THE CREEPS - Enjoy The Creeps 1986

Huiii, friends... here's something brand new on wdthtc and I'm excited about the guys. We're talking about the Creeps, a Swedish four piece from Älmhult (Aha!) and active from 1986 to 1997 and the band consisted of mastermind Robert (vocals(guitar/harmonica), Anders (bass), Hans (organ), Patrick (drums). Their debut was released 1986 on Tracks On Wax and the first press was only made in 226 numbered blue vinyl copies and you can guess straight away how rare this fucker isThe Creeps were arguably the best combo of the garage revival of the Eighties and this excellent album is a journey back in time to the beat generation of the Sixties and they never forgot the R&B roots under the fuzz, they put on a few dance and instrumental numbers on their debut and awesome ballads.

A review: "Ever since the release of the 1972 Nuggets: Original Artyfacts comp there have been bands like the Creeps, and most likely there always will be. The Swedish retro act aims squarely at mid-'60s garage rock, aping the bands that aped the Yardbirds, but thanks to inspired playing and inventive arrangements, they succeed in adding to the tradition rather than just running in place. Recorded with period-appropriate atmosphere (i.e. a thick, dirty echo), the Creeps bang out nine originals that channel the Animals and Them, delivered with power and precision. "Down at the Nightclub" leads off Enjoy the Creeps with a stiff swing and a booze-positive philosophy, then breaks down with a jazzy piano coda. Other highlights include the lascivious "Hi, Hi, Pretty Girl," the Farfisa-driven instrumental "Rattlesnake Shake" and the frantic drum rolls and fuzz solo on "Ain't No Square." A medley of Sonics covers ("Maintaining My Cool" and "I'm A Rolling Stone") is reverent and energetic, but won't change anyone's mind about the wild, rambunctious Northwest originals. In fact, the only thing missing on Enjoy the Creeps is a sense of true abandon, that apocalyptic spark that makes the most primitive, boneheaded garage bands like the Count Five or the Seeds so eternal. The Creeps are musicians, not punks, and while there's no lack of get-down vitality to their sound, they won't take the listener anywhere except the dancefloor. However, their pugnacious take of the obscure, middle-finger anthem "City of People" seethes with defiance ("Baby don't you mess with me/Cuz you know you could never bring me down/Hey Hey Hey!"), equaling the sneer of the original 1966 Illusions single, and nearly matching Fireworks' vicious 1995 rewrite as "City of Assholes." Garage rock revivalists will find lots to move to on Enjoy the Creeps, but the band didn't stay tied down to their nostalgic muse for long. The Creeps modified their sound in later years, taking on more modern elements with soul/funk textures that earned them a Swedish Grammy, and a big hit in their homeland with "Ooh, I Like It" in 1990." (Fred Beldin)

"Positively lives up to its title. This is a must for any fan of Swedish garage, or any garage music." (Dogtowne, MRR #40 Sep.1986) - Fits, fantastic stuff!

MÖRBYLIGAN - s/t LP 1979

Now a fucking great record by an interesting band and one thing's for sure for being a debut album: it sounds damn good. Mörbyligan was a band from Mörby/Danderyd and consisted of Annika & Åke (vocals), Johan & Åke (guitars), Anders (bass), Susanne (orgel), Marie (drums) and this is their first slab via Mistlur and they were one of Sweden's most popular bands in the late Seventies with their distinctive mix of fast punk and melodic anarchist prog, but experienced a new spring in the late Eighties, when a new generation opened their eyes to the band, which had then returned to its roots - the simple rock and blues music.

Mörbyligan was originally called Chilly Chimes and was formed in 1974 by Åke Bylund, who then played drums. Chilly Chimes made two singles: Join The Army and Bloodhound. By his side were Bylund (bass) Anders Ström, Åke "Ugglan" Magnusson and Christian Agdur, who would later make a career as "Den Rockande Polisen". In 1976 Johan Krok became a member of the band. When Chilly Chimes appeared on the compilation album Ljud Från Friberga, the group consisted of the same members as at the name change to Mörbyligan. Later, Susanne Fragell joined the organ, and "Åke" Ugglan "Magnusson was persuaded to hang up the guitar again. The regular bassist Anders Ström took a short break during his military service, but was back on Mörbyligan's album. In addition to its own music, Mörbyligan had on his repertoire songs from such diverse groups as Dave Clark Five and God In Brallan. Mörbyligan was also one of the first Swedish groups to seek inspiration in the Nordic god saga - this long before the so-called viking rock became popular.

Members of the old Mörby League formed a short period "Älvor Och Troll", and participated with three songs on the low-cost compilation Pärlor by Rosa Honung. Marie and Annika joined together as choir singers in various bands - including with Roger F Rönnblom. Marie also participated on the album and can be found as a "cover girl" on the Ligan's album Isvakt. Åke & Annika were also offered to sing together some songs by other composers. Together with Wille Ahnberg (who from time to time played with Åke and Ugglan in the hobby group "Åke Bylund and Nattljus"), Marie formed the group Mirres Hammare, which is also found on vinyl. Mörbyliga's biggest hit was Åke's composition "Ensamma Sussie", which was played almost around the clock on all local radio stations. However, the Swedish radio never wanted to play it, as it was considered that it contained "Ugly Words". In 1982, Åke Bylund Band's 7Inch "Ich Liebe Dich" was chosen as the single of the year in Aftonbladet. In 1984, Åke, Tomas Stendius, Roger & Per Alpne (from Åkes and his joint sixties band East West) with the help of Bo Larsson and Bernt Egerbladh released an LP on the theme "Alternative Faith". Many years later, this record was the subject of a new release on CD and gave Mörbyligan a partly new audience.

Well, after all the infos I can only recommend this album to you. At first it seems a little strange, but with each song it becomes a real highlight. TOP!!!!

INCEST BROTHERS - Tre År Försent 12'' 1984

Incest, because they cheated on each other. Brothers, because they hated the thump-thump culture of the disco freaks. How angry can punk band better periodize all that shit, than with a dressy obscene name? Incest Brothers Founded autumn 1978 in Järfälla. Hasse (vocals) and Sir N (guitars) bused their band on the Stockholm audience for the first time in the autumn of 1977. Then followed typical time chaos and a gathering of wannabees went in and out of the lineup. When Sören (drums) and the band's fifty-eleventh bassist Tompa dropped out in early 1978, they quickly and uncomfortably reduced to a duo. Luckily, the Nuts (another unhappy Feierabendcombo) were in Järfälla and Vortex (guitars) and Mongo (bass) joined them. Happy (drums) had his own whirlpool and a hi-hat so he also got to join. However, the new Incest Brothers were too small for both Hasse and Sir N. After two gigs, Hasse was fired, Sir N & Mongo shared then the singing chores.

In fall of 1978, they closed themselves in and practiced hard and purposefully for six months, and at Christmas time, gigs were held. The feature of palace shawls and Ebba Grön sprayed leather jackets in the audience was striking. Incest Brothers, with their British punk exterior and witty humor, could hardly be bundled with the ultra-orthodox prog punk. But the song repertoire's socially critical lyrics, performed in angry Swedish, still made it crystal clear that the band belonged to the political punk phalanx. After two years of ravaging Stockholm's suburbs, Incest Brothers' first chance came to record a piece of wax and the ticket was called Bakverk 80, a brilliant collection with KSMB and Travolta Kids. The group had recorded half a dozen songs for the record in the fall of 1979, just a few months after Vortex had left and been replaced by John.

Around the turn of the year 1979-1980 was at the peak of their popularity. They became part at a live EP named Musikverket and in December 1979 participated in Studio S infected TV debate about punkrockers and the fatherland. Filmmaker and author Kristian Petri wanted to do a kind of "They Call Us Courage" about the punk generation, which resulted in "Incest - The Movie", a documentary about the band that was broadcast in February 1981. Before filming began, the band had a new member with Pettson (keys). Essing, who was considered too troublesome for the band's best, had been fucked six months before and instead started playing with UschThe conflict between the group's two front figures deepened with the result that Mongo dropped out. The others continued in the spring of 1981 as a trio. He returned for one last concert in Karlshamn. That farewell was covered by the evening press and later broadcast on the radio's "Ny Våg", the band had then made about a hundred gigs since the start in 1977.

In 1984 the Gang Of Four was discovered by the Rosa Honung label and invited them to spend some time to record new stuff and together with a few old songs from the early days, six tracks were pressed on vinyl. The album's title Tre År Försent was telling in more ways than one: for the new generation of hardcore punk, Incest Brothers was passé. VAMPA - Plugget EP 1982

Weekend and something special now from the Wanted-List and a joy for all Heavy Metal maniacs. Ultra rare Swedish D.I.Y. nugget from 1982 by Vampa from Stockholm and allow me to give you a little bit of infos about them from the re-release: They were just kids, thirteen-fourteen years old when they recorded and released their raw and very Iron Maidenesque piece of vinyl over forty years ago. The band were Robert & Ola (vocals/guitars), Robert (bass), Per (drums) and they made this all by themselves. The lyrics (sung in Swedish) is the ultimate hate for school-anthem. The boredom and frustration of (barely) teenage kids totally sick of school and its teachers has rarely been captured in a better and more enjoyable way. Even though the lyrics are in Swedish the language that grabs the listener as the needle is dropped into the groove is universal. The original EP is near impossible to find. On The Dole Records found the members and re-released this goodie in a limited edition of 500 copies in orange vinyl with new artwork by Swedish artist Oscar Nordblom, Filed under: ”beyond essential to any serious Rock’N’Roll fan”. Always nice to encounter such lost treasures, tack så mycket! 😗

GRISEN SKRIKER - Forsta & Sista EP 1979

Another cool punk band were Grisen Skriker (The Pig Screams) from Sweden and they were formed in autumn 1978 in Farsta, Stockholm by Henrik (vocals), Per & Hasse (guitars), Martin (bass), Mats (drums) and they had their first gig on 23. October that year. The band became one of Stockholm's biggest punk bands along with bands like Ebba Grön, KSMB and SkabbThey came as a fresh breath and as a kick right up in the then prevailing self-righteous Swedish pop and rock music. During their short active period the band released two EP's on Silence Zing Records and carry fifty-two gigs around Stockholm and other places in Sweden and they were famous for their wild theatric live performances. In 1995 came a CD via Silence Records out with both EP's and four bonus cuts (which unfortunately disappeared due to my carelessness). The band then split up in August 1979. Shortly afterwards some of the members formed the Rockets but I don't know much about them. Grisen Skriker contribute two songs on the legendary live compilation Oasen which was released in 1979 via MNW and on other relevant slabsOverall two cool records with brilliant '77 punk goodies and their sound is a bit different to other bands which otherwise I know from Sweden in my opinion. TOP!

BESÖKARNA - 1979 [2021]

From Malmö and one of Stry's many projects and very short lived were Besökarna and they did a handfull of gigs during the seven, eight months of existence. The band consisted of Stry (vocals), Mats (guitar), Henrik (bass), Anna (organ), Bengt (drums) and they released two 7Inches on Heartwork Records (listen!) and they called their music "psynk" as there were a lot of psychedelic influences among the members. This nice compilations was excavated by Rundgång Rekords, 100 copies in clear, 400 in black vinyl, and contains ten numbers that were probably recorded during a demo session in their rehearsal room and haven't been heard... until yet. On some compilations they are also represented but mostly with the same song. An excellent slab for collectors, not so much for hardcore punks, but decide for yourself.

AKUT SKJUT - Leva I Smyg 7'' 1984

In Karlskrona started 1980 this awesome band called Akut Skjut (their name means something like "can't wait to fuck your brains out") and the band consisted of Markus (vocals), Stefan & Mats (guitars), Nicklas (bass), Per (drums) and during their six years of existance they played a lot in southern Sweden. This 7Inch is their only release, handcrafted in small editions, and it contains two motherfuckin' numbers which burns hotter than hell ever can be. Rough and dirty guitars mixed with a hard melodic tempo and again this pretty cool swedish language. Fantastic!! - These two burners belong on every sophisticated Killed By Death compilation, but weren't discovered for this. The band broke up in 1986. In 2003 there was a reunion gig. That's all folks - listen!

MACKT & ON-BIRDS - Split EP 1980

On this record we have two combos from Linköping, Sweden and for both is their only vinyl appearance and this little record came via Jörvars Gosskör (punk fanzine & occasional label) in a few different color versions in an edition of 500 copies out. Mackt consisted of Batzz (vocals), Magnus (guitars), Jan (bass), Holger (drums) and they give us five excellent short '77 style biscuits, delicious stuff and I can shake hands with them, while the On-Birds (Jan, Mats, Nils-Göran & Sven) songs are real low-fi noises and if you like this kind of sound you will love them. It's a bit exhausting in the long run for my taste and I'm not a big fan of this but their soupbowl songs have charm, they're funny and they're quick over. Either you love it or not. More infos about both I can't find so search the net by yourself and maybe you find out something. So that's all for now, I'm leavin now because I need some cold beer and the temperatures are a bit benevolent now.

THE TOILETS - Hjul I Natten 7'' 1982

Let us chill this morning with the Toilets, a short-lived three piece from Olofström, Blekinge and the band consisted of Jens (vocals/bass), Lars (guitars), Stefan (drums) and this is their only record on Amalthea with two decent ska tracks. "I ride without a light in the middle of the night as much as I want.", this is the chorus of "Hjul I Natten (Wheels In The Night)" and it's a swinging scale song, which the cover also gives clear hints about. However, the band did not sound like that at the start two years earlier. After mixing wildly between blues, jazz, funk and songs in different constellations, they started to get tired. Instead, they embraced the new wave of punk ska and reggae and renamed themselves the Toilets. But they never completely let go of their background. From time to time, guitar, bass and drum solos appeared as an extra spice. The texts were usually of secondary importance. They were mostly about everyday things like a bike ride or when the imagination got tired they sometimes stole words from the children's classic book Min Skattkammare (My Treasury). The three did a gig 2005 at home in Olofströrm in connection with the release of the compilation Greatest Shits, a burnt double CD with forty-eight new recordings from the band's huge repertoire. The band had one compilation appearance with a live song on the double CD Rockscen Blekinge 69-99, which was released on Blekinge Museum in 2018. Enjoy two early unique ska tunes which aren't comparable with the next generation.

DOM FÅGLARNA - Pappa Mamma Bilen Och Jag 7'' 1981

Stockholm is a perfect place to create a punkband and this 7Inch is a further example for a brilliant record. Six piece Dom Fåglarna, Lisbeth (vocals), Leif & Fredrik (guitars), Arne (bass), Peter (drums) and Thomas (sax), recorded a demo and sent it to some record companies and wait for an answer. After a gig they were aproached by Slick Records and they signed them and quick a single was recorded and given to the many punk swimmers in 1981. Two '77 style numbers with snotty guitars and the female voice of Lisbeth give them additional listening. Slick planned an album with the band but Lisbeth went to Cyprus to concentrate on her painting and the band shortly split. Actually a pity because I think a LP would have been another killer. Well, that's life and they leave us with these two goodies. Superb!

ÅSKÅDARNA - För Det Är Kul EP 1980

🔊 Nice four track record by Åskådarna from Norrköping on Publik Skivor and the four musicians were Clas (vocals/guitar), Ilgot (guitars), Jan (bass), Mattias (drums) and this is their only release and they existed less then a year, free from the motto: the spicy lies in the brevity (or something like that)With about ten minutes playing time we enjoy decent, not rough, but melodic mid-tempo numbers that unfortunately didn't make it to any of the relevant compilations, even detectives have to go to sleep, and the band has not appeared anywhere else. You see, a rare piece of vinyl is waiting for affection. Came in an elaborate gatefold sleeve with lyrics on the inner side, probably less than 500 copies. Catchy Cool Stuff 🔊

SLAGGPRODUKT - The Awakened Dead EP 2020

Let's meet a completely new band for me; Slaggprodukt and they recorded a first demo in 2016. The band consists of Micke (vocals(guitars), Lasse (bass), Flarne (drums). And by the time the band released their second demo, Second D-Beat Attack, at the end of that same year, they already had quite a loyal following. With more demos and gigs, among them an opening slot to Napalm Death, its finally time for the bands first vinyl release and it came out via TPL Records, 300 copies and this five-track goodie features all new penned tracks written and recorded during 2019-2020. And we can look forward to a decent portion of hardcore with a slightly metallic touch and less crust noises and even I like their sound, and that means something.

D.N.A. - Retrospective 2018

I remember, that the Swedish combo D.N.A. was long on the Wanted list, many years ago, and the response has been astonishingly high. This is proven by the functional link to their first EP A Trip To The Land Of The Dead.... And Backfrom 1985. Black Konflik Records, a malay label, released this limited compilation with a red Obi strip gatefold CD in 2018, 500 copies, with more recordings of this wild and versatile band from Skövde. Unfortunately with no infos about the recordings (except who was playing), but I guess they were all made around the mid-eighties. But apparently all of the band's remaining songs are immortalized here, including those of their two EPs plus two live goodies. The quality is not the best, but enough for a purchase in your city or in the trainMega interesting in any case and very difficult to get. It’s good that these classics can see the light of day after so many years. Despite the rough edges and shit-fi quality, the anger in those releases is unconquerable. Real punk blast from the past. A solid retrospective of an era that marked the birth of the raw punk and d-beat genre.

THIS PERFECT DAY - Balcony Love 7'' 1990

It gets a bit poppier and quieter now, but no means boring, with the following unique sound and style. We're talkin' about This Perfect Day, a Swedish guitar-pop combo, formed 1987 in the northern town of Skelleftea and consisted of Mats (vocals), Rickard & Ove (guitars), Peter (bass), Johan (drums) and Ralph (drums 86-94). Useful infos: "The band pitched their first recordings on cassette to the local record company A West Side Fabrication with whom they were initially signed and released their first singles on vinyl and cassette. Following a gig at the Hultsfred Festival in 1991, the band moved to Soap Records and shortly afterwards their debut 'Rubber Soul' appeared and with this they quickly established themselves as part of the Swedish alternative guitar-pop scene. They toured extensively in Europe, Asia and N America up until 1998 during which their label had planned a compilation. This, however, ran into problems when MNW went through a turbulent phase and subsequently postponed the project. The band were ultimately victims of inner turmoil and disbanded after the Hultsfred Festival in 1998. 'Setting Things Straight' is a double CD, thirty-three track compilation, released in 2007 and gives the listener a broad and valuable insight into TPD's musical achievements."

P-NISSARNA - En Sanitär Olägenhet 2019

Likbas was released by the same label Ken-Rock (specializes in old swedish punk classics like Slyngel Rekords) as the following album by P-Nissarna and that is for sure a collector's edition in my opinion, because in 2004 came (only as CD) a compilation called Flumpungar via Swedish Punk Classics out and the songs partly overlap. This dittie was pressed in 500 copies on yellow, red and black vinyl (yellow 100, red 200, black 200) and you can discover tracks from the Jugend EP ('79), unreleased 1981 recordings, 1982 recordings which were later released by Really Fast Records as Världskrig III and four goodies from the Kalla Den Va Fan Du Vill compilation, released 2007 on CD via Ztar Records. Quick Info: P-Nissarna were one of the youngest bands with a real cult status from Falun. They were active in the years 1978 - 1982 and their lyrics were considered provocative at the time, and they still kick into many stupid pale moonfaces.

EASYBEAT - Julrock 7'' 1981

A request is comin' now which was left in the post from Easybeat's first EP Don't You Know weeks ago, briefly on the wanted list and now readyIn addition to this terrific record, they made two more before they spilt and both are in this file. Julrock is a short Christmas mid-tempo piece and the flip is about summer and all its advantages; driving, powerful, rousing, just like the season itself. Om Du Gör Mig Lycklig came then in 1986 and and with one more instrument and the slab sounds very poppy with its keyboards and both with significantly longer playing time. Rock back and forth to the rhythm of the music with your arms hooked under and give your girl a kiss. Hardly represented on compilations, so you have to do it yourself.

LIKBAS - Tell Me EP 2021

Now a fine record and let me immediately announce the liner notes from the insert because they make it clear: "Likbas was created as an aftermath of two previous influential Falu punk bands; P-Nissarna and Sloban Sloback, by Matts (vocals/guitars), Larsa (bass), Tomas (drums). Their music was more of a garage rock band with a nudge to NYC and Detroit scene, rather than an angry punk band. On a historical day in 1983, 27th of May, they entered Gävle Ljudstudio to record five tracks. Unfortunately no record was pressed from that session and then they eventually split up and the recording tapes were forgotten and stashed away. Now thirty-eight years later, a label known for its intrepid releases, namely Ken Rock, is keen of letting the world finally enjoy this unique recording. Matts have dug out the old 1/4" Reel-To-Reel recording tapes from the vaults and it has now got the final love and care it so deserve. The tracks can now be enjoyed on this striking 7Inch and the result sounds better than ever. The echoes of the past are here to stay!" And I would like to add; splendid, wild and loud music or in one word: Superb!

MAGNUM BONUM - Marie 7'' 1979

Now a XY unsolved slice by Magnum Bonum, formed early 1977 by five young boys aged 17-19 in Huddinge (near Stockholm); Lars Liström (vocals), Mats Hedström (guitar/vocals), Per Schiller (guitar), Anders (bass) & Kim Lindholm (drums). Their ambition was to make a record. The record companies were uninterested. In the end, the guys decided to pay for a record themselves with equity. Money was borrowed and studio time was booked in OAL Studios in Sollentuna. It became a single that was printed in up to 500 copies. The five scoring several chart successes in their country during the 1970s and 80's, their smash hit was "Skateboard", a cover of "LA Run", original recorded by the Carvells in 1977 and they reached out to the large audience. The song became a national that sold over 35.000 copies (Respect!). At the same time, they started recording the first album (it was urgent to release a record) called Crazy Feelings on Mercury. In 1980 Sjöberg was replaced by Tommy Erblom (bass). The boys had barely started working so the step to a professional music career was not far. The band was able to stop hunting gigs themselves at youth centers or schools. They got many chart hits over the years and in total, about ten singles and five entire albums were released. In the years 1978-1984, Magnum Bonum was a very popular live group and one of the groups that toured most frequently in Sweden and broke audience records during this time despite from all established and new artists/groups. Lead singer Lars tragically died in 1983 and the group disbanded one year later. Magnum Bonum was touring during the 90's together with Factory & Attack and more albums came out, the last Skott Från Gevär in 2013. Ferddisch. Much words for a rather average record!

LARZON - Hey Baby! EP 2020

Sweden’s Re-Ken Records digs up this gem by Larzon from Falun, an early eighties punk combo who never managed a release during their original lifespan and this is a re-release of their 1982 Cassette "Hey Baby!" or "Garanterad Motorsågsrock" and comes in an edition of 300 copies in green vinyl and four different colours for band name on front cover. The band consisted of Per (vocals/guitar), Roger (guitar), Ulf (bass), Kalle (drums) and their sound is rooted in seventies punk, particularly of the tougher variety. All five songs are great and worth hearing and after almost forty years still fresh and exciting. Another treasure finally rediscovered, keep it up! By the way, I'll take care of your re-upp requests next week.

STOPP - Håll Käft (Demo) 1991

Obscure two man combo from Mjölby with their only recordings, I guess and Stopp were Michael (vocals/bass) and Jonny (guitars/drums) and we enjoy five rough tracks with a voice which enjoy lots of alcoholica. Håll Käft means shut up and under this motto the other songs seem to follow, but I don't. My last visit there was about twenty-five years ago and my Swedish has been rusting ever since... well, there is not much to say about the two musicians, probably a fun project, google the band themselves and you will find little and nothing. Certainly not a musical virtuosity or highlight of excessive influence and probably distributed in small editions at concerts, I think. Overall not uninteresting and for tape collectors another welcome extra. Check it out!
