JACK & THE RIPPERS - A Wonderful Piece Of Punk Rock 1997

Jack & The Rippers were one of the first punk bands in Switzerland, based in Geneva, which has at that time an equally vibrant punk scene such as Zurich. Most important members of the band were the brothers John (vocals) and Francois (guitar) Seilern, Englishman with Austrian blood which that occurs from the work of their parents were aground in Switzerland. Their mischief drove the Rippers although only for about 8 months (October 77 - June 78), and therefore the release of their first single experienced no longer as a band. Musically the band can be describe as brilliant power punk with strong English strike on the right track. Their only 7inch was released 1979 on Another Swiss Label in a small edition, 500 copies or so, and is for me one of the best swiss punk records all the time, (the original 7” single is now very hard to find.) 'No Desire' is a hymn, a short ecstasy with great lyrics. I can use the song for any compilation, totally addictive stuff! They recorded a 2nd 7inch 'Don't Pretend' but it was never released, first 2003 from Fan Club Company in limited edition of 500 published. Loud, Proud & Punk Records recognized the genius of this band and released this slab with all their early recordings, 2004 Dirty Faces comes with another compilation with two more songs. After the end of the band the Seilern brothers founded relatively quickly a new band with their bassist Babine and two members of another Geneva punk band (The Bastards) called the Zero Heroes. The sound was almost as significant to the English power pop with influences of ska elements, they released two albums. So enjoy this wonderful piece of punk rock!!!!

V/A - Swiss Wave The Album 1980

All right folks, it's time for a compilation this month and let's move to the Swiss area and enjoy one of the first releases from Off Course Records and this is a decent mix of punk and powerpop. There exist many re-releases and you can read a lot of infos on the discogs page, which label, year, etc..... most of the songs appear on the bands album or 7Inches but these are the original recordings what makes this platte very rare, a good overview about the Swiss underground scene at that time. The label is one of my favourite Swiss one with lots of rare records nowadays. Volume 2 came three years later out on Astan Records, don't know this, someone?

V/A - Pogo Punks 1999

Actually I didn't post a sampler again because the most songs on this are otherwise available in Blogland and I thought to myself it's a waste of time to post lots of double cuts but this unoffical release leaves me no choice. Excellent song selection with massive early original Swiss Punk from 1977 - 1982. I have found that many Swiss punk records are available again today at fair prices, but you have to be fast. Here we have nine complete 7inches (except Bellevue) and this goes out to the swiss maniac who falls from the chair and lobotomized his neighbors.

3.I Feel Like A Tram - JACK & THE RIPPERS

GLUEAMS - Discography 2010

"One of the holy grails of femme Punk underground gets a much-deserved reissue" and this straightforward ’77 masterpiece was brought to us by Static Age in an edition of 500 copies. This little label from Berlin has already revived some real Nuggets and I think, this one's is the first release at all. Egal, the Glueams were a short-lived combo which released back in the day (1979-1980) only three EP's which are all on this sucker plus seven unpolished live tracks from the "Swiss Punk Now" Festival which took place in November 1979. On this record are involved: Dorette (vocals), Huri & Martin E. & Martin P. (guitars), G.T. (bass), Marco (drums). I'll leave you with a suitable review so I don't have to write much:

"Absolutly beautifully packaged collection of the 7Inche of this essential Swiss Punx, plus a remastered but still raw live set. Fierce female vocals over artfully constructed yet raging punk that's somewhere between Jack & The Rippers, Lost Kids and TNT! Dorette's vocals are less schreechy than Poly Syrene and less arch than Kleenex, but have this raucous sexy quality them that brings to mind Lost Kids. The music is basic, sorta brutish in places but anthemic and catchier than scabies. It's hard not do dance to this shit. "365" is a dance party floor filler, "Mental" is a triumphant anthem; perfect for soundtracking another crappy day in the real world. The lead guitar part sounds weirdly intricate and repetitive. "Strassen" has this swagger to it, the vocals less exubertant than on the first Singles, then a paint-by-numbers guitar solo comes in and dislodges your brain cells. The live stuff were recorded at the is cool, but after listening to the Punk perfection of the first two seven inches it's not quite as compeling. Though it does add to the rest of the package. The cover has this crazy picture of Dorette under a weird foil covered burning cross, it gives it a dark paganlook rahter than anything else though. Releasesd in part by the people who did the amazing Hot Love book on SwissPunk that you gotta check out if you haven't already, it's the size of a phone book and probably on of the coolest documents of the early Punk scene I have seen." Weekend, sunny, tonight SGE-FCB... Yippee!!!

REDNECKS - Blitzkrieg Bop 2007

"We called ourself the Rednecks because we hated boring sloppy hippies! We played Kick-Ass Rock'N'Roll. The New York Dolls and the Ramones inspired us. The second concert saw us open for our idols, the Troggs. They watched our show and dug us too! We're in heaven! Listen!!!!.... and Kick!!!" All tracks were recorded live on October 18th, 1978 @ Salle Du Faubourg in Geneva, Switzerland (opening for the Troggs). The Rednecks were a Punk band from Geneva and consisted of Francis Seilern (vocals/guitar), Babine (bass), both from Jack & The Rippers, Sandro Sursock (vocals/guitars) from the Bastards and Paul Zouridis (drums) from the Scelerates. The band was specializes in cover versions of their favorite crunchy Punk and Rock & Roll songs by the Ramones, Heartbreakers, Pirates, Chuck Berry, etc.... and these recordings shows the band in absolute top form and all tracks are present here in a consistently recording quality. Hit after Hit and I can imagine how incredible this show was. I think, these songs are the only releases by them, so relax and listen to this limited to 300 copies CD-only!

NASAL BOYS - Lost And Found 2008

A request becomes real. From my former Blog, I found my old words, here I go:
Maybe one of the first punk band from Switzerland are the Nasal Boys. Founded December 1976 by Rudolph Dietrich, Leo Remmel and Heinrich Wüstenhagen. In addition they are surrounded by a steady changing bunch of musicians. Their first gig was in May 1977 under the name 1001 and in October the Boys recorded a few songs and shortly after their only single ''Die Wüste Lebt'' came out on Periphery Perfume in 1978. They continued to play more live shows and how raw and wild they sound live is here on the B-side documented, recorded at Drahtschmidli, Zurich in 23. December 1977. Thanks to a friend of Rudolph, he gave him the recordings and new remixed they are now here available. Would be a shame if they had stayed in the sinking. Former producer Silvio Panosetti found the unreleased studio songs, on side A and they are also great tunes. You can really feel the agressive guitars and the fast rough Nasal Boys sound which is quite unique. I know no other Swiss punk band that played so real hard (Jack & The Rippers as well). The band disbanded in 1978 and change their name into Expo. So this record is limited to 1000 handnumbered copies with a band-story in English and German plus coloured pictures of gig-posters. A loving and excellent record, thanks to Swisspunk for this lost nuggets.

V/A - Planet Punk #3 2004

Planet Punk is/was another serie of selfmade compilations/revival from Chuck Warner’s Hyped2Death efforts, and before your requests for Volume 1 + 2 come, these are not available. The first appearances of this homework label in this theater have already been made through the Bad Teeth series and H2D is focused on early KBD slabs, sometimes worldwide, sometimes country-specific, and this Fucker is dedicated to rare European stuff. The exact year of publication is given by me, because I believe that it must have been generated at this time, of course I can be wrong, but that doesn't really matter, it is important that they exist and that people like Chuck make such treasures tangible and unforgettable, I am like him and as a regular reader of this blog you already got to know some nuggets from WDM RecordsWell, you can listen to thirty decent cool songs, most of them already on vinyl (click on the top left), but this compilation is just this kind of work that was cobbled with passion, a lot of time, heart & soul and deserves your respect and attention. Enjoy the delicate tones and Volume #4 is coming soon.

One more fuckin' awesome punk compilation with old farts now.
