REVOLVER - Northern Songs 1979

For the next post I have to thank Bristolboy first, without him I would never have came to this cool band and their only album. His current post is the single from Revolver and this Liverpool four piece has recorded Lennon & McCartney compositions the Beatles never issued and for me as an absolute Beatles fan a damn MUST! Released via Rox Records are here seventeen extraordinary nuggets present, if they had been released by the four themselves, they would certainly have been for sure number one hits. Amazing what brilliant songwriting the two mastered and Revolver brilliantly and respectfully set a monument to them with their versions that sound almost like the originals. I didn't have to think long and got the original record and ripped it myself, because I want my own work. And as a little bonus, you'll find the Fabulous Four's debut work enclosed. This album is a real must and highlight of a musical hightime and unforgettable what the four triggered with their beat music in the early sixties and are still able to inspire. Awesome Stuff!

ANGRY SAMOANS - The 90's Suck & So Do You 1998

Back from the dead, the Angry Samoans with new line-up, Metal Mike (vocals/guitar), Alison (guitar/bass), Tony & Julia (bass), Bill (drums) and this is their first studio album since 1988 on Triple X/Bad Trip Records with eight songs in thirteen minutes. Well, it's no smash like their Eighties recordings, but if you're a friend of the Angrys you'll love this slab, as I do... appropriate to the emotional state of the nation. I guess I'll lie down again so I don't miss the match versus Dortmund later. Good night!

Konzert ARXX / KLOTZS / DUESENJAEGER 04.11.2022

MFD - Music For The Deaf 1987

Debut album by MFD from Washington, D.C. and the four, David (vocals), Richard (guitars), Tom (bass), Brock (drums) are also always welcome in my world. Twelve short melodic straight-ahead pieces with a real nasty, jagged guitar sound which hiss around your ears and where everything fitsThis record is just fun to listen to and kicks your troubles into the universe of the night with a big head start, I guarantee you. And especially at four in the morning when your heart is pounding and your head creates only shit. Check it out!

V/A - Flicknife Records Punk Collection 1995

Let's move on to another compilation from the Punk Collectors Series from Anagram Records and this Volume is full with cool stuff. In addition to well-known bands, there are a few others represented here that put little on vinyl, but that makes this series so interesting. Flicknife Records started in October 1980 by Frenchy and Gina and the first release was the Mystere Fives No Message 7Inch in 1980 and the label is still active and holds on to the attitudes and beliefs that spurred Frenchy to start it. On this CD are the first songs from singles gathered that gave their best in the early days. Absolutely brilliant material and in two hours the SGE will follow versus Marseille, hope they win!

1.Shake Some Action - THE MYSTERE FIVES
2.Total Control - RED RAGE
3.Shell Shock - ERAZERHEAD

VON GAM - s/t EP 2013

Swedish KBD cracker by this three piece from Hovmantorp called Von GamSocks (vocals/guitars), Fripps (bass), Tjup (drums), and they always welcome in my world, especially when Slynkel Rekords [003] also releases a nice 7Inch with five rare nuggets in a limited edition of 300 copies in yellow vinyl. The studio songs were recorded in March 1981 and the live goodies came from a gig on 26.09.1980 in Leesbo at the LadyJane club. EROTISCHER STUHLGANG - Synositis EP 1988

Now a short-lived four piece from Hildesheim which were active in the late 80s and the band consisted of Eva (vocals), Cee Cee (guitars), Flotti (bass), Judas (vocals/drums). Don't be fooled by the tacky band name, there are four solid up-tempo tracks with female and male vocals. The combo first appeared with their self-produced tape Euphorie Im Wahnsinn which was recorded live at the HDJ Hildesheim in 1986 with fifteen tracks, guests on some tape compilations until finally the EP ended their existence as the crowning glory and after that the band presumably broke up and was never seen again, gone in the wake of time, so to speak, like a few lost loves. I'm a bit confused at the moment, so I use more comparisons with the destructive matter of the fucking heart and my insomnia.

FUN FUN CRISIS - Fishing For Compliments 1989

Some time ago I already mentioned the following band and now you can listen to their only album. Fun Fun Crisis are from Hanover and emerged from the ruins of the Cretins & the line-up consisted of Michael (vocals/guitars), Frank (bass), Karsten (drums) and Fishing For Compliments came via 1st Records as part of a small mini-series called Young RebelsI stumbled across this record by accident and since the Cretins records appeal very much to me, I had to buy this copy and musically it ties in seamlessly with the 10Inch. Six catchy, melodic pop songs with a touch of Punk manage to escape yourself from everyday life for good twenty minutes and are just as useful for a romantic evening for two. Maybe a little tip from me to play this music on a hot expectant date if you have no idea. If you like it, you should get this nugget and, as far as I know, it can be had for a few euros, but listen first.

VICIOUS VISIONS - Retrodisrespect 1980-1983 [2019]

Vicious Visions was formed in Halmstad by Magnus Svensson alias No (vocals) & Bo Karlsson alias Mr. Boo (instruments) but soon moved to Berlin and honed his craft in occupied houses in the shadow of the iron curtain. They may come from the same city as Roxette but their music has more in common with Suicide, Stooges and the Residents. Where the single "I beat you" got an extra dimension because the band had no drummer at the time of recording and therefore used drum machine, Retrodisrespect can give a slightly broader understanding of how Vicious Visions sounded; here are songs from both full band set to just the duo behind the single. From wild Punk cleaners to Suicide-scented nowave. In collaboration with the band, Busy Bee Productions can finally give the world a full-length album with Vicious Visions. You can read in Peter Jandreus' Swedish Punk Encyclopedia (which features the cover of the 7Inch "I Beat You/No No's" on the cover) that the duo began in 1979 with covers of the Sex Pistols drowned in an ocean of Feedback and howling. Vicious Visions was a trio with Burco Bozztic drummer of Sabotage 81 for some time, the group performed locally in Malmö, Gothenburg, Denmark & Germany... This fantastic anthology published in 2019 by Busy B Production allows you to do an opinion beyond their single single, an approach much closer to the Residents of the 80s with Snakefinger, Chrome and the early Punk wave of the Screamers than the Swedish Punk bands of the time. Vicious Vision's single "I Beat You" is a holy grail within the Punk, not only because of the limited edition of just 109 items, but also because it is a Monster hit. Great Stuff!

D.R.I. - Dirty Rotten LP 1983

Kurt (vocals), Spike (guitars), Dennis (bass) & Eric (drums), the first line-up of D.R.I. (Dirty Rotten Imbecilesreleased their first masterpiece with twenty-two blasts on a 7Inch in 1983 on their own label Dirty Rotten Records. In the same year it was re-released as 12Inch by R Radical Records (MDC label) and this slab ranks high in my top ten. I remember exactly how blown away I was after going through this Hardcore firework, and the bar was already set high because MDC's debut is a milestone and I had a hard time imagining it rising, but this band from Houston (later based in San Francisco) went one "better". Pure energy paired with skilful, almost virtuoso interplay at a brisk tempo plus Kurt's fantastic voice. This is real magic and makes every Hardcore heart beating faster, being in love is harmless in comparison. And that's exactly the sound to get your emotions straight to the point and create slogans that are burned into your brain. Anyone who has heard that will have to become someone else, at least that's how it was for me. And this music is great if you want to clear your head, when it's full of shit, tried and true home remedy. You see, there's a reason I picked this record for today, and it's the weekend so appropriate for that too. I want give you a sparkling review which I can't:

"Starting with the awesome 'I Don't Need Society' and ending with the anthemic 'Explorer', D.R.I.'s debut album was an important stepping stone in the evolution of both metal and hardcore. D.R.I. drew a line in the sand between the American hardcore bands who wanted to stick close to the original punk sound and bands who wanted to branch out into heavy metal territory. D.R.I.'s use of thunderous heavy metal drumming and California Hardcore songwriting made Dirty Rotten LP something special, putting them in a category with Corrosion Of Conformity and Suicidal Tendencies as the forefront of a new movement. Their angry lyrics revolved around the usual political and social ills, but their approach was a staggering blend of pre-grindcore blastbeats (that particular drumming style may have even had its first recorded instance here), blunt and simplistic guitar riffs, and an acidic vocal workout from the young Kurt Brecht. His charismatic shout was the tone-deaf glue that kept the band together, especially in the face of abbreviated songs and sloppy playing. With some humorous lyrics, endless enthusiasm, and a penchant for short song times (only one song makes it past the two-minute mark), D.R.I.'s debut was a landmark album that paved the way for exciting new hardcore bands to spring up in its wake." (Bradley Torreano)

If you like loud old school Eighties Hardcore, this is for you!
