CH3 - I've Got A Gun/After The Lights Go Out 1991

Once again Anagram Records, today with a Compliation CD from their The Punk Collectors Series and on stage are Channel 3 from Cerritos/CA, formed 1980 by Mike (vocals/guitar), Kimm (guitar), Larry (bass) and Mike (drums). Info: the bands first release was the CH3 7Inch via Posh Boy Records and the slab received good critical notices, but the band’s limited exposure kept it a modest success. This began a campaign to play every show possible, in any location that would have the band. Interest began growing, the band got better, and by the time Fear Of Life was released Summer 1982, the band was ready for its first extensive US tour. At the time, touring the punk club circuit was a shaky proposition at best. There were lots of cancellations, lots of fights and the band’s constant travel probably contributed to its healthy turnover rate, and the 1983 tour in support of After The Lights Go Out saw Posh Boy Veteran Jay Lansford joining the band. Jay, a former member of the Simpletones and Stepmothers brought a new professionalism to them.  Channel 3 was at the peak of its popularity, playing to large crowds, and enjoying chart success in Europe with the I Got A Gun UK release. By the mid eighties, the band was spending more time in the rehearsal studio, experimenting with a five man lineup and stretching out creatively. Airborne , the first release on Enigma records, was a stylistic departure for CH3. Many fans refer to this as the definitive dawn of the “You Guys Suck!” phase in the band’s history. That record’s emphasis on song over speed alienated some fans, but allowed the band to begin playing more high profile shows. Empowered by a new sense of artistic freedom, Channel 3 then delivered Last Time I Drank in 1985, a record that many HardcorePunk fans found not only a shocking display of musicianship, but also a blatant display of disrespect of all things bald, broke, and smelling of clove cigarettes. Never fond of the strict conformity of Punk Rock’s non-conformist manifesto, the band continued to explore musically. The final release of the Eighties was the aptly named Rejected, a curious mix of studio projects that sounds like a weary Amen! after a long and desperate prayer...

The band kept a low profile through the Nineties. Besides the annual Doll Hut benefit show and the rare late night television appearance, the band had all but vanished. But CH3 was not done, they had simply retreated to the basement lab, plotting for the inevitable return with a maniacal laugh! Early 2000’s, CH3 found itself back on the road, and with a new record on Dr Strange Records, the band was back on track and curiously playing to bigger crowds than ever. The last sign of life on vinyl was the Put 'Em Up album (2017) and there will certainly something new, because the band are far from finished!

THE ADVERTS - The Punk 7Inches Collection 1997

One more from the Punk Collectors Series by Anagram Records and today the edition of the Adverts who formed in 1976 and broke up in late 1979, and this little sucker round up every A & B side (seven singles/fourteen songs) by one of the Punk's founding fathers and this fantastic package contains excellent liner notes from singer/songwriter TV Smith. Info: "With their raw, enthusiastic immaturity, the Adverts were a bright, though short-lived, light of the Punk era, distinguished by the fact that their bassist, Gaye Advert, was one of the first female stars of Punkrock. After they (barely) mastered one chord, the Adverts began playing at London's Roxy Club in 1976, where they quickly came to the attention of the Damned's guitarist Brian James. James offered the band an opening spot on the Damned's tour and directed them toward Stiff Records. Stiff released their self-deprecating debut single, "One Chord Wonders," in 1977, when the band could still barely play, but when they released their second single, the disturbingly funny "Gary Gilmore's Eyes," the group rocketed into the U.K. Top 20 in a storm of controversy. The Adverts' first album, Crossing the Red Sea With The Adverts, fulfilled the single's promise, but the second, 1979's Cast Of Thousands, sounded like they poured all of their musical ideas into their first album; the group broke up the following year." (Stephen Thomas Erlewine)

Great music from a band that unfortunately had a much too short lifespan, but still brilliant nowadays!

V/A - Rondelet Records (Punk Singles Collection) 1995

With the emerging punk movement and the numerous new bands, of course, labels had to be founded that brought their music to the people. In England for example, some well-known labels get established and published a few singles, mostly in small editions and nowadays very sought by collectors, and made it possible for some bands to expand their radius and the opportunity to play gigs in other regions, partly over to the mainland. Anagram Records had the idea of creating a series called The Punk Collectors Series in the mid-90s and pressed the singles from these small labels onto CD and brought thus the old classics back to life with these chirping compilations. Today a small selection from Rondelet Records with bands which made more than one single in their lifespan and many of you probably know & partly waiting in the blog.

V/A - Bored Teenagers Vol.10 2017

December, and behind the first door waits another haul of damn rare punk goodies in the ongoing Bored Teenagers series, and for those who are ignorant up to now I recommend every publication, and as long as you can get the vinyl version, these were mostly limited, get the slab, but if you fail, in this case, the CD heals too (suitable as an exclusive Christmas present, maybe?) - I quote a sweet description for you unfortunate consumers:

Info: "First up we bring you the FEATURES who were another old Roxy Club Punk band from Orpington in Kent. Both tracks have been taken direct of the master acetate that the band had cut in 1978 and pressed up 500 copies on their own Progress label. The next band the INNOCENT BYSTANDERS is a real coup for us as its features six unreleased tracks from this obscure London based band. This is the same band that released "Where Is Johnny" on a split single with the "Debutantes" on the 'ROK' label in 1979. I can't stress to you how good these tracks are.... Full of attitude with sneering vocals and the story behind this band is awesome! Next both goodies are brought to you by VAIN AIMS who are a very obscure Welsh band who only ever did one gig and split but in their very short existence they managed to record and released a single to die for and is so hard to track down as only 500 were pressed. What stands out for me on these two tracks are the vocals and the catchiness of the songs..... I can't believe this record is not on every body’s wants list, I put that down to the fact hardly anyone knows about this release! We then bring you the delights of from this North London based band called FENZYX who were mainly made up of ex members of Demon Preacher and released a sole 7" on the collectable 'Ellie Jay' in a pressing size of just 500 copies again in 1981. The third track from this band is totally unreleased until this day! It is a dub version and very unique. Following on we bring you the rarest UK Punkrock single ever pressed. Yes, the GREAT BRITISH HEROES (aka GBH), both tracks have been taken from their withdrawn Lightning Records release. When this single surfaced a few years ago, ALL the collectors around the world went into total meltdown and were shocked that it was actually pressed, NOT even the band were aware! We now move onto another old favourite of ours as we were the first ones to crack the mystery of Birmingham’s ANTI SOCIAL. Most collectors would of heard these tracks by now but we wanted to share the story behind this band. Plus a third track by this band what was going to be on their second single which never happened. The penultimate band THE PEROID hail from the outskirts of Manchester and were mates of the Buzzcocks. This band started off life in 1976 and did go through a few line up changes but did get their act together enough to enter into a studio. Sadly over the years, the master tape had got lost and these tracks have been salvaged from an old cassette found at the back of a draw. Now onto the band that closes this volume for us are UNDERDOG who were from Harlow in Essex. Not strictly a Punk band as they were on the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal scene but we thought it was a cross over single. Plus both sides of the single are a Full On Attack Of Noise and in the true punk spirit they formed their own label and self financed a run of just 500 copies - another tough record to find! So there you go and enjoy another album filled with rarities & great nuggets!"

Once again a brilliant selection of twenty-four catchy UK Punk Rarities. ENJOY!

2.Job Satisfaction - THE FEATURES
3.(I Wanna Be A) Mercenary - INNOCENT BYSTANDERS

V/A - Punk Rock Rarities Vol.1 1995

The Punk Collectors Series by Anagram Records started in 1989 and ran until mid-2005 and were released only on CD, but considering what's packed on it, this format fits perfect in this case. The idea behind was to immortalize old out of print Punkrock 7Inches/Goodies onto one compilation, be it per band, be it per label, in both cases great pieces were pressed and I'm a big fan of this series. A few are already on the blog and more will follow. From the Rarities volumes exist only two outputs, but these have a lot to offer and are dedicated to bands that didn't get much attention and released only one or two singles on small labels during their active time. Many of you, myself included, hardly had a chance to get hold of the originals because they weren't distributed professionally, had small editions, were sold by the bands themselves and were therefore hardly known across borders, real D.I.Y. spirit you know and that's totally okay. And that's why it is important that labels use their possibilities to dig out such Nuggets, so that we, who are interested, can enjoy these forgotten bursts of creative innovation today, or simply: excellent stuff!

1.On Me - THE BEARS
2.Modern Politics - THE PANIK
3.Urban Damnation - THE PANIK
4.Murder - THE PANIK
5.Office Girl - THE STOAT
6.Little Jenny - THE STOAT
7.Crazy Paving - BILLY KARLOFF BAND
8.Back Street Billy - BILLY KARLOFF BAND
9.I'm Different - EMBRYO
10.You Know He Did - EMBRYO
11.Here Comes The Night - THE RIVALS
12.Both Sides - THE RIVALS
13.Sounds So False - MURDER INC.
14.Polythene Dream - MURDER INC.
15.Nobody Cares - MURDER INC.

V/A - Bored Teenagers Vol.7 2014

Once again an infernal bang from the Bored Teenagers series with twenty-eight Great British Punk Originals 1977-1982 and who exactly ignites the explosions follows now:

"This volume kicks off with THE SINGLES who were from the Rochdale area and released one of the rarest UK Punk 45s back in 1978 with the controversial title of ‘Adolf Hitler. The song is about a German soldier who is the trenches and questions his belief and why he is here! The next two tracks are by IN THE GYM with two tracks taken from the incredible rare single from 1981. This band hailed from Kidderminster and this was their one and only 7Inch. Following on with the KATZ from Swindon with two tracks taken of their extremely rare 7Inch from ‘79, plus six unreleased tracks on the CD version. Next band to grace your speakers are from our very own Capital CHAOS UK with two super snotty punksters. This was the bands one and only 7Inch release before re-surfacing as the Mandies. Our next stop is Birmingham with two ultra rare absolute gems from THE HOBBS. Collectors around with world will be familiar with this band as they release Bop Around The Shop on the ‘Big’ label in 1978 but did you know that they had an aborted single that they recorded a year earlier for the ‘DJM’ label? Sadly these tracks never came out as the band were dropped in favour to the Satan Rats’. You are gonna be in for a treat with these two blasts….. Now comes THE WHAT?, hailing from South Humberside who released a killer little 3-Track EP in 1979 that includes the anthem East Coast Kids! Now we are heading all the way down to Cornwall to THE VENDETTAS, who trod all the Cornish music haunts throughout 1977 and called it a day in 1978.... great rough stuff that will stick in yer head and you’ll find you're self singing the lyrics without knowing it! The next two tracks that come blaring at you are from our front cover stars SKIDMARX. Hailing from Carlisle and relocating to South London and then Brighton. The last band to be featured are SYSTEM X from Enfield in North London. In their lifetime they offer no vinyl output but did record five tracks, all can be heard in their full glory on the CD version."

That reads brilliantly, doesn't it ...? Now it's your turn!

V/A - Flicknife Records Punk Collection 1995

Let's move on to another compilation from the Punk Collectors Series from Anagram Records and this Volume is full with cool stuff. In addition to well-known bands, there are a few others represented here that put little on vinyl, but that makes this series so interesting. Flicknife Records started in October 1980 by Frenchy and Gina and the first release was the Mystere Fives No Message 7Inch in 1980 and the label is still active and holds on to the attitudes and beliefs that spurred Frenchy to start it. On this CD are the first songs from singles gathered that gave their best in the early days. Absolutely brilliant material and in two hours the SGE will follow versus Marseille, hope they win!

1.Shake Some Action - THE MYSTERE FIVES

THE LURKERS - Beggars Banquet 7Inch Collection 1997

Old acquaintances and always welcome guests in my theater and this is an excellent Compilation which features eighteen tracks by the Lurkers' early classic Singles, compiled by Anagram Records for their Punk Collectors Series, one of the best around this planet in my opinion. The Lurkers released a lot of 7Inches, and all A and B sides are immortalized here, I don't have to go into more detail to make this material appetizing for you because I think many of you have one or two records and you know exactly how hot the band is. This CD exudes energy and pure catchiness and the gents have been active since 1976, including some long breaks, and I think, it's time for another tour. So dear ones, now I'm going to do a little housework, and maybe I'll come back with more cool stuff. Stay tuned!

- Great Thx to Nolti -

V/A - Killed By Death #19 1998

700 pressed on black vinyl with plain white labels in a nice foldout sleeve. Shit! Another volume of Killed By Death!!!! Don't worry man, this is the ultimate and greatest of this stupid series. This one contains tons of rare and marvellous examples of American punkrock between '79-'80 (except the K-Tels were from Canada). Several of the records included here would quite likely give collectors their greatest sexual experience were they to actually get their hands on them. You get to hear one track from the Jackie Shark & The Beach Butchers 7", almost completely unknown until very recently. There is also a track from the Noise 7", one of the top 10 over-rated punk records of all time. As is usual with obscure American punk records many of these are good, worth listening to a few times a year, but would you be stupid enough to pay hundreds of dollars for them?

1.2nd Generation Rising - JACKIE SHARK & THE BEACH BUTCHERS
2.I Want Sex - REACTORS
3.Seduction Center - REACTORS
4.Out In The Street - EXIT
5.TV Violence - KILLER BEES
6.Just Like Dresden '45 - N.Y. NIGGERS
7.Kill It - THE PANICS
8.Teenage Lifestyle - PENETRATORS
9.Let's Have Some Fun Tonight - NOISE
10.Kind Of A Drag - BRAIN POLICE
11.Kill Hirb Cane - CARPETS
12.Zombie Lover - THE INSULTS
13.8th Avenue - ELECTROFLEX
14.Underground - EPICYCLE
15.Resistance - EXECUTIVES
16.Where Are You? - K-TELS

ME 110-D - s/t EP 1982

Rare five track EP on Soilant by this Swiss piece: ME 110-D from Uster and the band consisted of Alex (vocals), Thommen (guitars), Jenni (bass), Häse (drums). Not much info about the boys is documented, only some sources say their band name stands for the Messerschmitt Bf 110 D series, other mean it stands for Melody (I think, the first makes more sense). Anyway, fact is this record is a damn good punk record and the first pressing (also known as Bullenlied EP) came in a double picture sleeve and only a few copies exist and getting one of this blue mauritius is like finding the holy grail. I guess the second edition is just as rare and possibly 500 copies were pressed. Well, the rarity collectors among you probably know it better. I am surprised that they are not featured on any of the relevant compilations, and you know which one I mean. Nun, that makes the four even more interesting and maybe some Nick Knatterton will changed this in the near future, right?

A.B.H. - Don't Mess With The SAS EP 2017

Last post today brings us old classics back in revised new versions, and this is called "Oi! The Collectors Series" from Evil Records. The serie is running since 2015 and most of them are limited editions, this EP (EVIL 018) has been pressed 350 times. A.B.H. is a band from Lowestoft/Suffolk  and were formed early 1981 by Pete (vocals), Steve (guitar), Nigel (bass), Tony (drums) and in their active lifespan, you can discover them only on compilations, apart from their demo tape in 1984. Captain Oi! released in 1998 a split CD, togehter with Subculture, with a few recordings and that's it. Here are four acceptable Oi!/Punk pieces from the good old days.... see you tomorrow.

- Great Thx to Fredrik -
