KILLER PRALINEN - s/t 12'' 1982

Killer Pralinen is a combo from Frankfurt, my hometown, and emerged from Middle Class Fantasies, and consisted of Deo (vocals), Judas (guitars), Prinz Hulk (bass) and TG (drums) and to document the cut, they decided to change their name to Killer Pralinen. Musically, elements from the avant-garde were adopted. They moved away from the fast and hard punk style which they presented gloriously in their few publications, towards post-punk in the style of Killing Joke and UK Decay. In 1982 the band released their only 12'' on Aggressive Rockproduktionen which flopped and really disappointed the punk hearts in Germany, but now a sought-after rarity. Tensions within the band spread and they played again in front of an almost empty hall in Bochum and then dissolved. Today; after Prinz Hulk and TG so also Deo passed away a few years ago. Over the years and not least because of their participation on the first Soundtrack Zum Untergang compilation, the band became cult status of the German punkscene. Their recordings were distributed via bootlegs. In addition, some songs appeared again and again on compis, such as Party In The Gaskammer on the anti-Nazi compilation Nazis Raus!, published by Zap Fanzine and Weird System, etc.... When inquiries accumulated, Deo recorded five older but never published songs from the Killer Pralinen era together with Michael "11" Mayer and Stephan Mahler from Slime which were 2007 published on the complete discography of Middle Class Fantasies under the title Fick Dich Selbst by WS.

THE MOB - We Come To Crush 1986

"Second album by the Mob from New York on Big City Records. The band were formed 1980 and began when Jack Flanagan left the group Heart Attack to form his own group with Ralph (vocals), John (bass), and Nicko (drums). After being exposed to hardcore through a Bad Brains show at CBGB, the group started playing harder and faster, moving away from the sound of the first wave of New York City Punk rock bands. In 1981, Jose Gonzalez officially joined the group, following John Frawley's departure to join Heart Attack, and Jamie Shanahan replaced Nicko on drums. The band continued, more or less with this lineup until 1991, when they went on a hiatus that would last nearly twenty years, with only a handful of sporadic shows and releases. In 2011 the group reunited to play live shows and record new music once again."

THE INFORMATION - Husen På Rad 7'' 1982

The Information was a Swedish four piece from Skövde and were active between 1976-1984. The band had a church background but that didn't stop them from falling for punkrock. Especially singer & guitarist Conny Kjell became a big fan and started the Information with his little brother Göran, also guitarist, in early 1976. Friends Dennis Höglund (bass) and Arne Renström (drums) had played in punk bands before and made the band complete. The band name was a pastiche on American Television, and the band got quickly gigs in their home region. In 1980, their vinyl debut was made on the Rockplock compilation with only Christian (!) bands via Talking Music label. There they tried to do something more nasty, but only with their 7Inch Husen På Rad from 1982, they founded their solid powerpop/new wave sound. After the second single Tankar Och Tvivel the band was attended by EMI and Stranded. The band chose Stranded and in 1984 their only full-length album Ljuset Bryter Igenom came out and was very influenced by U2 and Big Country. Despite good reviews and contracts with booking companies, however, the breakthrough failed. Göran moved to Gothenburg for study, and the others began to lose interest in continuing the band. Not long after, Dennis died after a period of illness and thus ended the last chapter. (Info from Ny Våg) - Two decent numbers can be found on this rare slab, a four minute piece on the A-side, a short one on the flip.

V/A - Bloodstains Across Germany 1998

I think it's a great choice to open a delicious beer on a Friday morning and present another Bloodstains killer compilation. Today to guest in the heart of Europe: Germany. The German punkscene has born numerous fantastic bands in their early days, which have released numerous essential records which still haven't lost nowadays none of their explosiveness and sharpness (a few examples in the blog). Politically, ironically, self-critically, cheekily, provocatively and of course anarchistically classics were recorded and in twenty-one classics immortalized on this slab. Und damit nicht genug; a second compi was made a short time later which I will post shortly. A nice intro from the back cover for you: "Achtung! you filthy punkrock scum. It's time for a new edition of the wonderfully sick Bloodstains records. This time we take you to scenic Germany, home of Auschwitz, Jägermeister and pretty peasant woman. Hard to believe, but there was a time when those Krauts were actually pushing something then schnitzel and beer." Funny or... let's go crazy, enjoy the music & have a sunny delicious weekend!

TROGSTA TRÄSK - Pelle I Skogen 7'' 1981

Der frühe Vogel fängt die geile Scheibe und das ist heute, und das ist nichts neues, eine famose aus Schweden. This rare record was released after a pop contest which has the band won and pressed in a small edition on Forsa Ljud. Trogsta Träsk were a three piece combo, Ubbe (vocals & bass), Anders (drums) + Lasse (guitars). They were founded in Hudiksvall and they played a few gigs and that's all, unfortunately I must say, because both tracks are real damn killers and a must for every '77 kbd style nerd, like me. I'm really excited about this racy driving poppy sound the boys here celebrate and yes, this is a crone juwel!! Too bad that this is their only record. I think, I would use a song for my next compilation. The bands present on 'Varning För Punk' and Bloodstains Across Europe. Highly Recommended!

VENOM - Barmy Army 7'' 2013

This nugget was released via Punkhouse Records, 250 copies in red vinyl and both tracks were recorded 1980-1981. I quote info from discogs: Consisting of David 'Snakey' Cooze on vocals, Glenn Evans on bass/vocals, Dai Monk on guitar and Sam Phillips on drums, the Venom played their first gig on 3rd may 1979 - the day Margaret Thatcher was voted in as Prime Minister. Formed from the remains of local punk heroes the Noise, the four-piece took their original inspiration from the old-school DIY ethic of bands such as The Clash and Slaughter & The Dogs. Monk and Phillips moved on in early 1980 and were replaced by Wayne Rowe & Steve 'Gagsy' Garland respectively. Following an incident at a football match the band took an enforced hiatus at Her Majesty's Pleasure. When they re-emerged, Snakey took to wearing a balaclava on stage and their style morphed towards the crowd pleasing chant-along style of Sham 69. The band recorded three self-funded sessions over their career, yielding such local punk classics as Saturday Afternoon Trouble, Barmy Army and their own irreverent take on Nancy Sinatra's 1966 hit - These Boots Were Made For Stomping. The results impressed Sounds journalist Garry Bushell enough to pen two articles about the band and subsequently include the track Where's Dock Green? on the Back On The Streets EP that accompanied the third Oi! album Oi Oi Thats Yer Lot. Their association with the Oi movement attracted an ever-expanding fanbase of punks and skins that saw previously good humoured gigs often descend into violence. The band called it a day in summer 1982 following their final gig at Swansea's Townhill Tech.

BANDAGE - Republik EP 1978 + Populär 7'' 2015

You take what you have, Bandage thought and sat in a boy's room in the mid seventies and tried to mimic the hard rock bands with the help of acoustic guitars. In April 1977, they thought it was time to buy real gadgets, and in the same vein they heard the Ramones, The Clash and Sex Pistols and decided that it was punk they wanna play. In July the same summer, they did their first gig at a farm party in Tyresö. The set was then Peter (vocals/bass), Jan (guitar) and Stefan (drums). A little later Stefan #2 joined as 2nd guitarist. Then the high school began to approach the end and for a couple herded the lump. When Bandage rented a studio in May 1978 to record this four-song EP, it was already almost clear that the band would be closed down. Although the studio technician had to decide, it had not become a record. He suggested a little tentatively that it might be enough if they used the recording as a demo ... But a record it was, though so terribly punk it didn't sound. "Republik" their attack on the royal house, and closing "Sven Brutal" were pretty tough songs, while "Jesus Lever" could be mistaken for a religious song. However, they assured it was irony. And speaking of irony, they changed the lyrics from "Republik" to "Diktatur" instead of emphasizing the irony. But according to David Halvars, it was marginally more people who understood the irony in the text line “Dictatorship - We should have that! Dictatorship - We want that! Dictatorship - We shall have that in our country ”. Over time, a new bandage emerged. With only Peter and Jan from the original set, they continued for a while before the band went to the grave for good. (Info from the book Ny Våg)

In 2015 Slyngel Rekords dug out two more lost nuggets from the Stockholms and released the single in an edition of 300 copies in purple vinyl. They exchanged a few members, including David Halvars from Bitch Boys in the band, and recorded a demo in 1980 that sounded much rougher than the EP. The demo ended up on the radio program New Vags editorial which meant that the Swedish people got to experience a catchy punkpop song named "Populär". What should I report further? This is excellent stuff whereby I like the new single almost better but that's like everything, a matter of taste and I’m sure you’ll enjoy this fantastic stuff - they only existed about a year and never get outside Stockholm.

CRIMINAL CLASS - Demo 1984 EP

Sunday is off to a good start and I am already looking forward to the fresh strawberries I just got from the farmer, but before I nibble, a nice rare EP that was only pressed 200 times. Unofficial re-release of the band's demo tape from 1984 which was made at Sight & Sound Upper York St. Earlsdon, Coventry. Criminal Class was formed in Coventry, England in 1979, one of the first Oi!/Skinhead bands to emerge. The band made their debut on the compilation Strength Thru Oi! in 1981 by Decca Records, which turned out to be a catastrophe for all the bands that appeared on the compilation due to violence that occured in Southall that same year. The following year the band released their only single, Fighting The System in 1982 by Tempest Records. Even though the band had slow tempo songs, their lyrics were very powerful. Had to do with corruption in England, the Falklands War, police brutality, black and white unity, and more. The band split up in the mid '80s and later reformed in 2000 after the release of the CD Blood On The Streets: the Criminal Class Oi! Collection by Captain Oi!, recollecting tracks from the EP, compis, demos & tracks that were never released. (info taken from XXX). And now vitamins!

MOTTEK - Riot 1986

A little early for riot but the second album of Mottek on Starving Missile is suitable at all times. This record were recorded by Stephan (vocals/guitars), Margret (bass/vocals) and Bernward (drums), and eleven full head to the front metallic punkies with excellent lyrics and a razor-sharp production characterize this record by the three from Hildesheim. The transformation from punk to metal was finally completed in their last album Fatal ViolenceRiot is an energetic album, some copies were pressed in colored vinyl, and has lost nothing of its powerful sound to this day.
