CONTINGENT - s/t LP 2015

From Danger Records/Poch Records was finally the lost and only one album by Contigent in an edition of 500 copies released. The band were founded, probably in Brussels, by Bob (vocals), Eric (guitars), Guy (bass) and Jo (drums) and this line-up made their vinyl debut 1980 on Contigent Records and is a fine four track killer EP and was their only record and appeared on a bunch of great compilations .. until 2015. Why it did not come to the longplayer at that time is apparently due to the lack of interest of labels, money or possibly internal band rubbings. Now the recordings from 1981 have been dug up, remixed and sound amazingly fresh and absolutely fantastic. Comes with lyrics and rare pictures, unfortunately not there but who has one for me please send. Ears up for fourteen wild catchy stars.

V/A - Bloodstains Across The World #3 2019

I don't know how surprised you were but when I saw this new Bloodstains compilation on ebay I didn't think long after, I gave my bid immediately & won the auction. Unfortunately not as vinyl but as lame unspectacular CD-R in an edition of 100 copies. Anyway, The tracklist is interesting and I know 40% of it whose originals can be found in the blog and the rest is fuckin' new. I would say, has become an excellent result, only drawback for the poor artwork, which is capable of development and must be better. But in the end, it is nice that someone makes the effort to keep this grandiose series alive. It goes forward now with this sunny compilation by Incognito Records and its a small excerpt of their proud 333 x Up & Down series which features circa 45 EP's and a few of them are waiting somewhere in this theatre. I will quote the exquisite introduction by Barny, the label boss, so you know what medicine you need: "Two years ago we started putting out 7''s, which are limited to 333 handnumbered copies each. No, we're not lazy, but we were sick of the music-business and we wanted to release just good music by cool bands. We didn't look for famous names and didn't give a fuck about "market-chances" or bollocks like that. If we liked a band we put out a record by it. That was it! Of course, we couldn't expect to sell thousands of records by These not too famous upstarts, so we had to limit them. We thought 333 would be a not too bad number.... When the series started we've been surprised about the big publicity in mags and zines. People from all parts of the world wrote letters to us and in due of this big request we're re-releasing the best songs of the first bunch of 7''s now. An important note for CD-haters: this 74 minutes flood has one third more playtime than a LP, but it costs less than one third more than a vinyl-longplayer. Technical developments are not always bad, even not the "anti-punk" CD, if you use it the right way! Anyway: If you still hate silverfishs, go buy the original 7Inches of the 333 x Up & Down series. We're trying hard to feature bands from around the globe and so the '77 style survives us all." Finally, I would like to mention the excellent black and white artwork with lots of infos, pictures and little bedtime stories so that even deafs have their fun.

ZYKLOME A - Made In Belgium 1984

Bonheiden, 1980 Zyklome A were founded and in the beginning the band consisted of four members but soon Mark (vocals & bass), Toon (guitars) and Robin (drums) remained and with this line-up the band has done one gig in Mechelen. Punk Etc. Records showed interest and a number was released on the "Second Time Around" compilation tape. After this, many performances were done in the surroundings of Antwerp/Turnhout. In 1983, a split EP with Moral Demolition was released by the same label with three goodies of Zyklome A. After the release of "Made In Belgium" in 1983 the band played a lot in the Netherlands with bands such as B.G.K., Lärm and Pandemonium. Because of the many gigs there was no time to make new songs. Partly because of the conscription (fleeing) from Puttemans, the band stopped performing. In 1988 and 2016 the band did some reunion gigs. Brilliant record!

WALPURGIS VOLTA - s/t LP 1988

Brussels punx Walpurgis Volta released one 7Inch and two albums and were founded by Bob (vocals), Éric (guitars), Georges (bass) and Phil (drums) and this is their debut on La Rage. I remember very well the flea market where I bought this slab for little money, didn't know the band at all but the cover did my favor and so I took it with me. They packed twelve crazy friggel short songs on it and this investment has more than paid off. Not much is known about the band only after the end of Walpurgis some members start a new band called PPz30 in 1992 and their style is described as "freaka-rocka-funky-dirty" sound, formed of three former Voltas Eric, Phil and Georges with American actor and mime Bruce. PPz30 draws its influences in many genres such as funk, rock, hip-hop, reggae. The name of the group comes from the chemical formula of cement and this combo released four 7Inches + five albums. Sadly Éric dies in January 2012 and this event marks the end of PPz302. Okay, enough for today, I lie down and cure my migraine.

BLAST - Damned Flame 7'' 1973

Let's get to a band that is unlikely to be known, Belgium’s Blast: Antoni (vocals & bass), Tony (guitar) and Mick (drums), entered a studio and laid down the two songs on this 7”, which were released in 1973 on Majestic Records and it’s a frantic proto-punk record and was recorded and mixed in two hours. The band estimates between 300 and 500 copies of this 7Inch were originally pressed, but it lives on through a 2015 reissue from Death Vault Records (source: Decibel Magazine). A real blast!!

THE PRIDE - No Holding Back! 1996

After the Fresh & Burning EP this four piece Oisters from Bruges released their debut album via Streetpunk Records. The band starts in the early 90's as the Mushrooms, Patrick (drums), Steve (guitars) Chris (bass) and with second guitarist Berca they changed their name into The Pride and the music manifests in a decent streetpunk sound, away from the simple three chord punk of the early days. Meanwhile they have released a few records, played gigs and have a good name in the Oi! scene I think. Twelve solid untameable melodic hits and would you like to know more, point your cursor at Backstreet Battalion and have pleasure with an interview while you listen.

CHARTS - Tears 7'' 1979

At the beginning of the punkhype Belgium had a lively scene and lots of good bands made cool records, one of them follows now and it's another re-post which was first posted on the unfortunately inactive Girls From Tahiti Blog seven years ago and as loyal reader you know which rare and fantastic records were to be found there. Well, about the Charts there is absolutely zero info and even on relevant compilations the four are nowhere to found. Their only slab was released on Eden Production and Tears I've already used for one of my boring selfmade composition, the heartbreaking Kiss This (re-upped) weed. The a-side is a decent 3:44 number and I would almost say that I hear a slight breeze of Oi!, comparable to the early English or South American sound, the guitar heavily distorted and four chords are enough. The flip sounds as well, just a bit shorter = finished. Get Baque Records released a cool CD called Belgique Putain Frigide with massive highlights of the early Belgian scene and Charts were immortalized on it - Enjoy!!

RAXOLA - s/t LP 1978

Fantastic debut album by Raxola, a Belgian punk band which formed 1977 by Yves Kengen, who previously played in Bastard with Brian James. They are, with The Kids and Hubble Bubble, one of the three Belgian bands to have had the opportunity to record an album from the beginning of the punk era. They split up in 1979 after their record company fired them for becoming too progressive (!) but reformed in 2003. After two 7Inches and playin' some gigs they recorded a new album 'Guts Out' and brought it out on their own in 2017. Somehow the song 'Old Rat' has been in my head for days and I was not able to find the fuckin' band... doch nun endlich ist es vollbracht und ich kann wieder schlafen.... well, not everything is shit in my head. You find them as well on relevant compilations.

OK Leute, now we meet a fantastic bootleg which is peppered with eighteen raw and furious punk nuggets from around the world and a label called Reverendo Moon Records from Italy, certainly another synonym for an KBD maniac, pressed this compilation in an edition of 500 copies to the surface. Excellent mix of songs which mark the punk sound between 1977-1981 and you can say what you want: The music was at that time simply better and I wish I had been part of it. Well, no matter. All infos written on the back cover, superb record, let the drugs flow into your brain!

I'm sure a lot of you know the 1984 compilations which were released via the french label New Wave Records and all four volumes had lots of international bands and the chance to immortalize their songs on vinyl, some became known, others dissolved. Well, I still have one tonight and its the fifth volume of the classic Back To Front compilation on Incognito Records with rare and obscure punkrock worldwide and the vinyl version is again limited to 1000 copies. Was in principle already in sleep mode but it came surprisingly visit from a very good friend of mine and you know what that means. Fuck Off tomorrow, no matter that I have to sit at 6:00 on my bike so I shit fat on it, you only live once and the night I will enjoy. The whole ass-kisser doesn't live and I hope your none of those... The Gin tastes good, the music makes me breathe and the full moon salutes! HATE CREW - Silent Rage 1987

Also this band is completely underestimated in my opinion and deserves more attention. Hatecrew were founded in 1985 by four old friends and all played in other bands but they wanted to do their own thing. So after a few gigs and cuts on tape compilations they released one record on Punk Etc. with thirteen decent hardcore smasher. One of the albums that I exchanged for other plates, I'm not really sad about it but after hearin' again I must say maybe a little. Anyway, it's a good production with a cool info sheet within and their last vinyl output is found on the Threshold compi. - Lend them an ear

DE STRANGERS - Punk 7'' 1978

Here is another 7inch with the sounding title 'Punk', therefore here. De Strangers was an Antwerp group especially gained fame by humorous - often socially critical - to sing lyrics in Antwerp dialect on well-known hit melodies. In this case they do a nice version of Plastic Bertrand' hit Ça Plane Pour Moi and it's not really vital but if you do not know them you will have fun, like me. The group was founded on May 1952 by Gust Torfs, Alex Boeye, Pol Bollansee and John De Wilde, though they sang then in Standard dutch. Their first performance was in Hoboken on 7.January 1953. By 1965 they had already performed 1000 times. Lots of records were released but nothing for my taste so. The flip is probably a typical De Strangers song, funny & danceable. The bands last performance took place on 14.May 2002 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in Antwerp, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the group. In 2003, they donated their entire archive to the city of Antwerp. In 2006, a one-off reunion concert took place in honor of the Mayor's Ball in Antwerp. That's it!

THE SCABS - There's Nothing Wrong 7'' 1981

I thought So Called Friends is Scabs' best song but they can make it better with their second 7Inch, again on Refused Records. The title track is a driving number wherein the bass dominates the rhythm and the rest fits to, it's like a drug as in some cultures where people singing oneself into a frenzy you know. At 3:30 in the morning certainly a difficult challenge and holidays are not in. The flip is a bit weak and is in my opinion too poppy and uninspired... and now a big cup of coffee.
