TRÖCKENER KECKS - Nie Alle Meisjes Zijn Verliedfd Op Kors EP 1982

Or "Not All Girls Are In Love With Kors", a clear statement and so we swing into this excellent second EP by Tröckener Kecks from Amsterdam with three lively numbers. When it comes to releasing records, the band worked according to the 'Do It Yourself' principle and up to and including 1987, records are released independently, so also with this small piece of wax full to the brim with hearty enjoyment. From 1983 another guitarist was added and gradually, the band's sound shifts to that of a mainstream rock band; and that is remarkable at a time when many bands opt for the fashionable new wave sound. Numerous albums and singles followed and the band has become one of the most popular in the Netherlands.

THE UPRISE - One By One EP 1988

Looks like a typical Oi! record but that's isn't the case. The Uprise were a Hardcore/Oi! band from Morrisville, formed in 1986 by Skinny Jimmy (vocals), Scott (guitars), Matt (bass), Rob (drums) and disbanded two years later. In their short life-span they released two demos and this nice EP via Oi! Core Records with four fantastic killers. An apt review from Threatening Society fanzine I would like to quote: "Oh No, Skinheads!" is what you’re probably thinking. But these guys are different. They’re really nice and they’ve dedicated to the scene. And their EP rips, to boot! They’ve really improved, and their melodious sound comes across incredibly well. They’ve also matured a lot lyrically. Very positive lyrics (despite the titles), especially in “Destruction” where they plead for unity. Now that legitimate reason has called it quits, the Uprise seem to be the most promising band here in Philly, Watch for them! [MICKEY, Threatening Society/Issue #7, circa 1989] - They're featured on a couple of compilations, mostly on cassettes.... and that's it for today.

ØRESUS - Ansikt Til Ansikt 1983

Øresus was a Punk/New Wave band from Skien and existed between 1979 and 1983. The band started under the name Mikey Mads Band and released two 7Inches and one album (Uncle Remus Records) during their lifetime. Øresus consisted of Jan Ove Lorentzen (vocals/guitar), Pål Lillefjære (guitar), Frode Wara (bass) and Ragnar Køhn (drums)Galt Et Sted was the great debut 7Inch on Øreplater, followed by the second one Mannen I Badekaret in 1982 before the album came out in 1983. All were released on the band's own record label. Musically, the band developed from ska-inspired Punk via more aggressive sound to gloomy new wave inspired by Joy Division. They disbanded in the summer of 1983 when Lorentzen moved to Bergen, where he was part of the Radio Phantoms. The rest of the members have all been in several bands, Frode has played in Electric Gangsters, Fructdrops, Tracemen, Svarte Faen, and Ragnar in Paal & Paal Band. Øresus is one of very few bands from the period that has a reunion and plays concerts here and then. Ansikt Til Ansikt has ten catchy powerful candies that come across amazingly professional. Nice Record!

V/A - Maanalainen Vuosikerta 1989

Yesterday DFB Cup final and again very exciting and with a happier ending for RB Leipzig. I stuck with Freiburg, but they underinvested after half-time and Leipzig really showed a strong performance with ten men. Congratulations on the first title. Next week's CL final, which is sure to be just as exciting. - Another rare compilation, that I've been looking for a long time and finally able to purchase a few years ago, was released on the Finnish Stigma label in 700 copies. In addition to well-known virtuosos, there are bands that haven't hardly made much appearances, but they're a solid contribution and their musical variety makes this slab a little masterpiece. And that's exactly what I like, and I love to discover the unknown, like a researcher. In addition, an A4 booklet with lyrics and presentation of each participating band, thus an excellent investment, with heart and soul. And all this included. Nice release with interesting music/bands and worth getting.

V/A - Give Us A Future (TR Compilation) 2018

Wednesday's emotions have largely subsided and things continue as 'normal'. A while ago I took a look at the Turkish Punkscene and this nice compilation on Wargasm Records, which came as a tape out, gives us an interesting overview of bands that are currently active and some that are already history. The bandwidth of the songs is consistently variable and anything but monotonous. All I can say; eighteen solid tracks in excellent quality and in my opinion this piece deserves a vinyl release. Certainly a challenge to establish yourself as Punk in this country, as well as to get performance opportunities that are definitely hard to come by, I guess. That's why it's important to listen and come in touch with this underground scene and, if you can, provide adequate support. Very good release!

BETON COMBO - Sound Ltd EP 1983

I can still do one more post today and this combo doesn't need many words: straight forward, verbally & musically aggressive and in every way not remorseful, if I can say it soBeton Combo were an influencial political Punkband which were formed in spring 1978 as DC10 in Berlin and this is their only 7Inch which came two years after the great full-length on Karl's Aggressive RockproduktionenFor them, the political is more important than secondary. They play at squats, at demos, in front of prisons,etc..... Radical anti-capitalism is paramount. After this EP they also record the mini-LP 23 Skiddoo, which was their last regular release. 2014 re-issued by StaticAge in partially limited gold vinyl edition. Three uncompromising blasts with a killer production that is raw yet powerful! BetonCombo is a musical monument and we leave it this way. I'm going to eat something now, turkey goulash with salad, and tomorrow I will be back in 100% topform..... I promise!

THE PRATS - Die Todten Reyten Schnell 7'' 1980

Puuhhhhhh..... my dear friends... I have to admit, I slept little, much party & drunk and I'm still not sober. What a match it was? Tension to the end and very exciting. I think both sides lost a lot of energy and nerves that night. I will not say much about the game, you all saw it and the better team won in my opinion, and this post is dedicated to the Scots who played really well and need some consolation: The Prats were founded late 1977 in Edinburgh and comprised the Maguire brothers Paul (vocals/guitars), Greg (guitar/vocals), Tom (bass) and David (drums). Their first vinyl appearance was on the Earcom 1 compilation in 1979 with three tracks, In the same year they recorded a session for John Peel's BBC Radio 1 show. Peel also offered his fee from a DJing appearance in Edinburgh to finance a single release by the band. A series of 7Inches then followed, including General Davis and Die Todten Reyten Schnell, which was released on a German indie label called DaDa Records. In 1980 followed their last record called The 1990's Pop EP via Rough Trade. But the end of school in 1981 meant saw the demise of the Prats as they went their own separate ways into the big, bad world. Cheers & Prost!

EXTRA - Isabel 7'' 1982

Today is the day and I'm damn tense and can't wait for the kick off. An exciting match is guaranteed, 50:50 I would say, and both teams have enough fans on board in Sevilla that will hopefully create a great atmosphere. Of course, today's post belongs to the host country and it's from a short-lived band called Extra, a relatively unknown Spanish PowerPop combo from Madrid, I think, and they dealed their stuff in 1982 and that's it. Apart from the band members, Jaime (vocals/guitar), José (guitar), Bobby (bass) and Salva (drums), I can't tell much about them, but Isabel is the 45RPM of their only full-length on DB Belter. The title track is a solid swinging PowerPop gem. Catchy, melodic with a nice sing-along chorus, I love this song. The Flip, on the other hand, is very, very subdued and really not my thing, sounds strong soft-pop but I would be interested in their album and would be happy about a quality rip. Worth mentioning, Extra weren't anywhere invited on compilations, hmmmm... why could that be?? Egal, enjoy the record and in four hours rolls the ⚽ and I wish all football fans worldwide a fantastic and exciting evening.

KRYPTON TUNES - Coming To See You 7'' 1978

Another lost nugget now by the Krypton Tunes, a four piece from Welsh and lasted from 1977 to 1979 and in this short activity they managed to release three singles. The band consisted of John (vocals/guitar), January (guitar), Dave (bass) and Bob (drums) and in 1978 they released two superb 7Inches, this one on Black And Red Records and the Limited Vision on Lightning Records. By the release of their third and last record Extended Play EP in 1979, the line-up changed quite radically, only John remained from the original members. John Bowen played bass, Brian drummed, and Sue Marsden was responsible for the synthesizer. Shortly after that the band broke up. Retro Records released a CD-R with all three 7inches but nodody knows when this came across. What remains: two nice mid-tempo tracks that probably served as a role model for the British Punk invasion that followed.

DIE ANGST - Die Angst In Euch Ist Die Angst In Uns 2012

The following band is always a welcome guest in my theater. 3 out of 26 reasons a) we're talking about Die Angst from Rathenow and one of my faves, b) their powerful, sombre music turns me on with its driving dynamic extra long elegiac bass runs, scrappy 80s guitars and refreshing heaviness, that's the sound that keeps me awake, and c) a new 7inch is coming out these days on their own Moon Records label (order/listen now via bandcamp) with two crackers in the typical Angst style. On this superb six track mini CD are Seve (vocals/bass), Kilian (vocals/guitars) and Jensen (drums) making music... splendid music. The only thing I have to complain: the slabs are too short. I've barely arrived and after thirty minutes the journey is already over. I mean, it's different with a hardcore record because of the number of tracks, after that I'm inspired and it's good. With the Brandenburgers I'm on my trip in the middle of nowhere and waiting for the bus, you know what I mean? 'ZackBumBäng' - Well, I'll get in again. Enjoy all the wafts of fog and don't miss the next episode when it says again: Mommy, I don't have a bus ticket!
