BOXHAMSTERS - Hardcore EP 2010

Established German punk band from Gießen, let's welcome the Boxhamsters, founded in 1987 and still active today. The band released numerous awesome records and each album is truly a masterpiece. The band's name is from a Monty Python sketch called "Upper Class Twit of the Year" in which, German translation, Mister Boxhamster wins a fool competition of the high society. According to Singer Co. this EP was created by the Boxhamsters fans in Taiwan and included five fast songs from the years 1991 to 1996 and appeared in 2010 on the Japanese label Formosa Punk Records/Taiwan in a limited edition of 500 copies. A real collector's item also and a brilliant record, a blast with one smasher after the other. So you can imagine how great they are live. Don't miss their debut Bullerbü album. The Boxhamsters are still one of my favourite German punk bands.

BOXHAMSTERS - Wir Kinder Aus Bullerbü 1988

Stayin' still in the 80s and travel to 1988. 1988 was a good year, I quit my job, my girlfriend was cheating me, I bought the third EA80 record and met the Boxhamsters. An album that accompanied me since its appearance, the debut record from the Boxis, released 1988 on the band's own label Bad Moon Records. No idea why but for some time this record always buzzing around in my head, so I search for it and ripped it now. And while listening to all the wonderful memories come back, the gig here in KOZ, the wild ride to the Oettinger Villa in Darmstadt, where they played with EA80 and I remember I was sittin' in the backstage room and eat all the delicious salmon sandwiches and talked with the Mönchengladbach guys. Oh yes, those were the good times! Today I'm no longer very mobile because I have a job who calls me and my driving license is in Flensburg on vacation. But back to the album. With their debut, the Boxhamsters have delivered a masterpiece of German punk rock, at that time D-punk was somehow asleep and there was not much new or interesting. With their schrammel bumpy sound and brilliant personel lyrics, which are far from heroic or flat, they managed the leap to the forefront and most of the songs still belong in their live repertoire. No wonder why, songs like "In Dieser Zeit", "Verwirrt", "WoStehtDieUhr" plus the instrumental "Calzone Und Seine Killer" still sound fresh and not antiquated. - In 1991, singer Co, Drummer Ulf and Junge from EA80 formed the side project Die Böse Hand and they released several singles with mostly cover versions and a CD with all previous publications (coming soon). So enjoy this great album with twelve (+ the bonus CD track) punk goodies from Gießen's finest.

BOXHAMSTERS - No Room 7'' 1991

This is the first record from the Boxhamsters with a cover version (original by Athletico Spizz 80 from their 1980 single on Rough Trade) which was recorded during the Tötensen session and more singles with classics followed. The four did a pretty good job, fat and schrammeliger sound and the violin at the beginning was replaced with a soft guitar and the rest fits too. The flip has, I believe an outtake, of Herzblut, which is immortalized on Bullerbü. Present musicians were here: Co (vocals/guitar), Philipp (bass), Weilo (vocals/guitar) and Ulf (drums) and this Bad Moon keeps you warm until work calls.

BOXHAMSTERS - Der Göttliche Imperator 1990

Before I dedicate myself to today's SGE match against Augsburg, I present you, for me an essential D-Punk slab, the second album by the Boxhamsters from Gießen which is a real killer. Released on their own label Bad Moon Records and with Junge as producer, he raised their sound a lot. Was Wie Kinder Aus Bullerbü very simple recorded, this album has the right power, which is more reminiscent of a pop album, but far from it. Splendid produced and excellent mixed, the twelve songs come in a powerful dress of dynamic and refreshing energy. On this album all of their countless hits are represented with which they overwhelmed the fans and it's superfluous to enumerate them all now. Experienced the Boxis many times alive and they never disappointed me and they remain in very good memories. Der Göttliche Imperator is peppered with famous film quotes that are appropriately integrated and perfect inserted, which pushes the record to a real masterpiece. That's it for today, tomorrow is another day.

BOXHAMSTERS - Tötensen 1991

Tötensen is the third album by Boxhamsters from near Gießen and features twelve brilliant, mostly short tracks, with fantastic lyrics, exactly what makes this four piece special. For me a very important band, that has accompanied me since the beginning of my Punker existence and whose music has become an essential part of it. No dull anarchy & beer songs (which have to be), but creative irony, clear words and hopeful, desperate love songs are part of the boys' repertoire and spiced up with fine ingredients that makes a delicious menu unforgettable. Der Göttliche Imperator was already ultrafat and powerful produced and this album was also mixed by the same people and could be a seamless sequel. Of course, released on the band's own Bad Moon label, this fine record was the next building block in the Boxis considerable discography. Catchy, mischievous... TOP!

V/A - Life Is Change Vol.2 1991

Late on this Sunday and my last post is another international punk compilation which is for me one of the better publication on BeriBeri Records with the philosophical title "Life Is Change ". And indeed, current to me and that is reason enough to post the album now. The band/song selection is quite excellent and most songs are not published elsewhere (EA80, Spermbirds, Vagrants, Gruschenko...). Lyrically very emotinal which is probably due to the title of this compilation and all eleven bands prove this splendid. Also the artwork is more mature than Vol.1 and the EA80 track is one of my favorite songs. Also awesome both Vagrants songs which kill slowly my heart and I never heard before a band that transfer such emotional intensity with depth. I wish there were more bands like them. Wonderful!! Highly recommend album and you should buy a copy if you have the chance.

1.Thank You - GRUSCHENKO
2.Let Bygones Be Bygones - GRUSCHENKO
3.Der Vierte Tag - EA80
4.Little Garlic Fish - PULLERMANN
5.Keep It Out - PULLERMANN
6.Just A Moment - SPERMBIRDS
7.Out There - SOFAHEAD
8.My Mummy Hurt My Head - SOFAHEAD
9.On Trial - LIFE BUT HOW TO LIVE IT!
10.Schleichfahrt - BOXHAMSTERS
11.Gemacht - BOXHAMSTERS
12.Used - VAGRANTS
13.Salvation Street - VAGRANTS
14.This Wooden Cross - DARK AGE

MUFF POTTER - Bordsteinkantengeschichten 2000

Back in 1993 anyone gave me the demo tape "Bambule - Kleine Geschichten" from this German punk band from Rheine and meantime I've lost it. But I was pleased with their music and I bought their records. Muff Potter describe their style of music as Angry Pop Music, influenced by English and American Indie-/Punkrock like Hüsker Dü, Wipers, Leatherface, but also of German bands like Slime, ...But Alive, Boxhamsters or EA80. In their early days they played Punkrock with profound lyrics without striking or strongly politically phrases. That's what I like, direct in your face!!!! Was the sound during their first records a bit scrapy the band gets with every album musically better & better and in my opinion their first three albums are still angry, desperate, honest, snotty and simply delicate. And by listen to the fourth, I suddenly lost my interest, something had gone, I don't know what but I never come in with the new stuff. You probably know that? Kinda like cycling without a saddle, beer without alcohol, a pale facade... Anyhow, Bordsteinkantengeschichten was finally out and I was eager and it's their best record to date. I remember how often the platte runs up and down, every fuckin' time. They recorded a lot songs for this album and two songs doesn't find a place on the album and were released as 7inch, called the Potthoff EP, spiced up with a witty outro. Both released on the bands own label Huck's Plattenkiste. Every song is great; my favourites are 'Take A Run At The Sun', 'Das Siegerlied', 'Unkaputtbar' and 'An Der Bordsteinkante'. If you have a wire to the bands mentioned above then you must listen to Muff Potter. Salut!!!

...BUT ALIVE - Für Uns Nicht 1993

Welcome 2022 and the first post belongs to a band that I appreciate very much and whose music is one of the best of the nineties and thus gave an important part of the lame movement of that time new input. Krawehl, Krawehl was their first demo from 1991 (connoisseurs know immediately who gave this words), and it soon attracted the interest of the Hamburg label Weird System, which finally signed the band. - The quartet But Alive was one of the most influential German punk bands until 1999 and were, alongside Wizo, Boxhamsters and Dackelblut, at the forefront of German punk movement for four records and seven years. Actually started as a small fun band, the political claim developed more and more as a permanent trademark of the group. Spurred on by German formations such as EA80 and, above all, Slime, But Alive quickly became one of the biggest mouthpieces of the intellectual punk scene. Because of their left-radical and highly political lyrics, ...But Alive should not be equated with the blunt slogans of the "Mob & Gesocks" punks. Their message is hidden in demanding lyrics, which often wrong interpreted (also from punks itself). After a few bass players, there is finally the line-up around Marcus (vocals/guitars), Hagen (guitars), Torben (bass), Frank (drums). They made four very good albums, of which more will appear soon in this theatre. Für Uns Nicht is a great debut, arranged sharply and fluently and with lyrics that get to the point, they spoke out what is wrong in this world and that fourteen times. The first 500 copies in blue vinyl, my copy. Enough useless words, nobody cares anyway, enjoy the music and look forward to an interesting new music year.

BLUMEN AM ARSCH DER HÖLLE - s/t LP 1992

Blumen Am Arsch Der Hölle was a punk band from Hamburg, which existed from 1991 to 1994. The original lineup consisted of Jens Rachut (vocals), Andrew Ness (guitar), Knoop (bass) and Mark Wills (drums) and was the sequel of Angeschissen and Das Moor. Later band members Björn (bass), who later founded the combo Motormuschi and Martin (guitar) from the Kiel Band Go Ahead. Blumen am Arsch der Hölle went on and re-named in Dackelblut, Oma Hans and Kommando Sonne-nmilch. Through countless concerts and would not last through a strict commitment to the band for the preservation of the vinyl ("Death Of Shit! Death Of The CD!"), they quickly earned a great Fanbase. Songs like "z.B. L'Age Poly'Dor", "† 15.7.1991" or "Stumph" are quasi the character, the figurehead and still brilliant. Words beyond all the clichés, music that is both rough and warm and so far removed from German punk as just conceivable - and still has German lyrics and is pure punkrock. By the way; they adored the song "1976" by the Boxhamsters and covered this respectable and it's the ultimate statement about punk.

The band released only one full-length in 1992 on Buback Tonträger. A cover version of Blondies song "Picture This" was performed with Snuff singer Duncan and Shaun of Wat Tyler. In 1994 the group broke up after founding member Marc Wills announced them to leave, Dackelblut was born and the madness went into the third round. A re-release of the debut came in 2000 which was remastered by Frank Stubbs (Leatherface) and engineer Tom Meyer and includes a 20-second bonus track as a tribute to the deceased founding member Marc Wills. To celebrate the re-release the band played with Kurt drummer Armin Nagel three exclusive concerts.

EINLEBEN - Bunt 1996

Continue with one of my favorite bands, these guys from Wasserberg, the band has been named after a EA80 song and they have lots of gigs played together. I had the good fortune to visit some of these fantastic concerts and got to know the members itself. Very sympathetic contemporaries. Einleben exists from 1994 - 2002 and played german punk with challenging lyrics and of course some resemblance to the Boxhamsters and EA80. Ballads are such much in their repertoire as fast aggressive punk pieces and it is this mix that makes their sound unique. Far from the current scrap. For those of you who don't know Einleben begin here with their brilliant first album and discover all their other releases. TIP!

DIE BÖSE HAND - Blumen 7'' 1993

Now to a band where I didn't have to think long and hard about whether I should buy their records or not, NO!... that was compulsory and couldn't go wrong. We're talking about Die Böse Hand and this three piece was a side project featuring the voice of EA80 Junge, drummer Ulf and the voice/guitar of Martin, both from the Boxhamsters. Both singers also play guitar/bass on the recordings. The band seems to exist only temporarily again from time to time and five 7Inches were released from 1990 to 1996 and mostly cover versions of world hits were recorded in their own style. 'Blumen' is their third single and it's the short version of the awesome Ranola track (a fucking must listen if you don't know this slab) and it's a single-sided record, the B-sides are featuring hand drawn designs that are unique to each copy like little flowers or even season greetings ("Christmas 2003"). Limited copies were painted by the mother of band member Co. All songs were released on one CD via Bad Moon/Musikzimmer in 2004 and I haven't forgotten, this one will follow.
