DIRT SHIT - Rattenloch EP 1979

Dirt Shit stands in the first row of austrian punk bands. Born in 1978, with Robert "Räudig" of Chuzpe who left after one or two live shows, was this band maybe the most complete punk package that was (perhaps forever!?) available in the country of the lovely "Wiener Sängerknaben". At the peak of Dirt Shit, that was Roli "Rostig" Übereuter, Berni "Bedenklich" (questionable) Tragut, Michi "Monoton" and Ronnie "Urini" Iraschek, they could cause a pogo orgy whenever they charged the stage. The songs where fast, the guitars where dirty and the vocals where catchy and violent. Michi had never sung the same lyrics, and improvised at every show, which worked until he was done on stage. In 1979 they could have had an appearance in an austrian b-movie "Exit-Nur keine Panik" [Exit-Don't Panic]. But they where knocked out because of a quarrel with the producer(s), althought the songs for the movie where already recorded. After a threat to sue by the band, the movie team gave them money to cut the four songs on 7'' vinyl (limited to 500 pieces). They only played a few gigs in Vienna and one in 1980 in Linz. The members were also active in other early Austrian punk and new wave bands (Mordbuben AG, Kleenex Aktiv and others). Drugs and alcohol resulted in the end of this band. V/A - Killed By Death #6 1993

Weekend is near and time for another round of KBD punkrock classics and again with most international stuff so far. Released again via Redrum Records, 500 pressed. Fewer classic tracks here though most are still above average. The Funeral Dress track is actually from 1987, though the label of the record is misleading. More goodies here from The Kids, Dirt Shit and all the other bands who have the heart at the right place - There are certainly other rips out there in Blogworld but they are incomplete or heartless. V/A - Springtime In Belsen 1998

Today is compilation day and the next record is a Bootleg in the vein of KBD. Eighteen early worldwide punkrock goodies here and I must say most of the songs can be find on the legendary Killed By Death records so therefore, in my opinion, this plate is not really essential. I mean, if you should you see this for a decent price then take it, no question about it but not for horror totals as it circulates currently. Ach scheiß was drauf, I have an extreme hangover from yesterday's gig and realize again that I'm not getting younger, haha.. Your old sacks of you know what I mean. Well, the sound here is cool, the song selection is okay and a small step into the weekend. I guess, I hang around for awhile at home today and relax with my technique shit. Good Night!

GERHARD HELMUT - Unter Der Faust 7'' 1979

A totally unknown record to me is this rare 7inch. PowerPop I think is here to stay and I thank Reinhard for the following info: Graz-born vocalist (in the 1960's he fronted the Austrian beat band VAMPS) who moved to New York in 1969, but relocated to Hollywood in 1972 (to join glam Punks Shady Lady) with lone release recorded with RIPPER, but put out under his name with the help of Greg Shaw's Bomp imprint. ''Unter Der Faust'' (compiled on Shaw's UK-only 'Who Put The Bomp' sampler...) is a punk version of Rolling Stones' ''Under My Thumb'' with German lyrics (written by Vienna's Rolling Stones cover band Peter Schleicher... Dirt Shit used some of their lyrics as well) and the flipside was penned by RIPPER bassist Bobby Paine who was JOSIE COTTON's boyfriend back than and who went on writing most songs for her early LP's. Guitarist Jerome T. Youngman and drummer Quito Ecudor relocated to New York and started HOOKS. Don't miss Gerhard & Ripper live @ Rock Corporation/Hollywood USA 1975.

RPB - Sacre Coeur 7'' 1981

R.P.B. (Rock'N'Poetry Band) with his mastermind Rudolf Paul Barcal was an anti product of the new wave era in Vienna. Rudi left "austrias first" punk band Chuzpe in fall 1979 after the Wiener Blutrausch compilation and stayed for three months in the USA. When he came back to Vienna, he founded his own band, unimpressed by new wave and the upcomming bands, with the intention to combine rock and poetry. He was followed by Christian Brandl (also a Chuzpe member), Franky Frauenhofer, Günther Holtschik and jack-of-all-trades Ronnie Urini (Dirt Shit, Kleenex Aktiv, etc...). According to a survey only 15% of the rock music fans listen to the lyrics, the headbanging rest doesn't mind. So Rudi tried to find demanding lyrics from poets that where not so popular, to combine it with rock and to arouse the interrest for the words. 

In 1981 RPB produced their first 7Inch with a little bit different studio lineup, including Ernst Czettel & Michi Egger. The self composed song Sacre Coeur just missed the top ten of the Austrian charts. The flipside Tenebrae is a poem by Paul Celan, translated by Michael Hamburger, and was also released on the followed tape, next to rock versions of poems by Robert Frost, May Swenson, Emily Dickinson and another self composed song "Jean Paul". They gave concerts in Vienna and from Linz to Fischamend. In 1982 the line-up changed, next Rudi there now was Roland Plotz, Ernst Czettel, Michi Egger & Stefan Pfeistlinger. They recorded a rare second 7" in 1982, a strange instrumental rock/pop record. KLEENEX AKTIV - Weisse Rosen 7'' 1982

Kleenex Aktiv was a follow-up of the legendary punk heroes Dirt Shit from Vienna. The original bandmembers from 1981 where Rolli Rostig (vox), Billy Nutella (guitar), Harry Müller (Bass) and Ronnie Urini (drums). The Band was the best sounding pogo punk band until 1982/83 when they changed to New Wave/Pop, a result of the cooperation with a major label. The fast and faster drums of Ronnie and the massiv guitar & bass of Rolli & Harry sounded like an explosion in the heart of Vienna. Their concerts where legendary, but they never found a way to record a song in a studio that met the expectations. In 1982 they recorded this 7'' on Panza-Platte Records which is not really bad and shows how great they're potential are. In 1985 the band broke after a lousy second 7'' called "Hilfe" which is a bit too poppy, not bad but not comparable to this one. Check them on Es Chaos Is Die Botschaft! and Heimat Bist Du Großer Söhne and the mega three record compilation De Guade Oide Zeit.

DEAD NITTELS - Anti New-Wave Liga EP 1983

Named after the murdered SPÖ Councillor Heinz Nittel, and following the Dead Kennedys provided the Dead Nittels - with former Pöbel bassist Lörkas in their ranks - in 1981 for supplies in the Vienna punk scene and together with Kleenex Aktiv (founded by two ex-Dirt Shit members) and Schund the foundation of the second Punk generation. Their sound was special: it sounded a lot harder and more metallic than many of their contemporaries, Moreover, their Viennese lyrics were terrible and full of vulgar attacks on the lower values of the Austrian Society. In 1983 they released on it's own their superb 4-track EP out in an edition of 300 pieces, which wore the sounding name "Anti New-Wave Liga - Des Is Wien Und Not London, Okay?". Ultimately, they were like no other bands on the development of the 80-punk scene in Austria and active until the late nineties and released two further albums.

V/A - Bloodstains Across Austria 2019

All right folks, now a brand new Bloodstains compilation and this time we focus the likeable Austria punk years 1978-1987 and we meet twenty-four divine examples from the beautiful Alps Republic and some of these rare goodies you can find in this blog - Snotty punk, melodic wave and rocking bangers shake hands and illustrate how versatile and colorful the Austrian scene was at that time. That's why I got the idea to pay tribute to them with this nice compilation (otherwise nobody else will do it). That's just a small selection of great bands but I'm very satisfied with the result and the liner notes and I don't wanna say thx at this point, those are hereby most cordially greeted and I hope you enjoy it!

Oh Yeah, it's fantastic to be at home by such a frosty weather! Well, after more than ten years donates us Luziprak Records the second compilation of Es Chaos Is Die Botschaft (1000 copies) with more Austrian Proto Punk and Punk Rock from the first generation, including some rare & some unreleased Punk influenced Powerpop, trash Rock, New Wave and No Wave stuff! Why it took so long explains the maker in detailed words on his blog (click orange above) plus lots of infos to every band. I don't think this excellent release in form of a double record set can be more topical, and as we all have to realize, mankind hasn't gotten any wiser even after almost forty years. There is always some aggressor somewhere who expresses its sick ideology with lies and blind helpers and it is appalling that no diplomacy, no system, and no sensible compromise can prevent a violent confrontation. Pathetic, disappointing & lifeless all the pursuit of power and heroism. About the record: "This massive international Hardcore/Punk compilation features fifty-five bands/songs and was organized and released by the infamous MDC on the band's own label R Radical Records. The worldwide hardcore scene was at its peak at this point, still underground enough to repel corrupting outside influences like major labels and heavy metal, but already hardened into a rigid aesthetic and political dogma that often encouraged groupthink and musical conformity. P.E.A.C.E. documents the state of "Reagan-era" Hardcore, just before the popularity of extreme music spread through decidedly non-radical camps and into the mainstream. Among the fifty-five bands on board are well-known plus the best tracks by courtesy of obscure groups of the local scenes from Argentina, South Africa to Japan. Most of the bands included retain, either through design or some bizarre quirk of ineptitude, a stamp of individuality on their sound that makes this an entertaining collection.

An extensive booklet insert is packed with political rants, cartoons, and suggestions for further reading, making explicit the double-LP's theme of activism and action against a corrupt authority. Last working day before my vacation, this year not in Crete or any Mediterranean region, thanks to fucking Corona, it's getting annoying and the new regulations even more. But what should we do? As long as research doesn't keep creating a vaccine, this shit keeps us back from free life and so is 2020 an extraordinary shit year. Well, let us better enjoy the loud dirty sound of the early wild punk days, so let's pull another fantastic Bloodstains compilation off the shelf and find Volume 2 with twenty-two German delicacies. Some songs overlap Volume 1 and why here again is a bit unfortunate, there are so many more rarities of German bands that they obviously haven't researched exactly. But I'm grateful that the detectives made the effort anyway... and you certainly as well. Now let the bands kicking, get this Friday quick behind us and looking forward to the weekend.

ALTERNATIVE - In Nomine Patri EP 1982

Last one for today because I'm in a hurry for Serene Fall/Klotzs tonight in Exzess so I stolen the info from PunkyGibbon (forgive me): "These Scottish anarcho punks first surfaced with the poppiest (and by far best) cut on 1981's execrable Bullshit Detector. “Change It’, lifted from their demo, was a pretty crap song, but it had a tune and the whole LP was so miserable that even this innocuous ditty sounded good. So, having released their first recording via Crass, they spent the rest of their career being compared to them. By the time of the In Nomine Patri EP, they had a second guitarist - Dougie McHale (Actives) - and Wilf had been replaced by Gordon 'Gogs' Smith. With the addition of another vocalist (Linda 'Linger' Rotherham) they then shared a split cassette with Dirt and Reality Control (Live 23.10.82 The Bunker), and underwent more lineup changes. The new band released If They Treat You Like Shit - Act Like Manure, an LP which is considered an anarcho punk classic. They split in 1986 after recording more demos with yet more personnel revisions."

V/A - The 1055 Post Compilation 2012

Yeah!!!, the 1055th post! Hardcore readers of my blog know this was a sampler for the good old long long gone WildDevilRules Blog and I thought this compilation is today as well as four years ago. I want to thank everyone in the first place who helped me with advice and support, sent me nice emails & awesome music and those who left their comments. A big special thx goes to Fredrik, Reinhard & François which supply me with rare, new and interesting material and I hope our connection still holds on for long, You Three ROCKS!!! Further Henner & Sunny, Count Yorga (hope you all feel ok) and all those beautiful people who I forget, for YOU!! is this sampler made and of course, for my loyal followers. That time I was ready to close WDR because the trouble with mediafire was extremely annoying and all files were with a slip henceforth wiped. A lot of good Blogs closed and I was not alone with this shit and I cannot understand these methods but I say "Fuck Them", I just love this kind of hobby and the work I put in is so much as they can't push me so easy out.....
