HOOLIGAN - Low Position 7'' 1987

Japan has some really great Oi! bands, Cobra, Raise A Flag, Cockney Cocks, etc... They all excellent and worthy of recognition, primarily due to their unusual aggressiveness and extreme unapologetic poppiness. Hooligan proved here the Oi! spirit in an excellent way. They released this 7'' by their own and put two smashers on it, sung in native Japanese and the sound is strong and well produced. Have no further info about the band but if you like Japanese Oi! as I do, you'll love it.

ABURADAKO - s/t EP 1983

Let's start February with a rare flexi from Aburadako, a long-running Japanese psychedelic Punk group, their name means "Greasy Octopus", which formed 1983. They began as a punk-hardcore band before moving in more avant-garde directions. They have released eight albums to date. A notable oddity is that none of Aburadako's albums have titles and are only distinguished by their packages. This is their first record on ADK Records with six weird typical smasher or simply said: This is Japan, not Boston!

ROOM 41 - Brain Shake 7'' 1997

Holy Shit, I think I'm gonna became a heartattack, hahaha. This band will blow your brains. How trashy, raw, wild & fast can they go? Room 41 really rule and kick ass. Catchy and dirty garage punk rock - just the way punk might should be. You make sure to get something by this band. Bought this 7'' long time ago in a local record store for € 4,- and it's damn cool. I have no idea if they have more but if there I will be able to get it. This one's the unoffical German release, you don't regret anything.

THE STAR CLUB - Toll Gate Ahead 10'' 1980

On this morning I'm glad to give you one more from the Wanted-List and let's move to the east and visit Nagoya where in 1977 the Star Club were founded. The first output was a live tape in 1979 and after another demo the band released their first record, the Toll Gate Ahead 10'' on ELL Record and its an extremely rare piece of vinyl and almost unseen outside of Japan. All six songs are fuckin' cool and what should I write more? A detailed biography on all records there on the orange letters above. At these recordings involved: Hikage (vox), Rhyo (guitars), Eddy (bass) and Bukka (drums). Get it!

V/A - A Farewell To Arms 1986

Original released on Selfish Records, re-released by the German label Nuclear Blast in 1988 goes this compilation powerful to the point. Finest Japan hardcore plus the half high quality metal punk, and as well is the sound. Kick off with Lipcream and Outo, songs which barely reach the two minute mark, following by two decent mid-tempo numbers from Gastunk (The Eyes is a killer!), then Gauze with four puke on your face numbers. Ghoul shine with some heavy pounding metal sound and last but not least, The Execute with two more dirty raw punkrock hits. Overall, a fantastic platte with a nice title and cool music, a real Monday pleasure.

NIGHTMARE - s/t EP 1988

Nightmare was a hardcore punk band from Osaka, Japan and were founded in 1987. At that time the punk/hardcore/thrash scene explodes and there are heaps of bands around like Nightmare (Effigy, S.O.B. etc...) which start to play music; Check this little Nightmare discography for more records - Their sound based on traditional Japanese Hardcore with tones of heaviness. Unstoppable, no slow all go, just plain hardcore punk sound with no fills to make you bored, seven goodies on Selfish Records. Maybe a bit too crusty for most people but this first EP is worth checking out nonetheless.

THE BLUE HEARTS - Linda Linda 7'' 1987

The Blue Hearts were a punk band from Tokyo, its members were Hiroto Kōmoto (vocalist), Masatoshi Mashima (guitarist), Junnosuke Kawaguchi (bassist) and Tetsuya Kajiwara (drummer), that stayed together from 1985-1995. In that time they released a myriad of catchy, melodic rock anthems that still appeal to all age groups today. This 7inch, released via Meldec, is the most well-known which can be found on many karaoke machines, excellent PowerPop Punk.

IKKA SHINJYU - Dead Section Flexi 1985

Well, I told you yesterday that new records come in and while I ripping there's a band you should notice: Ikka Shinjyu from Japan. They released five 7Inches and they extreme fuckin' noisy and fast and raw. The singer is yelling the words out like he's been laid up on a bed of nails, the guitars heavily distorted, the drummer bolzt without breathing and the bass joins the whole noiseblock perfectly. I do not have much to do with Japancore but occasionally I discover a pearl that blows my socks off. Three goodies in four minutes, 100% pure energy.....and now first a beer, Cheers!

THE NEWS - Do! Do! Do! EP 1987

And now a small piece for fans of Japanese girlie pop-punk and I think they are from Tokio. The Band created not a new genre and they were influenced by 80's punk rock and I like their energy here on this 4 Track EP which was released by Kojima Recordings, Inc. - Not much information about them and so all I can say that these girls are very hot and there's no filler on it. I do not know many bands from Japan, but The News are surprisingly fresh and leave such many lame Power-Pop band far behind.

EXPLOSION SACK - What's Joke!? EP 2000

We come now to something completely different, hahaha... Trash Punk from Japan and this is probably the bands only release. And who likes Japanese punk/hardcore you can not pass this combo. All four songs go on like a rocket and somehow they all sound the same. A chord in order to enslave them all! The boys kick off famously with their snotty punk rock style, a damn crack in the wall and a visit of your neighbors is guaranteed (you know what to do), and I'm not though in Japanese punk but this here changed my view and I must say that I like to re-learn. A brilliant EP with compromise hardness and if you a text freak who needs to sing along then you as always out of place because you don't not understand a word. Therefore in case such releases need a lyric sheet inside. So also here. Any questions?

LOO'S HALLOWEEN - It's All Right 7'' 1986

Loo's Halloween is band from Japan and they were actice in the 80's. Musically you can hear two catchy, speedy and straight-forward punk rock songs in the vein of Cobra. This EP is really good and recommended if you're like melodic garage sound punkrock. More about the band or other releases I can't tell because I'm not very interested in the Japan scene. There comes too much crust or bad harccore from this area and I don't like this crap but this is of course an exception. It's all right so here we go!
