PELLE MILJOONA & 1980 - Pelko Ja Viha 1979

Pelko Ja Viha (Fear & Anger) is the bands debut album and was released in spring of 1979 at Love Records. The album has been recorded at Love Studiossa early 1979 in Reino Isoaho. Before the album was titled Pelle Miljoona & 1980, the band performed under the name Pelle Miljoona & 1978 and Pelle Miljoona & 1979. The album cover image has two different versions. CD's and some vinyls have on the cover a picture of where Pelle Miljoonan's eyes are twisted and Tumppi Varonen which had a million facial expressions, well I never seen this. The vinyl's first edition covers were laminated, so the rumors. Anyway, fact is: Pelko Ja Viha is one of the most famous albums of the early 80's and is still hot alongside the motorway. The song 'Enää Itkeä Voit' is a Finnish cover version of Bob Dylan's 'Like A Rolling Stone' and is very cool played. I'm not a fan of Dylan, I mean he wrote good songs but he can't sing and so it's good when a band pick up one and interpreted this in their own way. This album was recorded by Pelle Miljoona (drums & vocals), Tumppi Varonen (drums & vocals), Ari Taskinen (bass) and Rubberduck Jones (guitars). Very good album by Helsinki's melody virtuoso's and this really turns me on.

PELLE MILJOONA - Nuoret Sankarit 1978-1982

Pelle Miljoona was a Finnish punkrock band which was founded in 1979 and disbanded in 1983. The band is (along with Pelle Miljoona & 1980) the most famous of Pelle Miljoona’s bands. They released a lot of singles and LP's and so this two CD collection gives a pretty view of the creative life of this extraordinary band by Petri Samuli Tiili (so the real name from Mr.Pelle). Disc one contains early recordings and the songs are short, punk and just plain cool, and even here already rocking numbers represented. I think the versatility which present the band their goodies is very nice and with a total running time of almost two hours makes listening to both CD's never boring. On the second disc are the songs on average much playing time with three minutes longer, topped with poppy keyboards and ska elements, so that is a pleasure to listen here too. All in all, the 36 songs slip comfortably into any bloodstream. So if you have the opportunity to buy this record, do this without hesitation.

V/A - Hilse 1979

The Hilse record was the first Finnish punk compilation and it really has all the important punk bands of the late 70's on it. A LP that everyone should have in your record collection. There are many simple reasons, the song 'Just Like Eddy, I Hate Teddy' from KOHU-63 is awesome, 'Ketään Ei Kiinnosta Mitään' by Pelle Miljoona 1980 is crazy & weird, the Beatles cover (Sensuuri), Briard & Ratsia tracks are killers etc. etc....all eighteen songs rock decently how we all like & know Finnish PunkRock (this is the CD version with eleven goodies from Hilse II). Enjoy!!!!

PROBLEMS? - Katupoikia 1980

Lots of damn good releases came from the far north of Europe and the next goodie is the debut record by Problems? They are a Finnish punk band from Helsinki, built around Tumppi Varonen (vocals), Stefan Piesnack (guitars), Häkä (bass), Droppis (drums) and Rubberduck Jones (additional guitar on the live side) which for many years has played with punk pioneer Pelle Miljoona. The band was founded in the late 70s, inspired by Ramones and Sex Pistols and became popular with their first single "Ei Tää Lama Päähän Käy" (original on Love Records, in 2012 re-released) which is a fuckin' killer song. There's a lot of energy in their music and it's not easy for me to play this record quiet, haha... Particular mention is here the A Side is full of studio recordings while the B side were recorded live at Tavastia Club, Kill City in Summer 1979. I think this is one of the first LP's with this dichotomy, I like this idea because I'm a friend of live stuff. During certain periods, the group performed under the name Tumppi Varonen & Problems? and in 2011 they are more than alive and kicking, because this year they released a live album (Suora Lähetys) with bursting excitement. Let's revive the fresh young years again!
