GOGOL PREMIER ET LA HORDE - Hencor' Pir 1983

Second album by Gogol Premier Et La Horde on Accord with eleven untypical punk songs which doesn't cause an earthquake but sufficient for a good atmosphere while cooking or drinkingIn comparison to Vite Avant La Saisie I miss the snottiness power and the 'slow' pieces are getting used to. A bit to smooth ironed the production for my taste, but the French like to experiment. Anyway, for breakfast on a cold morning I can only increase myself. But first, the routine life.

NEGATIVE GAIN - Back From The Dead 1986

Before I enjoy myself with soccer tonight this Killer debut album by Negative Gain from Toronto. A short Band History (by Grant Slavin): Negative Gain was founded in Toronto, Ontario by Peter Warner who wrote all of the lyrics and provided rehearsal space in his basement. Filling out the lineup was Grant C. Slavin on guitar, Steve Currie on bass, and Andrew Mosely on drums. All members were in their mid-teens at the time. Their influences included Minor Threat, Millions Of Dead Cops, the Misfits, and the Dead Kennedys, as well as local TO bands Direct Action and Sudden Impact. Negative Gain got their first break in '83 when we were asked by local Toronto promoter Jill Heath to open for Jodie Fosters Army at the city's legendary punk club The Turning Point. After the show Pete and Grant went skateboarding with JFA. The evening was documented in a subsequent issue of Thrasher as JFA's guitarist Don Pendelton was writing a column for the rag documenting their tour. Other memorable Negative Gain gigs around this time include warming up for bands like the Circle Jerks, Gang Green, the Descendents and 7 Seconds. The young thrash band soon went from listening to their favorite bands' records on a daily basis to hanging out with them backstage and stealing their beer rider! More help from Jill Heath came when the promoter sent Negative Gain's 1985 demo tape, Attack Of The Killer Bears, to Pushead for review. Pushead evidently like the tape so much that he offered to release a full-length LP for the band on his Pusmort label. Negative Gain recorded their album in Oakville, Ontario in about five hours on a Saturday afternoon, as studio time was limited to what the young band could afford to spend on the recording. The session was produced by Brian Taylor of the Toronto band Youth Youth Youth.

Sadly, Pete Warner committed suicide not too long after the recording was completed, and never lived to see its release. His last gig with the band was with Toronto's Bunchofuckingoofs. Negative Gain continued on as a three-piece for about two more years, before splitting in the late 1980s.

I recommend you visit Stormy's Blogged & Quartered blog where the full Discography 1985-1986 is waiting for you. Great Record!

PROPAGANDA - The Nine Lives Of Dr. Mabuse 12'' 1984

Now a post which is in my opinion one of the best records of German Pop culture. The first release by Propaganda from Dusseldorf, formed 1982 by Ralf Dörper (a member of the German industrial band Die Krupps). As a trio, with artist Andreas Thein and vocalist Susanne Freytag, the group made initial recordings in Germany which were destined for future release in the UK, where Ralf Dörper's early experimental recordings had received critical acclaim by radio DJ John Peel and journalist Chris Bohn aka Biba Kopf. With the inclusion of classically trained musician and composer Michael Mertens and singer Claudia Brücken (who had worked with Freytag in her previous band, The Topolinos), music journalist Paul Morley signed the band to Trevor Horn's newly formed ZTT Records label. They were one of the initial roster of acts signed to Trevor Horn's ZTT label, between 1984 and 1986, during which they released the critically acclaimed album A Secret Wish"Dr. Mabuse", named after the fictional character made famous by filmmaker Fritz Lang is a fantastic ten minute pop goodie and I'm still excited and there is no comparable in this way. The third single Machinery is also a cracker. I still have some pop treasures and maybe I'll let them live again. Enjoy!

THE NOSEBLEEDS - Ain't Bin To No Music School 7'' 1977

Rare vinyl by this short-lived combo and they were formed in Wythenshawe, Manchester, England 1976 under the name of Wild Ram. Changed their name to Ed Banger and the Nosebleeds in early 1977 with the following line-up: Edmund 'Ed Banger' Garrity (vocals), Vincent 'Vini' Reilly (guitar), Phillip 'Toby' Tomanov (drums), and Pete Crooks (bass). In late 1977 Billy Duffy replaced Vini Reilly and Morrissey replaced Ed Banger and subsequently they shortened the group's name to the Nosebleeeds. Ed Banger ended up in a later incarnation of Slaughter & The Dogs while Vini Reilly formed Durutti Column. Pete Crooks and Toby Toman continued on as the Nosebleeds. "Billy knew this guy Morrissey, who ran the New York Dolls Fan Club and wrote lyrics - and got him to join the group, although he had never sung before. The pair of them dumped all the group's old songs and wrote an entirely new set like 'Peppermint Heaven' and 'I Think I'm Ready For The Electric Chair'. The audience was perplexed; it was a strange band!" - Pete Frame, 1989. However, in his autobiography Morrissey denied ever being a member of the band. He claims that Duffy recruited him after the break up of the Nosebleeds and they wrote songs together. For their live performances they hadn't decided on a band name. They roped in the rhythm section of the Nosebleeds and Paul Morley used this name for a live review.

The Nosebleeds did two gigs one at the Ritz [support to Magazine] and a Rabid Records benefit at the Manchester Polytechnic before dissolving in May of 1978. After the group split up Morrissey went on to form the Smiths, Toby joined Blue Orchids, and Pete Crooks joined up with Vini Reilly in Durutti Column. The A-side was booked on numerous compilations but the flip I like better.

STREBERS - Till En Vän 1992

Third full length album by the Strebers on Birdnest Records with twelve decent melodic hardcore cracks. The band is from Strängnäs and were originally formed in 1985 with Micke "Ulke" Johansson on vocals and guitar, Johnny "JR" Rydh on drums and Pelle Pettersson on bass (later replaced by Fredrik "Ztikkan" Blomberg). The band was folded after Johnny "JR" Rydh's tragic death in a car accident in 1992. More infos and music you get by clicking on the small 7inch collection which found the way in this theatre four years ago.

V/A - Vrući Dani I Vrele Noći 1982

In ex-Yugoslavia, some great records were released on Jugoton, and the range covered all genres. A very good example is this compilation of New Wave, PowerPop, Punk, Synth Pop, which provides good mood and relaxation on this sunny warm autumn day. There are some of the artists on vinyl and it's worth getting to know some of them. So, should you still plan train or long car rides today, put this sound into the player and bridge the time with it. A little poem at the end: "Your star shines bright in the sky, I want to follow it. Your voice touches my skin and electrifies my soul. Your spirit envelops me, I feel secure. Spread your love far out, like overgrown veins, flowing down on me like rain. So you stay with me, so I go with you ..... into the unknown." And now Soccer.

1.Put Za Katmandu - AZRA
2.Kenozoik - IDOLI
3.Osvrni Se Na Mene - STIDLJIVA LJUBIČICA
4.On - ZANA
5.Ona Se Smije - IZAZOV
6.Zaboravi - ZOK
7.Male Curice - ANIMATORI
8.Zaboravljena Draga - LABORATORIJA
9.Zona Sumraka - FILM
10.Povezi Me - XENIA
11.Kad Je Sa Mnom Kvari Sve - AERODROM
12.Dokolica - ELEKTRIČNI ORGAZAM
13.Zatvaram Oči - LA FORTUNJEROS

OI POLLOI - Unite & Win! 1987

Fantastic record on Oi! Records opens today the musical enjoyment and so you know when, where and why a bit info, not written by me: Oi Polloi are punx from Edinburgh that formed around 1981. Starting as an Oi! band, they are now generally more associated with the anarcho-punk genre. The band has become notable for their contributions to the Scottish Gaelic punk subgenre. The name probably comes from the Greek expression "Οι πολλοί" and it is a pun on the phrase hoi polloi meaning "the masses" or "the common people". The band has gone through about 50 members since their formation, and their only permanent member has been vocalist Deek, who has also been involved in Gaelic-language television. The band has included punks and skinheads. The members have been supporters of Anti-Fascist Action and Earth First!, and they use the motto "No Compromise in Defence of Our Earth," which is an adaptation of Earth First!'s motto. They support direct action in defence of the environment, hunt sabotage and resistance against racism, sexism, homophobia, fascism and imperialism. Countless albums and singles have been recorded since 1984, on numerous compilations, find a few...

SKI & DER REST - Saus Und Braus 1982

Early 1980s New Wave Band around Munich's Miss Miracle Marion Siekmann. The other band members were Gogo Eisert (guitar), Helmut Müller (keyboard instruments), Michael Talhammer (bass) and Peter Enderlein (drums). First 7inch came on Lächerlich! Schallplatten, a song on the Munich compilation Reifenwechsel Leicht Gemacht, and finally the album a year later with eleven shallow new wave goodies. A review from Sounds 08/1982): "A Bibiband of a different kind is Ski & Der Rest, whose singer Marion Siekmann has wasted her valuable youth with a tailor's apprenticeship - her really brilliant appearance was probably the key to awarding a record deal with Teldec, even after several hours of staring at Why Not where she was accompanied by Robert Goerl, the twenty-two-year-old Marion has only one obvious stumbling block: her energetic and ambitious vocal attempts at Ski & Der Rest, the only group in Munich that still sounds like a strained gym version of the B 52's ". Well, hard to share this opinion after almost forty years, no top record but not bad... check them.

WASTELAND - Leave Me Alone 7'' 1980

Second 7Inch by this combo from Canterbury/Kent and Wasteland were Tony (vocals), Don (bass), Tom (guitar), Tig (drums). This slab was released via Invicta/Ace Records in an edition of 500 copies. Two nice mod punkies with female vox, even on compilations, for example Back To Front #3. So it is, soon Soccer Euro-League, Yeah!
