THE MODERNS - Suburban Life 2021

Sweden's first and best mod-revival band The Moderns mixed the love of 60's pop with the intensity of Punk and had the big breakthrough around the corner during the short but intense career. Based in Malmö, the Moderns existed from late 1978 to 1981 and founding members were Mats (vocals/guitar), Tony (guitar), Jan (bass), Rickard (drums) and early 1979 they released their first self-financed 7Inch The Year Of Today. The record gained a lot of publicity due to the freshness of the sound and the fact that nobody else did this kind of music in Sweden at the time. Some line-up changes followed and eventually another single plus an album was released in the early 80's but the album didn’t sell as much as was anticipated, partly due to switch to the Swedish language, and so the band broke up shortly after. Busy Bee Production has once again created a real highlight on vinyl and along with the second single, songs from a couple of compilation albums and some completely unreleased tracks, this record is the definitive collection with The Modern's first line-up. Limited edition, 600 copies (400 black & 200 blue vinyl). Grab a copy if you get the chance, because this is interesting stuff for all outsiders & undergrounders.

V/A - Punk Rock Rarities Vol.2 1996

And immediately the second and final part of the Punkrock Rarities by Anagram and the spirit of this CD is the same as the previous one. It brings us again closer to rare 7inches by lesser known or short lived bands from the British Isles, and giving them the respect they deserve. Together with Vol.1 they form an absolute glimpse of what was happening on the fringes of the big bands and the scene was anything but tired. Music that does its deserved rounds and is a perfect introduction to the UK subculture for all newcomers and dirty old freaks like me. Enjoy!

V/A - Punk Rock Rarities Vol.1 1995

The Punk Collectors Series by Anagram Records started in 1989 and ran until mid-2005 and were released only on CD, but considering what's packed on it, this format fits perfect in this case. The idea behind was to immortalize old out of print Punkrock 7Inches/Goodies onto one compilation, be it per band, be it per label, in both cases great pieces were pressed and I'm a big fan of this series. A few are already on the blog and more will follow. From the Rarities volumes exist only two outputs, but these have a lot to offer and are dedicated to bands that didn't get much attention and released only one or two singles on small labels during their active time. Many of you, myself included, hardly had a chance to get hold of the originals because they weren't distributed professionally, had small editions, were sold by the bands themselves and were therefore hardly known across borders, real D.I.Y. spirit you know and that's totally okay. And that's why it is important that labels use their possibilities to dig out such Nuggets, so that we, who are interested, can enjoy these forgotten bursts of creative innovation today, or simply: excellent stuff!

V/A - Rat Music For Rat People Vol.2 1984

Well, the Bundesliga opener yesterday was a total flop, 0:5 after forty-five minutes, a brilliant performance in all areas, impressive. Bayern showed Frankfurt where the hammer is, and made it clear who wants to become Deutscher Meister. It will be difficult for any Bundesliga club to beat this team. Nevertheless, I'm sure that the SGE will play a good season. To the post: a decent compilation by CD Presents Ltd. is the second part of the mini Rat People serie. Eleven renowned bands of the Eighties with fourteen classics come to your house to tell you to keep an eye out for their records and to get your lame butt moving because those little flabs are telling you: no more convenience! Partly different versions than on their records make this delicacy an absolute listening and Pogo pleasure. And now breakfast.

1.Butthole Surf Theme Song - BUTTHOLE SURFERS
2.History - BIG BOYS
3.The Seed - BIG BOYS
4.Case History - PERSONALITY CRISIS
5.Fake Contest - MINUTEMEN

GLUEAMS - Discography 2010

"One of the holy grails of femme Punk underground gets a much-deserved reissue" and this straightforward ’77 masterpiece was brought to us by Static Age in an edition of 500 copies. This little label from Berlin has already revived some real Nuggets and I think, this one's is the first release at all. Egal, the Glueams were a short-lived combo which released back in the day (1979-1980) only three EP's which are all on this sucker plus seven unpolished live tracks from the "Swiss Punk Now" Festival which took place in November 1979. On this record are involved: Dorette (vocals), Huri & Martin E. & Martin P. (guitars), G.T. (bass), Marco (drums). I'll leave you with a suitable review so I don't have to write much:

"Absolutly beautifully packaged collection of the 7Inche of this essential Swiss Punx, plus a remastered but still raw live set. Fierce female vocals over artfully constructed yet raging punk that's somewhere between Jack & The Rippers, Lost Kids and TNT! Dorette's vocals are less schreechy than Poly Syrene and less arch than Kleenex, but have this raucous sexy quality them that brings to mind Lost Kids. The music is basic, sorta brutish in places but anthemic and catchier than scabies. It's hard not do dance to this shit. "365" is a dance party floor filler, "Mental" is a triumphant anthem; perfect for soundtracking another crappy day in the real world. The lead guitar part sounds weirdly intricate and repetitive. "Strassen" has this swagger to it, the vocals less exubertant than on the first Singles, then a paint-by-numbers guitar solo comes in and dislodges your brain cells. The live stuff were recorded at the is cool, but after listening to the Punk perfection of the first two seven inches it's not quite as compeling. Though it does add to the rest of the package. The cover has this crazy picture of Dorette under a weird foil covered burning cross, it gives it a dark paganlook rahter than anything else though. Releasesd in part by the people who did the amazing Hot Love book on SwissPunk that you gotta check out if you haven't already, it's the size of a phone book and probably on of the coolest documents of the early Punk scene I have seen." KOMPLIKATIONS - The 12''Inches 2012 - 2017

Now I introduce you to a band that totally thrills me and deserves your absolute attention, because..... simply brilliant. "We play without any guitars and that is it! We call ourselves Punk elektrorockers playing rough minimal sound! Turn your emotions into music! Into creative violence!" So Komplikations, a three piece from Liege about themselves, formed 2011 by Alen (vocals), Synth Lio (synth) and Karsten (drums) and they were influenced by Seventies US west coast bands like Screamers and UnitsThey have already released five 12Inches via Rockstar Records, of which I have compressed the first four in this file. Hatred meets sheer desperation, bundled in a SynthPunk thunderstorm that is rarely offered in such quality. Driven by conviction, who define music as an outlet for the experiences of their own lives. They manage to write mercilessly groovy songs that make your insides pulsate and the challenges of everyday life become small. A lot of strength and energy fills your veins, and you come immediately into a mood that drives you forward like on cocaine. Twenty-One dynamic hymns which are just as great as the last appearance of the SGE on last Monday. Superb, cool, und ein Muss!

LAST RITES - Outtakes & Wat Weiss Ich Denn? 2020

Superb release from Mad Butcher Records and this compilation (250 copies) is full with rare stuff by the Last Rites from Glasgow. The band were formed 1982 as the Treblinka Boys by John (vocals), Alan (guitars), Drew (bass), Eddie (drums) but soon they changed their name to Last Rites and so the combo were born and this line-up played several gigs together (actually they're playing a few songs because as soon as the gig started the police crashed the performance and pulled the plugs)Some line-up changes followed, and in 1982 they recorded a ten-song demo (Protest & Survive). After the release Drew quit and was replaced by Alex and a deal with Flickknife Records brought the first 7Inch We Don't Care/Stepdown out. A new drummer was then sought and eventually found in Jim. The Fascism Means War EP came then in 1984 on Essential Records and most of the songs of the demo have been revamped and they were ready for an album. This Is The Reaction finally hit the streets in 1984 with fourteen songs and was to be the band's final album, and how things went further with the boys you can read this in the detailed insert. Musically, we enjoy twenty-one decent rudimentary pogos as we know & love from the Eighties and there is nothing wrong with that!

C.C.M. - Live In SO 36 1988

It's getting loud and ecstatic on wdthtc, because an awesome live slab from Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers, or simply C.C.M. (the band name was a tribute to the Dead Boys guitarist), is waiting for you. Founded in Pisa and active from 1979 to 1987, the four were one of the first Italian Hardcore combos and part of the Tuscan Grand Duchy scene. 400 Fascists (the original is hard to find these days) was their first EP and came out 1981 via Cessofonya Records with four fantastic killers, inspired by a military parade of 400 paratroopers held in Pisa in those years. The record is now one of the very first productions of Italian hardcore punk, a genre that in those years was developing in the rest of the world. In 1983 they released a self-produced split cassette Sfregio Permanente/Permanent Scare which saw them in collaboration with I Refuse It! (later re-issued on vinyl by Children Of The Revolution Records in 1985) and in the same year a second tape called (We Are The) Juvenile DelinquencyThey participated in the Last White Christmas festival which took place in Pisa on 4. December 1983, organized by the Grand Duchy Hardcore (GDHC) in the deconsecrated church of San Zeno. In 1984 they were then invited by the American R Radical Records of Dave Dictor of MDC, to be part on the International P.E.A.C.E. Benefit Compilation which was released in collaboration with the San Francisco fanzine MaximumRockNRoll. 1985 came their Furious Party, the second EP out and during a tour in the States, they recorded their Into The Void album in Indianapolis, both released on Belfagor Records. In 1987 the group disbanded after the release of this live album which was recorded in SO36, Berlin on 16th May 1987, released on Destiny Records and the last line-up was Syd Migx (vocals), Antonio (guitars), Sandro (bass), Alex (drums)That was a lot of words, and I recommend you listen to the must-have compilation The Furious Era 1979-1987, released 2017 on Area Pirata, which features all the Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers material.

EINLEBEN - Soundtrack Zum Sommer 2002

August starts with a sad laugh and I thought I still had to rip the vinyl, but I did that job five years ago, that saves me a lot of work because I'm afraid my PC cracks soon. - Einleben from Wasserberg are among the bands that I always enjoy listening to and whose concerts I have always enjoyed attending whenever possible. This is their third & final album on Plastic Bomb Records. First, the artwork is very aesthetic with somber images in shades of blue, country roads, railway lines and a dilapidated cottage in the mountains, in front of which one sees oneself sighing and lamenting one's fate. For the ears then ten melodic and emotional Gems in mid-tempo range, some of which go well forward. The whole thing is very heavy on guitars and lyrics. The songs are, as usual, saturated with a deep melancholy, sometimes with despair, whereby the guys keep letting hope particles flow in, so as not to let the listener stand too much in the vale of tears. Inspiring and certainly an ideal stimulant to balance disharmony. A short visit to Bunt and Rauchzart, their two predecessor albums, is also worthwhile. Now I leave you alone with beautiful, driving and sensitive music. Enjoy!

BLACK MARKET BABY - Senseless Offerings 1983

July was hot and accordingly I close the chapter with a hot slab, the debut of Black Market Baby from Washington D.C. on Fountain Of Youth Records and were one of the few D.C.-area hardcore bands with no ties to the Dischord label, they nonetheless came to be looked upon as an influence on many of the local bands who followed. Formed 1980 and after sone line-up changes Boyd (vocals), Scott (guitars), Mike (bass), Tommy (drums) recorded this fantastic album with twelve great songs. A couple of 7Inches followed, but unfortunately the plan to release a second album failed. They broke up in January 1988 following a farewell show. In 1990, the German label Bitzcore issued a best-of compilation called Baby Takes, which featured singles and material from the first album; it was followed in 1991 by Baby On Board, which included material from the unreleased second album as well as more from the first. Excellent hot Stuff!
