PHOSPHOR - Sandra Lee EP 1981

A few minimalistic sounds now by Phosphor, a band from Hanover and formed 1979 by Lennart (guitar/vocals), Jens (bass/vocals), Uwe (drums), Frank (saxophone), and a good year later they released their debut EP with five songs via the band's own label Spargel Schallplatten. Followed by the album Frisch & Fruchtig, which was voted one of the ten best independent long-playing records from Germany by the English New Musical Express. Phosphor disbanded in 1980 and Jens went to Der Moderne Man and the rest had already formed the NewWave band Index Sign by late 1979. At the beginning of 1981 this last EP with three tracks was released. For the fact that they were more local and their records sometimes reach decent amounts among collectors, they are welcome guests on relevant CompilationsI think, a relaxing finish for the first bad day of the week.

THE FANS - Giving Me That Look In Your Eyes EP 1979

Debut 7Inch by The Fans, a four piece which formed around 1978 in Bristol and this record features three PowerPop goodies and was a remarkable success for them, so that the second Single You Don't Live Here Anymore followed a year later. After this release the four secured a major publishing deal but internal frictions about musical direction caused the band to split. The Japanese reissue label 1977 Records brought another EP in 2009 with three more songs and Radiation Reissues put out 2021 a Compilation with all their recordings plus rare demo tracks. Good stuff and the right sound for this Sunday midday!

T.B.C. - Atompilz EP 1997

500 copies on Krachschwindel Records and T.B.C. was a short four piece from Berlin and consisted of Der Dicke Klaus (vocals), Ratte (guitars), Dietmar (bass), Igel (drums) and were founded in the early Eighties and made their only tape 60/30 in 1982 and two songs from it made it onto the grandiose Mutti's Muntere Melodei Compilation by Destiny Records. Fifteen years later, the label discovered the recordings and packed seven typical snotty D-Punk numbers onto this small, desirable 7Inch. The recording quality is okay throughout and they were taken from the original tape and not remixed, music like this wants to be left raw and unpolished. And that is given here, short, dirty and demanding songs that not only make Hardcore manaics happy! T.B.C. later became Porno Patrol which released their only great Jump Back EP in 1984 and some Compi entrances. - Enough stuff for today, you know it's Saturday, I leave the stage to watch what?

RAMONES - Swallow My Pride EP 1977

Nun, with the Ramones you never can't go wrong and I don't want to write much more about the four from New York, we all know their story. Famous band, one-two-three-four forward Punkrock with a lot of leather on it. This is, I think, the fourth 7Inch and both songs on the A-side were taken from the second album Leave Home while the flip is a goodie which was recorded live at The Roxy in Los Angeles. This music is still absolutely high class and I'm always in a good mood when I listen to and often play them when I'm in trouble or pissed off. In the meantime their original records have increased in value and I advise anyone who doesn't know the band, they really exist, to buy their records because there's hardly a bad one out there.

V/A - Spit On Your Grave! Vol.2 2004

Ahhh, it's so nice that there are still holidays, even if they are religious in origin. I always welcome them and I think there should be more of them. Today is one of those and we'll come to one more post and it's the second & final Compilation from Buried Alive Recordings with more rare KBD goodies of early American stuff and like Volume 1 this selection is also impressive. Just wait a minute, I still have to buy some alcohol.... well, unfortunately there isn't a lot of information here either, cheap packaging and there isn't a 1977 song on it, but that doesn't bother you because the CD is well stocked and you can buy a copy cheaply or look for the original 7Inches which is almost impossibleNow it's time to dust off my place, prepare a delicious meal later, create covers for a self-made compilation and maybe a third post will follow, ma gugge.

SKI PATROL - Agent Orange + 1 7'' 1980

A band that got little reputation is Ski Patrol from London, which founded 1979 by former The Wall and future Folk Devils singer Ian Lowery and Nick Clift of The Debutantes. Inspired by the darkwave and Punk-funk sounds and emotions of British PostPunk bands, and also influenced by the Jamaican rhythms and politically charged environment, Ski Patrol set about writing angular, moody songs that fused Lowery's dark lyrical pre-occupations with Clift's ringing guitar. Joined by fellow North-Eastern transplants Peter on bass and drummer Bruce (original drummer in The Wall), the band began playing shows at the London Circuit. They recorded four songs at Alaska Studios in Waterloo, two of which became their first singles. In early 1980, Bruce left and was replaced by Alan. More shows followed, and the four came to the attention of Malicious Damage (Killing Joke label). In June 1980, this new partnership produced the second single Agent Orange. Largely inspired by the film Apocalypse Now, Lowery's lyrics referenced the defoliant used in the Vietnam War and the song itself was built around a pulsing three-note bassline, guitar harmonics and a metronomic beat with catchy synthesizer atmospherics, the single was released later in 1980 and became their best known songboth are found in this postIn early 1981 Peter had left to join Fad Gadget, and was replaced by bassist Francis. The new line-up recorded a session for John Peel's BBC show in January 1981 and three tracks were broadcast on 19 January and repeated again later that year. A third single Cut was released on Malicious Damage in early Summer. The band's final recording session, in April 1981 yielded three new songs but none were released at the time, the band finally fell apart in August. A collection of the band's work, Versions Of A Life (Recordings 1979-1981), which includes the three tracks from the final recordings session was released in 2014. Their songs have drive and are extra class, driving and emotional and never get boring.

NEW MODELS - Shattered Windows 7'' 1981

Bosten based three piece New Models were active in the mid Eighties and released four 7Inches and the band consisted of Casey (vocals/guitars), Steven (synth/vocals), Michael (drums) and this is the first record on Modern Method Records. The New Models caught their first big break when they attracted the attention of the Cars’ David Robinson, who asked them to open for the Cars at their 1980 Boston Garden concert. This single is absolutely worth listening to, the title song is a five-minute piece with an excellent stomping rhythm, good rocking guitar and the synthesizer beeps subtly at regular intervals, perfect timing. The flip goes more shorter (only three minutes long) and shines with a faster catchy beat and leaves you alone again with a feeling of well-being, decent slab in every way!

2 TIMERS - Living For The Weekend 7'' 1979

Second 7Inch by this four piece who formed in New York in late 1977 and by early relocated to London. The line-up consisted of Audie (vocals/guitar), Johnny (guitars), George (bass/vocals), Mark (drums) and this little record features two PowerPop goodies. The weekend is still a little far away, but the view of it never hurts. Otherwise little appeared, also on compilations. In 2015 their last release came out as a mini-CD called Astoria with six songs. Nice music for a Feierabend beer. Cheers!

ANGOR WAT - General Strike 1985

Now a record which I posted in my former Blog many years ago and I must unpacked the slab today because this fucking Monday forced me, to let my vibes out. Angor Wat started in 1981 and went for first six months under the name Dimensjon S. The line-up was Erik (vocals), Asbjørn (guitars), Håvard (bass) and Jens-Petter (drums). Tiller was the only one with previous band experience as bassist in Wannskrækk. The band then also did their debut concert together with Wannskrækk, who at the time were Trondheim's famous combo. In 1983 Viggo also joined on guitar and the following year they released a split cassette with Molde Hardcore's Bannlyst which was then licensed and released in several countries. In 1985 Erik left and Håv took over the vocals while Asbjørn went back to bass. This line-up released their only album General Strike at the English Children Of The Revolution Records and toured Denmark and England in addition to Norway. After this, Tiller & Houen left the band to start their own Transsiberian Hijackers. Jens-Peter and Viggo made some recordings on their own, including for the Compilations Party Terror Vol.1 and Tsjernobilly Boogie. Since then, Guttorm (guitar), Olav (bass) and Baard (vocals) were engaged as new members. This crew made some recordings in 1987 which can be found on the Rest In Pieces cassette. A title that also suggested that the end was near. Angor Wat disbanded in 1988, but resurrected as Israelvis later that year. - Thirteen fast and rough treats are on this album to brighten up a long hard day's work!

FEMALE TROUBLE - Cleanin Up The Hood 1996

Female Trouble (based on the 1974 movie of the same name) was founded 1992 in Berlin/Kreuzberg as an all-female band, the first line-up consisted of Carola (vocals), Eva & Maike (guitars), Carla (bass), Ariana (drums) and they released their first mini album Angry Mad Pussy two years later on XNO Records. Two further albums (CD only) followed until about 1999, at that time there were some line-up changes and male members joined, henceforth the band was called She-Male Trouble and in this formation they released many 7Inches until 2019, and two more albums. Their music is a nice mixture of dirty Rock'N'Punk with driving grooves and catchy melodies, accompanied by Carola's delicate, rough voice that gives the songs authenticity and fragility, as well as anger and hardness. An excellent voice, not unique but very distinctive. Cleanin Up The Hood is their third & last release and is a powerful move forward goodie with dynamic peppy riffs which beautifully harmonizes with Carola's driving vocals. The length of the songs is unusual for Punkrock, mostly over three minutes & not really mine, but the four manage to keep me going and that's also due to the interesting lyrics, which are far from the 08/15 scheme. An album with a different new freshness and I'm really a friend of it, check this!
