T.S.O.L. - Change Today? 1984

Again snow overnight, brrr... Fuck Winter!!! Let's get comfortable with the third album by T.S.O.L. (True Sounds Of Liberty), formed 1978 in Long Beach by Jack (vocals), Ron (guitars), Mike (bass) and Todd (drums), released in 1984 through Enigma Records. Bradley Torreano of Allmusic remarks that Change Today? had "a different flair than the group had in the past. The guitars were gloomier and more focused, while Wood's melodramatic croon sharpened the whole affair into a unique L.A. goth sound." Allmusic's Robert Gabriel gave the album three stars out of five, saying that it "marked quite a stylistic twist for the band. Known up to that time as a hardcore punk outfit, T.S.O.L. suddenly became much more of a traditional rock group with more in common with The Doors than The Damned. All things considered, Change Today? is actually a fine album, most notable for its inspired songwriting and driving guitars. Well, I have nothing to add except a perfect album (with twenty nine minutes far too short), beautiful melodies and the request not postpone important things.

MOTOS - Muevete EP 1982

A little history about the beginning of the spanish punk scene from wikipedia: "In Spain, the punk rock scene emerged in 1978, when the country had just emerged from forty years of fascist dictatorship under General Franco and after his death in 1975, the country went through a “volatile political period”, in which the country had to try to relearn democratic values and install a constitution. When punk emerged, it did not appropriate socialism as its goal; instead, it embraced “nihilism”, and focused on keeping the memories of past abuses alive, and accusing all of Spanish society of collaborating with the fascist regime. The early punk scene included a range of marginalized and outcast people, unemployed, leftists, anarchists, queens, dykes, poseurs, scroungers, and petty criminals." A lot of good bands start to play awesome dirty punkrock and also the Motos, they were more a power-pop-punk band, from Pamplona formed in the early 80's. This is their first EP with 4 melodic, catchy Songs. That's all info i had, maybe you know more.

VOID SECTION - Virus 1995

Classic melodic punkrock from one of the oldest -still active- Belgian bands. Void Section find its roots back in 1989. "They from the Antwerp/Heist-op-Den-Berg and they are one of the oldest melodic punkrockbands of Belgium and they are already active for about 15 years, spewing out fast and catchy punkrocktunes. Having played with bands like NO FX, Bad Religion, Ten Foot Pole and so many other classic punkrockbands, they've gained a loyal fanbase that feels related to the music this combo is playing. Void Section has released several albums in the past, working together with various record labels like Tune records or the Brussels based I Scream records, but were looking for a label where they would feel part of the family and that's how they got hooked up with funtime records. With labelmates/punkrock collegues like Five Days Off, Homer, Cranck or Shandon, they're more than motivated to join the punkrocktrain. In october of 2003, Void Section has spend a month in the Grindhouse Studio to work on their new album. This album is their 2nd, released on Tune Records and is a blistering collection of fifteen melodic punkrocksongs." (info from Funtime Records).

PPPÖNK - PP. EP 1997

Here’s a blast from the Icelandic underground past. The band started in 1997 with an exchange student named Benjamin Jay Kline, who studied in Flensborg High School. He had agreed to partake in the school’s singing competition, with his own song. When the time came he decided to go to the movies instead and asked his “sister”, Laufey, to sing it instead, to which she agreed. The school band had one Freyr Gígja on guitar and Guðni on drums, and their co-operation proved so fun that they decided to continue, and recruited Nonni on guitar and Bjössi on bass. While waiting for the drummer on their first practice, a chap they knew named Kjartan was out walking his dog, and dropped in on a visit. He sat behind the drum-kit, counted in, and thus the band was fully formed. The band had one popular song, called “Surferboy” which got on some charts, and was released on a compilation CD called “Drepnir”. Then Freyr dropped out and Gísli Árnason took his place. The Sugarcubes’ label Bad Taste got wind of them and released this awesome 8 Song EP in 1997.

ENDE NOVEMBER - Discography 2006

The music of this band would certainly run past me, and I am grateful that this was prevented (Cheers, Contra!!). Ende November were Vlado Jelic (Vocals/Lyrics/Guitars), Jo Tiedau (Bass) and Stephan Krakau (Drums/Percussion) and come from Cologne. "Through our music, there are two things to know: We sing in German, we make music which is peculiar." Well, their music moves between fast and melodic passages, slightly tinged dark and a comparison with EA80 is quite not wrong. "Besides the music we care about the content: by Dylan we have copied us how summarizes internal processes into words. The same goes for Cohen and Nick Cave. On the other hand, that does not always have to be slow and deliberate. Role models are nice and very well, Ende November is neither a cover combo, even a static project. Ende November is a living process..." To date, unfortunately, is not a single vinyl release of the band appeared (except one song on the Kalte Sterne & Friss Deine Kultur compilations) and I find that quite strange because the band deserves more attention. Musically and lyrically they belong to the premier league and they kick the blues out of every couch potato. So this post here is a selfmade CD with almost all recordings. Meanwhile, the band exists no longer. What remains? Download!!!!

NEW ORDER - @ The Venue, Blackpool U.K. 30.08.1982

It's strawberry season again my friends and for the past few days I've been enjoying 500 fresh grams of them, that I can buy here on the side of the road from a local farmer. Even today, not exactly cheap but fresher. Yesterday I told you, that I have a lot of housework to do and today I finished Part 2 and I can tell you that cleaning windows is exhausting, especially when they are big. It's an old building where I live but I would never want to live anywhere else. For musical accompaniment I had this fantastic soundboard recording of New Order's Blackpool performance from 1982 in and I thought: why not post it? The sound quality is okay throughout and I like the early recordings of the four because I think they combine a perfect fusion of Joy Division & New Order and some of their new stuff is also to my liking and runs temporarily on my turntable. Nine songs but that's enough for an entertaining pastime. And now I want to go out in the sun.

TOY DOLLS - Everybody Jitterbug 7'' 1982

This month I will try to post some requests, Wanted_List and rare stuff and should someone have anything from the adjacent list please send. Start with the Toy Dolls and their rare single that appeared 1982 on Zonophone. To the band just a few words because I think everyone knows them. In a Nutshell, the band began in Sunderland, North East UK in October 1979. Throughout the past 30 years+ The Toy Dolls have built up one of the strongest most loyal fan bases known to a Punkband on this level. Live I've never seen but musically the fun combo par excellence. The right opener for breakfast.

BROKEN TOYS - Dirt 1991

Before I waste my time today with ripping some records first a post. The Broken Toys from Boston play bubblegum-based punk rave-ups with so much raw energy and urgency that they vividly recall New York’s finest, the Ramones. Over the past ten years, The Broken Toys have released countless singles and cassettes, appeared on numerous LP and CD compilations and toured Europe no less than five times. Earlier this year, Broken Toys signed with the German label Incognito Records and Dirt, their thirteen-song debut, is crammed with hooky, guitar-driven ditties like “Control Myself,” “Nothing to Do,” and the sarcastic “I’m Aware You’re Perfect” Broken Toys’ melodic sense arid occasional use of harmonies make their best cuts not only infectious, but danceable. Melodic ‘77 Punk rock which sounds sometimes like the Ramones. These guys specialize in rockin’ three-chord punk with memorable choruses and raw performance and production values. Above average; has the added benefit of good energy and loads of sarcastic humor. Have they seen 1990 in Hamburg/Marquee and was thrilled. If you’re into '77 style, get this quick. You can’t go wrong.

BÄRBEL - Punkzirkus 2001

"Old" men from Hamburg, some with glorious punk rock past - for example 3000 YEN, made a cool album with eighteen punkies and great German lyrics = catchy tunes. Nice lyrics about pretty women cocktail drinking, one or the other tragic love story (with or without a happy ending), their children or simply the preference Punk sung that one probably does not even let go over the years. The fact is the guys from Bärbel have the right sense of humor on the one hand shows the band name and the other the cool cover version of California Dreamin'. Their only album was released via Johnny Mofa Records and Punkzirkus is a record for friends of Hamburg punk rock and of course all other maniacs.

OK, interested none of you so let's enter "Geyser, a compilation on Enigma Records and this record is a reflection of the activities Gramm Records has been engaged in over the five past years. RAT BASTARDS - 6 Song EP 2004

Now folks, it's getting loud and fast and this post is for all Hardcores out there and this fuckin' 6 Song EP is a great example for brilliant screamcore. Rat Bastards are from Chicago and the band started in the mid 90s featuring former Industrialized Autocracy members, along with late 80s scene member Pat Kelly. They are still playing today (after some lineup changes) and on this little noisecracker are Pat (vocals), Jay & Rick (guitars), Al (bass), Mike (drums), they made five 7Inches, this one on Kangaroo Records (Amsterdam label) and one album. For the collector nerds are the two singles on Will E. Survive Records very interesting, "Contaminated Minds" and the split with Dead Drunk. There's definitely been a shift musically since the early years, starting as a 80's style hardcore band which moved into a newer sound, incorporating into that both Swedish and Japanese H/C influences. They've all played in a lot of Chicago bands in the past and continue to do so. Now enjoy this classic hardcore stuff with the highest volume.

RUDOLPH DIETRICH - Mutterfreuden 1981

"Don't Miss The Past" so the full album title. And Mutterfreuden is a power/punkrock album with beauty & goodness. And that can only be rock & roll. The two Swiss label Off Course Records and Another Swiss Label have been relevant to the image of Swiss and Punks impressed with good sound and professional cover design. They were also the first to be afforded the luxury of Maxi-Single-pressings. And the music was always melodic, which makes it even still listenable. Rudolph Dietrich (Liliput, Nasal Boys) writes undoubtedly good punk songs and demonstrates this impressive with this fuckin' Album. Truly a whole cool punk record.

SATAN 81 - Radioattivita 7'' 1981

About this combo from Italy I haven't much to tell. Satan 81 have only this 7Inch released via City Record and they have recorded two decent mid-tempo numbers and that's it. The a-side was used for the great Killed By Death D'Italia compilation. Very catchy distorted rhythm guitar with nice solos and pretty typical for the early 80's sound of the boot which short time later turned into terrific hardcore, really a pity that many good bands only made it to one fuckin' single, potential was undoubtedly present but I guess there was a lack of good labels and of course money. And today, thirty-five years later, we hunt and seek the treasures of the past. Strange, but that's the way it is!

BIZZMACKEN - Borde Va Död 7'' 2018

Back with a Bang with this cool Single by Bizzmacken on Bizz Records and it's nice to post again after all the hardships of the past few weeks. The bands first EP "Edelweiss" was released in 1987 and members are Ola (vocals), Anders (guitars), Micke (bass), Anders (drums) and the title track was written in 1985 & it took more than thirty years to immortalize this on vinyl. The flip is a new one and both are little dirty catchies and you feel the rough shell of the good ole days. Great stuff!

EASYBEAT - Don't You Know... EP 1981

A lot of rare Swedish stuff has been comin' in the past few days and I have to say: a few real nuggets are underneath. For example the debut EP by Easybeat on Hit-Records, a four piece from Landskrona and the band consisted of Anders (vocals/guitar), Dan (lead guitar), Jonas (bass), Benny (drums) and the songs shine with rich melodies, sweet harmonies and jangly guitars and I'm really excited by their music. The four made it to three singles before they probably disbanded in the mid-80s. So enjoy the four powerpop crusher and invite one of them on your next self-made compilation.

- Great Thx to Fredrik again -

CHAIN CULT - Demo 2018

Something exciting new is coming from Athens and the three members; Jason (vocals/bass), Dino (guitars) and Vangelis (drums) are Chain Cult. These guys released their powerful demo as tape and also as 10'' via the London label La Vida Es Un Mus. Their post punk is anthemic, militant and idealistic, putting music to a very dark and bleak time and place with a lot of groove and interesting lyrics. Another single followed and recently their passionate first album Shallow Grave was released. I am extreme impressed of their sound and it is by far the best new combo that I have heard in the past two years. I strongly advise you to keep an eye out for gigs and other records and I hope, they stay in the music world for a long time. You can find out more about the boys in a short interview by Obsessionist.

JUDGE DREAD - The Very Worst Of JD 1991

Let me bring some Sun into your house with Alexander Minto Hughes, better known as Judge Dread, and if reggae then nobody can't past Mr. Explicit Lyrics and he was the first white recording artist to have a reggae hit in Jamaica, leading him to travel to this country to perform live, where many were surprised that he was white, the BBC has banned most of his songs than any other recording artist due to his frequent use of sexual innuendo and double entendres. I like to remember all the long trips with my Pearl in Spain and Greece; far away from everyday life without pressure very relaxed and with this fantastic music, you know, life is sometimes nice! A blessing that the CD is still running, heavily used. Sixteen classics on this compilation which came out via Music Club, all his famous 7Inches - Judge Dread died of a heart attack on March 13, 1998 in Canterbury/England. He had collapsed on stage @ the Penny Theatre, where he'd just wrapped up a performance, he was 52 years at the time..... Viva Suspenders!!!

BANNLYST - Diskografi 2011

Solid release by Berlin based label Norwegian Leather and this awesome compilation features all their vinyl recordings (we're talking about Bannlyst I should maybe mention, a cool trash Hardcore combo from Molde & Oslo, existed between 1982-1985 and consisted of Finn (vocals), Børre (guitars), Per (bass), Thomas (drums) and some members later went on to play in So Much Hate and Stengte Dører, among other bands. Twenty four goodies in total with a good dose of metal and some pop sensibilities, carefully remastered from the original tapes and vinyl as all the master tapes have been lost over the years and I think they've done very well and it's nice to be able to enjoy those long lost nuggets again, from one of the best hardcore bands from this country. A blast from the past!

CRISIS - The Guilty Have A Past 2004

This unofficial compilation by State Laughter Records is full with fourteen nuggets and we talkin' about Crisis, a band which was formed 1977 in Guildford, a large town in Surrey, with the lineup of Phrazer (vocals), Lester Jones (lead guitar), Douglas Pearce (guitar), Tony Wakeford (bass) and Insect Robin (drums) and they released in their short lifetime three great singles and a mini-LP. "Crisis adopted slower tempos and concentrated more on the atmosphere and tension of the music rather than just making a loud, generic thrash. In many ways, by 1978 they were already dabbling in a style which, much later on, would be referred to as Post-Punk, not a million miles away from early Joy Division or The Ruts’ moodier moments." In early 1979, the band underwent a major change in personnel when Phrazer and Insect Robin were replaced by Dexter (a longtime fan and roadie) and Luke Rendle. After performing their last show, supporting Magazine and Bauhaus in their hometown of Guildford @ Surrey University 10.05.1980, the band broke up.
