RAMONES - @ The Palladium, NYC 7.1.1978

"Hey Ho Let's Go" - Yes, you know what comes... Yeah, the Ramones and I must tell you not much. In the World Wide Web there is sufficient information available. Like the Sex Pistols, the Ramones stands for punkrock of the first hour. Every punk has their records in the shelf, of course even me. Unlike the British with their snotty anarchic style the Ramones playing short, melodic, snotty 1-2-3-4 hymns and influenced a lot of bands. They were also different from the outfit; leather jackets, worn jeans, sneakers and long hairstyles (like the Beatles), almost in uni-look, the Ramones outfit was born. For me in addition to the Dead Kennedys the best band from the U.S. - This bootleg was recorded at the Palladium in New York City on January 7, 1978 in an amazing sound quality. Tommy Ramone is the drummer on this recording. He left the band soon afterwards, although he continued to work with them as a producer and manager, this is his last album as drummer. Hard to believe that all members are dead. I will listen to the Ramones till my death because this feelin' is etched in me. Have fun with this sound and "Gabba Gabba Hey" my true followers.

V/A - Burning Ambitions (A History Of Punk) 1982

Burning Ambition: The History of Punk, attempts to be a definitive overview of the British (except DK) wave/punk scene in the late 70s/early 80s and while it falls short of its goals, it's nevertheless an admirable effort. The Crème de la Crème are here to honor, only classics on it. Surely some of you, like me, have the original records at home but this double album should become a favorite of yours, because this record is one of the finest punk compilations which is ever released. THE UNDERDOGS - The Punk Demos Collection 2015

Fine tidbit by Common People Records which remastered the demos of the Underdogs and brings this as limited edition finally for us available. All tracks taken from their first demo “Riot In Rothwell” that was recorded 1982 and from their second demo “East Of Dachau”, recorded 1983 and it's a terrific revelation, pure impactInfo from Backcover:

The Underdogs from Leeds, were a prolific band of the second batch of UK Punk. They recorded two brilliant demos between 1982 & 1983. The band were formed in 1981, and their name was inspired by the song of the Mancunian legends The Drones. Although some pundits likened them to the The Clash, SLF and Dead Kennedys their own preferences were varied. That said, all four members were fans of The Clash. They rehearsed at the Windmill Youth Club in Rothwell (Leeds), which was also the launching pad of fellow Riot City Punksters, The Expelled.

They recorded their first demo in 1981, which included the songs 'Big Brother' and 'Make It Last'. However, it was their second visit to the studio in 82/83 (this time funded by Riot City, that saw their finest hour), the production of 'East of Dachau' EP, which, with 'Johnny Go Home' and 'Dead Soldier' announced their arrival on the Punk scene.

Despite limited success, mainly due to lack of gigs, Riot City persevered with the band and an 8' track Mini-Album was planned for the following year. Sadly, Riot City fell into financial difficulties at this time and so those 8' tracks, which included 'Never Gonna Give Up', 'Hate Bomb' and 'Paint It Red' never saw daylight. During the following year they managed to do a few gigs, supporting The Toy Dolls, Angelic Upstarts and Subhumans among others but they never got the chance to play outside the UK. The very last line-up was: Bill and UG (The Underdogs) and Macca and Tim (The Expelled). By this time they had changed their name to Paradise West. They played one gig supporting the Upstarts then disbanded, permanently. 'Riot In Rothwell' was released posthumously... Using the tracks from the 8" track EP that never was. (UG 2015)

Fifteen solid punk dutties, still fresh and without a best before date - TOP!!!

V/A - P.E.A.C.E. Compilation 2LP 1984

I don't think this excellent release in form of a double record set can be more topical, and as we all have to realize, mankind hasn't gotten any wiser even after almost forty years. There is always some aggressor somewhere who expresses its sick ideology with lies and blind helpers and it is appalling that no diplomacy, no system, and no sensible compromise can prevent a violent confrontationPathetic, disappointing & lifeless all the pursuit of power and heroism. About the record: "This massive international Hardcore/Punk compilation features fifty-five bands/songs and was organized and released by the infamous MDC on the band's own label R Radical Records. The worldwide hardcore scene was at its peak at this point, still underground enough to repel corrupting outside influences like major labels and heavy metal, but already hardened into a rigid aesthetic and political dogma that often encouraged groupthink and musical conformity. P.E.A.C.E. documents the state of "Reagan-era" Hardcore, just before the popularity of extreme music spread through decidedly non-radical camps and into the mainstream. Among the fifty-five bands on board are well-known plus the best tracks by courtesy of obscure groups of the local scenes from Argentina, South Africa to Japan. Most of the bands included retain, either through design or some bizarre quirk of ineptitude, a stamp of individuality on their sound that makes this an entertaining collection.

An extensive booklet insert is packed with political rants, cartoons, and suggestions for further reading, making explicit the double-LP's theme of activism and action against a corrupt authority. Plus, each band is provided with a full page to express their ideas (and plug their wares) with printed lyrics and crudely effective collage art. Reissued on CD in 1997 by New Red Archives with bonus cuts." (Fred Beldin) - A real highlight of an international gathering that shows how it can work.

THE NAILS - Dangerous Dreams 1986

Before I dedicate myself to football this record and I don't know how I got this? Anyway, fact is that also very good new wave music was created overseas, a bit different from the UK sound but The Nails prove with their second album that they had what it took, ten beautiful melodic songs crown Dangerous Dreams and I listen to it a second time in a row (especially the voice of Marc is fantastic). A bit info from wiki: the Nails were originally a five-piece new wave band that formed in Boulder/Colorado in 1976, originally named as the Ravers, and their roadie, Eric Boucher, later became known as Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys. The band members were Marc Campbell (lead vocals, guitar), Dave Kaufman (keyboards), Al Leis (drums), Artie Freeman (lead guitar), and Jon Cormany (bass).

In 1977, the Ravers recorded an EP in Boulder with Screwball Records. The Ravers moved to New York in June 1977 and played the showcase clubs CBGB and Max's Kansas City. Shortly after arriving in NY, The Ravers changed their name to The Nails (there was a local band named Raver). A '45 with the band's original lineup was recorded in New York City in 1978. By mid-1978, Leis (now deceased), Cormany, and Freeman (now a medical school professor) had left the band.

By the late 1970s, The Nails had established themselves on the club circuit and were now composed of vocalist Marc Campbell, bassist George Kaufman, saxophonist Douglas Guthrie, drummer Mike Ratti (Dennis McDermott on Mood Swing), keyboardist Dave Kaufman, and guitarist Steve O'Rourke. Hotel for Women, an EP recorded in 1981, contained an early version of "88 Lines About 44 Women", a song that caught the attention of RCA. The Nails were signed to RCA by Bruce Harris, also known for bringing The Clash to America. In 1984 "88 Lines About 44 Women" was re-recorded for RCA and included on The Nails' full-length debut LP, Mood Swing. The song received regular airplay despite a number of double entendres and lyrical references to masturbation and sadomasochism.

Two years later they released Dangerous Dreams, also on RCA. Both Mood Swing and Dangerous Dreams made the Billboard top 200 album chart and were critically acclaimed. But after the release of Dangerous Dreams The Nails left RCA. RCA did not release either LP on compact disc. "88 Lines About 44 Women" continued to appear on compilations 20 years after its release and was featured in a Mazda television commercial that aired in the late 1990s.

In 1988, the band reconvened (without Guthrie and Dave Kaufman) to record a third album, Corpus Christi, which was not released until 1993 and received little exposure. The Nails deny ever receiving any proceeds from this album, citing a rift with their former producer, claiming that he swindled them of their rights. They posted re-recordings of these songs on the late George Kaufman's site, along with the explanation of the dispute. They strongly discourage fans from purchasing the album, as they will never be compensated.

V/A - A Small Retrosperspective (Live!) 2019

THE KRIXHJÄLTERS - Guineapig Assasinator 1986

The Krixhjälters, later Omnitron, was formed in Stockholm in 1982 by Rasmus Ekman (guitar, vocals), Pontus Lindqvist (bass, vocals) and Stefan Gorini (drums, vocals), inspired by the American bands Black Flag and Dead Kennedys. The band name was created partly as a parody of the construction of certain dance band names. The band's debut album was recorded in 1984 but first released in 1986, on the record label Rosa Honung. Already in 1985, however, the songs Magic Mushrooms and The Guardian Of Society were released on the compilation Really Fast Vol.2 with current Swedish punk bands. During a period of the mid-1980s, the band were more or less inactive. Pontus Lindqvist and Pelle Ström then joined the band Aggressiv, where Pontus sang and Pelle played guitar. Shortly after the first MLP was recorded, in 1985, guitarist Pelle Ström also started in the band, Gorini quit, and Stefan Kälfors replaced drums. The group signed a contract with CBR Records and recorded another Mini-LP, Hjälter Skelter (1988). At Krixhjälter's early recordings, some songs are sung in Swedish, but from Hjälter Skelter and onwards all texts are performed in English. The full-length album Evilution was released in 1989 and the band also had the opportunity to record the Christmas single A Krixmas Carol (1989) under the original name. This record consists of a common song on one side and on the other side in front of the band members, their song, with text and music written by each, in exactly one minute each. In 1989 the band was also represented with the song He Speaks on the collection album The Swedish Stand, published by Sinderella.

AHEADS - s/t LP 1981

Excellent record now: short crunchy crackers and another one of my favorites. The Aheads from Herford were one of the first punk bands in the region of East Westphalia. 1975 they were founded as "Ron Age Band" and their first appearance was in 1977 at Hellepark under the name "Those Fuckin' Aheads" named after rockers from the Crumb Comix. After the first punk songs from England could be heard through the radio broadcast by John Peel in Germany and by attending a concert by Wire, the band began writing their own songs. With their unconventional sound for its time the band led by former British soldier Andy Stillon known punk bands like the Dead Kennedys has enthusiastically. The Aheads debut was the 'Freedom Of Speech EP' and one year later two songs on the great Soundtracks Zum Untergang compilation. Then toured with Slime, Betoncombo and Middle Class Fantasies. After the tour the band recorded their only album in Berlin which was released by AGR. Their last gig was in 1982 at the Audimax in Bielefeld. After the dissolution of the band guitarist Bernd and drummer Werner played in the 80s in a number of not very long-lived bands. Under the name Roll On Roll Off they released the single "Fig. 320" and the self-produced mini album "Pussy Push" in 1988. Andy Stillion, the singer of the band died on 11.July 2010 in the morning. With his girlfriend on a boat trip to the Farne Islands, he collapsed on the boat. In 2011 the remaining band members published a showcase with all produced songs including a DVD supplement with photos of their active career. A consistent, strongly recommended LP.

THE SQUIRT - Men And Their Masters 1985

The only album by this fantastic combo was released via Weird System and the four were inspired by the sound of such great bands as the Dead Kennedys, D.O.A., Black Flag, etc.... the Squirt founded at the beginning of the Eighties in Zurich and consisted of Marc (vocals/guitars), Gertjan (bass/vocals), Ueli (drums/guitars/vocals) and their aim was to become the fastest and toughest Swiss band. They recorded a demotape in 1983 with fourteen Songs and somehow it fell into the hands of the Hamburgers and they were immediately enthusiastic and decided to make an album with them, and so Men & Their Masters was recorded, followed by a Germany tour. In terms of sound, the Squirt is fast and precise, a healthy portion of Hardcore that rarely comes from the Alpine country, and the potential is strong and the level is very high, they absolutely don't have to hide behind the aforementioned bands, the four can inspire with thier record. A real smasher!

D.R.I. - Live @ CBGB'S New York 1984

This brings back a lot of memories. In the early 80s I listen to a lot of Metal stuff because I was a Metaller with all my heart. I leave this style when I came in touch with American Hardcore bands like Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, Warfare (UK) etc.... so also with D.R.I. The Hardcore sound was an integral part in this scene and then more and more concerts took place I rather visited of course those gigs as Megadeth or Anthrax. 1986 then D.R.I. live in my city, together with Holy Moses (ARRGGHHH!) and this show changed my lifestyle completely. I will not say that they made me a punk because I've also heard some German punk bands, EA80, Slime, Daily Terror, OHL for example, but they were rarely present live as the ami bands. I would say my interest in metal was deleted this evening, First-class performance with pogo till the shack crashed, unforgotten. Who ever saw a D.R.I. gig can attest to this. A little info:

D.R.I. (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles) is a crossover thrash band from the United States that formed in Houston, in 1982. The band currently comprises founding members, vocalist Kurt Brecht and guitarist Spike Cassidy, as well as drummer Rob Rampy and bassist Harald Oimoen. D.R.I. never gained a mainstream audience, but the integration of their hardcore punk roots with thrash metal influences was a stylistic catalyst for their contemporaries - most notably Suicidal Tendencies, Corrosion Of Conformity and Stormtroopers Of Death - alongside whom they are considered pioneers of what would later be called "crossover thrash." They have released seven original studio albums, the last of which was released in 1995. Since then, the band has continued touring and intermittently going on hiatus. In 2004, D.R.I. released a web-only demo track "Against Me", their first recording in a decade. For years, there has been talk of an eighth D.R.I. album, which has yet to materialize.

The first three albums are all terrific and as '4 Of A Kind' came out the music was too monotonous to me and I lost interest. I love more the rapid, wild aggressive sound and here on this CD are all their hits. Forty songs in Thirty-Nine minutes. A Must Listen!!

E.A.T.E.R. - Doomsday Troops EP 1983

Ernst And The Edsholm Rebels – E.A.T.E.R. were formed in the summer of 1982 in Grums/Kil, Värmland, Sweden by Mikael “Gröten” Karlsson (guit/vox), Anders Brännström (bass), Peter “Pelle” Forsman (drums) and Hans “Hasse” Dahlgren (vox). and this first line-up of E.A.T.E.R. recorded Chaos Cassette vol.1 which was realesed in the fall of 1982. A number of gigs were played by this first line-up, among them the chaotic and by media well documented gig at Segmons Folkets hus in february of 1983. By the release of the bands debut EP Doomsday Troops (Ernst Records) Hasse was replaced by Mikael “Micke” Larsson as the leadsinger. Micke had earlier played in Psykjouren together with infamous and by now nationwidely known Buddha. Doomsday Troops EP was recorded and produced In KAAS by the band & Micke Blomqvist, and released in the summer of 1983. The record was sold all over the world, and E.A.T.E.R. recived recognition from people like Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys and Pushead, the artist that made Metallicas and the Misfits cartoons. With the new line-up and a sucessfull record-realese the band went on the road and toured Sweden. A review: "Not to be confused with the '77 U.K. punk band Eater, this Swedish group (Ernst And The Edsholm Rebels) floor down on the acceleration and rapidly hit fast, lightning doses of 1000-m.p.h. thrash mayhem. An outrageous display of burning speed and mind-boggling turbulence, combined with chaotic chops of lyrical expression. Don't be fooled by the hilarious intro to the title cut--this EP hauls its load fast and furious in the new Swedish tradition." - Pushead (from Maximum Rock'n'Roll #13, April/May 1984) - The band is still active and I recommend this five piece of classic swedish hardcore tunes and the compilations Really Fast #1 and Killed By Hardcore #2.

V/A - The Beerdrop Explodes 1983

A compilation which brings simply sunshine in your house. Released on Abstract Records this rare album proves once again how funny the english pub/oi!/punk scene was. Stuff what I really like here, full with different kind of music, punk/reggae/oi! and a bit folk (hä!). Remarkably the version of 'Rawhide' which I only know from Dead Kennedys, here in an accordion ride, quite delicious. The rest is consistently funny and this record is a good example to take life not too seriously. Have yourself a Whiskey, relax and listen while you are draining a big fart.

THE IMPS - s/t LP 2022

Interesting plater by Bollmora Rekords and this combo meets me for the first time and they kick really ass. The Imps started 1977 in Stockholm and members were Anders (vocals), Jonas & Kai (guitars), Magnus (bass), Christer (drums) and unfortunately never made it onto vinyl during their active days. So this little compilation features fourteen songs (recorded 1978-1981, I think) from their rehearsal room and probably also live pieces in an extreme uncooked & raw quality. A few liner notes: "And in the late '70s, when the Sex Pistols and Ramones were putting out their records, musical ability wasn't important. However, we were motivated and formed the Imps at a young age (fifteen and still students) and took part-time jobs to fund our equipment. Somehow we got everything together and started rehearsing in a basement of our school with cover versions and after a while we played our first gig to a full house at a school party in Fisksätra. It was a great loud evening and when we were finished after thirty minutes, only ten people were left in the room, but those ten loved us. The Imps got better and better and they gigged all around Stockholm. In 1981 we opened for the Dead Kennedys at a place called Underground in Stockholm. The band made two demo tapes before we called it a day in 1982." (Anders, January 2022)

You see, this is a little story of how it happened at many places in those days, and the will & desire to make music burns like wildfire and is the drive to start something meaningful with its young age. The Imps are passion, crazy & musically simple but incredibly sympatheticListen!

RAW POWER - Screams From The Gutter 1985

I thought I had already posted this record, but to my shame I find out, No.. so now it's time for a fucking milestone awesome Hardcore stuff and I'm talkin' about the second album by Raw Power from Poviglio on Toxic Shock. The deal with the label came about during a tour of the USA in 1984 when the five performed with the Dead Kennedys in Los Angeles. It was on this show that they were discovered by Bill Sassenberger, owner of Toxic Shock Records. The band signed a record deal with Bill, from which the album Screams From The Gutter emerged and this sold well over 40.000 copies, exclusively through independent distributors and shops. As you can hear, this slab was played very often, cracks properly, but is that a wonder ???? No!, powerful songs with excellent lyrics and vocals that I rarely heard back then. AllMusic editor Eduardo Rivadavia gave the album a perfect five-star rating, describing it as "one of the all-time classics of the '80s crossover movement" and "as seminal a document of '80s crossover as has ever been recorded". I can only agree because there is nothing wrong with this album and a worthy farewell to September. A must have!

THE LEWD - American Wino 1982

Anyone who has heard the Lewd's great late '70s single "Kill Yourself" can vouch for the raw, crazed energy of this young Seattle punk combo. Their self-released single has commanded high prices based on its rarity, not to mention the fact that it kicks ass. The Lewd were an outgrowth of an earlier band called the Sixteen Year Old Virgins, who changed their name to the Knobs. Lead singer J. Satz Baret was formerly as "Satin Sheets," and played in the later, non-cabaret version of Ze Whiz Kids, circa1975. Ze Whiz Kids, primarily a theater group, also included the late Tomata Du Plenty, of the Screamers. According to Satz, The Knobs "never really played. We were going to play, had publicity ahead of us, photo sessions and a flyer that announced that we were coming soon!" Yet the Knobs never played an official show, because as Satz says "we had no songs." Like that's stopped anyone else?

However, the Knobs did play one intimate "performance" at a Fremont rehearsal space called The Funhole. This A-list evening was written up in a Seattle punk fanzine Twisted. Satz chainsawed a stage monitor during "Chain Saw Sex." 'Nuff said. The Lewd's first show was in the Northwest punk Bethlehem, Vancouver, B.C. The Lewd opened for the Ramones on June 8, 1977 for an evening of pure insanitainment. Johnny Vinyl, a member of a local band that used an unpronounceable symbol for their name (it's commonly pronounced "Aaiieee!") remembers the Lewd opening up for the Ramones at Seattle's

They released a great three-song EP on Scratched Records in 1979. The record was a home studio recording, and included the insane "Kill Yourself." The B-side numbers, "Trash Can Baby" and "Pay Or Die" are equally great crash 'n' burn punk tunes, all with Blobbo (Kurdt Vanderhoof of Metal Church) playing bass.

In late 1979, Satz and Blobbo moved The Lewd to San Francisco and Blobbo switched over to guitar, adding Bob Clic on bass. This band recorded some demos and played SF for nearly a year until Blobbo quit to form his new venture Metal Church, who released quite a few heavy metal albums. Bob Clic moved to guitar, and part-time model Olga de Volga came in on bass. Olga had played with other bands, including one called VS and often played Lewd shows wearing outrageous black leather outfits. The band appeared on the 1980 seven-inch, four-band EP S.F. Underground 2 (Subterranean Records) doing the fast-paced punker "Mobile Home." With Christopher Reece in as drummer, they released their only LP, "American Wino," on ICI Records in 1982. Having fully absorbed the emerging faster hardcore punk sound, this blistering document features one side of studio recordings done in Hollywood, and another side culled from a live performance at Target Video Studios. This album is a crucial document of the San Francisco early '80s hardcore scene, right up there with releases by Flipper, VKTMs, No Alternative, Dead Kennedys, etc.

After the LP was released, Bob Clic left and the band fizzled out soon afterwards. Olga moved to Hawaii, and Chris Reece became a member of Social Distortion. In 1999 Sats and Clic played with The Loudmouths for two live shows in San Francisco, billed as The Lewdmouths. Both shows were insane and the band sounded great. These shows were so much fun it prompted the pair to reform The Lewd, although not as a career minded working band, this time it's only for the kicks they get out of playing these songs again. SUBTRACTIONS - It's Exposed EP 2015

Another uncovered whopper, a massive missing link of first wave West Coast punk. Four incredible songs that never saw a release during their tenure until now, boiling over w/punk brilliance, pulse-pounding and antagonistic anthems that immediately command your attention. From the recently-unearthed 1980 studio recordings, HoZac Records presents Punk pioneers from Fresno/California: The Subtractions.

"When one thinks of Fresno, CA punk bands certainly aren't the first thing to come to mind. This sleepy city located inland and about the halfway point between Los Angeles and San Francisco became a hot spot for 60s rock bands to stop through which carried over into the 1970s, when the wave of hard rock washed over the town, resulting in numerous bootleg LPs from AC/DC, Van Halen and more. Fast forward to the appearances of "punk" across American pop culture (DEVO on SNL, Sex Pistols US tour, Ramones planting seeds everywhere) and you've got bands springing up around every corner, Fresno included. And even on the first Maximum Rocknroll compilation, Not So Quiet On the Western Front, three Fresno bands made their debut appearances, Maniax, Nazi Bitch & the Jews and the Frigidettes, but little was known about the bands that predated those, until now.

The Subtractions were the brightest-sounding pure punk band of the bunch, and although stacked with a lively gig schedule, complete with a sold out support slot for the Dead Kennedys, they sadly never left their recorded mark on the world in their original inception, but luckily they DID have the good notion to make a recording before they went their separate ways, and finally seeing the light of day in October 2015 is the "lost" debut EP called It's Exposed on HoZac Records in edition of 500 copies." (Todd Killings) - Here they have four tracks rescued from the vault, listen!”

V/A - Terminal City Ricochet 1989

Well, it's October and I sit at home and rip a few records and while I listen to this splendid album I thought it it the right post for today. This is a soundtrack record with excellent suff. The bands/songs here are damn great and on it one of my absolute favourite tunes, 'Madhouse' from Evan Johns & The H-Bombs, can listen to it everytime, I sit in it namely, brilliant guitars,  driving rhythm, perfect voice and with 6 minutes a really smasher, check it on youtube. The rest is also varied and brings me really in a good mood. Since when Jello has his fingers inside this can's be no shit. A few words about the film: Terminal City Ricochet is a 1990 film by director Zale Dalen. The name was taken from a hockey team called the Terminal City Ricochets. Starring Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), Terminal City Ricochet is a dystopian comedy critical of television and its collusion with government and consumerism. Terminal City Ricochet is well known in cult film circles, but it has only been shown at film festivals, and a few times on pay-TV. The DVD of the film and a CD of the movie soundtrack is available through Alternative Tentacles. OK, let's see if I still post more today, but first further with ripping vinyl. Enjoy this great record!
