While my laundry is in the laundry room, I use the time to put this fantastic compilation on air. Mini-serie on Raw Sounds of four albums with rare UK powerpop/punk 7Inches, unfortunately without info sheet or anything else. No matter, sixteen pleasant songs that brighten the gray fucking November a bit and shoot me in a good mood. On this record is something for everyone I think. Also Volume 1 is still active if you can't get enough of this stuff.

V/A - Bloodstains Across The World #4 2019

The coldest month in this country knocks and to leave it outside, we heat up the first day with more rarities of the glory years 1977-1985 from across the world. Successful selection again, but it's a shame that the presentation is very sparse. Of course, the lack of money is responsible, but always using the same artwork and just changing the titles is not particularly creative. This could be better as well with little resources in my opinion. Well, I don't wanna complain, but criticizing is allowed. Meanwhile there are #5 and #6 out and will surely follow this year. We can be curious how long the world will continue to supply us with material. Enjoy!

THE PSYCHOTIC YOUTH - Julie 7'' 1989

Punk'N'Roll of the finest by an already long-lived band that I wasn't even aware of. A short story to get to know: Psychotic Youth was formed 1985 in a small town called Kramfors by singer, songwriter & guitarist Jörgen under the name Ratfink-A-Boo Boo's. The other original members besides Jörgen were Nils (guitars), Anders (bass) and Sjöholm (drums). Gunnar who played keyboard joined later in the year. They began as a garage rock band, influenced among others by The Nomads and Wilmer X. Then later on incorporated various styles such as rockabilly, surf punk, metal, psychedelia and new wave/power-pop into their music. After two albums the band moved to Gothenburg in 1988 and continue as four piece. The band released their third full-length album Some Fun in 1989 and it became a breakthrough record for the band. The single "Julie" brought in further attention to the band's music, and I can confirm that! Two crackers on it crash like a truck through the wall of your house (especially the flip is the burner). Extensive tours followed, nine more albums as well and in 1999 Psychotic Youth broke up. Sixteen years later the band reunited with partly new members by request of US artist Kurt Baker and Norwegian Morten Henriksen (The Yum Yums) to accompany them on their Scandinavian tour in April 2015. And since then, the story continues...

V/A - Bloodstains Across The UK 4 1999

This morning I listen to a lot of old UK punk bands and I can't get enough from all these classics. So here's a great compilation of tracks taken from rare punk records and I'm sure you need no further details. The Bloodstains records are always limited to 500 copies and since 1992 at the start. The CD releases have mostly bonus tracks on it but who wants CD's? I prefer vinyl even if it needs more space, anyway. Here are eighteen essential punk rock blasts and the song selection is quite good, no failure, check other volumes on wdthtc - a must have! A small note at the end: song #2 is not 'Disco Veteran', it's 'I've Seen It, Vomit', if interested.

THE STRAPS - s/t LP 1982

Very good debut album on Cyclops Records by The Straps, a streetpunk combo which were formed 1978 in Battersea/South London by vocalist John Grant and guitarist Dave Reeves. A bit info from wiki: The band played their first gig at the Park Tavern in Streatham on 28 September 1978 with U.K.SUBS, the Tickets and Security Risk. Their original bassist, Green, died of a heroin overdose shortly after the first show and was temporarily replaced on bass by Grant's roommate, Andi Sex Gang, for a show at the Latchmere Pub in Battersea. Stan Stammers, former Epileptics bassist, joined in 1979 and guitarist Steve MacIntosh was replaced by Andy "Heed" Forbes. Drummers in this period included Luke Rendle (previously of Crisis) and the short-lived member Cliff. Stammers and Rendle left to join the Pack, who turned into Theatre Of Hate, while Forbes left to join the Wall. The Straps enjoyed a cult following around London, and performed alongside the Damned on their 1980 Black Album tour, as well as Sham 69 and Stiff Little Fingers, before splitting in 1983. They reformed in 1991 for a one-off gig at the Brixton Academy an 2012 for the ill-fated Last Jubilee and Punk by the Sea festivals, with a new lineup of Grant, Reeves, Davies and two new members: ex-Concrete Gods guitarist Phil McDermott and Morgellons bassist Mark Geraghty. In August 2013, the band released their third studio album, Brave New Anger and they're still rockin'.

V/A - 499 2139 1979

Oh, here again and I have a fantastic PowerPop compilation with mostly local bands from the U.K. in my luggage. Released via The Rocket Record Company, this is another nice example of an interesting record with solid tracks by short-lived unknown combos and a pleasant listening, in my opinion to the fourteen, is guaranteed. A slab that is not much valued and I think, you can get it for little money everywhere, that's a small perk so the mint fools ignore an excellent piece of wax, the artwork is simple but with useful liner notes on the insert. I didn't know any of the bands, bought them because of the low price and the release year and I'm not disappointed. Should you see the slab, buy it and enjoy fourteen lost refreshing nuggets from talented bands that deserve your full attention! That's it really for today, Soccer is due in about two hours, today versus RB Leipzig: not easy but I hope, it will be interesting and an exciting match with three points at the end. I'll see you tomorrow!

COMPOS MENTIS - From Behind The Wall EP 1986

Well, the game yesterday was boring and I fell asleep in part enough of it and before I use the sunshine day a short trip to New Zealand. First record by Compos Mentis from Wellington, active 1983-1987, on Sound Mind Records and they were influenced by overseas bands and wrote politically charged songs that critiqued both mainstream New Zealand and the cliquey factions within the alternative music scene. Described by Simon Cottle of Anti-System zine as “New Zealand's ultimate political thrash band” Compos Mentis lasted for a good half of the 1980s at a time when a more politicised punk scene was emerging in Wellington. "Compos Mentis had no support band, so the gigs started quite late, by which time reasonable crowds had turned up, consisting mainly of “hard-cores” and skins. Compos Mentis' songs may sound fast on tape, but live they were even faster, sparking off some wild dancing, which was slightly rough, but fun all the same. With such excellent lyrics, it's a pity the vocals weren't clear ( better the second night), still, the sheer energy made up for that. The band played amazing long sets, including material off their new EP and even a Crass cover. They were sweating like crazy, but managed to continue by rotating drummers, singers and guitarists. Low points were the filth sniffing around, some jerk yelling at Heather, and someone being knocked over by a grapple, but over-all it was two excellent nights of NZ punk thrash." CIRCLE JERKS - Live @ The Fillmore 24.05.1982

Yeah, one more excellent live recordings from my favorite live band Circle Jerks. I had the luck to experience them twice and the gentlemen are giants with their energetic short, fast pieces. Of course, I have all the records until the VI, the last (Oddities, Abnormalities & Curiosities) is a disaster. Funny that I didn't digitize any of them, I should change. I recommend you another show at the Fabrik/Hamburg 02.12.1987 and as you know Keith is still active in the famous combo OFF! which was formed 2010, nor harder, furious, pissed hardcore and pure energy. Proof of this are recordings from a gig 2013 in Sydney which stumbles your speakers. Enough bla bla, fire-free for finest American Hardcore!

CIRCLE JERKS - Live @ Fabrik/Hamburg 02.12.1987

Start today with a tape which I bought in Hamburg at a gig in 1990 I think. During my community service in Lüneburg I visit the second largest city in Germany because there was the action. The Fabrik is a cool location in Altona and I recommend you should have to go for a gig or something like that. A lot of good bands I saw there, Razzia, Dackelblut, Slime, etc... acute acoustic and always an excellent atmosphere. I think these recordings underline that a litte and let yourselves carry away. The Circle Jerks are one of my favourite US punk bands, always energetic and wild on stage. The sound quality is quite good and with over thirty-three songs, a decent mix of old classics and new songs, full with power and fun, ca. eighty minutes. Today Mr.Keith Morris toured with OFF! and you should stick your head in the sand if you didn't known. So I hope you like this post, was a small marathon for me (tape rippin' is truly a long mission).

V/A - A Fresh Selection 1981

A not uninteresting record is this gem from the house Fresh Records, a small label founded by Alex Howe's Wretched Records stall in London's Soho Market in 1978. Bands such as the Art Attacks, Second Layer, UK Decay and Manufactured Romance came to the stall looking for an outlet for their records. The label existed until 1982, at which point it became part of the Jungle Records family. This is Fresh 14 and shows a very cool overview of good bands which were not quite unimportant in the English underground scene and their singles are nowadays rare and still audible. Fourteen goodies, including some classics and a decent mix of new wave and punk.... undiluted, proper, tidy, preppy and of course... fresh!

An interesting record is the cooperation between the Greek label Wipe Out! Records and the Belgian Boom! Records which had in early nineties this idea. The chance for bands from both countries to snag a little attention. Musically very quite varied, whether punk, alternative, ska and wave - everything therewith. I would say the perfect sound for a train or bus ride, coz you won't go quick aggressive, you know. Artwork and infos are even cool and so overall a double shot of firing songs.

THE NOTHINGS - Alot To Learn 12'' 1983

Welcome to another rare slab from California with catchy powerful music by the Nothings from Los Angeles which were active in the early Eighties and this is their lone release and reissued 1999 with two bonus tracks (jojo). The band consisted of Rob (vocals), Phil (guitars & vocals), Lenny (bass), Bob (drums) and this five track 12Inch was released via Augustus Records. A short review: "If you thought the Sex Pistols sound was dead in 1983, you’ve got “a lot to learn,” because this Southern California group is the mirror image of the Pistols stylistically. They’ve got the same crunching rhythm attack and wall-of-sound guitar on the Rotten one’s vocals are missing. Highly recommended for nostalgia buffs." (Jeff Bale, MRR #10 • December 1983) - He describes their music perfect and the four are the American version of the Londoners, in every way. Oh Yeah, a fucking great five cruncher! They didn't get invited on compilations in their active lifespan, presumably because the songs always exceeded the three-minute mark but I think, they deserve full attention.

V/A - British Underground Vol.3 1993

Last and great conclusion of this little unofficial series called British Underground by Chaos Wrecords, 500 copies were pressed and even available on CD. Well, the song selection is once again excellent as the first two volumes and sixteen punk & wave goodies are gathered here and the stand out and my favorite track is by They Must Be Russians, such a great tune and simply terrific! I'm sure you will like this compilations because the mix is great and all three albums also contain hits and rarities. It's just a shame that after volume three no more were created and so we have to be satisfied with these three. After all, they are there and now have fun with them!

BAD RELIGION - Suffer 1988

Back With A Bang! You can say this without hesitation. After a five-year break and their foray Into The Unknown 'ProgRock' business, which was more a bummer, they returned to a somewhat mellower Rock&Roll version of their original sound with the Back To The Known EP (1985), but disbanded temporarily soon after. It was time to think and Bad Religion remembered what they can do best; writing short meaningful melodic energy Punk anthems and Suffer is the essence of it all and came out at the end of the Eighties, a time when HC/Punk was beginning to sprout and no wonder many critics praised the album as a Hardcore Milestone. Thirty-six versions of this slab confirm its popularity and my copy is the second press, I think. My review is short and sweet: I love this record, the only manko is the short playing time, but half an hour of Pogo makes you feel alive and on course again, and Greg's haunting voice pierces your body and bounces from the wall back at you. My absolute favorite is Do What You Want with its fast, dynamic, no-frills riffs and awesome lyrics, a fucking lightning strike of finest California Punkrock. Shit, why am I writing so much anyway? Buy this little fucker because you need this listening pleasure for REAL, and not those shitty uninspired digital files.

Still in a good mood this morning I continue with this cute black round nice one early UK punk stuff on Raw Records: "Twelve "Punk" tracks pressed from the Raw Tapes recorded in the last year. All bar one previously unissued. Recorded at Spaceward Studios, except track A4 recorded live. Produced for "Wall of Noise" Productions. Dedicated to all small labels, who are in it for the fun and glory, not just for the money." Fantastic kbd sounds without failure, twelve songs in twenty-eight minutes. Punk77 says: "Barring the first Roxy live album this compilation just reeks of Punk rock snottiness, teen angst dreams and burning bright bands caught in an explosion of rawness and innocence before the business and new trends changed or killed them off. No band here made more than 2 singles; in fact only two of them even made singles!...."

V/A - Flowers From The Dustbin 1983

Puh, what a fuckin' Saturday and what a fuckin' match too...I hate when I see a good game and this gets lost needlessly. Well, fuck the day, today it's time for another superb compilation from Down Under and this is the first Sydney Punk Bomb, released on Aberrant Records. If I compare this to the second one Not So Humdrum then I must say: The Kelpies are great (love this band), Positive Hatred are damn cool (World War XXIV too) and the rest is okay but knocks me not really from my stool. Well, about taste we can argue but apart from this all three compilations of this mini-serie are delicious. So, maybe I post something more later when my headaches have subsided.

V/A - Killed By Death #7 1993

Volume 7 scouring the globe to distant countrys and starts in the United States, a short visit to Canada and a longer stay in good old Europe. Eighteen bands, eighteen rare punk rock nuggets is called the baggage and it would be a significant loss to lose some on the road. So beware of luggage thieves and locker tricksters. Tickets are at a reasonable price just a click away (you have to be quick).
