KLAXON - 1984

The Klaxons are an Italian punk band with post-punk influences, active since 1979. Historical formation and milestone of the Roman music scene, they are still today one of the reference bands of Italian punk, formed 1979 in Rome by the meeting of Andrea Morelli (bass/vocals), Lorenzo Tovoli (guitar/vocals) and Fabrizio Ferraro (drums). The first live performance takes place at the Roman Club Uonna. They also play in all the events organized at the time by Radio Red Wave and Radio Proletaria. In 1983 they released their first EP with five pieces, one of which, "Religion", came in first place in the Punk Charts Italia ranking in the Rockerilla newspaper. This little compilation was released via Sydney Town and tracks 1-5 were originally released on the "The Kids Today" EP, track 6 is from the "Quelli Che Urlano Ancora.." comp., tracks 7-9 are previously unreleased. Solid stuff!

UNIPLUX - 1981 2016

Late in the evening and while I ripping vinyl a quick post in-between and we visit Rome and meet Uniplux which formed in the early 80s. Before disbanding in mid 80s (the band will reunite later on and continue up to these days) Uniplux released two 7"s. Both records are very hard to find and sought after, mainly because Uniplux offered a unique vision of melodic Punk Rock. While at the same time heavy and melodic, the sound of Uniplux always carried along a certain dose of melancholy, notably underlined in their lyrics and dramatic vocals by two different female singers that sang on these two 7"s.

Incredible but true, but your fave label discovered an entire unreleased punk rock album from the land of spaghetti and mandolino! Uniplux were one of the few bands of 1977 roman punk scene that included bands such Trancefusion, Elektroshock, Luxfero, Ulster Punk Group, Apologia Di Reato, Bads, Stigma, Ddt. This scene is well documented on the magnificent Claudio Pescetelli’s book “Lo stivale e’ marcio” (rave up books 2014) that talks about those pionieristic days. This band released two singles, the first, released for a major label RCA and entitled ‘Chi Siamo Noi?’ came out in 1982, the 2nd one Maledetto Rock, (Pogo Records), came out two years later in 1984. both records are very hard to find and sought after, mainly because Uniplux offered a unique vision of melodic punk rock. in 1997, a bunch of european punk collectors compiled Killed By Death #201, dedicated to Italian 1977/82 punk rock scene, selecting the track “U.X.” to represent this band. After over thirty-six years, RaveUp Records unearthed from the tomb eleven killer tracks amazing Italian punk with female vocals, for fans of Generation X, Buzzcocks, Penetration and all early UK punk rockers, limited to 500 copies!, first 100 on orange vinyl!

SATAN 81 - Radioattivita 7'' 1981

About this combo from Italy I haven't much to tell. Satan 81 have only this 7Inch released via City Record and they have recorded two decent mid-tempo numbers and that's it. The a-side was used for the great Killed By Death D'Italia compilation. Very catchy distorted rhythm guitar with nice solos and pretty typical for the early 80's sound of the boot which short time later turned into terrific hardcore, really a pity that many good bands only made it to one fuckin' single, potential was undoubtedly present but I guess there was a lack of good labels and of course money. And today, thirty-five years later, we hunt and seek the treasures of the past. Strange, but that's the way it is!

BOYZ NEX' DOOR - Welcome To The Wonderful World Of Thee Mighty Boyz Nex' Door EP 1995

Very good EP by this combo from Turin which belongs to the glorious 333 x Up & Down series via Incognito Records. Probably the first record and it comes along with four songs in a decent '77 style. Sounds almost strange because from this country I know finest Hardcore & Oi! stuff but these are the 90s Baby and the world is changing. Enough bla bla, who cares? By the way, my monitor is starting to shit off who sends me money?

V/A - Papi, Queens, Reichkanzlers & Presidennti EP 1982

Weekend, Juhuu!! and we start with a fine compilation from Attack Punk Records with seven European bands. Irah from Bologna opens the musical breakfast with a five minute stomper, a good start for my taste, which the Bristolians Total Chaos seamlessly continue, only a bit faster and 5° Braccio from Turin close the logo side with a typical Italian two minute firecracker. The black side kick off with Berlins Stromsperre which give us a minute finest German hardcore, followed by Kaaos from Tampere who say just as fast good day. Once again Bologna where Sottocultura at home and they shoot sharp, caution! Kollettivo from Turin finish our small cruise with a delicious cheese sandwich. Now you know!

This famous piece was born by Disforia Tapes and rushes with thirty eight hardcore/punk goodies from Turin into your warm room. Much unknown stuff you can hear but my favorite band is without doubt: Declino, they have two strong EPs released in the 80s, and I had one of them in my hands, plus an awesome split tape with Negazione, listen here. The sound quality is quite good and if you love the Italian sound so is this a delicacy and must be heard.

V/A - Life Is A Joke 1984

A collection of Punkrock, Hardcore and high energy noise from around this planet. Yeah, exactly and this is the first part of this mini serie, a total of three compilations exist, shot from the Hamburg label Weird System in the 80s into the orbit. I remember at that time I was interested in the publications of the label and bought a lot of records, together with AGR the most important in Germany for essential punkrock. While AGR put its focus on German bands gave the Hamburger international bands the chance to send their demos to them and connections were established, lots of plenty stuff roll in and so they created some damn cool records with awesome songs/bands which are, in my opinion, nowadays belong to the best ever. Life Is A Joke is full with rare tracks, partly nowhere else published, Volume 2 was released as a limited double LP, all records numbered and the first presses come in colorful vinyl, always in an elaborate artwork, made in Germany!

OK Leute, now we meet a fantastic bootleg which is peppered with eighteen raw and furious punk nuggets from around the world and a label called Reverendo Moon Records from Italy, certainly another synonym for an KBD maniac, pressed this compilation in an edition of 500 copies to the surface. Excellent mix of songs which mark the punk sound between 1977-1981 and you can say what you want: The music was at that time simply better and I wish I had been part of it. RAW POWER - Wop Hour EP 1985

Let's start this cloudy Sunday with one of the bands that immediately impressed me: Raw Power from Poviglio/Reggio Emilia. Formed 1981 by brothers Mauro (vocals) and Giuseppe Codeluppi (guitar). With Davide (guitar), Maurizio (bass) and Fabiano (drums) they recorded 1983 their first tape and this excited attention and they were represented on some famous compilations. In 1984 the debut 'You Are The Victim' was released via Meccano Records and is in my opinion one of the best Hardcore records ever. So they were finally established world-wide, especially in the States they toured with renowned bands and also in Europe they were valued. Several line up changes, a further series of compilations and lots of albums come out. On 6. October 2002 Guiseppe died unexpectedly and Raw Power at first stopped playing and then decided to continue (another member Luca Carpi died two years later, aged only 34). Raw Power are always a great pleasure for me, especially live and listen here for more stuff and be thankful to the longest-running band in history of Italian hardcore punk. This EP is the re-release with five tracks on Westworld. Fuck Authority, Grazie!

KAOS ROCK - Basta Basta 7'' 1980

Welcome in the raw, wild and psycho-o-phonic sound of this wild punk rock band from Milan. The group were formed in 1979 by Luigi Schiavone (guitar), Gianni Muciaccia (bass), Maurizio Granata (drums), Gianfranco Segatto (guitar) and Cesare Pedrotti (vocals). These restless young teenager were immediately attracted by the wind Punk Rock and also from the slums of unhealthy Lower East Side and CBGB's in New York (R.I.P.) which brings a raw and powerful sound over the ocean and they had enough from the melody and romanticism shit which was characteristic of the Italian light music. So they start Kaos Rock, a musical revolution, a real electric shock. From the capital of Lombardy the band had the opportunity to get a rehearsal room and played first gigs. Eventually the Italian label Cramps Records released their debut album WW 3 (World War 3) in 1980 with fourteen tracks. After the album two 7inches followed and shortly after its release the label unfortunately closed its doors. One of the last albums by the label was the Rock'80 compilation and Kaos Rock has two songs on it and as well on the awesome Killed By Death #201-D'Italia. In 1981 the very short and intense career of Kaos Rock ends. Killer record!

Hui, now it becomes more violent with this damn compilation released via BC Tapes & Records, no idea if this is first as a tape comin' out, does not really matter. Excellent hardcore stuff, mostly bands from Italy present and they bang everything neatly in two. But also the rest mercilessly attacks the heart and catapults the pulse upwards. Twenty-nine nuggets, somewhere pressed on the bands records but many only here banned, too bad the insert is a bit poor. 1700 copies pressed on black vinyl (this version). 300 copies were pressed on blue vinyl for mailorder. Egal, this record was also licensed in red vinyl by the Munich label Starving Missile in the same year with one extra dick.

V/A - People Of The Pit 1987

One more treasure of Mr.Sweden's collection and this compilation was released by a small Italian label called Goddam Church Records and its their first output and we move to excellent hardore music, ten bands with rare and exclusive partially goodies to date and from rare 7Inches and this aggressive mix is a perfect picking of songs/bands which I not known, for example Corruptend Morals or Stige, the rest I have somewhere on my hard drive. I must confess hardcore is not always my thing, but I love this kind of music and this record is outstanding - Genau mein Fall, Antesten!

PEGGIO PUNX - Cattivi Maestri 1989

Kick the sickness away with the Peggio Punx, a hardcore punk group from Alessandria (a small city in the north of Italy) & they were active from 1982-1989. Named as "Peggio Punk" and quick become "Peggio Punx" and the band was notable for the often experimental music (in the first distorted guitar album "type mandolin, until the very last pieces away from the canons punk - hardcore), and for working hard and reflective lyrics, words openly sympathetic to the current self far-left 'workers autonomy' that make them one of the most politically punk decided and deployed the entire Italian scene. In the early eighties very popular in the Italian scene, active incident to the social self "Subbuglio" of Alessandria and participating in numerous concerts, alongside bands like Wretched, CCM, Raw Power, etc., around the occupied social centers peninsula. Their self-produced discs are in the full spirit of DIY punk admittedly more "busy". It was recently reprinted a collection containing their discography, and also thanks to this reissue even worse now Punx are one of punk/hardcore Italian most popular ever.

GLI INCESTI - Punk Rock 7'' 1977

Early Italian Punk from Gli Incesti and this is the band's first record on CLS with two rockin' songs. One of the first groups to approach the new British sound was the Milanese duo of Gli Incesti, formed by brothers Leo (who died ten years ago) and Antonella. They released one album called Ecco in 1978 and that's it. Enjoy this blast from the past and have a nice weekend!

SHOTGUN SOLUTION - Shotgun EP 1983

Nice little 7Inch by this band from Rome with four wild & angry shotguns, released via High Rise and this record is all they made on vinyl. Singer Valter is in my opinion a 'softer' type of Raw Power's Mauro but don't worry, hier wird ordentlich aufgedreht. Shotgun Solution opened for the Dead Kennedys in their show in Rome in 1982 and were Valter (vox), Stefano (guitar), Alberto (drums) and Pierpaolo (bass). RaveUp Records released in 2016 a repro (350 copies) called "1983" with one unreleased track. That's it, I'm tired again and in four hours the night's over.

S.I.B. - The Third World War 1981

From Greek to Italy, a short trip across the Mediterranean Sea, and visiting S.I.B. (Swelling Itching Brain), a short-lived Punk combo which started in summer 1980 by members Red (guitar), Dirk (drums), Hirschmann (guitar), Sidney (bass) and Tracy († 2007 ) on vox. They playing several great and powerful gigs and just after a performance at the Girasele Club in Ravenna in January '81 a producer of a small independent label asked the band to make an album. So in 1981 their only record was released via LM Records with twelve rousing anthems and in 1982 the situation inside the band became a total bore and after a gig at Cesena on June 28th 1982 Tracy and Red decided to leave definately, then the band get to break up. This is a small part of their bio, more on discogs. I find it a bit sad that they have not singing in Italian but that's another story. Also necessary: Killed by Death #201 and My Girlfriend Was A Punk!
