DER MODERNE MAN - Sandman 7'' 1981

Today a four piece from Hanover which were founded in autumn 1979 and disbanded in the beginning of 1984 and Sandmann is the second 7Inch on NoFun Records with two solid New Wave goodies, recorded by Mattus (vocals/synth), E.K.T. (guitars), Jens G (bass), Claudius (drums). Der Moderne Man was an experimental band descended from the Punk band "The Worst", their records appearing primarily on NoFun Records and one of the first radio hosts to spin records for the group was John PeelIn the spring of 1980 the first EP Umsturz Im Kinderzimmer was released on the Heile Welt Records label and was soon sold out. The reactions to this debut weren't really enthusiastic. At a time when the more conservative German rock groups woke up and frantically tried to find connection to what is en vogue, Der Moderne Man flirted with a wink to be unfashionable. That concerned wit, humor and more relaxed approach to the diversity of style, the attempted competition is light years ahead. In 1981 the first single with a new line-up was released. The two titles fulfilled the motto that E.K.T. once put it this way: "A three-minute song that gets off to a good start is much more important than some experiment that blows the ears of a few people. And the much-vaunted avant-garde is also going in circles: experiment today, convention tomorrow." Sounds certified that the quartet delivered "a good piece of German Pop Music" with the single. Two more albums followed, including one live, and by late 1983 they were working on new material and planned to release the third LP in spring 1984, but never came.

V/A - Zu Gast Bei No Fun 1983

David Volksmund Produktion is guest at No Fun Records and out comes a very good complation with both label bands. The punky songs come from No Fun while David rather released the alternative classics. The only thing that really annoys are the stupid announcements between the songs, I've thought to cut these out because this fucks really up and which idiot had this stupid idea? Well, shit on this, the music is overall nice, most of the songs are on the bands records and not really rare but this album is it and from the bands as well. Highlights: A5, Stricher, Der Moderne Man, Hans-A-Plast. Last post today, now out to SGE - Gladbach and get three points, arrghhh!!!

V/A - Never Mind Covid-19 2020

Prost!

WDM Records is back, a new compilation with rare undiscovered German underground has slipped and Part X found its way into my hut about two weeks ago and therefore didn't sleep long on the hard drive. With almost fifty songs, I put together a decent selection on a long Sunday which is very cool, visually & acoustically. I would like to avoid thx at this point, they are honored in the booklet, apart from that, they are the usual suspects anyway. Album title & cover are from Mr. Reinhard, that should be mentioned, and the rest grew on my dung. Musically again a healthy mixture of wave, punk, rock and a few speedys, drawn from various singles & compilation records. # 008 without live recordings is also rarely occurs. Praise or criticism are desirable as always and now, cozy listening pleasure with this little ode to joy. Cheers!

PHOSPHOR - Sandra Lee EP 1981

A few minimalistic sounds now by Phosphor, a band from Hanover and formed 1979 by Lennart (guitar/vocals), Jens (bass/vocals), Uwe (drums), Frank (saxophone), and a good year later they released their debut EP with five songs via the band's own label Spargel Schallplatten. Followed by the album Frisch & Fruchtig, which was voted one of the ten best independent long-playing records from Germany by the English New Musical Express. Phosphor disbanded in 1980 and Jens went to Der Moderne Man and the rest had already formed the NewWave band Index Sign by late 1979. At the beginning of 1981 this last EP with three tracks was released. For the fact that they were more local and their records sometimes reach decent amounts among collectors, they are welcome guests on relevant CompilationsI think, a relaxing finish for the first bad day of the week.

A5 - Erst Ausgabe EP 1980

The beautiful short life of the band A5 from Bremen ranged from 1980 to late 1981 and the commercial success of the Neue Deutsche Welle was immense and A5 don't five a fuck and wandered off the scene. A5 is a band which characterizes the transition from Punk to NDW very nice and presents a wonderful mix of both. In September 1980, the band consisting of Sabina May, Ego/N, Harald Hass, Wolf Schaller, Rainer Kosch and Knox, their first EP Erst Ausgabe (also known as Seesack EP) were recorded and was released by No Fun Records. In the summer of 1981 they toured with famous bands such as Hans-A-Plast, Rotzkotz and Der Moderne Man and in October 1981 they released their second and last vinyl Kalte Erotik 7'' and shortly after, in late 1981, the band broke up. So on this record are four pretty mid-tempo sterile strips.

KOSMONAUTENTRAUM - Juri Gagarin 1982

I'm not really a big fan of ZickZack records but the debut of Kosmonautentraum is not bad at all. The band was a music project founded 1980 by the singer Ziggy XY (Michael Jarick) and drummer EKT (then both at Der Moderne Man) in Hannover with a strong closeness to the genial dilletants from Berlin (Die Tödliche Doris, Einstürzende Neubauten, etc.). Kosmonautentraum published mostly on cassettes and zigzag records with changing accompanying musicians until the mid-1980s. Ziggy XY also published a volume of poetry titled The German and published together with E. K. T. the Fanzine Today, which contained mostly collages and fictitious concert reviews and record reviews. So enjoy this last post 2018 and I wish you all a great New Year's Eve!!

V/A - Neue Klänge Für Die Endzeit 2007

Passend zu grauen Novembertagen a discovery of new German 'dark' punkrock and for me this is a remarkably good compilation. And if I say that as not a friend of new punk records you can be sure I mean it. Impact Records released this CD with new bands, partially known (Front, Die Angst, Ernährungsfehler) and they manage to venture a look which new bands move up here. Ja, Ja!! That goes for me too, haha..... - Musically all 9 groups, each with two songs, make their appearance decent, bring over a powerful and angry sound, very good lyrics and the nice mix of fast and slow numbers round off this Silberling. An amusing announcement of moving moments and honest reality. I'm sure many have already found their fans and more records will be interesting. Both Thumps Up, ma Chérie!!
