenbosch, a village in the south-west Netherlands. Waste consisted of Nonkel RR (vocals), Hans (guitars), Klaus (bass), Fred (drums). Back in the early 80s they played at venues all over the country, including Paradiso in Amsterdam. Their sought after History Repeats EP was released by the Breda-based Miranda label in December 1982. Now, almost forty years later, the band's modest discography gets expanded with this new EP of rare, archival material. The sound is primitive, raw and totally awesome! WARNING! This is truly scorching hardcore punk! So for your maximum listening pleasure, play this slab as loud as possible!" Limited to 300 copies and I guess, all already sold. Good news at the end, Hans and Patrick founded a new band called Ford’s Fuzz Inferno and they recorded some totally awesome, completely fuzzed-up, ultra crushing punk goodies and a new record Deniers Of Fuzz Will Be Executed EP was made and is available from June 30th via their bandcamp site. Enough with words, let the music into your house and let it rip at full volume and several times in a row.

V/A - Powerpearls Vol.3 1998

Uhh, damn exciting match yesterday at noon with a well-deserved victory for the SGE, the Champions-League is within reach. Now to the announced killer. In the nineties a wave swam over us with unofficial compilations that came up with rare punk classics of the early wild days, the well-known and certainly the best of them are the Killed By Death and Bloodstains series. But there is another interesting third: the Powerpearls series. Just as brilliant and significant contribute to resurrecting lost 7Inch nuggets and getting in touch with bands that nobody or only a few know these days, and whose music kicking just as much as the snotty punk buddies. My focus was more on the first two's and I didn't even know PowerPop that time, but now I like this genre, makes me feel positive and radiant, and it's close rooted with punk and sounds charming and lovely either. There are ten Volumes of these available, most at expensive prices, some with colored vinyl. So keep an eye out for them, it's definitely worth.

1.Bank Holiday Weekend - SEVENTEEN
2.Make The Rules - THE ORBITS
3.Crazy Today - UXB
4.Who's Gonna Tell Mary? - THE MOONDOGS
5.Tapan Aikaa - PROBLEMS?

MORNINGTON CRESCENT - Still Shocking 2012

Now it's getting loud & fast and one more combo which I had no sound to date. This compilation includes all their recordings plus unreleased material and was released through Gummopunx Records in a limited edition of 500 copies, 300 on black vinyl and 200 on green transparent. I'll feed you with a few basics from discogs: "Faster than the Dickies, cheaper than Albert Heyn, more shocking than Dallas" (from their 1982 tape cover). Taking their name from a London underground rail station, Mornington Crescent formed in December 1980. After a few lineup shuffles, they first settled on Stan (vocals and guitar), Erik (drums), Jasper (bass). Soon adding Emile as their second guitarist, this raw hardcore band from Amsterdam recorded their first demo in May of '82 simply entitled Cassette 1. By 1983 they were joined by a new singer, Hans, whose distinctive gruff vocals can be heard on their first and only record, the self-released EP Greetings From Amsterdam. Apparently the band did not play live often, and although a track from the EP appeared on a flexi given away with Chainsaw fanzine in the UK, little more was heard of them after 1984." I am pleasantly surprised and like the record, recommended!.

OUTRAGEOUS - s/t LP 1984

A Dutch band completely unknown to me, who made three albums in the 80s, everything on their own and the five-piece named Outrageous consisted of Eric (vocals), Ruud & Niall (guitars), Bardo (bass), Frank (drums) and more info is not available. What I found is this: "Eric quit the Nitwitz and joined this Amsterdam band. The band belonged (with the Boegies from 1982) to the pioneers in the field of playing fun punk. Their debut album was especially popular abroad. Jello Biafra hailed the album in the fanzine Maximum RockRoll." And this review: "Not a thrash album, but a good old-fashioned punk LP. Holland’s OUTRAGEOUS displays a fast, heavy, two-guitar punk attack with strong hooks on most of this record, but they also play occasional poppish ditties (like “Beziers”), rockabilly thangs (“British Bikes”), or thrashers (“Say Cheese”) to mix up the stew and keep things interesting. I found myself happily singing along with many of these tunes, which is as good a recommendation as most." (Jeff Bale, MRR #16, August 1984) - I think, they do their job very well and fourteen songs in just under thirty minutes provide relaxation.

- Great Thx to Fredrik -

WASTE - History Repeats EP 1982

Einer geht noch und wir besuchen unsere Nachbarn im Westen und finden Waste with their sole record and this four piece consisted of Nonkel RR (vocals), Hans (guitars), Klaus (bass), Fred (drums), released via Miranda Records and it's a real nugget. It's really amazing that they are nowhere present on one of the relevant compilations, you know which one I mean. A short review by Pushead: "Swirling guitars, spinning fast psychotic grinds of explosive vigor. Enter Waste from Holland, yet another approach to quick demanding hardcore and punk, completely different than Agent Orange or BGK. Waste is aggressive; an onslaught of butchering mayhem bolts you to the electric chair with schizoid charges of outrageous fury." Well, I say the boys recorded four excellent songs and they sound more like early UK punk. Cool one 👍

THE VULTURES - At Home EP 1981

Now a rare piece and the original EP was released via RCS and they recorded this 4 track killer in 1981 that overtime has became impossible to find. Which is a shame as it is simply a masterpiece of Dutch sounds. Le Vida Es Un Mus got fed up and decided finally in 2015 this official reissue, another one the scarcest Netherlands records that was listed in the top 25 European punk rarities in Record Collector. The Vultures hailed from Epe, in the middle of the Dutch Bible-Belt and they're loud, proud and snotty, the sound is based around a trademark chainsaw guitar tone, plodding bass, passionate vocals and overall a clear UK influence. Without doubt if this band was english they would have been on Riot City, Secret or Rot Records or seen supporting relevant UK bands. Short lived but great, also found on some major compilations.

ROTJOCH - Bad Boy 1981

Now a catchy record from our friendly neighbors: Rotjoch was founded in 1978 by singer/songwriter Ronald "Rebel" Welgemoed (vocals/guitar), Juan (guitar), Pim (bass) and William (drums); the band released its first single "Tomorrow" in 1981 on Polydor. It became a small hit in the Netherlands. Later that year they released a second single "Bad Boy" and an album with the same name. The album became a milestone in the powerpop genre. Although the single Bad Boy didn't sell many copies it became their most popular song after it was released on the album Powerpearls Volume 5 in 1999. In 1982 they released a third single "Baby Baby Baby" under the name Rebel on the French label VIP-Records. It didn't sell very well either but is now very popular amongst powerpop collectors, due to its rarity. A short time later Rotjoch split. Ronald kept on performing as Rebel and released two albums, "You're Already Listening" in 1989 en "The Morning Sun" in 2007. A few years ago Ronald tried to organize a Rotjoch reunion but it was very hard to get them all together at the same time. He recorded some new songs with leadguitarist Pim Bilderbeek that may be released in some time but the reunion didn't work out. Ronald had written a lot of new songs for Rotjoch so he decided to start the new Rotjoch with some new members which he met at local jamsessions, Juan Carlos Gieling on guitar and Pim Meester on bassguitar. He asked drummer Bryan Hahury, with whom he was playing for about four years in the band Crosstown, to join the band. Together they recorded four songs in the Bandstart Studio in Naarden, The Netherlands. Two of those songs are released on a single, "Sexy" and "Say No More". Some new songs are recorded now with a new drummer, William van Veenendaal. They are released on an EP containing the songs "Nobody Knows", "Silly Questions", "Odd Or Even" en "We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore". Then they recorded twelve new songs in the Dubcellar Studio with technician Robert Curiel. The songs are now on the album "Here To Stay" that was released in April 2019 by record company Helena Music Records. You can listen to the album on our audio page. All the songs are mastered by Kevin Metcalfe, known for his work (among others) with Bowie, Queen and The Who. On our shop page you can find links to sites where you can buy or stream our album. Rotjoch recently released the (down-load only) single "Night Winds" coming from the album "Here To Stay"
