V/A - Killed By Florida 1998

"The music on this record was and is of no Consequence. The fact that we'd press this record gives you some kind of idea in what esteem we hold the tastes of its potential audience and what kind of value we place on our own time and energy. So, with heads hung low, we timidly present to you Killed By Florida." A whole album from Florida is stretching things just a bit. This one extends the usual KBD period up to 1985, including some awesome punk bands. The inclusion of the world's greatest, amazing and most incredible punk band ever (The Eat) is alone worth to get this bootleg collection. Also the other bands here kick strong every fat ass and shred purely good. Again many more rarities for our little punk hearts on it and definitely worthwhile. For me, a further evidence that a KBD volume always requires a financial investment, LOL!

V/A - Abcess Exil m.fl. 1984

Saturday morning it's time for another rare swedish compilation which is released by Kakaphone/Folk & Rock Records with a none album name. Anyway, this record is a small collection of four gothenburg bands with each three songs and the music here is a pretty dark new wave sound (except for the last three tracks, they are fuckin 'punk rock and the band name is brilliant), sometimes with violin and all four bands do this very cool. Cortex, Abcess Exil & Bumsen Muss Mann released a few records while Mystikens Vacuum only here present. Warning!!!!: If you want tracks as great as the best '77 Punk hits you won’t find them here. Exposing so many unknowns to the light of day is a good cause. A solid collection, it’s worth at least a listen.

1.Silent Retriever - CORTEX
2.Dance The Cancer - CORTEX
3.No Connections - CORTEX
4.Vi Hade Drömmar - MYSTIKENS VACUUM
5.Trött På Livet - MYSTIKENS VACUUM

G.B.H - Leather, Bristles, Studs & Acne 1981

I have long considered to post this classic because a) everyone has it and b) it's available with bonus tracks. But today, after more than two years sleepin' on my hard drive I'm now in G.B.H temper and that's good. Long time ago I've been listen to this classic and this is a must for anyone who calls himself a punk. Nine songs full of energy which were not recorded as before. G.B.H made an important step towards into an angry, fast and furious powerful hardore/punk sound and influenced a raft of young bands. Their debut 12'' is for me one of the best UK punk records. Issued as mini album by Clay Records in 1981 and spent thirteen weeks in the Indie Chart, eventually peaking at No.8. A little info for those who need it: G.B.H (Grevious Bodily Harm) are an English hardcore punk band, formed 1978 in Birmingham by vocalist Colin Abrahall, guitarist Colin "Jock" Blyth, bassist Sean McCarthy and Drummer Andy "Wilf" Williams. G.B.H were early pioneers of English street punk, along with Discharge, Broken Bones, Exploited, and The Varukers. They have gone on to influence several punk rock musicians. G.B.H the name was inspired by then-bassist Sean McCarthy's trial for grevious bodily harm. They have tons of 7inches and albums out and they're still active. This is G.B.H at their best and let's enter the weekend!

STROBIC AXE - Hör Einmal Zu! 1980

Endlich Feierabend after a long fuckin' day and I listen to this unique record by a band from Ontario where I think not many of you know something about them. Well, in February 1979, Strobic Axe came out of the basement. Michael Bell (vox), John Crown (drums), Rick Kemp (bass) and Alex Stangl (guitar) played a raucous set of original songs, peppered with just enough Cheap Trick and David Bowie to mesmerize a captive audience at an assembly in the school gymnasium. The boys were hooked. From that gig until their last in December of 1981 the band played the bars and outdoor summer festivals of Southern Ontario. In February 1981, managed by Rob Franke, they released their only full length titled Hör Einmal Zu!. Weird why they chose a German title for their record and I don't know the details, maybe the label is a German one, Ilse Platter, maybe the influence of mananger Rob was the reason, in the end anyway. Fact is, 'Hör Einmal Zu!' is a solid rock punk album with variety and not typical for what I know from Canada. Eleven interesting classics on it, plus one live goodie which shows the wild & rough site of the boys. In 1981 came to a close, the band played one last midnight dance in Hastings/Ontario to a packed pavilion. Drugs, underage drinking, unrestrained egos and manic-depressive illness were shutting down the dream, whatever it was, the Strobic Axe story was over. So enjoy now thirty-eight minutes of rare pure 80's sound from the maple country.

NOLLA NOLLA NOLLA - s/t LP 1984

000 (or Nolla Nolla Nolla) was a punk band from Helsinki and they were founded in autumn 1979 and disbanded in April 1982. They released not much, only an EP in 1981 and this full length album in 1984. The band members were the singer-songwriter Jore Vastelinin, Ykä Knuuttila (drums), Make Timonen (guitar), Haba Ehrström (bass guitar) and Pete Ehrström (guitar). The bands rehearsal place was a bomb shelter in Mountain High Street. Prior to the break the band toured with Recession and Neurovision With Bats called the willingly tour. In 1984, the band reconvened to record their album "Zero Zero Zero". In 1996, the label Beta released 'Here Today, Gone Tomorrow', a collection, which included the band's entire recordings plus a few previously unreleased demos and live performances. Powerloaded album as I love it from Finland.

DIE UNBEKANNTEN - s/t 12'' 1982

Now a rare gem from the heart of Europe: Die Unbekannten (The Unknown) were formed in June 1981 by two ex-pat Brits living in Berlin, Mark Reeder & Alistair Gray, for the legendary "Konzert zur Einheit der Nation" (Concert for the Unity of Germany) held in the SO36 club in Kreuzberg on 17th June 1981. They recorded this first successful vinyl shortly afterwards for Elisabeth Recker's Monogam label. This controversial three track sucker also featured their friend Thomas Wydler (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds) on drums. It was a collection of gloomy & politically themed songs, such as the cold-war classics "Radio War", "Casualties" and "Poseidon" (a bi-lingual song in English and German, about the sinking of a Poseidon nuclear submarine). After selling a few thousand copies the record was culled from the shelves. Oh folks.... I need finally my vacation.. Blurrghhh!

MEGADETH - Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? 1986

It's time for one more Metal goodie and we sail across the ocean to Los Angeles and visit Megadeth. This is their 2nd album and unfortunately I have this already flogged so this is also not my rip but I listen often to it in my long hair days, haha.... because it's a good one. Especially the title track and Black Friday have real power and in my opinion, one of the best recordings. A little info: The group was formed in 1983 by guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson, shortly after Mustaine's dismissal from Metallica. That's it, read for yourself elsewhere. Important: they still active and bang their heads until it falls. I don't know whether it really makes sense to continue postin' more metal stuff, so most of my records are sold or somewhere and I will not publish any other rip. Hmmm, what you're thinking?

THE BUCKS - Brave & Stupid 1981

Well, I'm finished with re-upps of two Swiss bands so I could post an extra from the alp area now: After the split of Expo (ex-Nasal Boys) the two original members Rams (bass) and Päde (drums) formed the Bucks (inspired by the British female trio The Slits) and after constant touring they released their first record on Disctrade in 1981. Too many negative experiences in connection with the music industry (the band was under contract by Major CBS, who give them the clever name Expo - Nasal Boys was too offensive, haha..) were crucial for the band resolution in 1978. Not necessarily to describe the Bucks as frustration project, but one thing was clear: they wanted to avoid the market-strategic mechanisms and create their own style and the result is awesome punk'n'roll till you drop and their music and lyrics reflect what can be moved or be moving here and today. All in all they have released six albums and the Bucks still exist today!

JESUS COULDN'T DRUM - Er, ...Something About Cows 1985

Not really punky but Jesus Couldn't Drum play a decent new wave/synth-pop/experimental mix, band from the UK and I've acquired this record during my vacation in 1998 in Funen/Denmark in a cool record store called Moby Dick. I don't know why, but I never heard anything by the band and probably it was the cool band name and the funny cover which led me. Jesus Couldn't Drum consisted of two friends from Brighton, Peter "Pengwyn" Williams and Jonathan "Staines" Lemon and their main period of work stemmed from about 1984 to 1987 and both like humor and that album was a mixture of songs and "skits" (I think with "This Is Fun" is the shortest punk song ever written). Originally this piece of vinyl includes a flexi (500 copies) so don't buy one without and finally this album is really jolly good, mal was anderes oder....? Releaseed on Lost Moment Records.

EBBA GRÖN - Live EP 1978

Well here I have a short but cool bootleg from swedens punk veterans Ebba Grön. Four rough songs all in all in an acceptable sound quality and I wish I could hear more of that certainly famous gig. Zero information on the cover or labels, except that the recordings were taken on Jun 21, 1978 in Långholmsparken in Stockholm. I bought this little fucker for € 5, and again a good deal. So enjoy these awesome rare stuff and play it loud!

Mitnehmen!

- Big Thx to Reinhard -

SUPERVAMP - Ballroom Blitz 7'' 1988

Ballroom Blitz is a song written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman and originally recorded by the British rock band Sweet (better known as The Sweet) and a lot of bands covered this sucker. Supervamp were formed 1988 in Vienna and they released their groovy version as single on JMS Records. They were originally a girl band, over the years came to three male musicians, their sound goes from rock over funk and there music was present in the Austrian radio. They toured through Austria, Germany and Russia. More is not known and I think this single is their only release. The b-side is an instrumental version. They disbanded in December 1992.

WANNSKRÆKK - Riff (1980-85) 1992

Punk band from Trondheim, founded in 1979. The band had a precursor in Chloroform and was founded by Per Christian "Persia" Iveland (bass) and Kjartan Kristiansen (guitar). These two put together the group, and got out to Per-Øyvind "Prepple" Houmb (vox) after having tried a different vocalist, Kare "Gisse» Olsen played drums, and Kaare Summer was at first as second guitarist aboard. Wannskrækk had their first gig at Angelltrøa Fritidsklubb in 1979 and in 1981 they recorded their legendary debut EP 'Faen Kuler Treffer Aldri Riktig' followed by the s/t 12'' one year later, two absolute punk blasts which gained a cult following. After years of touring and the very positive reviews in the press over the country the band, however, came to a provisional end. Then in 1988 they released a split album with Liliedugg which contains live songs and the sound goes more into rock style. The Norwegian punk and alternative label Oh No! Records released in 1992 this compilation which contains their first both releases plus a few live tracks.
And here it is: great '77 punk lullabies and you will love it!

V/A - Killed By Death #22 1998

Nothing new but now a post from my former blog. Always satisfied when I listen to a compilation when every song hits the fan and with the KBD series I do nothing wrong. This damn sucker takes possession of the world, from the United States to Japan and the quality is top notch! 500 copies are pressed on black vinyl with white & black labels. A shame it's so hard to find. Everything is fairly brilliant and the makers did again a very great job. More KBD stuff comin' soon so come back and get yourself a fuckin' beer!

V/A - Swiss Wave The Album 1980

All right folks, it's time for a compilation this month and let's move to the Swiss area and enjoy one of the first releases from Off Course Records and this is a decent mix of punk and powerpop. There exist many re-releases and you can read a lot of infos on the discogs page, which label, year, etc..... most of the songs appear on the bands album or 7Inches but these are the original recordings what makes this platte very rare, a good overview about the Swiss underground scene at that time. The label is one of my favourite Swiss one with lots of rare records nowadays. Volume 2 came three years later out on Astan Records, don't know this, someone?

1.Eisbär - GRAUZONE
2.Raum - GRAUZONE

ROSTOK VAMPIRES - Boring Old Fart EP 1990

Before I leave home a short visit in North Rhine-Westphalia and meet the Rostock Vampires, based in Dortmund already exist since the midst of the eighties. After several line-up-changes they started the new way at New Year's Day 1988 in West-Berlin. This second EP was released via Nuclear Blast Records and shines with three metallic punk rock tunes. This great band is relative unknown for many people and it is really a pity because their sound deserve more attention in my opinion. Check them out and I recommend their first album Transylvanian Disease, it's a real stunner.

BIKINI KILL - I Like Fucking 7'' 1995

Riot Grrrl from the States: Bikini Kill, Hell Yeah! - I like their dirty punish sound!! Great Combo which released a few awesome albums and all are great. Here's a little appetizer and after listen you want more. Go and buy their records if you have the chance. Two killer tunes here. No doubt, both songs kick ass, that's it! A little info: The band formed in Olympia/Washington in October 1990, by Kathleen Hanna (vocals), Billy Karren (guitar), Kathi Wilcox (bass), and Tobi Vail (drums). They began working together on a fanzine called Bikini Kill and, with the addition of label founder Go Team guitarist Billy Karren, formed a band of the same name and they began to write songs. After an independent demo cassette called "Revolution Girl Style Now!", Bikini Kill released their s/t EP on the indie label Kill Rock Stars. The band's debut album 'Pussy Whipped' was released in 1993 and the band toured through Europe. In 1994 Riot Grrrl was receiving constant attention in the media, and Bikini Kill were increasingly referred to as pioneers of the movement. Hanna called for a "media blackout" amongst Riot Grrrls, as they felt the band and the movement were being misrepresented by the media. The band's final album was Reject All American (1996). After breaking up in 1997, a collection of singles were released only on vinyl between 1995 to 1996, called The Singles.

UHF - Ares E Bares De Fronteira 12'' 1983

Of course, Portugal is now following and since I don't know many punk bands from the Atlantic state so once again something by my favorite band from Almada. UHF already since 1979 active and very famous in their country, not surprising with their beautiful melodic Power Pop Rock, in their early days with fine punk goodies but increasingly with more ballads which always inspire me. Simply music for beautiful moments together (maybe you have these). This mini-album with five jewels was released via Rádio Triunfo and was made to play loud, I wish you all a sunny sunday and exciting new encounters.

ESCALATORS - Ascenseur 7'' 1980

Today's the final match in Paris so I thought a post a little nice Powerpop goodie from the Escalators with their only record on CBS Records. About the band nothing's found but the two tracks are excellent, one typical mid-tempo number on the a-side while the flip starts with a fine subtle reggae groove and goes with tempo out. A dynamic small piece of plastic that kills my damn hangover.

CHIN CHIN - Stop! Your Crying 12'' 1986

Once more Chin-Chin, a Swiss girl wave/punk rock band from Biel/Switzerland, active from mid to late 80s and put out this last record on Farmer Records in 1986. Karin (guitar/vocals), Esther(bass/vocals) and Marie-Anne (drums/vocals), and at the time experience wasn't needed, it was the desire to play. Technical ability was a bonus, a hunger to perform a must. So, although Esther and Marie-Anne had experience as singers for local band Sophisticated Boom Boom, neither had actually played bass or drums respectively before. Similarly, while Karin had some training in classical acoustic guitar, she'd never been in a band or played electric guitar before. It was veteran Swiss punk-rock band SOZZ that gave the eager girls their first break, letting them practice in their rehearsal room and lending them guitars and drum kit until they could afford their own and in November 1983, Chin-Chin played their first gig at the AJZ/Coupole in Biel. Three smashing noisy power-pop-wave-punk songs here from this Swiss trio and its always a pleasure listen to it.

TRIPPLE CRIPPLE - Rensar Stan EP 1981

Damn rare record by this four piece combo from Uppsala, they existed between 1980 - 1981 and members were Daniel (vox), Tomas (guitars), Bengt (bass) and Ola (drums). In their short lifetime, they have not worried much furore, the few gigs they played were exclusively in Uppsala and the surrounding area, nevertheless their EP is a real musical highlight with six wonderful '77 punk crashers, released on Quasimodo Records. First song I hear from the band was via the Killed By Death #50 compilation which is full with extremely rare swedish punk records from 1978-1982, an essential record and the song "Born To Fuck" is a real smasher. I would describe their sound as funny punk'N'roll, a nice folk sax instrumental in the middle, the rest is also strumming. Another song was used for the Powerpearls Vol.10 comp. and with "Ung & Grymm" on Svenska Tonårsgrupper Vol.3 one which is not here included. Fazit: Decent plate that is still good & fun.

- Many Thx to Fredrik -

ZOUNDS - Go All The Way EP 2005

This band we always love listen to.... awesome melodies mixed brilliant lyrics and they released finally their second album 'The Redemption Of Zounds' in 2011 with tracks commenting on the USA's War on Terror. There are already six years ago since they released this EP with three tracks but the time was right for this. Zounds are an English anarchist band formed in 1977 from loose jamming sessions around the Reading area. Originally they were part of the cassette culture movement, releasing material on the Fuck Off Records label, and were also involved in the squatting and free festival scene. The name of the band is derived from the old English minced oath coined by William Shakespeare: "zounds", which is a contraction of "God's Wounds", referring to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ, formerly used as a mildly blasphemous oath. The band released their first album The Curse Of Zounds! on Rough Trade Records in 1981, recording and mixing the LP within five days. Since their early 1980s heyday, and despite endless offers to record a tour, Zounds have only ever played intermittently. So you can say what you want, Zounds is delicious and it's impossible not talk about them if you think of Punk from the UK. Get all their stuff you can find and check out their second album.

COCKS IN STAINED SATIN - Vollsuff EP 1984

Debut EP on Clorex Records by this great Frankfurt rockers. A clutch of punk and thrash songs, raw, speedy and funny. Brilliant KBD stuff!! Bernd Hasenfus, drummer, and later DER DURSTIGE MANN died sadly in 2009. Therefore on 24/07/2009 was a "bernd memorial evening" in the Elfer Club here in Frankfurt, where well-known local heroes (COPY CATS, BORNHEIM BOMBS, DER DURSTIGE MANN and COCKS IN STAINED SATIN) gave honor to him, my ever beloved girl and I enjoyed this unforgetten charming evening. - Six songs, all cool!

THE STEMS - Make You Mine 7” 1985

A little 7Inch from down under from The Stems, an alternative rock band formed in Perth in 1983. They were founded by Dom Mariani in late 1983. The Stems are heavily influenced by 1960s garage rock and 1970s power pop. The band initially broke up in August 1987 and reformed in 2003 releasing a new album in 2007. Although the group disbanded in October 2009, in April 2013 they performed preliminary their last shows at the Dig It Up! festival in Sydney and Melbourne. In their active time they released three albums and some singles, this here is the debut with two ordinary rock numbers in which side-a the better goodie is, released via Citadel Records. I'm still tired and tomorrow maybe more.

DEADLOCK - Ambicja 1981

Puuhhhhh, what an exciting evening yesterday and I'm completely through, wanted nothing post today but now I'm sitting here and listen to this record by polish Deadlock, founded 1979 in Gdansk by guitarist Macieja "Brunet" Wiliński, bassist "Kołacz" (which soon exchanged Jacek "Fidel" Tobias), drummer Jacek "Luther" Lenartowicza and vocalist Bogdan "Plexi" Rzeźniczak. The club "Medic" organized early 80s many concerts and Deadlock had their appearance there, among others. After some line-up changes the band moved to Warsaw and recorded the songs for Ambicja, released by the French label Blitzkrieg Records in the same year. They had again some line-up changes, played gigs, made songs for compilations (Best Perfumes Of The Revolution) and in 1983 the band broke up. In 1985, Brunet committed suicide by jumping out of a window in Gdansk and in 2004 died drummer JacekHere are now eight charming songs in a nice rehearsal room character... and I lay myself in bed again.. puhhhhh!

CRISIS - @ Surrey University 10.05.1980

So, dear ones. I soon leaving home for my friends to see the German team against Italy later and I have to buy some grill food and Äppler for a nice BBQ. I'm already a little drunk and linger one more bit in bed. Now to Crisis and this is a live recording from their final gig and was transfer via tape, so the recordings are not in CD quality but acceptable. Crisis started out in the late 70s with the rise of the British hardcore punk movement. They were at the forefront of the political take on punk, all of their songs being about the state of the UK and its government and anti Nazism (which will get interesting). They release several singles which all great in my opinion and one album which is rather mediocre. Anyway, here are pure twelve rough goodies showing how great they were. After Crisis, bands Death In June, Sol Invictus and others came from the wreckage.

THE LAST WORDS - s/t LP 1980

This nugget is a damn highlight on vinyl in my opinion, the only full length by the Last Words - an early punk band from Sydney/Australia - which was released via Armageddon records. They played + recorded in Sydney and London from 1977 to 1980. The band comprised Malcolm Baxter (vocals), Andy Groome (guitar), Leigh Kendall (bass) and John Gunn (drums). The band's first single, 'Animal World' had a cult following. The band were among the first who experiment with dub music, recording with Adrian Sherwood in 1980. Discover thirteen excellent mid-tempo punk tunes with dirty guitars, clean voice, simple chords and in an reasonable length and so should punk sounding, it must not always fast & aggressive... the absolute killer track at the end of the record is the circa nine minute cover of Jefferson Airplane's 'White Rabbit', simply delicious, you must listen to this... Perhaps to mention: In 1979 Kendall played guitar on the Punks Are The Old Farts Of Today EP (Rock-O-Rama Records RRR 001) by German punx Vomit Visions (could post it if anyone is interested) beginning a series of collaborations between members of the two bands... real obliquely! Well, enough useless words. Interesting: a retrospective album called The Last Words 1977-1980 was released in 2007 on Retro Records.

STENGTE DØRER - Hver Dag Er En Perfekt Dag 1989

In 1988 the band released their great debut album Sangen Om Vår Vidunderlige Verden on the German label Double A Records and then they went on tour in Germany and Belgium. After the so-called "Blitz-Route" the band recorded their second album "Every Day Is A Perfect Day" which was released again on Double A and includes a printed booklet with lyrics in Norwegian, English and German. I call it a good idea. Stengte Dører is Hardcore/Punk from Oslo, all fourteen songs, similar with their debut record, dominated by fat guitars with slightly metallic elements, an excellent and varied drummer, pretty bass-lines and a singer who express his feelings clearly with a rough and "drunken" voice. An absolute hammer platte and by the way; the production is a little more clearly than on their first vinyl. In 1992 Stengte Dører leave the stage with their last EP "Siste Reis". Farewell!!!

TOM PETTINGS HERTZATTACKEN - s/t LP 1982

Start July with Tom Pettings Hertzattacken, an Austrian rock band were founded in 1980 by Eberhard Forcher and in 1983 they land an Austropo hit with "Bis Zum Himalaya". Shortly after its founding, the band had their first gig in Amerlinghaus/Vienna. In June 1980 the band has with 'Tonight' a goodie on the Donaustrand EP compilation and the following year with 'Radio Radio' on the compilation Wienmusikk from the Schallter label. The band toured Austria and Bavaria, released a few 7inches and 1982 their s/t debut album, again at Schallter Records which was recorded at Gorilla Studio/Wien in October 1981. Their sound is a typical mix of NDW pop with a dash of punk rock what is especially reflected in the lyrics (you know the wonderful melancholic Austrian language???). And that's what makes the platte!!!!  Thirty-Seven minutes shallow pop: cozy, fluffy and with 'Deine Augen' a real blast on it. Cool record in any form. In 1985 the band broke up after the release of the album "Echo Der Liebe" under the name Tom Petting & Die Silhouetten.
