V/A - Killed By Death #2 1989

From my former Blog one more compilation of tracks from extremely rare punk records (1977-1982). First pressing was limited to 700 copies and pressed on black vinyl with yellow and black labels. Killed By Death, a series of bootleg compilations showcasing some of the rarest punk rock to date, keeps this tradition alive. KBD wasn't the only compilation series to take on limited-run and out of print punk, but it had the greatest impact, and continues to be produced today. There's a mostly secret and sordid history behind these compilations; many were produced illegally, and as such, lack contact information. With a very few clues, I set out to explore this bizarre world of "grey-market" punk rock releases. So here comes Volume 2 and a truly great record. One great song after another. If you had to get just one Killed By Death record, you can really take almost every record in my opinion. A classic in far too many ways to even take a stab at here. Still one of the best comps ever. Reissue on red vinyl, same tracks as the original. So KBD never grew out of being KBD, and I will never grow out of listening to it.

V/A - Killed By Death British D.I.Y. - Vol.1 1998

I think it's the last KBD Compilation that's missing here and this slab isn't that bad as the title suggests. From Lo-Fi to decent songs, the range is amazingly diverse and anyone who likes things a bit easier will get their money's worth with this cutie. Liner Notes: "Hello & welcome to the newest installment of Killed By Death series. There is now so many, who knows for all of them? So we start over with #1 in an offshoot to pay tribute to all great British D.I.Y. bands from the late 70's & early 80's. Sure everyone to have recordings by SWELL MAPS & TVP'S, but how about the SODS & all the rest of most excellent sounds on this record? We start off with LONDON PX & their classic handclap singalong 'Orders' from '81. Next are two cuts from the fantastic EP 'Deadbeat Revival' by HORNSEY AT WAR which came out in 1979. The PETTICOATS do 'Normal', then it's the MUD HUTTERS with 'Water Torture' off their spazzed out 1979 EP, 'The Declaration'. My mother says they are to sound like Punk version of legendary Stardust cowboy. It's true! PURITAN GUITARS '£100 In 15 Minutes' from their 1980 handstamped Riverside label. The DISCO ZOMBIES did three 45ers I know of, all are to kill for. 'Drums Over London" was the 2nd one I found & was in amazing silscreened wraparound sleeve. The SODS end side one with their organ driven classic 'No Pictures' from 1979 on Stortbeat. FUN 4 were Scottish & drummer Steven Daly later was to be in Orange Juice. Why is this record dedicated to Simon Weisenthal. To much! Another Stortbeat band SPELLING MISSTEAKS follow with 'Popstar'. Do not confuse them w/New Zealand band of the same name. ONE GANG LOGIC ask the question 'Who Killed Sex'? It wasn't me. Maybe you? The ATOMS do the great & goofy 'Beatlejacket'. The wirdo sounds of 012 are next w/'Fish From Tahiti' which is on the Weird Noise comp on Fuck Off Records. SHOES THIS HIGH were from New Zealand not England but they were great. 'The Nose One' is the best from their rare EP. Were they British, they would have made many records for Step Forward. It's true! Now go out, buy fish & chips & bottles of lager & crank this the fuck up. It's great! Thanks to Spider for all help."  That should be enough to make the vinyl interesting and a second part is possible in the foreseeable future, maybe.

1.Orders - LONDON PX
2.Hornsey At War - HORNSEY AT WAR
3.U.C.2. Much 4 Me - HORNSEY AT WAR
4.Normal - PETTICOATS
5.Water Torture - MUD HUTTERS
6.100£ In 15 Minutes - PURITAN GUITARS
7.Drums Over London - DISCO ZOMBIES
8.No Pictures - THE SODS
9.Singin In The Shower - FUN 4
10.Pop Star - SPELLING MISSTEAKS
11.Who Killed Sex? - ONE GANG LOGIC
12.Beetlejacket - THE ATOMS

V/A - Killed By Sunshine 2019

Part VI of my small serie 'Rare German Underground', this time with stuff from the Eighties, taken again from rare Demos, Singles & Albums and first of all, my sincere thanks! to Reinhard which gave me this cute part brimming with rare German underground 1981-1989 for my little series available and thus you and me a little joy. The title came to mind when I was busy with a Killed By Death compilation and had already finished the cover, but now I find its a little stupid, I had other ideas but since I don't write anything down I've forgotten, no matter, the artwork pleases and you can see my first Iro at the tender age of, well ... I believe a year. As always your opinion interests me and I am grateful for many comments. The next part will come and until then I wish you a pleasant listening hereby.

V/A - Killed By Death #007 2000

In principle I like almost every Killed By Death compilation LP but in this I was very excited so far. The track list here reads like a historical event, equipped with tons of rarities nowadays which are only still available at exorbitant prices. You can probably imagine how happy I am when this part of cream fluttered into my house. At this point, again my deep bow to you, Fredrik. I will not use more words about the music, only this: This compilation kicks every lame ass and shoots like a machine gun, volley to volley, in your blood. Whoever here sits still is definitely disturbed. 1000 copies, I think, were made and this is a german release. Generally an awesome LP with no losers and nice to see some good French bands, especially Les Olivensteins, and the Remo Voor song is really cool as well. Pflicht-Download!!!!

V/A - Killed By Death #24 1999

If you're looking for more old punk stuff then you lucky, your search stops here. After a bit of a breather in the swarm of Killed By Death comps issued, this one comes as a breath of fresh air. A good mix of never-before comped bands and uncomped songs by bands we all know and love, mostly here from Europe & the USA, consistently a further essential worthwhile punk compilation. After the first listening by this piece of vinyl I felt every song would go over 3 minutes and that's quite unusual for a KBD sampler but what makes this a special one. At this stage of the compilation game (mid 1999) it would be near impossible to put out an LP of mostly unknown killer material from 1977-1981. There's still some number of LP's worth of material that could (and likely will) be released and this record will compare well to most anything else to follow.

1.Muff Divin' - GIZMOS
2.Underground - CINECYDE
3.N-N-E-R-V-O-U-S - TRASH
4.Cold Beat - THE SOUND
5.Way Out World - SHRAPNEL
6.Come On Now - THE RATS
7.Coming To See You - KRYPTON TUNES
8.School Teacher - MUTANTS
9.Back Street Billy - BILLY KARLOFF BAND
10.You Gotta Support - SUBWAY
11.Accident - WARM GUN
12.Pretenders Zeal - NUCLEAR SOCKETS
13.Chinese Boys - ZERO ZERO
14.I Used To Know You - NCM
15.Electric Chair Execution - THE STUDS

THE FLYIN' SPIDERZ - s/t LP 1977

Eindhoven formation begins in 1976 as rhythm & blues band, closely related to the British pubrock. In 1977 the group switching to punk. The Flyin' Spiderz is the first Dutch punk band that appears on plate. In the early days the band is affiliated with the Dynamite label and booking agency of the European independent pioneer Pieter Meulenbroek (Sky Dog). The single 'Down', with a cover design by Joost Swarte, is never released. The group plays in 1977 as opening for The Damned in Paradiso. Sky Dog goes over the head and the band gets offered a contract with EMI. The debut album contains aggressive rock & roll, which is more like the music of pre-punk band as Count Bishops than that of the Pistols or The Damned. The Spiderz touring extensively throughout the country and arouse their energetic show and punk image especially in rural bewildered and sometimes aggressive responses.

1978 the second album 'Let It Crawl' came out and goes more into rock. From the moment bassist Van Vugt is replaced by Jan Snep, remains messing around this time equivalent. One year later a third album called 'Birthday' was planned but was not released because EMI terminates the contract. Roadie Bart Brouwer joins as a keyboard player in the band, which moves the band into a more melodic. The band recently called in to The Spiderz and brings the 'Pressure' album out on WEA.

The fourth record 'Lines Of Lust' goes towards new wave. The group is expanding its field successfully to France, including appearances on TV, in Gribus Club in Paris and at the Festival of Montreux (July 13th). In England, the group in the schedule during the British tour of Iggy Pop. The British bassist Walter Langdon replaces John Snep. A new mix of I'm Yours Tonight appears on single with a guest role on keys Manfred Man.

After releasing the 7inch 'The Test' in 1981 the band broke up.

So this debut album was released in 1977 and is the first Punk LP by a Dutch Band and it's pretty fantastic. It's apparent in the music that this was a pub rock band that adapted quickly to the new punk sound spreading it's filth across Europe. "These four erratic Dutchmen, led by rhythm guitarist/singer/songwriter Guus Boers, put forth solid, Stonesy punk just a hair better than a hundred others of like mind, threatening to turn derivation to their advantage but never quite succeeding. Neither album shows more than fleeting signs of excitement, and neither has better than perfunctory production." Check more Spiderz on the Killed By Death #F.U.2 and Killed By Epitaph or other essential compilations.

TRASH - This Is Complete Trash! 2011

I remember their first 7Inch was posted on my former blog and since then this great band has been forgotten until I was asked for this compilation which was published by Only Fit For The Bin Records in an edition of 200 copies only as CD six years ago. Twelve rare goodies, the pieces of their singles + unreleased demos & live material and an radio interview from 1977. Trash formed 1976 in Weybridge/Surrey and signed to Polydor (!) and released two singles. Auditioned in front of Roger Daltrey and John Entwistle for the role as a mod group in the film 'Quadrophenia', but didn't get the part. Trash split in 1979. Not much on compilations represent but the detectives immortalized them on Killed By Death #F.U.2 and Killed By Death #24Enjoy the dirty sound of Trash and have always a smile ready.

V/A - Killed By Death #1010011010 2002

I think, it's time for another rare compilation from the grandiose Killed By Death series, today we dedicate ourselves to the 300 copies slab by Teenage Lust Records and meet twenty howlin' punk anthems of 1977-1982. The detectives convince with healthy taste and I think, the mix with well-known classics and pieces that are found somewhere on hard-to-get singles is fucking felicitous. Exact my bottle of Hefe and the right sound for breakfast! Admit, you've been waiting for this a long time...

V/A - Killed By Death #19 1998

700 pressed on black vinyl with plain white labels in a nice foldout sleeve. Shit! Another volume of Killed By Death!!!! Don't worry man, this is the ultimate and greatest of this stupid series. This one contains tons of rare and marvellous examples of American punkrock between '79-'80 (except the K-Tels were from Canada). Several of the records included here would quite likely give collectors their greatest sexual experience were they to actually get their hands on them. You get to hear one track from the Jackie Shark & The Beach Butchers 7", almost completely unknown until very recently. There is also a track from the Noise 7", one of the top 10 over-rated punk records of all time. As is usual with obscure American punk records many of these are good, worth listening to a few times a year, but would you be stupid enough to pay hundreds of dollars for them?

1.2nd Generation Rising - JACKIE SHARK & THE BEACH BUTCHERS
2.I Want Sex - REACTORS

V/A - Killed By Death 1989

With this record the Killed By Death (Motörhead 1984) serie is born and stands today for brilliant punkrock of the glory late 70s-early 80s days. Everyone knows today what is meant. This copy was released 500 times, later re-released without the Beastie Boys tracks. I guess, I'm not the only one who is grateful for this serie, and I think the makers have not thought it would so fuckin' bang in and become lots of followers. Sure, all these records are bootlegs and the bands never seen any royalties, you can think what you want, but I think it was a good idea because many bands don't exist or the members are out of sight. Anyway, ultimately offer the plates a fantastic overview of what was cool that time and the originals are long sold out and therefore a good thing. Well, let's see when there is a new release comin' along.

1.I Hate Music - THE MAD
2.Hillside Strangler - HOLLYWOOD SQUARES

V/A - Killed By Death #20 1998

Another Killed By Death round is opened and again with tons of early rare international punkrock blasts. 700 copies were pressed on black vinyl with plain pink labels and a few on pink vinyl with white labels and full liner-notes on the back. A damn hot good LP of previously uncompiled material. Nothing too crappy here. I guess all those Cads EP's people couldn't trade or sell before will suddenly be hot items. The idea of taking good tracks from compilation LP's full of otherwise uninteresting material is a good one. That should be good for a few more KBD volumes [half text stolen :>]!!!!

V/A - Killed By Death #13 1993

Happy New Year all together and I don't understand why the link to The Face doesn't work, but try again folks, link's fixed, thx Reinhard. And now enjoy another KBD compilation, # 13 and all tracks are recorded between 1978 and 1983. From liner notes on the back: "This volume of Killed By Death differs from the others in a few ways. It concentrates on just one region, California. And instead of containing previously released rare records, this one is culled from demo tapes, mostly from bands that never had any releases." I hope, that this link works and no more damn problems arise, otherwise I will lose the fun of this hobby.

V/A - Killed By Death #69 1997

Hui, I'm in a small beer inebriation and my body screams for food. OK, here's musical food with another superb bootleg compilation from the Killed By Death series. "Hey you proud punkrock scum, what we offer you is international punkrock cause it's better.", so starts the liner notes on the back cover and Yeah, this writer's not wrong. This record contains both sides of rare original 7inches from the early wild days and kicks your fuckin' brain out, pressed in 500 copies. The makers have once again ensured that the KBD series are one of the best of all time, as well as a football World Cup. No failure, only hits, no complaints. This record is one of the rarest KBD albums and disappeared very quickly, good luck to find a copy.

V/A - Killed By Death #9 1995

"All American Punk, No Foreign Junk" on Volume #9 and here we found more obscurities and even more rare punkrock from the good old days and what shall I write more about this awesome compilation? One great song hunts another and all tracks are Killers!! 2000 pressed on black vinyl with orange and red labels. Due to a "printing problem," about 200 copies have tan labels with red ink. The repress (of 1000) has a blue and black cover (as opposed to the white and black cover of the first pressing). All Killed By Death or Bloodstains compilations and bands have pushed open the door for a new wave of weirdos, because these types of releases will flourish the CD age. KBD would never go boring and I will never stop listening to it.

1.Break My Face - TAPEWORM
2.Blues For An Insurance Salesman - TAPEWORM
3.Police State - CRAP DETECTORS

V/A - Killed By Death #41 1998

Welcome again to another number of the Killed By Death series (find for more KBD volumes over the search option), a further collection of some punkrock rarities, mostly europe here, with an international focus, featuring a couple places that didn't have a big punk scene. V/A - Killed By Death #50 2003

Well, the flu has me still in the grip and I can not help the shit, sure a terror virus. So better we turn to the next post, another round extremely rare tracks of swedish punk records 1978-1982 which are here gathered on Killed By Death #50. Every single pressed in small editions and today more or less hard to find. Sure, you can find mp3's in the net and for record nerds like me who have not the chance to get the originals are such bootlegs welcome. A few of the goodies can be find on kbdrecords or elsewhere. Needless to say that along with Volume #51 two fantastic compilations in this series are conjured. Only hits, info sheet inside, 500 copies. Don't waste time and start downloading.
