V/A - Killed By Sunshine 2019

Part VI of my small serie 'Rare German Underground', this time with stuff from the Eighties, taken again from rare Demos, Singles & Albums and first of all, my sincere thanks! to Reinhard which gave me this cute part brimming with rare German underground 1981-1989 for my little series available and thus you and me a little joy. The title came to mind when I was busy with a Killed By Death compilation and had already finished the cover, but now I find its a little stupid, I had other ideas but since I don't write anything down I've forgotten, no matter, the artwork pleases and you can see my first Iro at the tender age of, well ... I believe a year. As always your opinion interests me and I am grateful for many comments. The next part will come and until then I wish you a pleasant listening hereby.

ALLER VÆRSTE! - Materialtretthet 1980

Half-time in Hoffenheim and the fuckin' FCB leads with two goals, it seems the chief floor has stabilized. Well, let's come to the Aller Værste!, a Norwegian new wave/ska band from Bergen of the early 80's, which started out as a hobby project by four members of long-forgotten group Johnny Banan Band, members were Chris Erichsen (vocals/guitar), Ketil Kern (drums), Sverre Knudsen (bass/organ), Lasse Myrvold (vocals/guitar/organ) and Harald Øhrn (bass/vocals/organ). Apparently big with John Peel at the time, their debut Materialtretthet on Den Gode Hensikt won a Spellemannspris (Norwegian grammy) in 1980. The group disbanded after their second record, Disniland I De Tusen Hjem. Not easy to describe their sound because typical Ska sounds different but remarkable is the fiepsende organ that reminds me of the DoorsTAV! was part of the punk boom without playing punk. They kept going for a two-year period and released two albums - yet they have an indisputable and central place in Norwegian rock's history and development over the past twenty-five years. Also on numerous compilations and one plus an EP (listen) are in this theatre, meanwhile 1:2.

RESTOS DE NADA - s/t LP 1987

Excellent debut of Brazilian punk rock band Restos De Nada, originally released in 1987 and reissued in 2002 by the same label Devil Records. Some of the songs were written in the late 70's (except "Direito Á Preguiça", which was written 1982), the instrumental largely composed by guitarist Douglas Viscaino, while the album cover was designed by the members themselves, Douglas and Ariel - the latter being the lead singer of the band on the album. The last track, this is a live recording of the band of 1979, placed as a bonus track. It is considered by many the first band of Brazilian punk (!). The band was formed by important leaders of the punk movement in Brazil, such as Clemente (Condutores De Cadáver and Inocents) & Ariel (from the first phase of the Inocents later Invasores De Cérebro). Unfortunately, I sold the record so forgive the flimsy scans.

V/A - Thesaurus #2 (Rock/Punk En France 1977-1979)

Second Volume of Thesaurus on Cameleon Records with rare goodies of the early French punk era, cobbled together on a double album with deatiled infos on the gatefold sleeve (unfortunately not within and I would be pleased about good scans)In addition to well-known songs that are almost always found contains this compilation many, for me, new interesting bands which made only a 7Inch or a demo but the numerous French posts in this blog make clear how big the underground scene was in this country and not only focussing on punk, also decent rock'n'roll comes from there and also wave, post-punk or garage stuff (see Volume 1), bla bla bla..... And now: open ears for twenty-eight glorious stars and have fun browsing the singles, should one be down leave a comment, I'll fix it immediately.

CRISIS - The Guilty Have A Past 2004

This unofficial compilation by State Laughter Records is full with fourteen nuggets and we talkin' about Crisis, a band which was formed 1977 in Guildford, a large town in Surrey, with the lineup of Phrazer (vocals), Lester Jones (lead guitar), Douglas Pearce (guitar), Tony Wakeford (bass) and Insect Robin (drums) and they released in their short lifetime three great singles and a mini-LP. "Crisis adopted slower tempos and concentrated more on the atmosphere and tension of the music rather than just making a loud, generic thrash. In many ways, by 1978 they were already dabbling in a style which, much later on, would be referred to as Post-Punk, not a million miles away from early Joy Division or The Ruts’ moodier moments." In early 1979, the band underwent a major change in personnel when Phrazer and Insect Robin were replaced by Dexter (a longtime fan and roadie) and Luke Rendle. After performing their last show, supporting Magazine and Bauhaus in their hometown of Guildford @ Surrey University 10.05.1980, the band broke up.

V/A - Killed By Finnish Hardcore 2003

We travel far into the north of Europe to the land of 1000 lakes, dense forests and icy temperatures. Numerous famous hardcore/punk bands enriched us with terrific records and on this little compilation thirty of them are selected and was assembled by three American fans of Finnish Hardcore. "We did this out of our love of the music and to expose these records, which are not widely known outside of Finland to a wider audience. We would like to think we are helping expose these bands to a new geneartion of punx, making it possible for bands to re-issue more classic material. 2000 copies were pressed, comes with detailed info sheet". Thx for that and now enjoy raw, rare Hardcore 1981-1985.

CHUZPE - Anarchy Bla Bla 2011

Chuzpe were the first Austrian punk band. Born in 1977, they were really popular in the Vienna's underground circuit. Their early tracks are a marvellous examples of europunk at the same level of Kids, Ivy Green, Panic etc.. This anthology contains all studio tracks recorded between 1977-80 (the punk years of the band). In the sleeve notes, we read a very amusing relationship with a concert by the Viennese newspaper "Falter": "At eight o'clock the concert begins, the sound is totally zero, the singer incomprehensible, probably because of the borrowed material . A few minutes later the first punks start to "dance". A gang of bikers disrupt the concert screaming "When will you play music?" Raüdig, the singer, says "it is not Deep Purple." another shout "I do not understand a word of what you sing." Raüdig answers "How well you understand the words, you will probably not understand their meaning." the bikers started throwing cups, including the tracks from the Wiener Blutrausch compilation. Absolutely a MUST for every 'old Europe' punk fan. twelve killer tunes!!! Limited to 500 copies, Rave Up Records.

GENOCIDE & M.I.A. - Last Rides For... 1982

Awesome split record from Smoke Seven Records with two great US hardcore/punk combos. Genocide was founded early 1980 in New Jersey by Bobby EBZ (vocals), Wheels (bass), Jet Screamer (guitars) and Damage (drums) and "they were a full-throttle, skull fucking rip-ride of hardcore sex, ghetto drugs and berserk violence, a supersonic nailgun of Aquanet and mascara and spikes and splatterpunk and slutmetal. And this was way before most of that shit was even invented, brother. Led by shadowy charlatan and full-bore suicidal egomaniac Bobby EBZ, for one very brief but blinding moment in the late 80’s, Genocide threatened to rip rockNroll’s heart right out of it’s leather-clad chest and eat it whole. Besides a fashion sense that suggested needle Nazis from outer space, and a disposition just this side of liquored-up junkyard dogs, Genocide really ought to be remembered as one of the first bands to realize that there wasn't a whole lot of difference between the punk rock riot of GBH and the hellfire spit metal of Venom. So they played both at once - M.I.A. were formed 1980 in Las Vegas by Mike (vocals), Nick (guitars), Paul (bass/piano) and Moon (drums) and they broke up and then reunited a few months later in Orange County/California, becoming part of the growing scene there. Shortly after recording a demo, songs were snapped up for two now-legendary 1982 punk compilations: American Youth Report and Not So Quiet On The Western Front. The rest of the demo was released as a split LP Last Rites for Genocide and M.I.A.- The band struck a deal with notorious punk label Alternative Tentacles and released Murder in A Foreign Place in June of 1984. That summer they embarked on a grueling three month tour of the United States & Canada. In 1985 they completed another U.S. tour and headed back into the studio to record the post-punk classic Notes From the Underground. In 1987 the band issued its final studio album on Flipside Rec., After The Fact. In 2001, Alternative Tentacles issued Lost Boys, a compilation of the first two albums plus extras; in 2017 Darla Records reissued Notes From the Underground and After The Fact digitally and on CD for the first time." Great Music!
