D.R.I. - Live @ CBGB'S New York 1984

This brings back a lot of memories. In the early 80s I listen to a lot of Metal stuff because I was a Metaller with all my heart. I leave this style when I came in touch with American Hardcore bands like Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, Warfare (UK) etc.... so also with D.R.I. The Hardcore sound was an integral part in this scene and then more and more concerts took place I rather visited of course those gigs as Megadeth or Anthrax. 1986 then D.R.I. live in my city, together with Holy Moses (ARRGGHHH!) and this show changed my lifestyle completely. I will not say that they made me a punk because I've also heard some German punk bands, EA80, Slime, Daily Terror, OHL for example, but they were rarely present live as the ami bands. I would say my interest in metal was deleted this evening, First-class performance with pogo till the shack crashed, unforgotten. Who ever saw a D.R.I. gig can attest to this. A little info:

D.R.I. (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles) is a crossover thrash band from the United States that formed in Houston, in 1982. The band currently comprises founding members, vocalist Kurt Brecht and guitarist Spike Cassidy, as well as drummer Rob Rampy and bassist Harald Oimoen. D.R.I. never gained a mainstream audience, but the integration of their hardcore punk roots with thrash metal influences was a stylistic catalyst for their contemporaries - most notably Suicidal Tendencies, Corrosion Of Conformity and Stormtroopers Of Death - alongside whom they are considered pioneers of what would later be called "crossover thrash." They have released seven original studio albums, the last of which was released in 1995. Since then, the band has continued touring and intermittently going on hiatus. In 2004, D.R.I. released a web-only demo track "Against Me", their first recording in a decade. For years, there has been talk of an eighth D.R.I. album, which has yet to materialize.

The first three albums are all terrific and as '4 Of A Kind' came out the music was too monotonous to me and I lost interest. I love more the rapid, wild aggressive sound and here on this CD are all their hits. Forty songs in Thirty-Nine minutes. A Must Listen!!

V/A - Let's Get Pissed - It's Christmas 1984

Solid compilation on Cult Records, 1000 copies with no American bands. A final worthy contribution to Christmas 2015. Strictly speaking I wanted nothing to post on these holidays but the music is very good, the record rare and it's freshly arrived and today is the last holiday therefore it's okay. Tonight the hardcore legends from Raw Power visit Hanau and maybe I'm going there. So far so good, enjoy the rest of the evening and have yourself a drink!

V/A - A Clockwork Orange 1972

I come now to some special music from a movie which I would call my absolute favorite movie. I don't know how many times I've seen it but if I see it again I'm always delighted by the story, the actors, the film sets and the brilliant work of Stanley Kubrick, he wrote, produced and directed A Clockwork Orange in 1971. A darkly satirical science fiction adaptation of Anthony Burgess's 1962 novel of the same name. A brilliant book. The soundtrack features comprising mostly classical music selections and Moog synthesizer compositions by Walter Carlos. Remains only to say: A masterpiece in all things.

THE DEVIL IN MISS JONES - Hey Jesus 1993

In 1983, the band Billy & The Willies were founded and the members were Ricki & Mika (guitars), Mario (drums) and bassist, songwriter and singer Sonic. The Willies (the name was the product of a Pub evening) their musical heroes are the Butthole Surfers, enriched their Punk rock sound with every imaginable style. The lyrics were mostly all one little world in itself. They released three wonderful albums before in the beginning of the 90s, a dark shadow came on the band because guitarist Ricky died. The band could not and would no longer continue playing under the old band name, because its no longer the Willies as they were announced. They decided to go ahead and in 1991 they founded The Devil In Miss Jones, Sonic was now playing guitar, Andreas now plays the bass. Soon they released two EPs and a 10'' and in 1993 all three releases were pressed on CD via BeriBeri and received much praise. The Devil In Miss Jones is punkrock out of the garage and change the myths of the history of rock and punk excellent with their wild playin'. Live they are ecstatic & unforgettable! Where other greeting Satan degenerate as a pose, they live in the merciless world of illusion between heaven and hell, the proximity of noise and pop to the struggle between good and evil to others. "...it's time to see the real devil", the rest must happen within you.

INSTIGATORS - Nobody Listens Anymore 1985

Today there is not much to tell coz I'm knocked from yesterday. Much gin and beer, plus delicious wild roast with dumplings and red cabbage and then a round of Risiko, Walking Dead Edition and this awesome record turned their rounds, the debut album, released on Bluurg Records, by the fantastic Instigators, great harmonious melodic Punkrock from Huddersfield, England. Short onfo: the band was formed in 1980 by drummer Paul "Hammy" Halmshaw and guitarist Simon Mooney, both students at Thornhill High School, and the line-up was completed by Simon "Semi" Bridgewater (vocals) and Nicky Djorjevic (bass Guitar). They took the name Instigators on the suggestion of Ritchie Calvert of the band Disintegrated. The band's first live performance was in summer 1982. Influences on the band included Crass and Flux of Pink Indians. - You can read a review from Pushead on cool kfth site but I think this is superfluous, their music is with distance one of the best from the British Island.... magic!

REST OF THE BOYS - Days Weeks And Years 1988

It was in November 2012 when I met the album by this extraordinary band from Lübeck on Donots hcbd blog. I think in summer I posted their first EP Die Wende which has already taken me with their 60s surfsound at first listen and so I was very pleased with his post. And as luck would have it so someone offered the album via ebay and I received it for little loot. Released on their own label offers this record ten melodic awesome goodies, a little harder than the 7Inch but the way of playing, the harmonies are terrific. A real highlight of punk from the eighties where also a lot of shit appeared, but this record stands out in every way. To say it with Donots words: Deutsche Wertarbeit! A record I never wouldn't sell. Get it quick, Honey! And now back to bed.

V/A - 10 Meter Ohne Kopf 1991

An absolute must have is the international live compilation in the Störtebeker, a location of the occupied houses in Hamburg Hafenstraße which where recorded between the years 1987-1991, released via Fishcore & Buback Tonträger. An interesting mix of top-class, predominantly European bands that have been there, each chosen by one song. The sound quality is excellent and the composition is quite brilliant. Hardcore, punk and a little metal (Erosion) have popped up to your deaf ears and the presentation in gatefold sleeve, with a forty-four page booklet about the squats at the Hafenstraße inside is also nice (but not scanned, I'm too lazy). Cult stuff and I can promise you that this is worth the download. Brilliant live shit!!!

12.Get On The Stage - SPERMBIRDS
13.Weekend Massacra - UPSET NOISE

V/A - Bloodstains Across The UK 4 1999

This morning I listen to a lot of old UK punk bands and I can't get enough from all these classics. So here's a great compilation of tracks taken from rare punk records and I'm sure you need no further details. The Bloodstains records are always limited to 500 copies and since 1992 at the start. The CD releases have mostly bonus tracks on it but who wants CD's? I prefer vinyl even if it needs more space, anyway. Here are eighteen essential punk rock blasts and the song selection is quite good, no failure, check other volumes on wdthtc - a must have! A small note at the end: song #2 is not 'Disco Veteran', it's 'I've Seen It, Vomit', if interested.

1.Time Wall - FIRE EXIT
2.I've Seen It, Vomit - BOG UGLY
3.Look-Out - THE FAKES
4.Fallen Hero - NO SUPPORT
5.Sick At Heart - THE BUZZ
6.All After My Blood - X-FILMS

STRESS - O Ixos Tis Anasfalias 1985

Stress might very well have been the one & only greek band with a high-paced punk '77/KBD sound, in a scene full of post-punk (& later on hardcore) bands. As far as their (sociopolitical in nature) lyrics go, they seem to encapsulate all the events & agonies of their generation. The band released two albums and both records have been highly sought-after collector's items for years on end. The band started playing shows at around '81-'82. The first singer later formed Panx Romana. Their first appearance on vinyl comes in 1984, on Enigma's now legendary collection DIATARAXI KOINIS ISIXIAS with two songs. Check an Interview from 1985. The sound here is much more primal and agressive than the two songs in the aforementioned collection ("Aghos" reappears here in a punk version). It is obvious that most of this material was written around 1981-1982, when the band was still under a heavier "mood", musically & politically. Great Stuff for hardcore maniacs, you will not dissapointed!!!!
