TILT - Runął Już Ostatni Mur EP 1985

Tilt is a Polish wave/punk/rock band and regarded as one of the first punk bands in Poland. Founded in Warsaw in 1979 they've been existing with several breaks until now. This is their first release (Already Collapsed Last Wall) with 3 numbers. Special mention here that the saxophone is an integral part in all songs and it is my opinion here a good idea. I do not know a lot of punk bands that used at that time such a Instrument. All sung in Polish which give the songs a special charm. A very good first output and their best one. The following albums are too much poppy to me. Check it out.

TOXIC REASONS - Kill By Remote Control 1984

These damn re-upps are annoying but what am I not doing for the common mob? Right, I'll fix them and you will elect me to be your next president, hehe..... well, another fuckin' Monday needs meaning and I think, I have just the right thing at this advanced hour. So come with me to Ohio and meet Toxic Reasons with their second release on Sixth Int. and the first without the services of Ed Pittman on vocals. After Ed departed in 1983, they continued as four piece and have over forty recordings to date, including ten full length albums. A short review: "Kill by Remote Control, with a revised line-up, is great, a cogent punk onslaught with articulate protest lyrics and finely tuned dynamic guitar (Rob Lucjak & Bruce Stuckey) rock. Some of the numbers vamp into a tedious overdrive mode, but most of the record uses its full-tilt electricity in service of well-constructed (if not really melodic) songs." [Jim Green/Ira Robbins] - It can stay that way. The God Bless America EP and other compilation contributions, of which the gentlemen have enough, await your visit.

August kick off with another compilation from Get Baque Records with rare stuff, this time from beautiful Portugal. Twenty nuggets from 1978 - 1982 and make clear that there was also an excellent underground scene, albeit small, but they wrote heartily variable and refreshing songs and the original 7Inches from which most of the pieces are sourced are hard to get today. Therefore, it is important that music maniacs like us are bringing their collections to the people. Discover new and old well-tried and enjoy the evening sun at the beach with fresh antique music and a cold longdrink!

BRYGADA KRYZYS - s/t LP 1982

Brygada Kryzys (Crisis Brigade) or B.K. is one of the most important and influential Polish punk/rock reggae bands. The band was founded in 1981 by two well-known guitarist/vocalists from Warsaw, Robert Brylewski (formerly of the band Kryzys) and Tomasz Lipinski (from Tilt). This is the first album and the recordings were made between February and April 1982 in a studio in Warsaw. The Album is considered as the first officially record in Poland (....) with punk rock and new wave music. Appeared in the circulation of about 150.000 copies. It's understood that part of it has been directed to sell and has appeal because of the bold work of the team in the face of contemporary socio-political situation. Some critics, however, undermine the claim of milling of effort. The crisis in the music media poll for the best Polish post-war record came in second place. In March 1982 the recording company “Tonpress” opens a new studio in Warsaw’s Wawrzyszew district and begins looking for a band to test it. BK manager, Jacek Olechowski, suggests the group. Over a few days several songs were recorded and “Tonpress”, with hesitation, agrees to publish the record. The result is this awesome dark punk/wave record with nine melancholic punky tunes and I listen while I post this to Love A (the German punk band this hour, check their songs on youtube or whatever). - I'm in a very drunken constitution yet and all this info it stolen from fuckipedia. Anyway, this is a glorious record.

TZN XENNA - 1981-2011 EP 2012

Exotic punk now while watching the soccer match vs Denmark and I have much info about the When, Where + Whys: TZN Xenna is a punk combo from Warsaw and one of the earliest in Poland. The band was founded in August 1981 by vocalist Krzysztof "Zygzak" Chojnacki, guitarist Marek "Markus" Kucharski, drummer Tomasz "Gogo Szulc" Kożuchowski and bassist Piotr "Czomby" Dubiel, who was soon replaced by Jacek "Sydney" Zientała (as Dubiel became the guitarist for Deuter). Initially, the band used the name Kamash And The Ekers. Their rehearsals took place in the "Skarpa" Community Center, where the musicians played their first concert on September 9, 1981. In autumn 1982 the band played the "Rock Galicja" tour with Dezerter and Deuter in the southern part of Poland, performing in, among other places, Rzeszów and Krosno. In August, they won the qualifying rounds at the "Open Rock" festival in Krakow's "Rotunda", performing alongside groups such as Turbo and Stalowy Bagaż, which allowed them to perform at the festival in Jarocin. However, the musicians declined to do so, describing it as a "militia festival". At that time, the group appeared in a report by Telewizja Polska on subcultures ("The Way of Life" by Ewa Skurczyńska), as well as in a program about Polish punks produced by the West German television ARD. In 1983, Zygzak was replaced by Falkonetti, as new singer. Not much later, the musicians stopped their activities. Gogo Szulc left to join Tilt, while Sydney, in the second half of the 1980s, started a short collaboration with Robert Gawliński (then ex-Madame) in the form of the band The Didet Bidet.

In 1984, TZN Xenna returned with a line-up of Zygzak, Markus, Falkonetti (bass guitar) and new drummer Dariusz "Dynia" Dynowski. With this line-up the band performed in October in the Warsaw club "Stodoła", playing alongside with Siekiera and Youth Brigade. The following year, the musicians performed, among others at the "Róbrege" festival, and recorded four songs in the Tonpress studio.

In 1986 Robert "Mionek" Micorek joined the band as a second guitarist. This five-member TZN Xenna line-up played concerts until mid-1987, when the musicians decided to quit. Zygzak later continued playing in the bands Lumpers and The Klaszcz. Dynowski joined Deuter between 2000 - 2003 as a drummer. 2011 they played an concert as part of the 2nd edition of the Rock na Bagnie festival in Strękowa Góra and the year ended with the release of their second EP, TZN Xenna 1981-2011. In April 2012 the band entered the studio and recorded material for their third EP, Ścierwo and performed at the Jarocin Rock Festival for the first time in its history. On September 1, 2012 they played their first foreign gig in history in Berlin and in November, the first studio album Pogo Girls saw the light of day

JERRY'S KIDS - Is This My World? 1983

This Hardcore classic belongs in every damn record collection! Jerry's Kids is one of the earliest Boston Hardcore/Punk combos which formed 1981 by Bryan (vocals), Dave & Bob (guitars), Rick (bass), Brian (drums) and the band was named after a long-running fund-raising organization that comedian Jerry Lewis formed for children with cerebral palsy. Their first recorded output was on the This Is Boston, Not L.A. compilation on Modern Method Records in 1982. Frontman Bryan & Dave left the band early on, so Rick (Bryan's brother) switched to vocals and Chris of Gang Green took over on rhythm guitar and this line-up recorded this classic twelve song debut which came out via X-Claim in 1983. An excellent, powerful start into the weekend is guaranteed and an excellent review brings the right words to it, which I like to quote: "An adventure into hyperactive, full-tilt, bulldozing quickness and thundering power. This overwhelming supply of burning rapid-fire speed destroys the mold, exploding into maniac doses of invincible strength and energy. Bolting drums, high-velocity crooning, and hysterically blistering wild guitars (featuring ex-GANG GREEN axeman Chris Doherty). JERRY’S KIDS totally shred the eardrums to mincemeat. For the fast fanatic’s cravings; the essence of what other will try to duplicate." (Pushead, MRR #10 • December 1983) They broke up in 1985, but reformed in 1987 with a more speed metal sound and released a second LP on Taang! Records entitled Kill Kill Kill, they reunited again 2004 and been playing several shows (mostly the Boston area) since then, so keep your eyes open.

V/A - Victim Of Safety Pin 2003

A request of a visitor from Poland next and I am happy because I didn't listen to the LP for a long time and so I came in touch again: Polski Punk Underground 1977-82. Released on Supreme Echo and 1100 copies were pressed. This record is absolute punk. The sound quality is not the best, sometimes close to the pain barrier but all these tunes are all originals, rare live and rehearsal recordings which would otherwise have remained lost in the eternal blackness and this would be fatal if you look at the songlists. On the MySpace site from Supreme Echo I have this for you: "The critically acclaimed, first and most accurate documentation on the development of punk, new wave, and hardcore in the former People's Republic of Poland. This document provides not only in depth history's of each band featured, but also a well constructed history of rock and roll in Poland, and it's eventual evolution into punk - and how it all fits into the sociological, cultural, and political world around it. Seriously, I feel that this is one of the most interesting and crucial pieces of punk rock's forgotten history, and I recommend it most highly.” (MRR-Nov.2003) - Seventeen songs, fourteen bands, twenty page booklet with massive essay and biographies (unfortunately not inside). - Top record and it's no wonder this sucker was quickly sold out.

2.Piosenka O Mojej Generacji - DEUTER
3.Swiety Szczyt - KRYZYS

CANAL TERROR - Zu Spät 1983

Next classic German Punk album is the debut record from Canal Terror and I don't know how many times I played this LP up and down: angry, aggressive, rebellious music which has nothin' lost of their rudeness. Founded 1980 in Bonn by Tommy, Volker and Dominik, 15 to 17 years old, in the following year 14-year-old drummer Rainer completed the band. 1981 published the first demo recordings and a Super-8 film on which they introduced for the first time their most popular song 'Staatsfeind'. In December, the band participated on the compilation Soundtracks Zum Untergang 2 (AGR). Canal Terror played this year their first concerts outside of Cologne and Bonn with Black Flag, Minutemen, Slime, OHL, etc... More demo tapes were released in the following two years. In December 1982 they recorded their debut LP, appeared due to differences with label boss Karl-Ulrich Walterbach, in the spring of 1983. Tommy left the band in 1983 after internal disputes and Rainer moved to the micro. Ex-Toxoplasma bassist Stefan came as a drummer. Frank Glienke ("KutA") was for a few concerts the second guitarist but left the band very soon. The group toured again with Razzia, Inferno, Neurotic Arseholes, Boskops, Die Ärzte, etc... and the recordings for the compilation Underground Hits 2 emerged. Again it come to quarrels and Dominik and then Volker left the band. The band continued until 1984 by Rainer and Stefan and with other members. On the Dutch sampler 'Babylon Bleibt Fahren' the song "Staatsfeind" was in a live version on it and shortly after this release the band split up for good. In December 1991 the band played in the original line-up a unique concert in the Biscuithalle/Bonn, together with Toxoplasma, Die Skeptiker and the British band Urge. In 1992 Red Rossetten Records released a CD with recordings of this gig under the title "Live In Bonn". AGR reissued without the permission of the band their first album in the 90's and so Canal Terror secured in a trial against AGR the rights to their songs. A Review: "Canal Terror produce diverse hardcore material on their debut album, including full-tilt thrash ("Multis," the title cut, etc.), Oi!-influenced stuff ("Bonn-Duell"), '77 punk with melodic guitars ("100 Mann"), reggae-punk mixtures ("Mallorca"), some cool Rock'N'Roll ("Hey"), and even a funnypunk version of "My Bonnie." The guitars should have been emphasized more in the mix, but this record is still entertaining as hell." - Jeff Bale (from MMR #8, September 1983) / That's the story so far, for me another major record which is second to none today.

COMRADE - What About The Children EP 1995

I was able to experience the next band live sometime in the early nineties, but I really don't know exactly when and where, what is for sure; I bought their demo back then and posted it in my carefree days on wilddevilrules. But to the slab, their only EP is finally ready and I promise you refreshingly hearty streetpunk from a very nice combo. A few facts: Comrade was an anti-fascist/anti-racist Oi! band from Antwerp, with Klaas (vocals), Joost (guitar), Bib (bass), Joris (drums) & Marc (harmonica). They were around from the late 80s to half-way the 90s and did a demo (1990) & a EP on Mad Butcher Records. As far as official, now a few words from Klaas himself, which I like to quote and found on Brob Tilt's Tapes blog as decent source, there you can also find a famous live recording from 1988:

"The band originated in 1986 during a Conflict concert in Antwerp. We could do better than what we saw on stage, we thought. We were skins who wanted to play Oi!. That gave a bad after-taste in the Antwerp punk-scene. We were going to show that those kind of prejudices were bullshit. The politically correct thinking was damping freedom, also back then. People wanted to put us in a corner; for the Antwerp punk-scene skinheads were nazis and racists. ‘Comrade’ wanted to show that skinheads had nothing to do with fascism. We were never a political band but only because of our militant anti-racism (words & action), we were easily labeled as leftist. Our name did(n’t) help to that matter, for sure, haha. We played until 1992 all over Europe. Because of our self-willed choices we didn’t really fit in a certain current, group or movement. We’ve always chosen our own path. We never forgot our roots: Skinhead & Oi!. Nostalgia isn’t our thing but we will show the newer generation what us oldies still have to say and do what they think. In 2021 we’ll be on stage a couple of times, playing festivals in Germany. Our first mini-LP will also be released, together with a compilation of demos and live recordings." (Klaas)

Now you are reasonably informed and let's see if I can still find the demo somewhere in the wide spheres of my digital music world, because there are six songs on it. Enjoy!

RAMRODS - Schickeria, Schweine & Bonzen EP 1980

Ultra obscure (they never played live and members weren't part of the local scene anymore by the time their records saw the light of day) Hannover-based punk quartet which arose out of the ashes of unrecorded legendary P38 with their first single released on Tilt Records. Recorded & mixed in MusicLab Berlin, April/June 1980. Four solid german punk tunes which pumps every KBD heart faster.
