V/A - Killed By Death British D.I.Y. - Vol.1 1998

I think it's the last KBD Compilation that's missing here and this slab isn't that bad as the title suggests. From Lo-Fi to decent songs, the range is amazingly diverse and anyone who likes things a bit easier will get their money's worth with this cutie. Liner Notes: "Hello & welcome to the newest installment of Killed By Death series. There is now so many, who knows for all of them? So we start over with #1 in an offshoot to pay tribute to all great British D.I.Y. bands from the late 70's & early 80's. Sure everyone to have recordings by SWELL MAPS & TVP'S, but how about the SODS & all the rest of most excellent sounds on this record? We start off with LONDON PX & their classic handclap singalong 'Orders' from '81. Next are two cuts from the fantastic EP 'Deadbeat Revival' by HORNSEY AT WAR which came out in 1979. The PETTICOATS do 'Normal', then it's the MUD HUTTERS with 'Water Torture' off their spazzed out 1979 EP, 'The Declaration'. My mother says they are to sound like Punk version of legendary Stardust cowboy. It's true! PURITAN GUITARS '£100 In 15 Minutes' from their 1980 handstamped Riverside label. The DISCO ZOMBIES did three 45ers I know of, all are to kill for. 'Drums Over London" was the 2nd one I found & was in amazing silscreened wraparound sleeve. The SODS end side one with their organ driven classic 'No Pictures' from 1979 on Stortbeat. FUN 4 were Scottish & drummer Steven Daly later was to be in Orange Juice. Why is this record dedicated to Simon Weisenthal. To much! Another Stortbeat band SPELLING MISSTEAKS follow with 'Popstar'. Do not confuse them w/New Zealand band of the same name. ONE GANG LOGIC ask the question 'Who Killed Sex'? It wasn't me. Maybe you? The ATOMS do the great & goofy 'Beatlejacket'. The wirdo sounds of 012 are next w/'Fish From Tahiti' which is on the Weird Noise comp on Fuck Off Records. SHOES THIS HIGH were from New Zealand not England but they were great. 'The Nose One' is the best from their rare EP. Were they British, they would have made many records for Step Forward. It's true! Now go out, buy fish & chips & bottles of lager & crank this the fuck up. It's great! Thanks to Spider for all help."  That should be enough to make the vinyl interesting and a second part is possible in the foreseeable future, maybe.

1.Orders - LONDON PX
2.Hornsey At War - HORNSEY AT WAR
3.U.C.2. Much 4 Me - HORNSEY AT WAR
4.Normal - PETTICOATS
5.Water Torture - MUD HUTTERS

NASTY MEDIA - Spiked Copy EP 1978

Obscure combo from Leeds which release one 7Inch via Lightning Records and they were active from 1977-1979 and it's not surprising that their single has disappered into insignificance because all four songs have the same monotonous rhythm, stomp through without much fuss and sound the same, unspectacular fits perfect here. But it's okay and one song even made it onto the Killed By Death #007 Compilation. About line-up or anything else I have no further infos, but one thing is sure, in a few hours and after more than three years of abstinence, I'm back in the stadium and enjoying the DFB Cup match between the SGE versus Darmstadt, that's going to be hot.... you can also watch it live on TV.

THE SOUND - Physical World EP 1979

Debut EP on Tortch Records by The SoundA renowned combo which were formed in South London 1979 from the remnants of the Punk band the Outsiders. The original line-up consisted of Adrian Borland (vocals/guitar) and Graham Bailey (bass), both ex-Outsiders, along with Mike Dudley (drums) and woodwinds player Bi Marshall. While not a member, ex-Outsider Adrian Janes would contribute ideas and co-write lyrics to the Sound's music. Borland and Bailey also made up the band Second Layer, formed around the same time as the Sound. This little info is enough, there is a lot to read about this great combo and they were even acknowledged on the Killed By Death #24 compilation and eight albums prove their creativity and make them one of the most important Post-Punk bands I would say. Before I can continue here today, I have to do a lot of fucking things that cannot be postponed and that take up valuable time.

V/A - Electrocute Your Cock! Vol.1 2021

It's finally starting today, the 2022 World Cup, and I'm a little happy because I'm a big fan of this ball sport, even if it's going to be the most controversial. On the other hand, the following compilation, which you can now enjoy, is not controversial and there is a suitable description for it that sums it all up. "Taking its title from the legendary brainless anthem by Vom, it's not hard to imagine the contents of this compilation. On offer are eighteen tracks of pure, untamed, moronic, KBD-style-Punk in all its glorious rawness. Focusing mainly on the US - but also presenting bands from the UK, Denmark and the Philippines - and spanning the period between 1977 and 1984, this is an absolute must for all Killed By Death enthusiasts. Punkrock done the way it was meant to, shameless, raw and annoying. You know you need it!" That's the way it is folks, maybe there will be a second Volume coming and until then enjoy the frosty sunday with hot lost nuggets.

THE VORES - Love Canal EP 1978

Juhuuu, Feiertag today and finally being myself and this feels so perfect. What's for breakfast today? The Vores from Buffalo/New York recorded two 7Inches on Family Only and this is their first one. The line-up consisted of Biff (vocals/guitar), Dave (guitar/vocals), Gary (bass), Mike (drums) and four pieces we have on this little sucker. Forming in the late 70s they came from the Punk/NewWave and apart from being included on various compilations documenting that era in US punk/music from New York at that time, they have generally been neglected. This is apparently due to the few really interesting labels of the time and therefore no entry ticket was available. But the slab is acceptable to me and it's not for nothing that the detectives invited them to the catchy series called Killed By Death and Bloodstains. Schee!

V/A - Killed By Death #666 1998

Last post in 2021 and the conclusion on wdthtc I want to end with a another great collection of early and unusual European, North American and Australian Punk rarities! Nice job once again have the detectives done and including some relatively unknown obscurities to make those Killed By Death only collectors scurry a little more. There are a few "arty" tracks thrown in here that fits the album right in. A decidedly tasteful international flavor here of some of the most fucked music ever made. Sharpen your silly little pencils cause what's left you're gonna have to add to your want list. So rare you gotta wonder if they were ever made! Overall this is a fuckin' great record, especially this late in the compilation game, worth listening to a few times a year. A total of Nineteen rare nuggets, for you, for me. Take care of yourself and I wish you all a happy fuckin' new year!

THE COSMETICS - s/t 10'' + Demo 1979 [2019]

The Cosmetics were a five piece from San Francisco, founded in 1979 by Terri (vocals), Jimmy (vocals/guitar), Cliff (guitar), David (bass) & Jane (drums) and they began to start playing alot of gigs in the Bay Area, mostly as opener for well-known like Black Flag or Agent Orange (which I would have liked to experience). In 1980 they released their only record via Doolang Records with five high energy harsh tracks for your sensitive ears. This classic was reissued with their 1979 Demo recordings, which didn't make it onto the record, by PukeNVomit Records, 100 copies in blue, 400 in black vinyl. Their music shine with the excellent two part female-male vocal harmony & interchanges and has a real hit with "Twinkie Madness", who has a guest appearance on the fantastic Killed By Death #8½ compilation, one of their rare compi invitations. Great Stuff!!

- Great Thx to Fredrik -

V/A - No One Left To Blame 2001

Another remarkable compilation that I ripped years ago and somehow almost disappeared is the following one and I can promise you: Great record! and a certain gentleman reviews the slab so: "This arrived from a mystery man in the same package as the more recent Staring Down The Barrel, and until Terminal Boredom’s recent article from a guy whom I believe to be the same mystery man, I thought these were both brand new, 2005 releases. As it turns out, “NO ONE LEFT TO BLAME” came out a couple years ago, and it comprised the punk 45rpm scrapings of two obsessive collectors who decided to give it one last anonymous-comp whirl, subsequently stretched into two last whirls. I like that these rabid accumulators and filtration agents were able to officially confirm for me again that once the Killed By Death and Bloodstains comp avalanche stopped, there really weren't that many choice punk 45s lef to unearth. For this one, they found some sizzlers for sure, such as the fantastic dullard stomp of Worcester, COMMANDOS and "Suburb Rock". This is the sort of dum-and-stupid two-chord classic that later trash punk bands like the SUICIDE KINGS cut their inglorious teeth on, and I love that the Commandos' ageless singer simultaneously sounds both constipated and totally loaded. You also can't lose with the tasteful "Dogshit" by ANTLER JOE & THE ACCIDENTS, nor with a great test-pressing only track from the BERLIN BRATS (here called just the BRATS) called "Psychotic".

Oh, and you reckoned "Give 'Em A Fight" from Buffalo's WRECK'N CREW would be some dumb-ass oi garbage? No way hoss, it's a '77 style screamer, from a guy named "Oil Can" or something who later moved to Chicago to form THE EFFIGIES. It's a solid, high 3rd-tier punk compilation all around, featuring stuff insanely limited and available either for fifty cents (thrift store in Lincoln, NE) or $500 (eBay) -- or whatever it takes to secure the twenty tracks here in one convenient 12" package." (Jay H. agonyshorthand)

Now enjoy this damn great compilation of twenty U.S. punk unknowns 1976-1982.

1.Guns On The Right - DV8
2.USANRK - ART OBJECT
3.Prosecution Rests - THE PROSECUTORS
4.I Don't Want Romance - MANIKENZ
5.Dogshit - ANTLER JOE & THE ACCIDENTS
6.Psychotic - BRATS
7.Suburb Rock - COMMANDOS
8.Victims Of Society - VICTIMS
9.Mary Lou - JACKIE SHARK & THE BEACH BUTCHERS

THE REACTORS - World War Four 1980

"Inland Empire's first ever punk rock band "The Reactors," formed in 1978, from the urban city of San Bernardino, California. They played their own brand of fast, raw, and desperate punk rock in the unlikely urban city from where they were from. The Reactors existed from 1978 until 1982. During that time they released their Meltdown EP and their World War 4 album on their own Nuclear Waste Records label; which included doing their own photos, artwork, layouts and production, etc. The Reactors lasted through several line-ups. The first Reactors before the 7" EP were Mike Rodriguez, bass; Al Zenno, guitar; Brad Uhl, drums; and Elizabeth "Dash" Frost, vocals. For the EP, the line-up changed when drummer Brad left the band and was replaced by "Throbbin" Rob Vasquez. In early 1980, Al Zenno left the group. For the album the remaining members recruited guitarist Tony Brammel, who eventually went on to form the Sins and later the soul-rock alternative band, the Bell-Rays. The last edition of the Reactors consisted of a three piece: Dash on guitar, Mike on bass and any durmmer they could find. The Reactors shared bills with many great bands of the time. Recently, their records have garnered much attention from the ranks of Killed By Death punk collectors. Back in the day, their Meltdown EP was released in a rare pressing of 300 copies with two known cover variations which has now become a collector's item of sorts. Their WW4 record is almost becoming scarce too." (source: Nuclear Waste Records)

AKUT SKJUT - Leva I Smyg 7'' 1984

In Karlskrona started 1980 this awesome band called Akut Skjut (their name means something like "can't wait to fuck your brains out") and the band consisted of Markus (vocals), Stefan & Mats (guitars), Nicklas (bass), Per (drums) and during their six years of existance they played a lot in southern Sweden. This 7Inch is their only release, handcrafted in small editions, and it contains two motherfuckin' numbers which burns hotter than hell ever can be. Rough and dirty guitars mixed with a hard melodic tempo and again this pretty cool swedish language. Fantastic!! - These two burners belong on every sophisticated Killed By Death compilation, but weren't discovered for this. The band broke up in 1986. In 2003 there was a reunion gig. That's all folks - listen!

FLACKOFF - The Flackoff EP 1980

The rooster crows at an early hour and its wake-up call alarms and urges you to get the following awesome slab by this four piece from Leamington Spa on Sofa Records, and this is the only vinyl release by Flackoff with great female vocals and the band consisted of Claire (vocals), Arthur (guitars), Rod (bass), Rick (drums) and this infectious energetic catchy three song goodie is one of those great local one-off EPs that would get a spin on John Peel back in the day, brimming with an endearing and infectious energy that characterized the era. Re-released 2018 by Inflammable Material/Sofa Records in a limited edition of 300 copies and I don't think it's easy to get hold of one of them today. No wonder, three mercilessly brilliant songs who made it onto the essential Killed By Death #007 compilation. Top record of a short-lived combo that definitely had what it takes for more.

THE BRAINIACS - Untitled EP 1979

Four piece from Los Angeles with their yellow debut EP on Mental Health Records and the Brainiacs were Wayzata (vocals & guitar), Scot (guitar & bass), John (bass & guitar), John (drums) and they released in their short lifespan two decent 7Inches and already at the beginning of the Eighties they separated. Not much to report from the guys, except that they belt out four catchy, entertaining songs, and their second single is also a little musical highlight (listen). Less represented on compilations, mostly on unofficial ones, one of them the world-famous Killed By Death #15½ record which is available in yellow vinyl as well. Ferddisch!

DER STAB - Tracers 7'' 2016

And another re-release and with this bright sunlight I ring in the weekend. Here too, some infos from the supplement: "A little about der Stab, the recording lineup was Keith (vocals), Rikk (guitars), Frank (bass), Randy (drums). So after the death of recording Engineer Chaz Ramirez, the tape were lost and appeared for the first time on the essential Killed By Death #13 record. The band played lots of venues and several gigs in the Orange and LA county areas. After the split of der Stab the members continued their musical creativity in other bands (Christian Death, Primal Danse, Mirror Image)." This 7Inch was released via Elective Affinities/Negative Jazz in an edition of 600 copies. Two rampant lost nuggets!

VAINS - You May Not Believe In Vains But You Cannot Deny Terror EP 1980

First, all requested re-ups are done and after scouring my hard drive again, I keep coming across hidden treasures and I think I won't be able to listen to all of them in this life, unless I reach retirement age and sit on the beach near my holiday home in Cyprus, but it's not that far yet. But one of them is rolling now in. The debut record by the Vains from Seatlle on No Threes Records, formed by Criss (vocals/guitars), Nico (bass), Andy (drums) in the late seventies. This record was pressed in an edition of 1000 copies and offers three untamed fantastic killers. The detectives have also immortalized all three songs on various Killed By Death compilations. What more punk heart do you want?

V/A - Powerpearls Vol.3 1998

Uhh, damn exciting match yesterday at noon with a well-deserved victory for the SGE, the Champions-League is within reach. Now to the announced killer. In the nineties a wave swam over us with unofficial compilations that came up with rare punk classics of the early wild days, the well-known and certainly the best of them are the Killed By Death and Bloodstains series. But there is another interesting third: the Powerpearls series. Just as brilliant and significant contribute to resurrecting lost 7Inch nuggets and getting in touch with bands that nobody or only a few know these days, and whose music kicking just as much as the snotty punk buddies. My focus was more on the first two's and I didn't even know PowerPop that time, but now I like this genre, makes me feel positive and radiant, and it's close rooted with punk and sounds charming and lovely either. There are ten Volumes of these available, most at expensive prices, some with colored vinyl. So keep an eye out for them, it's definitely worth.

1.Bank Holiday Weekend - SEVENTEEN

V/A - Kiwi By Death (NZ Punk Rarities 1977-1983) 2010

Hello March and we stay in Oceania and come to new old stuff from an pseudo "label" which made limited CD-R compilations in very small editions (mostly 50 copies & with a small but useful booklet) with rare Punk classics worldwide. As you can easily see, this edition is dedicated to the musical orgasms of New Zealand, and most of the songs are almost all represented on other relevant compis and you can ask, who needs that? I would say why not. Since most of the slabs are no longer accessible (as a side note, many records are offline, at least in my blog) and the selcetion is different as well and I can promise you, this one is high explosive! I like the music from there and the scene was pretty broad with good bands and I recommend you visit audioculture for more infos about New Zealand's subculture.

DE VENERIAS - Monarki 7'' 2016

Today we visit Stockholm first, I think the following band came from there, at least both songs of this fantastic 7Inch were recorded there back in 1979. De Venerias consisted of Johnny (vocals), Leif (guitar), Claes (bass) and Peter (drums). Allow me to give you some infos from my favorite punksite swedishpunkfanzine here because, a) comes from the country, b) excellent archive and always worth a visit, c) all infos about this record in a nutshell, d) why write everything twice. "This is the Holy Grail!!!! The band could not afford to make a 7Inch release. However – they made sure that a test press was made as payment was not expected until the real records were presses. Quite smart, quite punk. Of the four testpresses one is for sure damaged when one of the members became Hare Krishna. Two records are with collectors and the last one… no one knows. 'Monarki' was on the Killed By Death #51 compilation. The rumor is that the B-side is even greater than the A-side but the owners are keeping the secret how the song sounds for themselves." Well, now you can find out for yourselfs because this rare sucker was re-released of course by Slyngel Rekordsthe label for rare lost Swedish Punk Nuggets, in an edition of 300 copies on yellow vinyl. And if the words haven't convinced you yet, move your fat ass to bandcamp and turn to maximum volume and kill yourself.

VICTIM - The Teen Age EP 1980

Third and final 7Inch from Victim on Illuminated Records with three crackers. The band was founded mid 1977 in Belfast (relocated to Manchester in 1979) and soon they became familiar faces on the fast-emerging Belfast punk scene. On this record, produced by Rat Scabies, Wesley (vocals & bass), Joe (guitars) and Jeff (drums). Started as four piece they released two EP's in the late seventies. They toured a lot with renowned bands and a fourth single plus further demos were recorded but unfortunately never released and little of it is left and after undergoing several line-up changes, the band existed until 1990. But hope came when in 2003 Overground Records released a compilation of all of their early works and 2016 two more CD's came out with new and revised material of the late phase. Also guest on Bloodstains and Killed By Death #33. Great Stuff.

V/A - Killed By Death #13 1993

Happy New Year all together and I don't understand why the link to The Face doesn't work, but try again folks, link's fixed, thx Reinhard. And now enjoy another KBD compilation, # 13 and all tracks are recorded between 1978 and 1983. From liner notes on the back: "This volume of Killed By Death differs from the others in a few ways. It concentrates on just one region, California. And instead of containing previously released rare records, this one is culled from demo tapes, mostly from bands that never had any releases." I hope, that this link works and no more damn problems arise, otherwise I will lose the fun of this hobby.

V/A - Bloodstains Across The World #5 2019

Early hour on this Friday, I pack another Bloodstains compilation out with more rare early sounds from all over the world, and Volume 3 is once again as CD-R in vinyl look released and by the same detectives, I think. Half of the twenty songs are known to me and are always welcome, while the 'new' material is sometimes questionable and I personally would have made a different selection. But with so many unknown bands/songs I'm always amazed where music was made with sometimes first-class nuggets. And I don't hesitate long, as soon as a new release of this brilliant series is available. It's a shame that Killed By Death doesn't go any further. Maybe there comes one more hype like in the 90s, who knows. 100 copies exist and watch out for #6 next year. Have fun discovering new musical highlights!
