RATSIA - s/t LP 1979

Ratsia was originally formed in 1977 by Jyri (vocals/guitar), Juha (guitar), Rudi (bass, vocals) and Pasi (drums) and they were mostly playing Stooges & Ramones songs, but soon they started writing songs of their own, sung in English. The language was then switched to Finnish. Ratsia took part in the Finnish rock championship competition in 1979 and won in the "New Wave" genre! They were featured on the Hilse compilation with a song called 'Ihohygieniaa', a cover version of Breakdown by the Buzzcocks and many more. In the same year followed the band's debut album, released in fall with great melodic mid-tempo tunes (pretty the Clash cover of 48 Hours). Fourteen smasher all in all and if you really want to find something to complain about the album, you could say that it sounds too clean and February was way too warm. The band broke up in fall 1981.

DESPERATE CRY & BBS PARANOICOS - Monster 2XXX EP 2000

Interesting split EP on Jurassic Punk Records with two very cool bands: Desperate Cry from Austria shine with dynamic expressive hysterical and screamo vocals between emotional talk, groovy metallic hardcore and high-speed punk-attacks. BBS Paranoicos were founded 1991 in Santiago de Chile and they very popular in South America's Hardcore/Punk world. In Europe the band were known in the DIY-/Anarcho-Punk-Scene through their contribution on the "Standardsituationen 4" compilation EP. Later they released this 7Inch and a split album with EMS on Bloodshed666 Records plus a best of compilation "The History of BBS Paranoicos" on Paranoia! Recordings. Awesome Hardcore Stuff!!

Somehow I'm now with fast rough extrem hardcore on and I have the right compilation for you. Can't say much about the bands but most of them made a 7Inch, even an album or on compis representJust as well as Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.

PUBLIC ENEMY 23 - Burned By The Night 1985

This rare mini 12'' by Public Enemy 23 from Hamburg was released on Gabba Gabba Hey Records and the band consisted of Franky and Esther (vocals), Gale (guitars), Jenne (bass) and Fingers (drums) and I first came in touch with the band through a song on the blessed Slam-Brigade Haifischbar compilation via Weird System (1991). They rocked the clubs of the Reeperbahn in the 80s with their refreshing Punk'n'Roll in which they celebrated numerous Gassenhauer plus own goodies and which coat they gave them can you recognize by these six songs. I would say: Lost Little Nugget!

THE SUBHUMANS - Incorrect Thoughts 1980

This classic album is not new in Blogland but I listen now to it and it's so damn great. The Subhumans from Vancouver were formed in 1978 by Brian "Wimpy" Goble (vocals), Mike Graham (guitar), Gerry Hannah (bass) and Ken "Dimwit" Montgomery (drums). Shortly after their first single, Dimwit departed and was replaced by Koichi "Jim" Imagawa. This album was released via Friends Records and is decorated with fourteen flowers that smell very intensive and move through your nose up to the brain to trigger pleasant vibrations, a superb perfume! Afterwards, Hannah & Imagawa departed and were replaced by Ron Allan (bass) and Randy Bowman (drums). The new line-up signed with SST Records and recorded the "No Wishes, No Prayers" record in 1982. However, at the end of 1982, just prior to the record's release, the group split when Brian Goble left the band to join D.O.A. - On December 7, 2014, Brian Goble suffered a fatal heart attack, R.I.P. - You find lots of more excellent info about the band in the web, I must get back to Bundesliga to Hanover.

MINOR THREAT - Complete Discography 1989

A real treat comes from Washington and I guess you all know this great band. Minor Threat were formed 1980 in Washington by vocalist Ian MacKaye and drummer Jeff Nelson. MacKaye and Nelson had played in several other bands together, and recruited bassist Brian Baker and guitarist Lyle Preslar to form Minor Threat. They added a fifth member, Steve Hansgen, in 1982. The band was relatively short-lived, having disbanded after only four years together, but had a strong influence on the punk scene, both stylistically and in establishing a "do it yourself" ethic for music distribution and concert promotion. Minor Threat's song "Straight Edge" became the eventual basis of the straight edge movement, which emphasized a lifestyle without alcohol or other drugs, or promiscuous sex. I remember that I borrowed the Out Of Step slab from a friend and this music shot directly into my veins. The fabulous lyrics, the aggressive fast music and the way the four transports all that is almost unique und alive a fantastic valve to turn anger into positive energy. This release is a real damn blast!

PYHÄKOULU - Post Mortem 1988

Less words today, I'm tilt! This is great Hardcore stuff by Pyhäkoulu [Saku (vocals), Jani (bass), Läski (guitars), Olli (drums)] from Hämeenlinna, active from 1984 to 1990, made two albums and two 7Inches. A cream snack on Killed By Finnish Hardcore. Aloha!

FIENDENS MUSIK - Häftiga Hästen & Andra Äventyr 1980

Second and final album on Bellatrix by this band from Malmö and damn, they've defused their music a bit and the songs have a more poppy, almost boring sound or something like that, Swedish folk?? Compare these recordings with their first LP and you know what I'm talking about. Why do I post them anyway? Quite simply, why not. For one thing, Fiendens Musik is a good band, on the other hand there are certainly some of you who like this, doesn't always have to be hard, loud & fast, and the cover is great - Anyway, last one today but I promise tomorrow it will be nasty, enjoy the weekend!

- Special Thx to Fredrik -

LEATHERFACE / HOT WATER MUSIC - BYO Split Vol.1 1999

After six years of respite, Frankie Stubbs reformed Leatherface, it was inevitable because he needed to give musical expression to all of his thoughts. And before the skull burst, Leighton (guitar), David (bass), and Andrew (drums) were mobilized and out of over nineteen new songs, six were sent to BYO Records, who fell heartily off the chair, creating the idea of this mini-split serie, which immediately changed their minds and immediately a new fresh band was found for the flip, Hot Water Music from Gainesville, Florida which was formed 1993 by Chuck & Chris (both lead vocals & guitar), Jason (bass) and George (drums). Here's a perfect review by Jack Rabid (All Music Guide): "This split LP, recorded in three days in 1999, seems as miraculous as it is a godsend. Because they were one of those truly astonishing modern groups that spontaneously combusted in the midst of an attenuated creative peak, Leatherface's unexpected 1993 bust-up seemed particularly cruel. Thousands of scattered souls openly mourned when the news came down that the punk/post-punk powerhouse had vanished. Perhaps after listening to the sea of old live recordings and B-sides, Leatherface's members realized what they'd thrown away, buried what hatchets needed burying, and pulled a Lazarus. The sound of this new recording recalls the spark, the lift-off, and the balls-out clear smack of Mush and The Last. Though Frankie Norman Warsaw Stubbs' vocals are mixed just a little too low to totally match those older detonations -- you have to go down into the two guitars a little to find him, making the words harder to get -- it's still such a corker, it completely corrects the muddy mixes on Stubbs' Jesse and Pope albums. And though this record also finds the quartet retreating to a stylistic territory closer to Mush and Minx, backing away from the more adventurous turf of The Last, it's too intense and exciting to even remotely quibble with. That this unexpected recording is a reality is that rarest of things: a long-shot wish fulfilled. More recent American emo stars Hot Water Music surprisingly put up a good fight, trying to be in the same ballpark with Leatherface's ashen attack, but they lack a singer of Stubbs' caliber to be appearing on the same LP as him or a tightness in playing that takes one's breath away. Better to try them on their own records, because out of this context they would sound rather powerful." With that, all has been said and I recommend you to buy this fantastic melodic killer record by two fantastic bands.

THE REST - s/t LP 1986

Berlin had and has a very active underground scene and this rare piece is an excellent example of this. The Rest were Frieder (vocals), Ringo (bass), Dietmar (guitars) and Klaus (drums) and they released their only album via Destiny Records and contains seventeen fast killers, among them a cover of the Avengers 'We Are The One', 'Your Eyes' and 'Every Sperm' from Monty Python. They also guested on two great compilations of Destiny: Mutti's Muntere Melodei ('84) and What Doesn't Hurt Us Makes Us Stronger ('85). Frieder (known as frontman of Porno Patrol) sings in German and English and that expresses their aggressive lyrics more clearly I think, hallo VKJI guess in the same year the band broke up, Klaus later drummed at Die SeucheLet's punk my dear followers!

THE DRONES - Further Temptations 1977

Back to classics with the Drones, started out in the Manchester area in 1974 as a Glam Rock outfit called Rockslide, releasing a lone single 'Jump Bump Boogaloo/Roller Coaster' in October 1975, before reinvented themselves as a punk rock band the following year. The Drones then relocated to London and became one of the pioneering punk bands that performed in the first few months of the now-legendary Roxy Club. They supported The Vibrators in January 1977, headlined in February, and supported X-Ray Spex and Chelsea in March. Later that year they supported the Stranglers on a full UK tour, and appeared on two influential early punk compilation albums Streets and Short Circuit: Live at the Electric Circus. Their debut single, 'Temptations Of A White Collar Worker' (1977), was described by one reviewer as "classic dole-queue punk." In October 1977, their second single, 'Just Wanna Be Myself' / 'Bone Idol', was released, and on 6th December they recorded a session at Maida Vale 4 studio for John Peel. Later that month, they released their debut album on Valer Records, Further Temptations, a shoddily produced document of a highly underrated band, armed with angry lyrics and a sharp sense of humour fuelling fiery originals like ‘Lift Off The Bans' and 'No More Time'. It's was a great record but its release marked the beginning of the end for the band.

V/A - England Belongs To Me #3 1997

Third part of this damn cool mini-serie which came via 77 Records to us. Eighteen rare UK smasher from 1977-1982. I know a quarter of the songs, the rest is new and I guess that their 7Inches appeared on small short-lived labels, or self-released, in small editions. Very good compilation in any case and the first two volumes can be found on the Posts By Country section which I re-upped. England Belongs To Me is presentable and in total there exist four of them (all strictly limited, I guess 500-1000 were pressed). Excellent Friday sound!

THE CURE - London 03.12.1981

Can't say exactly where I got these beautiful recordings but the early concerts of The Cure are always a highlight for me because I grew up with them and they are still part of my life. Eighteen songs from their first four albums recorded here in a very good sound quality and it's amazing that they sound still fresh and audible at all times. Thanks to unknown for this pretty nostalgic dessert. Don't miss them in Melkweg/Amsterdam 2.12.1979 which is almost even better and further stuff on this Blog.

SLIME - Musa, Göttingen 04.10.2012

In 2012 entered Slime from Hamburg the stage again and in the baggage their new record which appeared almost twenty years after the Schweineherbst album. Of course I was curious and had to see them live (last was 1990 in the Fabrik). Although I did not like the new album very much, I was hot for the gig, especially as I wanted to hear the old classics. So we go to the Zoom and experienced a refreshing evening with lots of fun, beer and a band in an euphoric playing mood, as if they had never been away. Grandios! Now here are quite good recordings from their show in Göttingen, enjoy!

CIRCLE JERKS - Live @ The Fillmore 24.05.1982

Yeah, one more excellent live recordings from my favorite live band Circle Jerks. I had the luck to experience them twice and the gentlemen are giants with their energetic short, fast pieces. Of course, I have all the records until the VI, the last (Oddities, Abnormalities & Curiosities) is a disaster. Funny that I didn't digitize any of them, I should change. I recommend you another show at the Fabrik/Hamburg 02.12.1987 and as you know Keith is still active in the famous combo OFF! which was formed 2010, nor harder, furious, pissed hardcore and pure energyProof of this are recordings from a gig 2013 in Sydney which stumbles your speakers. Enough bla bla, fire-free for finest American Hardcore!

LOST KIDS - Live Copenhagen 2005

Ok, the response to yesterday's post is modest and I admit is a matter of taste. Let's start today's cold gray Sunday with an excellent live gig by the Danish Lost Kids which was recorded in Copenhagen. Connoisseurs know they have released two albums, some 7Inches and compilation tracks in the 80's and how it came to this concert eludes my knowledge. Anyway, the sound quality is excellent and powerful and presents the band in top form, was certainly a nice show. Good start for breakfast, continue ripping vinyl. BOTS - Aufstehn 1980

Now I present you my only Hippie record that I still own and do you know that too? You love a record at young age, then a change of life follows, you sort out your records, put the old stuff back and memories stop you from giving away the slab, so I feel with Aufstehn. When I think about how many times we have roared 'Sieben Tage Lang' I still get goose bumps today. Bots is folk rock group from the southern city of Eindhoven and were successful in the Netherlands and Germany, formed in 1974 by Hans Sanders and they initially published only songs in Dutch. The lyrics were predominantly political, socially critical, cynical and influenced by the peace movement of the seventies. After appearing at the festival Rock Gegen Rechts in Frankfurt/Main in June 1979 they received an offer to recorded their songs in German, well-known writers like Wolf Biermann, Dieter Hildebrandt, Hanns Dieter Hüsch, Hannes Wader and Günter Wallraff helped with the translations. In addition, the band were a few times guest in the GDR, first time 1976 for the Festival of the Political Song in East Berlin, where the group dedicated the song Sieben Tage Lang to poet Wolf Biermann, at the time for ten years a performance ban, last at the largest Open Air Festival of the GDR on 19 June 1988 on the Radrennbahn Weißensee in East Berlin. After the decline in popularity and the release of the Dutch album Paradijs in 1990, the members of the group retired to private life. Great songs are: Nichtsnutz, Der Mann & Krüppel. On 3 November 2007 Hans died at the age of 61.

APPETITE FOR NOTHING - Don't Kiss The Frog 1997

The small Piraeus label Wipe Out! Records give us this limited to 500 hand-numbered copies by this four piece which formed 1994 in Peristeri/Athens. They started playing as Αποκτήνωση and after two self-released demo cassettes they changed their name to "Ορεξη Για Τίποτα" ("Appetite For Nothing"). They released this full-length album and just before they disbanded in 1999 a last 7Inch with three goodies via Fes Ulopas Records in an edition of 300. The band consisted of Alexis (vocals + guitar), Eleftheria (vocals), Stephanos (bass) and Christos (drums)Twelve catchy mid-tempo böller with female/male vocals and I already know today where I spend my holidays this year :)

V/A - A Country Fit For Heroes 1&2 1994

A very cool re-release is this pretty round disc and both records were originally released in 1982 and 1983 by the legendary short-lived English label No Future Records and we all know the classics. On these both compilations we enjoy some bands which didn't made a record and some published their stuff that is in demand today. On this sucker we listen to twenty-four passionate, angry punk bashers which I would like to have experienced in Top Of The Pops, haha... After releasing twenty-nine singles and nine LPs, No Future folded.

1.The Future Must Be Ours - BLITZKRIEG
2.Die With Dignity - THE VIOLATORS
3.Government Stinks - THE VIOLATORS
4.Fight Back - HOSTILE YOUTH
5.Government Downfall - THE SAMPLES
6.Jerusalem - ONE WAY SYSTEM

14.Nurse Nurse - PATROL
15.Blood Mania - MANIA
16.Did He Or Didn't He - GOVERNMENT LIES

ASIA - s/t LP 1982

Today I just want to bring you a fantastic album closer what I gladly regulary dig out and me kicks back to my youth and nostalgic moments create. With that everything is already been said and now I rip the vinyl, I know it's a bit commercial but I like the damn music. A bit info: Asia are an English rock band formed in London 1981 and the most commercially successful line-up was its original, which was a supergroup of four members of different progressive rock bands of the 1970s: lead vocalist and bassist John Wetton of King Crimson and U.K., guitarist Steve Howe of Yes, keyboardist Geoff Downes of Yes & the Buggles and drummer Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Their eponymous self titled debut album gained considerable commercial success, spending nine weeks at number one on the United States album chart and selling over four million copies in the States alone. The album sold over ten million worldwide and has never been out of print. In the United States the band sold out every date on their debut tour, which began at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York on 22. April 1982, continued in theatres but quickly expanded into massive arenas because of high ticket demand. Asia would go on to receive a Grammy Award nomination as Best New Artist of 1982. Both Billboard & Cash Box named Asia's debut the #1 album of the year. Well, maybe one or two of you stores similar memories with this record and share it with me, I'm curious... sad words at the end, John Wetton died in his sleep from complications of colorectal cancer at the Macmillan Unit at Christchurch Hospital in Christchurch/Dorset, on 31 January 2017. What remains: unforgotten songs of another time.

HLM GANG - Local Sessions 1981-1982

Great never before released record by this fabulous early Swiss Punk outfit from Lausanne! This superlimited LP was privately released by the band and is limited to just 300 copies only. The first 100 copies came with numbered backcover (of which the first twenty-five copies were signed by the band). HLM Gang were existing from 1978 - 1983. They were one of the few classic early Swiss Punk bands to never release a record. Their lineup was consisting of Paquito (guitar), Nenel (vocals), Zaf (drums, backing vocals), and Ptit Jos (vocals/bass). HLM were sharing the stage with Discolokosst (Geneva), Sub Rescue (Lausanne), The Debils (Biel), Marionetz (Munich/Germany), Baramine (Valais), TNT (Zurich), Technycolor (Geneva), Mother's Ruin (Zurich), Starshooter (Lyon, France) and and and... as well as with several other classic punk bands. About three years after the breakup of HLM, PTIT JOS and ZAF (a.k.a. CLode) went on to form the fairily well known minimalistic electronic post Punk duo I SCREAM. Finally thirty years after the forming of HLM, we are in for a real treat in form of this historic LP of previously unreleased 1981-1982 tracks by the main Lausanne Punk band from the first two generations. The songs on this album speak for themselves, and are still as important today as they used to be back when they were recorded. Great!!!!!

COMMANDO 9MM - Commando 1990

Before football starts a visit a short visit to the Iberian peninsula. Their third album, simply titled Commando, was recorded in 1989 and come out at independent label called Tirana, owned by band manager Pito. In 1990, the CBS label was interested and published the same year the album with terrible consequences for the group, as Sony bought CBS and restructured the entire business, discarding everything that they were not interested. This album is currently out of print and very hard to find (discogs/ebay more than €140,-!!!!), because the record had a bad distribution. This fact and cause internal disagreements the band first split in 1991. This shows once more that the major labels are only profit oriented and thus the artist into a corner. Fuck Them!!! But apart from these asses Commando 9MM have ignited with their third longplayer another atomic bomb. Already their debut Amor Frenopatico from 1986 lit at first time, tiptop melodic mid-tempo punk rock as I like and always listen in my car... wonderfully soothing. As well here appear eleven more pearls in this direction which I like almost better. The sound is better by miles and the goodies sound more mature. 'Camino Hacia La Ruina', 'Annie, Annie', 'Cuidado Con Los Lunes' or 'Chica Medicinal', 'Mi Amigo Jack' are songs for eternity and while I write these lines the record goes through for the third time. 100% addictive, honest! If this music's not infect you, you are definitely disturbed. Would be interested what you think. Salut!

THE DECEASED - Death Trip 7'' 1985

Long ago that I posted a 7Inch and now a little rare thing by rather unknown Punk band from Wigan, Lancashire/England called The Deceased which were active 1979-1984 and members were Gassy (vocals), Hatty (guitar/bass), Poddy (bass), Eddie (drums) and this is their only record. After two demos Insane Records grabbed them on their 1983 compi I've Got Those Demo-Lition Blues! where they open the slab with one song. A few tape contributions followed until finally the French label New Wave Records used another one for the ingenious 1984 The Second (I think I have that) album and then they also pressed this little piece. Death Trip is an excellent mid-tempo tune with nice distorted guitars plus solo and Consumer Addict is a cool slower stomper. Round thing that!

V/A - Russia Bombs Finland 1982

The perfect sound for a Monday comes today from Finland, more precisely by Helsinki's Propaganda label (specializes mainly in Finnish hardcore, punk and much more) that gave birth to this fantastic compilation over thirty-seven years ago and has not lost any of its hardness and fresh sound in my opinion. All bands are likely known to every maniac of fast-paced short songs, you can find some records in the blog, and for those who want to discover this heart attack noises for themselves this record is an excellent start, I promiseAnd if you don't have enough of this plenty harsh stuff I recommend you the essential Killed By Finnish Hardcore compilation by Redrum Records... b.t.w. the first 500 copies came partly with booklet which I don't have.
