On this morning I'm glad to give you one more from the Wanted-List and let's move to the east and visit Nagoya where in 1977 the Star Club were founded. The first output was a live tape in 1979 and after another demo the band released their first record, the Toll Gate Ahead 10'' on ELL Record and its an extremely rare piece of vinyl and almost unseen outside of Japan. All six songs are fuckin' cool and what should I write more? A detailed biography on all records there on the orange letters above. At these recordings involved: Hikage (vox), Rhyo (guitars), Eddy (bass) and Bukka (drums). Get it!

Hi WDM!
ReplyDeleteSome months ago I left a YT link for this disc in the comments of some post but maybe you didn't see it...
Anyways, about this line: "The first output was a live tape in 1979 and after another demo the band released their first record, the Toll Gate Ahead 10'' on ELL Record..."
I think this is not correct. Their first record was the "GO TO HELL" live EP, apparently it was a promo or a very limited edition, in any case several sources say it was released in 12/77 so probably it was the first Japanese punk record, depending if you consider Benitokage's 1977 singles as 'punk'. After that, there was the live tape you mention in 11/79, again self released in Club The Star Records, and then the TOLL GATE AHEAD EP in ELL, 11/80. I've never read about a demo in between..., possibly it's the same live tape from '79.
And yes, this EP is great, I would say it's the best record by the band ;) Even though they made some great songs afterwards too...
Saludos,
Fernando :)
thx for the info and if you send a link I really overlooked it, does not happen again, I promise!
