Classic US Hardcore debut from Reno by 7 Seconds with eighteen decent intense blasts and after on numerous compilations and three 7Inches The Crew was released via BYO and I continue with a retrospective review: "Tiny Mix Tapes wrote that the band's sound "is distilled to a steady grind of too-pah beats and blender-like three-chord sounds, but it’s the combination of this minimalism and Kevin Seconds’s voice, passionate, melodic, hopeful, that makes you believe everything he says." I think, these words describe this record perfect and I regret never seen them live. But their dynamic power on stage comes across on the live album One Plus One from 1987 what I can seamlessly recommend to you. I really enjoy listening to old fantastic classics from time to time, and there are many from various countries and that makes a life as punker worth living, we live/love versatility and variety. I think Mainstream can everyone, punk not! - Now come into the Crew while I'm making myself a little pretty, breakfast is waiting.

7 SECONDS - One Plus One (Live!) 1987
Before I dedicate myself to the second semi-final in Bremen comes this little slab by the 7 Seconds, a punk band from Reno/Nevada. The band started out playing hardcore but have changed their sound throughout the years, touching on emo-core, alternative rock and pop-punk. Formed on January 17, 1980, by the Marvelli brothers, who used the punk names Kevin Seconds and Steve Youth, and the Borghino brothers, who took the names Tom Munist and Dim Menace. The band has gone through numerous lineup changes over the subsequent years, with only Kevin and Steve remaining constant members. In 2018 the band finally broke up. This is their fifth album and was recorded @ Club Can't Tell, Sacto 15.02.1987 and El Dorado Saloon, Sacto 06.06.1987, released via Giant Records/Positive Force Records and equipped with twelve cool numbers.

V/A - For What It's Worth? [WDM Special] 2011
From my former Blog, here's a little selfmade compilation I've cobbled together in recent days and includes some known and unknown bands. Thirty-Two Killed By Death crackers from the glory years 1978 - 1987 and decorated with a few live recordings. With the artwork I'm not really happy and I feel not content but hey: Who Gives A Shit?, right... the title I chose for this compilation haunted for a long time in my head around and so now I spit it out here. I have an emotional weekend behind me and I will not use any other unnecessary words now because I'm feeling fuckin' good. At last: A big fat thanks to all the Bloggers and Friends out there who shared their rare punk stuff with me/us music-maniacs. I wish you all a Sunny Sunday.

V/A - KPNK Punk Radio 1997
I open March with this amusing compilation from Countdown Records and its full of ’80s covers played by renowned punk bands which are partly ingenious, sometimes desolate, but all in all not bad. At least the sound brings a lightly brisk sunshine into my veins, to that a delicious morning coffee and the day can begin, only the question remains: bike or train... or back to bed? Always making decisions is exhausting but nothing can go wrong with this entertaining record. A philosophical conclusion or...

V/A - Not So Quiet On The Western Front 2LP 1982
Let's start the church service with a terrific compilation and I'm glad I wasn't allowed to rip it because such a mammoth work requires a lot of time and a comfortable chair, especially when there's a nice booklet with lots of information within. The material is not unknown in Blogland and I already had a copy, but this rip here is excellent, no wonder, because I know where it comes from. Released by Maximum RockNRoll (one of the best sources for objective reviews and band infos) on Alternative Tentacles as double album and features forty-seven Northern California and Nevada bands (a few known elsewhere, most not), and ranges from punk to hardcore and comes with 48-page zine on the bands. Since I'm lazy to write and I'm not a good reviewer anyway, you can find a fitting one on punknews and before I close, a quick footnote: the link runs through zippy and you have to activate your VPN. Finally, a metaphysical sentence from the back cover: "If Punk Is Dead, What The Hell Is This?" In this sense, enjoy the music!

TRUST - Hardcore Girls EP 2006
WOW! can't remeber when I heard an all girl band that can play super horny hardcore music like this. Six songs in seven minutes. Holy shit, this blast me away and if you really like HC you agree with me. Trust is an all girl hardcore band from from Buenos Aires and was formed in may of 2004. They were all youngsters and always went to hardcore shows so they decided to form a band. Some of them used to play in other punk rock bands. Trust play old school hardcore style like 7 Seconds, Up Front or Youth Of Today. Their lyrics are related to personal stuff; straight edge, vegetarianism and the place girls should even make hardcore music and life. So that's enough words, I promise this record kills your brain in every way.

NEGATIVE GAIN - Back From The Dead 1986
Before I enjoy myself with soccer tonight this Killer debut album by Negative Gain from Toronto. A short Band History (by Grant Slavin): Negative Gain was founded in Toronto, Ontario by Peter Warner who wrote all of the lyrics and provided rehearsal space in his basement. Filling out the lineup was Grant C. Slavin on guitar, Steve Currie on bass, and Andrew Mosely on drums. All members were in their mid-teens at the time. Their influences included Minor Threat, Millions Of Dead Cops, the Misfits, and the Dead Kennedys, as well as local TO bands Direct Action and Sudden Impact. Negative Gain got their first break in '83 when we were asked by local Toronto promoter Jill Heath to open for Jodie Fosters Army at the city's legendary punk club The Turning Point. After the show Pete and Grant went skateboarding with JFA. The evening was documented in a subsequent issue of Thrasher as JFA's guitarist Don Pendelton was writing a column for the rag documenting their tour. Other memorable Negative Gain gigs around this time include warming up for bands like the Circle Jerks, Gang Green, the Descendents and 7 Seconds. The young thrash band soon went from listening to their favorite bands' records on a daily basis to hanging out with them backstage and stealing their beer rider! More help from Jill Heath came when the promoter sent Negative Gain's 1985 demo tape, Attack Of The Killer Bears, to Pushead for review. Pushead evidently like the tape so much that he offered to release a full-length LP for the band on his Pusmort label. Negative Gain recorded their album in Oakville, Ontario in about five hours on a Saturday afternoon, as studio time was limited to what the young band could afford to spend on the recording. The session was produced by Brian Taylor of the Toronto band Youth Youth Youth.
Sadly, Pete Warner committed suicide not too long after the recording was completed, and never lived to see its release. His last gig with the band was with Toronto's Bunchofuckingoofs. Negative Gain continued on as a three-piece for about two more years, before splitting in the late 1980s.
I recommend you visit Stormy's Blogged & Quartered blog where the full Discography 1985-1986 is waiting for you. Great Record!

V/A - A Manchester Collection 1979
Somehow I'm not really waking up today and the long working week has fucked me off, despite the holiday, but I also want to make a first post on this sunny Sunday before I have to take care of the stupid obligations as a tenant. This nice compilation shows bands of the Manchester Musicians Collective and was released via Object Music and is an early audio document of the emerging underground scene in this city. A short intro from the BandOnTheWall site which describes those early days in detail: "When the idea of a Manchester Musicians Collective first emerged, it was expected that the participants would be from the exploratory end of the music spectrum, free improvisers perhaps and committed experimentalists, possibly mixing music with performance art. This expectation was based on the involvement with other collectives of the two original protagonists, music graduates Trevor Wishart and Dick Witts (Trevor in York, Dick in London). But soon after the Collective got going in April 1977 it was obvious that Manchester’s version would be very different: much more Rock’N’Roll." Well, infected by this spirit, in addition to the loud, horrible Punk music that emerged at the end of the seventies, numerous bands were formed and left us unforgettable moments with their tuneful sounds. A refreshing record, that still pushes me in a good mood!

V/A - It's A Youth Explosion! Vol.1 2020
Dear followers & visitors, there is a new little series from Heavy Soul Records and what the creators are unveiling here is first class stuff that is pretty close to the KBD compis, and yes, even better because most of the songs are unreleased, jaja... and described as follows: Fourteen rare & unreleased tracks taking in all that was good from 1977-1984ish. You get Punk, New Wave, and Mod revival all within the amazingly created artwork from Alf Button's Revenge. All fully remastered from a whole source of different formats to create a sound crispier than a bag of Wotsits! The names may not be familiar, but the "Sounds From The Street" created will certainly take you back to when all you needed in life was an LP by The Damned, Clash or Jam and a guitar, bass and drums. All original tracks, by a whole range of musical talent. So a perfect gathering of unearthed classics, limited edition is to be specified but no one knows how many copies were actually pressed... who cares!

COLDREAMS - Morning Rain 7'' 1986
This is one more interesting slab by this five piece from Clermont-Ferrand and not much is known about Coldreams only they has released one cassette in 1985 ('A Crazy Night') and this damn rare single, their only record, via Rock Hardi. This sound is called coldwave and I don't know what this means. Both songs are pretty minimalistic with no Beethoven bums and are for my taste somehow magical. I like these monotonous rhythms and the guitar dances over it, reminds me of the gloomy albums Faith or Seventeen Seconds by the Cure. Both songs do a decent job and with the female vocals they get delicate spells and relax me fully.

THE FIX - Vengeance 7'' 1981
The Fix was a short-lived band of less than two years and had their first vinyl release on legendary Midwestern label Touch And Go. This is their debut (200 copies) with two fantastic short killer tracks and a review can tell you more about it: "Faster and younger than the Ramones, these boys from Lansing, Michigan give us two sides of vinyl and finish it all in two minutes and thirty-nine seconds. This is so fast that you won't even have a chance to sit down, so you better dance with your turntable. This is basic, no frills hard Punk and proves once again that Punk still goes on five years after the initial English explosion." (Sinclair Elrod, Coolest Retard 14, June 1981) - A year later their second and final EP Jan's Room followed before breaking up in early 1982. Really amazing they didn't made an album with their potential, I'm sure it would have been a masterpiece. In 1990, German label Lost & Found Records released a double LP called Cold Days, compiling all six songs from the two singles, the compilation track, four outtakes & twelve live cuts. Excellent Stuff!

DEAD KENNEDYS - Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death LP + Flexi 7'' 1987
When I say goodbye I wanna be buried with this record. Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death is the last amazing album by the brilliant Dead Kennedys, my favorite band from the States, which appeared on Jello's Alternative Tentacles label after their dissolution in 1986. And it's become a compilation with all their 7Inch tracks plus rare live goodies, an awesome farewell by a great band. I quote the wiki entry here because these are really fitting words for this album I think: "The album consists of songs (or in some cases, different versions of songs) that were not released on the band's studio albums. The original vinyl version had tracks 16 and 17 on an extra flexi disc. The album was certified gold by both BPI and the RIAA in December 2007. The title is a play on the ultimatum by Patrick Henry, "Give Me Liberty, Or Give Me Death!", and is intended as a commentary on American consumerism. Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death was the last Dead Kennedys album that Biafra approved the production of, which also led to it being the last album released through Alternative Tentacles.
The slab includes "Pull My Strings", which was played only once on March 25, 1980, when Dead Kennedys were invited to perform at the Bay Area Music Awards in front of music industry bigwigs to give the event some "new wave credibility". The band spent the day of the show practicing "California Über Alles", the song they were asked to play. About 15 seconds into the song Jello Biafra said, "Hold it! We've gotta prove that we're adults now. We're not a punk rock band, we're a new wave band." The band, who all wore white shirts with a big, black S painted on the front, pulled black ties from around the backs of their necks to form a dollar sign, then started playing "Pull My Strings", a satirical attack on the ethics of the mainstream music industry. The song also referenced the Knack's biggest hit, "My Sharona". The song was never recorded in the studio but this performance, the only time the song was ever performed, was included on the album.
Also included is "Night Of The Living Rednecks", which was recorded during a show in Portland, Oregon in 1979. East Bay Ray snapped a string on his guitar as the band finished their song "Chemical Warfare", and to pass the time Jello decided to tell a story, with an accompanying bebop-style instrumental from the rest of the band, about how on the last trip the band made to Portland, he had a confrontation with some "dumb rich kids" in a "life-size Hot Wheels car" that involved him throwing a rock at their vehicle after they sprayed water on him and later trapping himself in a telephone booth when they retaliated."
In principle, there is only one word for this record: Masterpiece! In the file I have attached the booklet as pdf, if you prefer jpeg click on the orange button.
